"Hotel Changes for FanimeCon 2014

For FanimeCon 2014, we are trying something different in order to make booking a hotel room less of a headache and more fair for our attendees. It is now going to be a requirement for our attendees to have a FanimeCon 2014 membership in order to book a hotel room.

Q: Do I have to do anything different other than registering for a membership and then hotel room?
A: Since both of our registration and housing website is handled by CMR, this should be as simple as confirming your information on the housing website after you have registered for your membership"

1.OK so I am part of a group registration I am not however the leader of the group, does this affect my ability and speed to be able to book a hotel room?

2. Do I have to have my badge paid for to book a hotel room?

3. Upon booking besides having my info available do I need the info of my group leader I.e. name and fan name to book a room?

What if when you checked into your hotel you recieved your badge/group badges then? Or possibly, group badges based on what hotel you are staying at and have each hotel have a pick-up area inside so that way you're dealing with smaller groups, versus one giant mass of everybody. And for everyone else that isnt in a hotel, or registered for their room (because, cmon, people stack tons of people in rooms) gets their badge in the regular badge pick up line.
Just a thought, i cant think of it but i know another con does this, and i think having smaller groups of people would be more managable than trying to have everyone all at one place at one time.
Like i could see this working for day 0. For the pre registered and early registered people, who should already have their badges printed out with their names on it already. And for the rest of the con, having badges like this year, where you just stick the name on it, and have a reg./pick up areas at the fairmont and at the con.

As a side note, i just wanted to say i give so much kudos/props/internet hugs to the staffers. You guys were great, and worked really hard. Every single staffer i talked to (minus one, but that was a B&W ball staffer) were awesome and so nice, and if they didn't know the answer, they found someone who did. So thank you for all your hard work this con. Hopefully next year won't be as stressful for you peeps.

So my boyfriend is planning on cosplaying Kirito from SAO. And he bought these props for his cosplay. I didn't think to check to make sure these would be ok, i assumed they would be, but reading this forum im kinda nervous now. They are made out of pvc, and are super light and kinda fragile. Would they be ok? http://www.flickr.com/photos/64131224@N06/
As long as they have not been sharpened to an edge, they should be alright.

Alright awesome! The edges arn't sharp at all, just dull and pointed. Thank you for such a fast reply as well.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: 2013 Hotel Reservations link

I know its going up at noon, but where will the link be to reserve a room is what im asking. All we have right now is http://www.fanime.com/ which takes us to the 2012 site, forums, faceboook and twitter. Is there going to be links put up on that main site or will the brand new 2013 site be up by then.

Hotel and Facilities / 2013 Hotel Reservations link
January 22, 2013, 05:58:38 PM
So me and my group of friends are wondering that with the Fanime 2013 site not up yet and with thursday fast approaching where is the link to reserve our hotel rooms going to be? Last year and years before Fanime had its site for the current year up and running and we could just click on the hotel reservations tab and there we had it. Im just wondering because getting a hotel reservation was pretty cray cray last year in the first 10 min of it being available.

-OH yes, another CON i had. Black and White ball attire consistencies...So naturally i got checked for my shoes and the checker-in person "hm well let me look at your shoe *grabs my foot and inspects it* ya, i guess thats ok"......ok, violating, but w/e i brushed it off, i made sure to buy proper shoes this year. Get in to ball, then proceed to see at least 20+ other girls with 5inch stilettos...wait i thought those wernt ok? How did they get in? If those kinds of shoes then i wouldn't have needed to spend extra money getting 'proper' shoes, and then why did i have to be so inspected when it was clear i had the proper stuff on. LOVED the venue btw. But cmon now, lets be consistent.

I apologize that you were treated in such a way. There was some breakdown in communication as to what was allowed and what was not between the staff and the rovers. We're working on ideas as to how to solve this issue early on so it won't be happening next year. I'm glad you liked the venue, though! You're definitely not the only one. :P

Thank you for the feedback!
- Rebecca

I figured thats what happened, but i know you peeps will work on that and i really really wanted to commend you guys on the venue choice, it was so nice to have room to stretch my dancing legs, i love love loved it, and all my friends did too!

I already posted this in another feedback area but ill put it here too. And i agree with previous posts, i saw a TON of girls breaking dress code. Very much so in the realm of shoes. I went out and bought shoes that fit the dress code and then saw girls walking around in stilettos....i have a ton of stilettos, a few that would of matched my dress better and were taller so i wouldnt of been stepping on my dress all night. I borrowed it from a friend who's a bit taller then me so i couldnt get it altered to my height, but then i couldnt compensate with higher heels cuz they werent 'allowed'. I understand we want a good crowd turnout for the ball, but its very frustrating to see the code basically thrown to the wind when others have made the effort to be in proper attire. So yes it stinks to turn people away, but...well, too bad, your not up to code. I don't know how the code could of been any more explanitory, i mean i read it and understood it just fine. Heels the size of a nickel...pretty explanitory, go to your closet, grab a nickel, grab your heels, measure. Dresses no higher than 2 inches..put your dresses on, grab a ruler or tape measure, measure.
All in all just stick to the dress code you put up Fanime because nothing is more frustrating to say no to one person and then turn around and say yes to another who is wearing the same basic stuff.

