Title: Humboldt County
Post by: bunnycorpse on December 16, 2007, 07:43:24 PM
so anybody here live in Humboldt county?
If you do you should come to arts alive some time before Fanime.
There's alot of fun anime-loving people who hang around the gazeebo and it would be nice to meet some of the fellow Fanime atendees.
If you do live there follow these instructions:
1. Come to Arts Alive
2. Meander your way over to the Gazeebo.
3. Look for the girl with the fuzzy blue kitty-hat.
4. Run around and have fun!!!

I 'think' we have a member or two in that area...

I did a Google search and correct me if I'm wrong but are you up around the North California (like Eureka) area?

A few of us made a trip up there for the Suessical and it was quite fun.

A "cute bird" spat on my head and a girl in our group melted because she was winked at  ;)

Just name a time, place, and mini event or venue and we'll so how we could play it by ear...

Naturally our Theatre friend Mordyan who lives in Ukiah, will be having another production we're checking out in April: The Abridged Series of Shakespeare.

So Rock on.  8)

I must not have lived here when the Suessical was going on, but I bet it was fun.

winking, yaa...there's so many desusional hobos around here you get used to it after awhile.

Yeah, same here.  In any case, I go to Fanime with my close friends each year, so I don't mind too much if I don't run into anyone else I know. XD  (Otherwise I'd probably feel obligated to spend time with them.  ...Because I'm like that. :P)

*Chuckles*It's good to room with friends, though one year for yaoicon I had to room with complete strangers (Last minute attendance) and I ended up making new friends, so go figure. *L* Another con the same thing happened, we got along great for the con, but lost touch with everyone within a year later.

Yeah.  It's nice to be on a friendly basis with the people you meet at cons, but unless you REALLY connect, you'll probably lose touch with them in time (like you said).  But in the end, I don't think anyone really minds.  (Easy come, easy go, right?)

Title: Re: Humboldt County
Post by: obliviousedward on January 11, 2009, 01:07:19 PM
If you bake them, they will come. XD

Yeah, my usual group of friends is going again this year.  So that's, like... four of us (including me).  The brother of one of those friends might be going, we're not sure.  (Whether or not he's going, he better let me know what's what BEFORE three days until the con. >_<;;  Yeah, that was really cutting it close last year.  Damn last-minute hotel room-rearranging. *grumble*)

Other than my usual posse, though, I don't know of anyone else who's going.  I mean, I know people who want to go, but either their schedules are too busy or they don't have enough money. XD;;

Oh well.  I suppose that's why I'm there to bring back souvenirs for them. *shrug*
Title: Re: Humboldt County

Eh most the people I've ran into up here go "Anime? Uhhhhh, is that like, saturday morning cartoons? Duuuuuude, I love cartoons. Cartoons and beeeeer" Which makes me wonder what's in the water.

Yeash that's abit close. I prefer stuff to be settled months in advance. I think about five weeks was the least amount of time I've had rooms and people figured out before a Con.

Hmm wonder if the St. Claires TV's in the room can be hooked up to a console...Wii or something.
Title: Re: Humboldt County
Post by: obliviousedward on January 14, 2009, 03:12:49 AM
XD  Yeah, I know what you mean.  That's why I like playing piano for NCRT musicals: a good deal of the people I've met through the theatre actually know what anime is, so I can have a decent anime-based conversation with them.  (It's the same thing with certain video games.)

Heh, seriously. DX  Apparently the reason he couldn't go was because he "didn't have any money."  ...And he decided to tell his sister (my friend) that little important fact mere hours after the Online Housing Center closed permanently.  Oi. >_<;;  It wasn't like it was horribly difficult to call up the hotel by phone and cancel the extra room, but geez...  (I'm just glad there wasn't any extra fee for cancelling so close to the con.  Whew!)

Yeah.  I like plans in advance. XD

Ah, is that where you're staying this year?  Nice.  (My friends and I are staying at the Marriott again this year. <3)  That's a good question; I would hope so!  I mean, it's not like they're required to be compatible with a home game console, but it'd still be neat. :3  (My friends and I never had any room to pack a console in past years.  God we pack so much crap. XD;;  ...In any case, we were rarely in the room at all during the con anyway.  Hehe.)

