I'm actually working to get the photography policies from each of the artists.  We only go by what they want, so as soon as I find out what's acceptable during the concert, Q&A Panels, etc., we'll let all of you know.

The one thing for sure: no video!!!

Can't please everybody, but we have to work with what we're given.

And who knows, you may end up liking Yuya's music, too? That's the whole point of MusicFest...to bring established fan-favorites like FLOW, but to also introduce new artists/bands coming into the scene who may have some really decent connections to anime and/or may appeal to the general audience that comes to FanimeCon.

But the general way to get into MusicFest is pretty simple: you line up, you grab a seat, and just let yourself enjoy the show.

If you were to see FLOW in Japan, you'd probably have to sit through several bands before reaching FLOW's set since they tend to do shows with up to 3-4 other bands.  Recently, a lot of their one-man lives are limited and/or only for fanclub members.

...Please don't jump to conclusions without official word from staff =/

(Where did people read that Yuya's concert will start at 8pm...???)

In any case...

For those of you who remember how MusicFest used to be 2004-2005 where it was ONE CONTINUOUS concert, it'll be like that this year. You won't be forced to leave the Civic at the end of one set to line up again for the next set...that just doesn't make sense. o_O

We're reducing MusicFest concerts to just one night, and it'll be on Saturday.
Thanks for the info!  I'd also like to know when the autograph session will be.  Please let us know when you have the info.  Really need it when booking flight and hotel ^_^;

We're finalizing the rest of Yuya's events, and will let you guys know soon.  Thanks for your patience!

If there are two artists for MusicFest this year (;), then it'd probably be
Friday: Concert
Saturday: Q&A + Autograph Session
Sunday: Concert
Monday: Q&A + Autograph Session
like it was last year...

Well from the looks of it Saturday night will be entirely dedicated to Musicfest. Sunday is already filled up by the masquerade and B&W ball.

Last year the times conflicted, many attendees had to decide which one they were willing to sacrifice for the other...
If the schedule will be packed like it was last year, then I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case again..

Still, if there were two concerts it would still be nice :D (depending on who the other concert is performed by)

Last year I wasn't able to get an autograph, but this year I definitely will! Totally looking forward to Yuya's concert ^^

Will entrance to the concert and autograph session be available for everyone like last year, or will there be tickets like when An Cafe came?

...LOL I guess we'll never live down the tickets stuff, huh? LOL

We're not doing tickets!!! LOL.

Thank you so much for inviting him! I'm a really big fan of him! I have a question, What time will his concert, q&a and autograph session be? or if it's undecided, what time/day can we expect it to be?>

Also, does Fanime or Matsushita Yuya's company have certain photography rules? (for autograph session?)

thank you again~

The concert will be on May 28th...Saturday night. We'll keep everyone posted on photo policies and schedules so please be sure to check the website and forums often.

OH MY GOSH

I started crying when I saw the announcement.

Out of curiousity, would you guys be willing to sell reserved seating for this? I would be willing to pay for front row seats for his concert. Kind of like what AX did for Morning Musume.

All the enthusiasm is really exciting! But MusicFest is a free event for attendees & the seats will be first come first serve. ^^;

Be a pro and go through the entire thread and see which group only got listed by two people.

You know, I totally would because I'm lame like that, but this little comment is what's stopping me:

Well, at least two people on this thread might be happy.

:D More than two! :D :D :D

So we only narrowed it down to 3+ requests.  :(

Or it could be there to purposefully throw you off  ;)

kpop requests are allowed now? ^^ It makes sense that they'd have to be JP related though :]

Suggestions are welcomed, but it's just mostly for discussion!! ^_^

Yep, as it's been said in previous posts, it honestly only makes sense as long as the kpop groups/artists have had official debuts in Japan (but at this point, that's like almost everybody!), BUT! They also should have proven their worth on the Japanese market (and that's not everybody!).

I've been keeping my eye on both scenes, so I've got a grasp of what suggestions make sense and what suggestions really don't.  Since MusicFest is for the fans, everyone's input is important for the line-up, and since the number of requests for Korean artists have been on the rise, I thought it'd be something to look into. It just has to make sense!

Wouldn't want to invite guests that make attendees go "...so...why them??"  :D

To play devil's advocate, not everything at Fanime has been completely Japanese culture centric.  The Asian Film rooms have shown a lot of films in the past that incoporated films from other Asian countries (Attack the Gas Station, My Wife is a Gangster, et all), and if I do recall correctly, there have also been martial arts demonstrations (was it in 2005-or 06?) that were more Wushu than Aikido.

However, before anyone starts panicking, MusicFest will always be JPop/Rock centric.  I would like to hear from those who are requesting KPop and other non-Jmusic artists to sort of...give a reason why those picks would be good for MusicFest other than simply wanting to see them.

If it's just wanting to see KPop, the KMF event in SoCal (or SMTown if it ever comes back) would probably be of more interest, lol.

i'm running out of ideas..lol swy, but heres my input

I find it amusing that the number of requests for KPop artists seem to grow each year.

Just for discussion's sake only since I'd love to hear all kinds of input from the attendees...
We mostly focus on Japanese artists, but would you actually like to see MusicFest expand to include artists/musicians/bands from other Asian countries?

Also, please keep the requests coming in! ^_^ Thanks!

The one absolute requirement that is needed to be on MusicFest staff is that you are 21 years old or older (and if you're applying to be an interpreter, you should be at least JLPT Level 2 or have native fluency in Japanese).

As jemz mentioned, just shoot an email over to us, and we'll let you know what positions are available as well as other information we'll need from you.  Thanks!

"
  • Utada Hikaru (Rebuild of Evangelion/Kingdom Hearts promotions)
"

Unfortunately, even if Fanime could afford Utada (and who wouldn't want that), she isn't even a possibility right now because she is on hiatus from her career for now. Sad, sad, sad.

That being said, I would like to hear from the Fanime staff and see what artists they have been looking at come perform. I am very curious to know what we can possibly expect. That is, of course, if they have really started looking at anyone specific yet.

Staff can't really do that because there's issues with contracts and stuff like that. It kinda violates a lot of rules/contracts/bindings if things are announced without things being properly done.

As PyronIkari has stated, we can't announce anything until all is official. Otherwise, we could get into a lot of trouble. :)

Also, if we hadn't been looking at anyone specifically by this time (4 months away from con), I'd be freaking out :P MusicFest works year-round. We don't get a break, lol.
