God damn Jerry, it's as if you're TRYING to sound stupid.

Organized religion is supposed to have tolerance for their fellow man/woman? Since when? How much do you actually know about religions? I'm guessing jack nothing, besides the fact that although religion is the overbearing base, it is not the trigger and reason of things.

The wars in the Middle East have been going on forever... why? Because of land disputes, because of rights and ownerships, and tons of other reasons. Remember the crusades? It was a war of religion, based on the fact that land was taken over, and the pope tried to free holylands from heathens. Though you wouldn't have a war over religion, YOU ARE ALSO NOT A DEVOUT RELIGIOUS PERSON... so what god damned basis do you have to make that comment? If you follow a religion as a life path, a lot of religions actually tell you to do bad and immoral things(based on standardized society). So you HAVE to do these things based on scripture written thousands of years ago.

Religious wars will always exist, and even if there were no religion... there'd be "principle" wars. Wars based on what people think is moral, and what they think is a good way of life. Questioning how people "SHOULD" live. People want to believe in something, and some people believe in things so strongly that they will do anything to prove and show that they are right.

I think Jerry raises some valid points. While I'm pretty sure religious wars of some form will continue to exist, the religions were examining in this scenario both advocate a "tolerance for their fellow man/woman."

I guess the mosque is being built 5 blocks away. If we're in opposition to this, then where do we draw the line? Where is acceptable? Is it fine within manhattan? What sort of legal precedent do we establish if it is not alright? And if it is not alright, for what legal reason? I think advocates against the construction of the mosque haven't completely thought this out and are acting more on visceral factors.

Ps, a mosque was already inside the world trade center, so there was one at ground zero to begin with! This also shows that these were indeed the more extremist terrorists who conducted the attack.

Incredible Stuff I can Make / [music] Anime Mix
December 15, 2010, 06:39:32 PM
Hey everyone!

Since it looks like my chances of DJ'ing at Fanime are now (and forever)null; I decided that I'll still try to practice my craft for my target audience. Below is a short Anime trance/electro/dubstep mix I made. There's just a little kpop at the end, but the tracks are from anime soundtracks for the most part. Please let me know what you guys think! I'm trying to get better as a DJ, so any criticism you have is very useful for me to hear.

Check out the 5:29 minute mix here:

Hurr-ro FanimeCon Forum go-ers,

I'm looking/hoping to be a DJ for this year's Fanime. In order to demonstrate my competence as a DJ, below is a short 5:29 min mix I made in literally 6 minutes. I included samples of what I expect to play should I DJ at Fanime.

I typically spin Top 40 and Asian Pop mashups and mixes, but anime conventions are a very special beast of their own. I hope the above mix demonstrates that uniqueness for this potential gig.

If you'd like to see a longer set that I did at a house party for the same sort of crowd that attends anime conventions, you can view a 2-part video of it here:

Part 1) http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=608437673934
Part 2) http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=608438911454

That's it! I hope you guys give my sets a quick listen and leave some sort of response of what you like/dislike/would-like-to-hear-more-of. My dj fan page is at www.facebook.com/djpeterlo

Keep on rockin', fanime!

Does this count as dub step?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-HWd12guAg or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHBbezgMxsI

Its the kind of music I'd play at an anime con. The problem usually being though, is that dub step tends to be music that "bro's" will request that makes the girls leave the dance floor with just a bunch of bro's standing there nodding their heads. Said bro's will still dance if girls are on the dance floor.

Is there a way we can download a record or obtain a set list from the DJ's that played?

The main feedback that I got from talking to people who attended:
...

B) I got blizzarded by DJ requests.  I will comment here the same way I replied during the ball:  if you have requests, we had the forum thread open for at least four months.  We don't take requests at the ball because if every 20th person who went to the ball requested a song, we would have a request list that would be longer than the actual playlist at the ball.  I might add that I loved the response I got when I mentioned that - "Well, just pick the good ones."  My civil reply was to ask how THAT would be decided.
...

I think, as other posters have mentioned, it would be useful for the dj to compile a set library before the dance that dancers could request online. A "drop box" is a good way to review requests as they come in during the dance for the dj, which could be done through the use of a simple pen and notepad.

Despite the blizzard of of competing requests, it is really up to the DJ to decide what song to play. While request tools may be very useful in gaining a sense of what the dancers want, ultimately it is the DJ who will play the right songs that is in the interest of the dance as a whole. A caveat: I have not yet been to the BW ball, but as a DJ who has spun for salsa/bachata/cha-cha crowds, I've learned to gear requests for the ladies. The gents will dance to whatever the ladies dance to. You also don't want to play a request that only 1-5 people out of the entire dance can really groove to.

If requests come with a tip, the DJ may want to use an envelope to use as an "escrow." Simply put the tips into the envelope, and if the request gets played, the dj can take the tip. If not, it remains in the envelope.

Just my suggestions for resolving the DJ request issue.

I'm looking into DJ'ing for one of the dance halls, as I spin dance, asian pop, and mashups. I'm in the process of creating a demo cd to whomever is in charge of DJ management at fanime.

Is there a specific kind of of electro/house/trance that is lacking, or a specific kind of subgenre that I will need to focus on to fit in? What do you guys think?

I know of some quality teachers for Salsa and East Coast Swing, as I am deeply involved in those communities of the bay area. So, if those dances rank high enough I know the right people to book.

And this is my first post on the fanime forums. Hello everyone!
