Hey everyone,
Just wanted to give you a heads up about Registration for Masquerade. We will be accepting applications on March 29th, 2014. Any submissions prior will not be answered until the 29th. Rules and Regulations will be posted as soon as possible.
If you have any problems with Registration for Masquerade, you can send an email to
[email protected] with:
Name
Contact Info
Skit Name
Group Name
Any other specifics about your Skit/Walk-on (i.e. lighting, stage ninjas, sound, etc.)
Please be sure to attach your sound file in the email as well so we can get that all squared away early.
A confirmation email will be sent back to you with the forms needed for entry into Masquerade.
If you have any other questions, you can send an email to
[email protected].
Thanks for your patience

Thank you. :)
I didn't register as a group, but would I like to perform as a group with one other person. Also, when and where will the registration for the Masquerade be online as well as what information is needed to be submitted for registration? Lastly, are props and music allowed to be brought to the Masquerade? Sorry for all the questions, but this is my first contest I'm super nervous!:)
Thanks for the heads-up. Much appreciated.
One clarification: Will you only be looking at Masquerade entries starting the 29th? What's to stop things from filling up prior to then (especially since you put up the info one would need to e-mail) and there being no slots left for folks registering the 29th?

Yes, the Registration will be online. We are in the process of getting things set up for the 29th. If there are any complications with the online Registration, we will be looking at the email to get the entries.
As for the props, you should bring whatever props are needed for your skit.
Music should be submitted with your registration form that we will send to you when we accept your application.

We are currently in the process of getting this ready for an online Registration form so we can get as much info, to the right places and people. The 29th is our deadline for all of this and if there are any complications, we will go through the email.
If you have anything specific you would like to know about Masquerade, please send an email to

Eeee! Thank you for the info!
Do you know what time on the 29th registration should be opening? Usually it opens at midnight on a certain day. I just want to make sure that if I tried to register in the morning on the 29th the spots wouldn't all be filled.
bisouspapillonQuoteDo you know what time on the 29th registration should be opening?
It should be midnight, I will verify that with IT to confirm.
Was there a change in the scheduled time to register? Been up most of the night and haven't seen anything pop up on the Fanime webpage for Masquerade registration. Or are we just going to email in our registration?
Yeah Same here I just sent a email with all my info to the "cosplay" email address with my information. I am also waiting for the page to open as well. I've been up most of the night as well. I wonder if it is a little behind schedule or something
There should be something on the site soon. If all goes well.
There is still nothing- is there a link?
Hi all,
We are working on something, as a backup please send your registrations request via email and we will respond with forms and your number as soon as possible.
Thanks! :) I sent in my registration info yesterday, so is it still valid? Also, I am a minor, but my dad will be in the skit with me, so is that still okay with the rules? Again thank you and I'm really excited!!! :D

He will have to sign a minor permission form. And as long as you both have tickets, you should be good. :)
I sent in an email with the requested info, but it asked for skit name and music, and I am only applying as a walk-on. Do I still need to have a skit name, music, and other such items that are required for performances?
Sent my applications in as well.
Not sure on when I'll receive word back on what I sent to Erik cause I had some things I still needed to address with him.
I'm sure he's really busy though so I totally understand that.
Question: We are not 100% certain what song we are using can we submit the song at a later time or send one in but we might change it?

We've changed our song twice already. XD I'm sure you can change it later. Just make sure they have the right song when you go to check in.

They understand that things happen. :) The people on the Masquerade crew are wonderful, occasionally disorganized, but very accommodating.
Just wanted to ask...(cause now I'm feeling a little nervous).
PrincessSquibs, I used your template from last year to write my applications.
I didn't exactly follow the format listed above in the first post though all the elements are there.
Just in a different order.
But I have everything: Name, contact info, my group name and solo name, skit name (kind of the same), and of course we don't have a need for stage ninjas and I attached all my music.
Would it be a problem if it's NOT in the order listed in this first post?
Or if anyone can answer that, that would be helpful.
Would like to hear from Erik_Anderson due to his involvement as head of Masquerade if plausible.

No. I don't believe the order would matter. As long as each section is named, as to not arouse confusion. As long as the information is there, all should be well.
Has anyone heard back after submitting an entry? I haven't gotten anything in my e-mail and was curious to see if I'm alone in this wait.
I haven't heard back yet.
I'm sure that they're busy and going over all the entries.
Give them a little bit and I'm sure they'll get back to us when they can.