What games do you like to play? :3
Title: Re: Humboldt County
Post by: Moondancer on January 14, 2009, 10:23:53 AM
Hmm think the only person I've bumped into that was interested in talking about anime with me was at Borders in the Manga section. (of course, where else right?)

Yeah....Money is a must at a con. I mean seriously you can just eat ramen, and other instant soup things via the coffee maker. (Or a mini rice cooker like I've known some people to bring) It is nice to go out with friends to the pub down the ways, or Johnny Rockets...Ooo the chicago pizza place is nom! Anyway yeah. Point is money = good times. Food, drink...buying stuff at con...paying for the room. Very important cause I wouldn't put it past some folks to room up then claim they'll have the money for their part of the room like on sat of the con, and then 'forget' to pay once their back home.

Yep, it's the first time I'll be returning to a hotel at Fanime. I keep ending up in different hotels. (Marriott, St. Clair, Fairmont...which the rooms weren't all that nice for such a pricey place. Etc.) The hotel where Yaoicon is held I can hook my laptop to their TVs, but that tends to be late at night when things are sorta dead...Or when you just bought a new box set that you JUST have to watch _now_. Heh we tend to pack a good amount also, but a Wii is tiny enough it shouldn't be to hard.

I don't have a Wii yet, but I could by then. I've been debating for months on which system to get. I'm rather picky and take a long time to get such things. I think I compared laptops for about four months before I finally bought one. Wii just seems like it would be good for Room stuffs at cons.

As far as games I enjoy various series; Final Fantasy,  Mario Kart, Resident Evil, Rock Band, Mortal Kombat, Soul Caliber, Kingdom Hearts, Bloody Roar, Halo, Tekken, Dynasty Warriors, Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto...Ummm *Thinks* Got a Naruto game on PSP that's fun too. I tend to Role-Play (Pen&Paper sort, just online) more then play video games.

How about you? What games you like, or anime/manga series?  *Notes your Sig* Other then Gundam Wing.

Ah yes, that's right! XD  Where were we?  *checks*  Oh yeah, games and anime. ;D

Ah, I like Resident Evil and the Soul Caliber series, too.  (Actually, my sister plays more RE than me; I tend to watch most of the time and annoy her by pointing out obvious tips. XD;;  But I've played it before!)  Mm... aw yeah, Rock Band kicks so much ass. <3  My sis and I got it for Christmas this past year and we're totally hooked on it.  Two of my friends have it, too, so whenever we can we get together and play for HOURS. 8D  My voice is always sore when we're done.  (I'm always the lead vocalist. XD  But I do enjoy the guitar and drums when I get to play on them.)

Hmm, what else...  Oh yeah, I really like the Fire Emblem game series. :3  That, and other tactical role-playing type games.  I played FE: Path of Radiance and just got hooked.  They're so fun!  Other than FE, I like the Super Smash Bros. games, Dance Dance Revolution, Tales of Symphonia, and the Pokemon game series from time to time.  There are others, but I can't think of them by name at the moment. XD;;  (There are plenty of games that I'd LIKE to play, but don't have the system for.  Games like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, and Galerians, for example.  Actually... wait, yeah, they pretty much remade the first MGS for the GameCube.  Yup.  I still need to borrow it from my friend who has it. XD  YAY.)

As far as anime and manga go, I enjoy various series.  Aside from Gundam Wing, some of the anime series I like are Excel Saga, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Furi Kuri, Comic Party, and Papuwa.  Manga-wise, some of the series I like are Loveless, Ouran High School Host Club, Di Gi Charat, Fruits Basket, and Yu-Gi-Oh.  (YGO was considerably a better manga, since they didn't completely butcher it like they did the anime. DX  It's actually a relatively good series if you look at the original Japanese version.)

*takes breath*  ...Yeah. XD  That's what I got.

I know you told me the games you liked, but how about anime/manga for you?  What are some of your favorites? :3

Contrary to popular belief, I still think the female gamer is a mythical creature ;)

Or have an epic gaming party someday and I'll be tempted in randomly showing up in Northern California.

