Really? I was over there on February, seemed pretty normal to me. Just the typical rowdy crowd from the sports bars, but nothing for me to worry about.

Maybe it's just me but I'm comfortable walking around downtown San Jose,  it's a lot better than walking around downtown LA, I'll tell you what. ;)

But yeah, if your not comfortable with downtown city folk, make sure to go in a group. Or get a taxi, uber or what nots.

Check out the Black and White Ball, take some free dance lessons, That's pretty much all I can recommend, others have filled in.

Next step is to explore Downtown San Jose. Watch a movie, go clubbing, wine and dine.  Lots of great places to check out, that's if your fine walking in downtown, some people are "uncomfortable" walking around when the sun goes down.

Sounds like you reached your fanime limit like me. We both sucked out as much juice we can out if it. Still a fun time you just have to find other stuff to perk your interest again.

Sorry there is none.
But, I could see it be an interesting interactive panel. I'm all for more interactive events.
It's too late to submit one, but if you want it could be done for next year.

Big Event Showcase / Re: Dance Lessons for B&W Ball?
April 09, 2016, 01:11:27 AM
Unless there is a dramatic change in the B&W Ball management things would be the same as in years past. Dance lessons will be available from Friday to Sunday. And all day 9am to 9pm if I recall. Switching to different types of dances every hour.

Pretty much all classes will be beginner level. The private lessons, I don't know, I'm sure it would be the same as last year with a sgin up sheet and what nots.

To answer your  questions , just tell your partner "mind if I lead?" Or  "I'll be leading."
Durring the actual dance lessons you'll chose which side you want to learn.
I'm not too sure what you mean by favorite dances, but I hope I answered them. If not just post again and someone else will chime in.

Serious Business / Re: A little backstory until now

Dude, it's ok. As much as I like fanime, it's the only con that has a weird vibe when it comes to the people. Any other con I been to I felt right at home, here it seems like someone was giving me the stink eye.  Not all the time but you know what I mean.

Maybe cause most of the attendees are young and this is their first big con, but the general vibe I get from fanime is very cliquey.

Maybe cause I been spoiled by the amazing times I had at AX's 21+ meet and greets that fanime seems... Well you know.....

First time I tried to invite random people I meet at panels for a room party the all had the "stranger danger" look after I told them. I would just laugh cause it was comical.  Not everyone is like that but I say the 75% of people I asked said no. It's wasn't like I just went up to the crowd and ask a random, it was after we chatted in line for a while or at a panel of even friends of friends.

But meh, maybe the look of my mug, or not an active cosplayer or what ever, but eh. Some people are just not that social. Guess you have to find like minded people.
Oh snap! see that's the cliquey thing right there.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions; please keep them coming! Just dropping a note to say that we do check the forums even though we may not comment often.

I'm also running a poll on our Twitter since someone brought up local bands, and I wanted to gauge how attendees feel. Do you want to see more local bands inspired by Japanese music (whether cover bands or folks creating their own), or would you rather we kept MusicFest strictly to overseas Japanese artists/bands?

Feel free to answer here or engage in dialogue on Twitter!

Thanks for posting this here too.

Well seeing as how things went last year with "Music Fest" I say add them.  The main band(s) should be an anime related Japanese band/group/what not, but opening bands or even adding a Friday show for main local bands would be awesome too. Then you'll truly be a music "fest"

I told you not to comment on any of my posts again echoshadow please refrain from doing so. Please refrain from even being "part" of the forums.

Sorry I couldn't resist. (not really sorry though...)

Does the wait remind anyone else of watching DBZ when Goku is charging up the spirit bomb. We know its coming soon but the suspense is kill us.
Eh, more the infamous "five minutes until Namek blows up." :P
LOL true that.

I for one like the new 1 room limit per reg. It weeds out the hotel scalpers/hoarders. I think that was the major problem that pledged Fanime hotel booking. And this coming form a dude that has not got their badge yet.