Honestly my only complaint is..........DAY 0 LINE *ooooo shock lol*
ya, waiting around for ooooo 5 hours to then get to the front, have a power outage and then be told that no you cant register with your reg. email on your smart phone SUCKED, big time, and to then have to berate a rover to then speak to a manager just added to the stress level. Now let me be clear about this, i am SO SO appreciative to ALL the staff of Fanime, and i despise having to get mean and ugly with them, i know you guys are tired but so are we and i hated having to do that but i refused to have stood in line for that long to then be told "well the powers out so no you can't use your smart phone, so you can just sit here if you like but you won't get in, just come back and wait in line tomorrow"..........seriously? My badge name matches my id, my address matches my id...just...ugh.
-I know this has been mentioned quite a few times and i agree, every single person i talked to at the con and all my friends who came all agree too: give the option to mail out badges. I would be MORE than willing to pay extra to get my badge in the mail. Because that line, the wait, ick ick ick. Please Fanime staff, please please please consider doing this, lots of other cons do it and Fanime is getting bigger every year and it's only going to be bigger next year.

-There seemed to be a serious level of miscommunication with rovers, now i expect that with the volunteers cuz they don't have the fancy head-sets but rovers? You guys/girls have direct lines to like..everyone! So it got very tiring to have to ask a rover, who then gave an answer that made no sense to which i questioned to which they called another rover who gave a different answer who then argued with rover #1 who then called over another rover in which they proceeded to argue, to which i then just said "nevermind" walked away, asked a con-attendee who perfectly answered my question. I know there were alot of attendees this year so it must of been stressful but, chill out (and on a second note, not a single rover i talked to was nice, NOT ONE, which was just, well, poopy) and if you don't know the answer just say you don't, it's cool, im going to be all "RRAAWWRRRR!", honestly if a rover replied with that i would of said "oh ok, well could you call someone who would know please?". Simple, you don't know or arn't 100% sure you ask someone who does, no big deal, better to have the right answer than a 'uuhhhh' kind of answer.

I've been going to the black and white ball since it first started, and i must say, every year it's gotten better..except last year. Hopefully we will have a bigger room for it, like in 2010, and that will solve alot. I agree that there was alot of music that felt very 'pop' like and not so much traditional-what-you-would-think b&w ball music, but this is an anime convention so having pop like anime/japanese music i expect. And i love love love that the dress code of actual FORMAL wear is enforced, it just gives it such a GREAT atmosphere. The only thing that really endlessly pissed me off was that i got hassled alot to see my shoes. Now yes, i was wearing a floor length dress (its a ball, so floor length for me :D) but i got checked at the door, at the elevator, in the line indoors, at the entrance, after being done dancing, i mean really its why i got pissed and left.

I've read around on the forums here some people being upset about this as well, so i wanted to give my thought or suggestion, i think there should be a dress code checking station. Not at the door where you are right there at the ball but at the beginning, or as far to the beginning as it can be. And at that station have someone or like 3 people (any more than that it becomes a power battle) who are KEEPERS OF THE CODE with rulers in hand, who check your attire and your shoes, and if you pass they give you a stamp on the hand, like a dark stamp so it dosent sweat off or wash off while your there, so that after that other staffers can see that you were checked and cleared. No more 'lift your dress' every 5 min, or confusing between staffers if what your wearing is cool.

Seriously thats my only suggestion, just put something on us so that everyone on the planet knows our attire and shoes were cleared so the only thing the other staffers there have to worry about are rude, overly crazy, etc etc peeps. I love the ball, it's really a highlight for me, and other than that you guys are really really awesome.

Just wanted to know if this year to get into the ball one would have to wear the colors of either black and or white (and follow all the other codes as well). Or if colors are still acceptable, just so i know long enough in advance so as to get or make a black or white gown  :)

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Fanime Room Keys

Ya i thought the keys were awesome, but honestly instead of spending money on room keys i would of rather of had my program guide. They were cute but the money could be spent in other and better ways. Personally i think fanime got them because they got tored of hearing con goers complain that since they lost their room key the security deposit was kept and waahh waahh wwahhh, so they got these so that if it was lost it was only money lost to Fanime, not the hotel or so thats what i heard....GOSSIP!! But still, lets pass on the room keys this year.

hey so im cosplaying as my in game character from Aion, and my character (a magic weilder person) uses an orb as her 'weapon' and i finally found a solid glass orb to use, but as i was reading i saw a rule with glass included in it. i just wanted to know if the rule was particular to certian kinds of glass props and if mine would be acceptable. here is a picture of it, it fits into my hand perfectly.

Our trouble with glass props is the breaking hazard they pose, and the danger that broken glass poses. I can't officially say "OK" to that. If you were to pose outdoors, near the fountain area, it would be much less of a hazard, however.

Ok, well thats fine, i think ill probably just go to Michaels and get a plastic ornament so that i don't have to worry about the glass, ill just use it for personal shoots.

Hopefully next year will be better :( 2010 was such a great year but this past one was a let down...
