would Escaflowne count as old school? it was aired in 1996... but still, 15 years is quite a while!

Yep~! 1996 meets the cutoff date of before 2000. :D

I'm planning on cosplaying from Anime!Producer-san from THE iDOLM@STER. I got everything down except for the tie. The problem I'm having is keeping the stripes on the knot if I use a traditional tie. Would a clip-on tie or a zip-up tie be more effective here?

I don't have a whole lot of experience with either kind of ties (I usually just use normal ties), and none at all with the clip-on ones, but I'd think that the zip up one would stay on better. Also, seeing as you don't have to tie or untie either, however the stripes are on the knot won't change. I guess it all comes down to whether you can find a zip up (or clip-on, really) one in the right colors and stripe width and whatnot...

One thing that I constantly notice is that it is difficult for many people to tell the difference between "being a jerk" and "being fair and stern" (possibly aggressive?). I won't defend negative rover action (or from anyone else), but I will say that the rovers staff train their staff very well. If you have an issue, please remember that you can always report it (in person during con, e-mail, etc.).

To clarify: by "Rude" I mean that he sounded pissed off and condescending when he talked to people. There IS a difference between 'fair and stern' and 'being a jerk' that can be hard to see, I agree, but in this case I think that in a decent number of the 'rude staff member' cases, the staff member themself doesn't notice when they start crossing that line, or don't notice or understand the difference between sternness and condescention.

Of course, this is based on the actions of one of rover. I didn't come across any other, really, due to the fact that I was almost always on my feet and GOING. I did, however, hear similar things from other people.

Maybe it's not a fault of the training itself, but simply something that they don't realize that they're doing. What I meant by "addressed in training" was simply to use that opportunity to mention this to them.

I was on staff this year, and after one of my shifts I was walking around with one of the rovers that I knew, and I too noticed that the rovers tended towards being kind of rude. Thing is, when I brought it up to him, he had no idea what I was talking about.

Not sure if it has occurred to anyone, but a lot of the rovers who are being rude don't realize it (of course, there are the exceptions, like the rover InsaneChan mentioned who pushed their group on the stairs).

Maybe this could be something that gets addressed in the staff training?

Last year was my 8th year attending, and I've never noticed that kind of rudeness amongst the rovers before, so I'm not sure if it was simply this year's batch or if I've just never had to deal with the rovers much in previous years, of if it's something else entirely.

Anyway yeah, thanks, that was a good bit of info. IF YOU CAN THINK OF ANYTHING I CAN DO TO MAKE THIS A BIT LESS "NAUGHTY" LET ME KNOW! =D
(P.S I will not take answers like "dont wear it", "dress your own gender", or "just wear pants"

As BunofGovt said, I'm sure bloomers would work, and if you combined those with white stockings or tights under the bloomers, I'm sure it would be fine (even the sheer ones). You could probably even find ruffly bloomers. (which, you know, I will be totally jealous of~ xD )

Good luck~

/Gasp! Your first Fanime! How exciting!

I'm not going to be cosplaying, but I'm really looking forward to the gathering this year... seeing as when I photographed it last year, everyone looked AMAZING~ (I was the one laying on the floor. haha... >_>;; )

Lestrange! <3

I'm not sure, after seeing a few HP characters, it hit me that I've never seen a gathering despite the popularity.

I remember seeing a gathering like... five or so years back, but there were more cosplayers than photographers and I just have one small, far away photo of it (so there's always the possibility that it could have been something else entirely)

Aww, I can't believe I missed this... curses!

This might be a little early, but would anyone want to do another meet for 2012? I'd be happy to help organize, though my schedule might get kind of full.

xo,

If there's an MS Paint Adventures gathering again this year, can it please please please not be in FHS? (if the area is even available...) They attracted wayyy more people than they thought they were going to and it was NO FUN to shoot (partially due to the chaos of squeezing everyone back there - and because it was just generally disorganized).

Personally, I loved the Hangout... Which I think was super obvious seeing as I spent most of my spare time in there laying on the floor.  :P

For next year, I'd definitely say fans wound be a good idea, either oscillating floor fans or those little battery operated hand held ones so cold air could be maneuvered into hot armor easier.

Also, I don't recall having a floor length mirror, but that seems like it would still be a great idea.

I didn't see it on the list, but would a small hair dryer be good? To be used to help paint or glue or the clear nail polish or something dry faster?

I can also bring things like bandaids, q-tips, and cotton rounds.