Wow this thread got busy *Chuckles*

Oh right, strange thought I mentioned what anime/manga I liked.
Let's see, Yami No Matsuei, Hellsing Ultimate, Witch Hunter Robin, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (I haven't watched Kai yet, but I have it), Death Note, Spice and Wolf, Zombie Loan, Naruto, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Bleach, Shaman King, Vampire Hunter D, Loveless, Ergo Proxy, Scryed, Ranma, Trigun, Outlaw Star...To name a few *Chuckles*

Manga wise I like; Death Note, Hellsing, Crescent Moon, Bleach, Naruto, Trinity Blood, Descendants of Darkness, and others that just aren't coming to me. So sleepy right now.

Oh and I has a Wii now, so I can add that to my gaming stuff. Mmmm Super Smash Bros Brawl

Wow this thread got busy *Chuckles*

Oh right, strange thought I mentioned what anime/manga I liked.
Let's see, Yami No Matsuei, Hellsing Ultimate, Witch Hunter Robin, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (I haven't watched Kai yet, but I have it), Death Note, Spice and Wolf, Zombie Loan, Naruto, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Bleach, Shaman King, Vampire Hunter D, Loveless, Ergo Proxy, Scryed, Ranma, Trigun, Outlaw Star...To name a few *Chuckles*

Hehe.  That it did!

Ah, nice anime/manga selections!  Lol, you named Outlaw Star twice. XD  (Guess that means it's twice as good!)  I really want to watch that now; I've actually only seen a few episodes while it was still airing on Cartoon Network.  I really want to see the whole series. DX  Someday, damn it!  Someday...!  Ah, and I remember Scryed and Ranma; Yami no Matsuei and Witch Hunter Robin are nice, too. :3

Woohoo!  Wii! 8D  I'm happy for you! <3

I wrote that post before going to bed, so it's not surprising I repeated myself.
I have Outlaw Star in a box set ^^
Oh I do like Gundam Wing, though I never really saw much of the other Gundom series.

Yush the Wii is fun, thinking I might bring it for room fun stuff at Fanime *L* I'm sure my roomies would love that.

Lol, it's okay.  I do it, too. XD

Yeah, it's kinda the same thing with me; Gundam Wing is the only Gundam series I've seen all the way through.  I've only seen bits and pieces of other Gundam series, so I can't honestly give my opinion on those series.  A lot of them look cool, though.  I wouldn't mind getting a chance to watch them all the way through. :3

Hehe.  Wii party in your room! 8D

*Chuckles and nods* I like the designs of the Gundams in Wing, but the few other shows I've got glimpse of I didn't care for them as much.

Yush Wii Party *L* I need to pick up more remotes.
Maybe I'll talk my roomies into a Wii/anime watching party, interested? *L*
Should be able to hook my laptop into the rooms TV, I can at Yaoi con

Totally.  I absolutely LOVE the design of the Gundam Deathscythe (as well as the Hell and Hell Custom variations).  It's my favorite Gundam. X3  (Wing and Heavyarms are close behind, though.)

Hehe, yeah, that sounds cool. XD  If you set a time and place I'd totally be interested in stopping by.  I mean, I'll probably be all over the con, so I won't really know what I'll be doing at the time (or if I'll even remember); but if you do want to set up a little gathering, maybe I can get a couple of my friends interested in going, if only for a little bit. ;D

Ooo Deathscythe is pretty, so was Wing. Wing Zero as I recall was another I liked. Then again it might be easier to say Sandrock and Heavyarms didn't interest me as much as most others. Good stuff none the less.

Oh umm..*Snickers* Wasn't expecting you to consider it. I'd have to see what the roomies say, but I don't see how they could turn down some gaming fun.
Granted I'd need to get more controllers. Hmmm I really need to figure out what Wii games I want. I only have 2 so far *laughs* Oooo Gamefly, forgot about that option. Bah I'm rambling! Sounds like fun though!

Need to get some sort of anime group going in Humboldt, unless there is one then I'm just not aware of it *Chuckles*

Yeah, Sandrock was... okay, I guess. *shrug*  But I really liked the custom version of Heavyarms in Endless Waltz, though.  (Four gatling guns!  Count 'em, FOUR. 8D  Lol, talk about trigger-happy.)