We'll have to see how things work out during the mad rush.
Maybe it could be time for Fanime to move to a new location with better accommodations.

Ahh, I see. I've talked it over with my dad. I think he'll most likely just be driving along with us and he'll be there when we check in.

I will in fact be 21 by the time Fanime rolls around, but that confuses me (and is now making me lightweight nervous). Does this mean that everyone I'm sharing the room with has to be 21+? Or does it all depend on specific hotels' policies? The person in charge of booking and paying for the room for my group last year was 18/19 years old. He was the youngest of us and he went through the whole shebang without a parent/guardian.

Thanks again for your help and patience with me, everyone, I seriously appreciate it! Hopefully it won't be this complicated for me next year. ;__;

If your over 18, have state issued ID and a credit card, you'll have no worries booking a hotel. I have never seen nor heard of hotels getting complicated for 18 year olds. Only time I have noticed is when there are minors getting a room. Thus the need an adult supervision.

Just to put your mind at ease call the hotels you wish to stay and ask them their age policy.

Red-eye pretty much said it all in a nutshell. But I can explain some parts it a bit more.

The fastest way is to buy your ticket online then pick it up the day before the convention starts other wise know as day 0. There are two location which you can pick up your badge (ticket). At the San Jose convention center or at Clockwork Alchemy.

Fanime takes up the whole convention, and a few hotel meeting rooms that are connected to the con. Also also the Fairmount hotel, Parktee Hall, and the Civic Auditorium which all just across the street. Fanime also gives you entry to its sister steampunk convention ClockWork Alchemy which is a few miles down the road. They do provide free shuttles busses to both cons.

A key feature of fanime is it's a 24 hour con. So even in the early morning there is something to do.

Yea people walk all over downtown in cosplay while attending Fanime. While you could change into your cosplay at the con many attendees change in their hotel rooms or come already dress from home.

Also for meet ups. You can look here for verious cosplay meet ups/photo groups. Just like a con they that. You can also set up other kinds of meet ups, like dinner meet up, bar meet & greet, or for dancing at the late night dance, Black & While Ball or just a night out in downtown. But like any meet up it all takes planing and the right people that want to hang out.

Feel free to ask anymore questions you might have.

Fanime staff have been monitoring these threads, but some of the posters are correct: no announcements have gone out regarding housing. No information in the public sphere is confirmed. We are working to make sure that the messaging is consistent but as you can see, there have been some hiccups. There are announcements in the works, so please stay tuned for those.

Thanks for the update.

Also, for a last note, it has been confirmed that badges are needed to get hotel rooms, and each badge, regarding group registration or not, will have a confirmation number when receiving the badge email.....

Are you 100% sure of this? I ask because I see zero official post on the main web site and all other media sites. The only info that was there was from last year's ordeal.

And lastly @Amanojaku,
Ha! Nailed it. So I'm now a troll for complaining? ROFL.

Re-read my shitty complaints again. As an example I bitch about 10 things that are bad with fanime with the last 4 or 5 years. Fanime did fix one or two each year. Thus I'm currently bitching about the same 4-5 problems instead of the 10. I see zero contradiction there. Nice try though.

I'm thinking either your friends or their buddies are staff or in some way part of staff. So me "bashing" them makes you upset. I get it. no one wants to hear their buddies getting "trashed talked". Then again if your buddies are slacking off, they should get an ear full. Just like in the real world.

Quote from: OGIGA on January 13, 2016, 12:01:45 AM....
Lastly, let's stay on topic. A comment like "The info comes out whenever it comes out" is basically "Let's shut down this thread". Where are the moderators to clean up off-topic content? (feel free to remove this paragraph too)

Well if it was me incharge of Fanime's PR. I would just put out a blanket general statement like "We're still working on the hotel reg, stay tuned for updates."  About every month. That way it clams the masses, and you know they are working on it thus you won't have these threads.  That's better than zero official post on fb/twitter/forums/etc.

Till that changes, my "it comes out when it comes out" comment is going to be the proper response. I did try to sugar coat it by saying check social media.

