This game sucks, but it's fun at least to a certain extent. It's one of those "I'll mess around with friends" kind of fighting game, nothing to take very seriously.

More like 8. Two at each golfland, two at sjsu, and two at sfsu.

Poor poor soul, you don't know how Capcom does it's shitty arcade system distro for SSF4. You need TWO boards to run head to head. So yes, it may look like there's more, but in reality it's not that much. Good job Capcom for sapping the arcade industry of even more money they don't have.

Uh yes I do understand that you need two boards because they're separate cabinets. I do prefer it that way. Head to head is way better than standing next to someone who doesn't know the meaning of personal hygiene, or someone who likes to move like a crack addict while playing.

But if you only had one cabinet, you can't play two players on it, you need two individual boards, to perform like any other normal arcade machine.

Serious Business / Re: why NOT to go to fanime!
February 11, 2011, 02:06:54 AM
You know, the world is filled with crap that isn't good for anyone, yet we still have to stand by and have to take it in. It's called ignoring/building immunity. If you can not do this, I hope you enjoy your little bubble because you are NOT going to survive in this world. As people are trying to make people more tolerant and mature, you kind of people show up and have a huge bias/prejudice and don't even think twice about just ignoring it. I can't believe such a small menial thing will prevent you to going to Fanime, if you have fun, just go and ignore it for fucks sake. This thread is done, I've let it rock for way too long.

*EDIT*

Since I know you'll still look at this thread eventually, nice response on your personal text. You caused it from your bitching, at least accept it without being sore.

With Doom, you can even play it on modern pcs without the need of Dosbox or anything, just use a newer source port (you still need the .wad files, think of them as the game files.) I recommend using Chocolate Doom or PrBoom+, they're easy to set up and you don't need ancient technology to make them run. I'm actually unsure about PrBoom+ lan capability, as it's more of a TAS utility than for co-op, but I do know Chocolate Doom does allow for lan up to 4 players (like Original Doom.) If you want to delve further you can use even more modern source ports like Zdaemon (which needs an internet connection I think?) or Skulltag (don't need an internet connection.) These are based off Zdoom and have a lot of their limits taken off (you can play with up to 32 people iirc) they do introduce mouse look and jumping though (which I personally don't like in Doom and some techniques used for DM are unable to be used in the ports.) If you need to know more feel free to ask me :)

Good suggestions for older FPS games for deathmatch would be like Doom 2 (dwango5 custom map set for dm), Quake 1-3 (any of them are really good) even older Build engine games like Blood would be pretty neat. There would probably be a lot of people that don't post on the forums, but once they see the older games they'd probably go nuts haha. If you don't have dos machines, you can always use DosBox for playing them (really easy to set up too I can help explain at the next meeting or whenever.)

If you can't ignore what is around you, and deal with people who have their own likes then you have some major problems. And if everyone didn't go to a con because they don't like a certain thing, there would be no one going. Your ignorance is stupid, and you should learn to accept and grow up.

As I see it, if something you do not like is not interacting with you directly, I do not understand why you have a problem with it.

No love for old DOS games? Sad. If you guys do some older FPS games for deathmatch, I'd be down to play given I have time to play.

Doom would be nice, I guess QuakeWorld too.

Starcraft 2. I'd totally try and find a way to play, in between working.

Balance in fighting games is hard to get right. If everything was perfectly balanced on a 50/50 fighting field, gameplay would be boring, mediocre, and boring. It would just be Street Fighter 1. Every character would have the same moves, there would be no advantages nor disadvantages. What makes a fighting game good? Is it the imbalance that is present, but yet the imbalance does not hinder the characters ability to win and perform even if it is difficult for the character to win?.

Games that have imbalance, that aren't lopsided too hard, such as Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting, many of the characters in the game are playable, and can win, some characters just have a harder time; but while in a fighting game like Marvel vs Capcom 2, not every character is playable, and each character tier is obviously better than the tier below them. While Marvel vs Capcom 2 has a roster that has tier of characters that are almost unbeatable by the ones below them (exception would be like Top/high mid can fight each other) the "playable" tier is a quite big choice of characters.

I've pondered deep about imbalance, and it's really really hard to get right without constant testing and thinking, and if done wrong, you can end up with Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix.

Even in First Person Shooters there are imbalances. I'll use Quake Team Fortress for an example, since it was one of the first games I took kind of seriously and thought a lot about. There are different classes, and each have their own unique abilities. Some classes just perform better against certain others. Even in deathmatch type games such as Doom where every player has the same amount of things the other players can do, it's imbalanced by where you spawn, what weapon is near you, what part of the map you are on, etc.

Games need imbalance to be enjoyable, and good, it's what makes games different. Would a fight between two people same size, same build, same technique be fun? Lets say they can only throw right jabs, and are only able to punch the other person in the stomach, and can only move back or forth. I wouldn't want to watch that fight.