Oh, lol, sorry! XD  I was just saying if you did have something going, I'd stop by and say hi.  Don't feel that you have to do anything just because of me.  No pressure, I was just making conversation, hehe. ^^

Yeah, as far as I know there's no real anime group in Humboldt.  Us fans are pretty stealthy, I guess; we only make ourselves known when the coast is clear. XD  (a.k.a. when we know there are other anime fans among us so we don't feel alone, lol)

Ooooo I forgot about Endless Waltz (Loves the White Reflection song) I haven't seen that in soooo long. Hmm wonder if I can get it from Netflix. *Mutters about lousy Anime selections at the video stores* Netflix is my good friend, but the time it takes to get stuff is annoying.

Hey it could be a blast, I'll just have to run the idea past my roomies. The hotel we're staying at tends to have small rooms, but I'm sure it'd be fun. Just need more controllers, and maybe a game or two more. Though Super Smash Brothers Brawl is fun.

Yeah this is true. I've tried to find some folks interested in Anime, and the vast majority either goes "Isn't that like for kids?" or the like. Couldn't really find any at CR when I was going which I found sorta strange. If there was more people speaking up from Eureka/general area I would suggest getting something together.

Yeah, Netflix might have it. :3  It really does suck that anime sections in video stores are pretty much... nonexistant. XD;;  Dude, I remember when Suncoast was still around.  They had the best anime section ever! 8D  That was where I first bought the videos for Gundam Wing (and where my parents bought me the DVD box set for my birthday). :D  Woo!  ...I really miss that store. D:

Cool.  Well, if you do end up doing something, just let me know.  I'll be around. ;D

Yeah, I found a few anime fans at CR over the time that I've been there.  I met a girl during my second year there (who is now a closer friend) and we both liked Gundam Wing. XD  I also recently met a guy in a current class of mine who likes anime.  But other than that, I really haven't found that many people. *shrug*  Oh well.  More anime for us!

Yeah, when they were around I was always broke ;_;
Figures I gets some money, and there's no real good place. Need to go back down to the bay. *Sniffles* Trees are nice, but I miss civilization.

Sure thing if it happens, I'll be sure to ping ya. More the merrier as they say. ^^
Think I might buy the first needed extra remote this week, first $60 down! Whooooo!
Gaming room party! BYOB though, we're selfish :P

Wow only 2?
What am i saying, that's more then me. *Shakes fist at*
The few classes I took at CR a few people mentioned they liked Anime in the Japanese class, but I had the feeling I was largely disliked so never really talked to anyone. Go self-esteem issues!

Lol, I know what you mean. XD  The solitude up here is nice, but sometimes it's good to go where there's more people.  Actually, I can't really handle so many people all the time (it's kinda freaks me out, lol), but I suppose I get my yearly dose of tons of people when I go to Fanime.  San Jose is a pretty awesome city like that; there's something to do when I get there! XD

Sweeeeet. <3  I'll bring the Dew! 8D

Oh, you took Japanese at CR?  I totally forget if I've asked you this already, but when did you take it?  I took two semesters of Japanese during the 06-07 school year.

Hmm I'm not the most social and I can get nervous at large gatherings (Ever been to Gay Pride in SF? *Twitches and shudders* Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many people.....

Mmmmm Deeeeeeeeew, luffs that stuff.

Hmmmmmmmmm, I'm almost afraid to ask if your name starts with a L or S. *laughs*

Hehe, actually yes, my real name starts with an L. XD

*Snickers* Fainting wouldn't be unexpected if you don't like THAT many people around ya. It's like being in a ocean of human bodies, stuck shoulder to shoulder and hoping to catch a current towards where ever you wanna go. Worse yet if you were standing for 4 or 5 hours, and then a friend wanting to drag you to EVERY friggen booth. *Gnaaaaaars* I wont even go into parking and sun burns.

L....huh....okay I think I have an idea of who you are, I win the game!
Well sorta, kinda. Not that there was really a race....gah I need more then 4 hours of sleep at a time.

Lol, yeah, it's when I'm in a crowd of people and I can't even move that I'm REALLY uncomfortable. XD  (Ugh, sunburns.  I know how you feel.)

Woo!  (I think...? XD)  You win another toaster oven!  Yaaaay!

I think most people would be like that, and that's exactly how it is at that event *Shudder* Ebil sunburns too, least that's not really an issue up here...as much.

Toaster oven! Time to make poor mans pizza! *Snickers*