I do thank the mods for keeping my bitching post here. That just shows some staff wish they could do more but can't. Unlike fb post where they delete negative posts.

All you do is seem to bash it and hate on it. So, why even go? You seem to have the whole con figured out so why waste your time on the forums? Go do something else, be pessimistic somewhere else. Or offer solutions. How about being something more than cynicism and hate?

Quote from: Amanojaku on January 07, 2016, 01:47:45 PM....
I second this, as a crusty old Fanime vet who still enjoys the con every year.  Maybe its just time for him to move on.  His doom and gloom posts are anything but helpful.

Rofl.
Frist off, you need to look up what hate means one more time. If I really said hateful things it would make you cry. (Which I think I already did, sorry if I did.)
Like I said before if my comments get you bumed out, too freaking bad. It's not me you should be mad at. Unlike you two, I do try to make fanime better each year. I always attend the feedback panel at the end of the convention. I give the chairman(s) my two cents, the good and the bad fanime was.  How else would fanime get better if they never hear the problems. Maybe both of you are shy or don't want to offend anyone but I'm not like you to sit back and keep quiet.
If they didn't listen nor read these silly forum post, fanime would still have the 5 reg booths and those horrible badge printers, and the 3+hour line con.

I was looking for information not the typical echoshadow pessimism. But thanks, I'll do my best to take all my potential fun and the fun I have at fanime with a grain of salt. I should know by now the staff of volunteers who work hard in other avenues of their lives use fanime as a way to just fuck with people and stress them out. Echoshadow please never respond to a post of mine ever again. Your constant negativity and pessimism offers no solution help. I'm tired of looking at the forums and seeing it laden with your hate

Awww :( hug?
It's not me you should be mad at.

If this was the second time you attended fanime I would be nice to you.
But, it's not. You know the deal. It's been the same answer it's always been for the last 5 years.
The info comes out whenever it comes out. Neither me, you, some staff know. When ever the top brass in charge deems it's time, it's then.

If my comments bum you out, too bad. It's the real world. When things go bad for things/stuff you paid for, you have the ok to voice your dislike. When you do that, things get fixed, the problem, corrected to ensure it doesn't happen again. Its been proven year after year. Just have see where the "wheel of fix" lands this year.

There you go. Hugs and kisses.
Loving yours,
Echo.

I'm sure at this point everyone is stalying the forums to see if any info on hotel reservations becoming available.

Anyone have any info to share? Secrets?

Fanime why no word!!!!!

They have a hard enough time making the schedule release date the week of the con, what makes you think they could release hotel information on time....er... I mean when the contract finalized with CMR?
Come on now. After 4 years of basically the same rodeo you'll think they'll get it right?

Just keep checking the main site, forums, fb and Twitter for info if and when it's up.

Oh! I completely agree about the "cliquey" thing. People are always in their groups.
Oh well! As long as there is a meetup, I'm happy.
I was just hoping to meet people as well ; v ;
Thank you very much! <3

Lol yeah that was the first thing I noticed about fanime vs. every other con. I got used to random invites to room/dinner/drink parties, then when I ask people if they want to join me for drinks they all looked like I asked them for $20k.

But yeah, there are lots of meet ups and what not. That's if you can stand like taking pics and chitchat.  What I been doing after the cosplay became a bit boring to me was just getting a group for the Black & White Ball and after party/drinks.

That's another thing you can check out. The black and white ball. And there is always the dance lessons before you can check out.

You might have better luck joining up with EVA group meet up. That's if you want to spend most of the time taking pics.

Kind of sad there's hasn't been any replies, but sad the forums have gone this dead. Anywho, given the past meet up threads, sadly 75% of the people don't show.

You might have a better chance of joining a fanime group on Facebook. Even then, I seen about 50% of people showing up. Sadly that's Fanime crowd mentality, it's always seems too cliquey
But don't let me get you down I'm just an old fart in the anime cons.
