I've kicked off the process with my bank now; still no response from any of the e-mail addresses I've tried (both the COVID one and the main one). Will keep folks posted on how it goes

How did it go?

Good evening old schoolers!

Apologies for being a couple days late for this week, things have been busier than usual!  This time around, an extremely popular series that I've been watching lately.

Celebrating An Era - 1980's!  Kimagure Orange Road (1987)

I just started watching this on RetroCrush and I love it.  How can something I've never watched before make me feel so nostalgic? lol

Good evening old schoolers,

Going with a Go Nagai classic today, perhaps not his most influential work but that's only because so much of his work was incredibly influential.  The original Cutey Honey (and yes, I'll always spell Cutey that way) anime series is a lot of fun and far more approachable for the masses as it's toned down quite a bit from the original manga - which is also available in English!  There are a bunch of sequels and re-imaginings of the lovely warrior but I still totally recommend the original anime - even if New Cutey Honey is my personal favorite.

I picked up the manga not long ago and was quite surprised by some of the content lol.

Can I join, please? I would like to know in what way do you intend to interview, like if you're gonna interview one by one or by group.

I sent you a DM, but I'll also answer here in case others have the same question!

I plan to do interviews online, likely through Zoom, Discord, or another program. They are done one-on-one without others and at your convenience with your comfort in mind.

I am interested :)

If I lived closer, I'd probably do the same thing, staring at the building longingly, missing my annual tradition.  *big sigh*

Serious Business / Re: The downfall of PyronIkari.
July 13, 2020, 05:33:54 PM
How tragic for the young girl, and sadly not at all surprising.  He acted like a complete ass-hat on this forum, trying to dominate over everyone else on any given topic that he proclaimed himself to be an expert on.  He would brag about getting up in the faces of rovers he didn't like, and painted future and former guests as money-grubbing fan haters while claiming to be Fanime staff.  He acted like an "insider" when he was anything but.  PyronIkari, I knew you were a fraud and complete garbage from day 1 and you've shamefully lived up to those expectations.  I hope to never see you at this or any other convention, and you should hope for the same.

Waiting until the last moment to cancel is the smart move for everyone involved.  I don't know how anyone can think otherwise.

Right now I'm very much into Shadowbringers, the newest expansion for FFXIV:ARR.

When I'm not sinking time into that, Judgement and Bloodstained are my current games.

I was a bit underwhelmed.  Larger capacity shuttles were used, but it was still quite a log jam trying to get there.  It wasn't bad, but I was hoping for a bit more out of the Night Market.  Like everyone has said, it seemed like an adult artist ally, and I was expecting more like an adult dealer's hall experience.  The film rooms are the film rooms, I was over watching hentai in a group 10 years ago lol.  The casino was a great idea.  The bingo number caller went way to fast.  The food truck was decent but ridiculously expensive.  Spent 2 hours there then headed back over to the main con.  I'm hoping some of this gets ironed out for next year if they want to continue doing it.

Iron Chef?  Well then...

Obviously we need Takeshi Kaga, aka "Chairman Kaga" from Iron Chef!

He also played Soichiro Yagami in the live action Death Note movies from 2006, as well as several anime roles.

Dealers Room / Re: Vendors Old and New

I love Anime Depot, and their guy in charge has some interesting behind the scenes stories with dealing with with some other semi-sketchy dealers.  You can probably imagine who that might include :x

I'm going to remain optimistic about it.  The con has more than doubled in size since I started attending every year.  With Clockwork Alchemy flying on their own now, that opens up room there for things to expand.  I've stayed at the Double Tree many times, and can vouch for the shuttle service being very reliable and frequent... if someone hasn't seen the shuttles before, they're simply not looking in the right place.  The schedule has always been available at the information tables.

I like that they're trying new things.  And if it doesn't work out, they don't have to do it that way again.  No big deal.

Paper schedules lol? That would explain why there is 0 info available online. No signs posted for pick up and drop off either? Oh boy, now I really am nervous.

Um.... there have been signboards where all the shuttles stop on the side of the Hilton (Almaden Ave) for years now, with each route clearly marked.  Additionally the schedules are posted there as well and I believe they've been in the pocket guide for a few years now too.  The shuttles pick up and drop off over there for good reason, they don't have to deal with the traffic in front of the convention center.

Ah, you are correct, beat me to it :)

As an old school Fanime attendee I'd like to see the return of the Kung-Fu movie guru Ric Meyers.    I really enjoyed the way he MCed the Masquerade.

Sounds like a pretty uncomfortable experience.  I tend not to ask those types of questions, and figure if someone wants me to know, they'll tell me.  If you are staff again, perhaps put in a request not to be paired with this individual.  It doesn't seem like he had malicious intent but it does seem he was a bit too forward and inconsiderate of boundaries.

Well, I slept through my alarm for 7am, and still managed to get a Hilton room for the whole weekend, around 10am.  :D

I usually wind up recycling the programs after I get home from the weekend, since I rarely wind up using it during the con anyway.  I'll take a look to see if I have any still hanging around, since I'm not a hoarder... I just happen to have the room of one.  If I find any, you can have them.

My condolences on the loss of your home and your belongings, but I'm glad you're safe.

Much appreciated, thank you for checking :)