I heard back, but I sent in an email the night it was supposed to open. Though. they said they would be emailing out an official signup paper and such which I haven't gotten yet, so yeah I think they might just be busy or something.
My only question was my audio wasn't ready yet (still working out the editing bugs), but I went ahead and submitted my info with a note promising the audio when it's ready. I hope that will be okay.
So I sent an email on the 29th and have since talked so a team member from Fanime but all they said was that they would forward me to the masquerade department and I haven't heard anything back from anyone on the matter.
I would really like to participate in the masquerade this year but I haven't heard anything about the registration for it beyond these threads so I if anyone knows anything it would be really nice to get an update.
I've yet to receive anything either. I originally sent the information at midnight on March 29th (1 AM March 29th, late March 28th, whatever you will), and Erik responded saying he had touched down in London, but I haven't heard from him since and have no confirmation of whether or not I'm actually registered when I've followed up twice in the last week and some days. I'd really like to know if I made it through before I set to serious work on props/set and whatnot for the event. I understand things are busy right now, but this is kind of dropping the ball....
I agree with bisouspapillon.
I had done the same, in fact, I sent it on the night of and then also a day later (twice).
I'm not certain whether my team has been set.
And I would not like to give them the news we can't perform as they have all been looking forward to it.
I will stick with my belief that things are busy for all of the staff.
But the sooner we know, we sooner we can begin our own preparations.
Same for me; I have yet to receive anything as of yet. I sent my application when I didn't see anything that looked like a registration (because... I played by the rules and hoped they would have it up). It's the same with everyone who sent in an application, we would like to know what is even happening so we can make our plans around it and start with the props and costumes.
In my case, I would like to edit and add in more/subtract some members, but I'm too afraid that if I sent one in now I would be in the bottom pile.
Is there anyone staffing who could tell us... anything...? I'm REALLY hoping this isn't a sign that a repeat of last year's masquerade will happen.
Let us hope, all things turn out alright. :/
I sent in my registration to the cosplay email that was on Erik's first post on this topic, but i haven't heard back yet. I sent in my registration on the 29th at around 5:00. I saw that someone said that he answered her back about her registration. I'm getting a bit nervous that either I didn't get in or I emailed the wrong email address :/
I hope we hear something- because we start our skit every august and thats a whole lot of planning. Most likely we're waiting for a whole package deal to be sorted an put together once and for all- but its been over a week. Being in the dark is nerve racking sometimes.
Muah~! I think everyone who has posted about it should get an automatic slot. :0
It's scary to think we may not be able to participate.
It wouldn't be good if none of us got to participate.
I'm sure that won't be the case, but it has been ages since we heard from anyone about it...anyone with information anyway.
So here's to hoping that it won't be an issue.
So... hows everyone's day?
I heard back, and they told me that they would contact me soon with my "registration number" I saved the email just in case if anything happens in the shipping of stuff. I'm stull currently waiting for this "registration number". I heard back from them a few days after I submitted my info to the cosplay department the night the submissions opened.
If they are handling submissions via email do you think they should link to this forum topic on the Fanime website (under Cosplay Spectacular on this page: http://www.fanime.com/events/ (http://www.fanime.com/events/))?
I'm really getting frustrated with the fact that everything seems be getting handled in these forums and not properly publicized.

I think it might help. :-\
Yeah, I find it really unprofessional that this year (and last year) almost all Masquerade business has been conducted over the forums rather than updating the participants directly about what was going on. I had hoped that because last year was such a wreck, staff would be more on top of their game this year and better prepared.
If I don't hear back within a week or so, my group will probably have to drop because our skit is just so prop heavy and we don't want to have to crunch and stress over something that's supposed to be fun, but we don't want to start on prop work until we know we're in.

Jazqui! >< no don't drop! That would make me so sad face! (p.s. this is Michaela)

[email protected]It seems people were having trouble already trying to send to the address with Masquerade, also they call it the spectacular now so I have a feeling that is out dated.
odd...
I put in an email to the 'masquerade' one and I got a message back saying that site never existed, so I sent one to the cosplay email D8

I haven't heard anything from them... and I just double checked my email to see if I overlooked anything. I hope the rest of us hear back soon.
I'm going to be blunt.
This is ridiculous.
I had hoped after how badly botched last year's Masquerade was that Fanime would have learned something for this year. But I'm starting to wonder if they have. I sent my registration e-mail a few days after it opened, since I was spending time with my boyfriend the day it supposedly opened, and I have yet to hear back as well. I didn't include audio, 'cause I still need to edit it accordingly, but I'm starting to wonder if I should even bother at this point. I have no clue if I'm accepted, no clue about anything going on. And between this and Panels, I'm getting really annoyed.
So, I sent an email today, and this is what I received:
"Hi Miranda,
Yes we did. Sorry I have been out of the country for a little bit an getting caught up. I'll have forms out later tonight.
Erik
Head of Masquerade"
I think they're working on it. At least I hope so.
Hmm, at least you got some information.
I haven't heard anything back yet.
I hope that either my team or my own solo has been discounted....or pushed aside.
I'm a little worried about that...
If he's catching up on emails, I suppose that I don't need to write to him again.
I just feel nervous cause my team and I were rejected from Stage Zero...so I really want to be able to perform at Masquerade this year.

Stage zero is a bit on the picky side, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I can almost guarantee that you'll be in the masquerade as long as its pg13. Some people sign up even on the day of the performance, so... Hakuna Matata.
I've been emailing people like crazy and still havnt gotten no response
In regards to my registration when I last checked up on it there was 21 entries I need to know if my registration was accepted because I had trouble finding it I just want to make sure that I have a spot because I've been emailing sense about the 29th. Some one please help

DOn't worry, many/most of us are still in the dark.
What's the email you guys got a response to the only one I got said this user does not exist -_-

I got one from Erik himself.
Hey there, another concerned masquerade performer joining in on the convo.
Is PrincessSquib the only person to receive a reply from the Head?
I have heard from Erik before but he hasn't followed up to my questions as of late.
He has replied to me before but nothing from our last correspondance.
Hopefully there will be some news soon but I know he has been busy.
Erik - If you have a moment to answer my questions too, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

What email did you use to send in your entry? I'm being as patient as I can, but the paranoia is getting to me that I haven't heard back yet.
I've also heard from Erik himself, he replied to me a couple of times, the first one saying that he was going to forward my message to the head of the masquerade department, and the second one saying that he had emailed their boss and were still waiting to hear a reply back from them, so I'm not so sure he know's whats up either...

The email I sent was to

Hi All,
I apologize for my absence and will be answering questions in my next post.
Hello all,
I think I have responded to everyones queries directly, if I missed you please email me at
[email protected] or post it here.
Thank you,
Erik
Hi, I emailed you about craftsmanship judging and did not receive an email back. I wanted to know where the masquerade judging forms are, and how we would sign up for a time slot.
Would it be possible to change from a skit to a walk-on later on? If so, how late do I have to?
I've been juggling school, exams, and the costumes and I'm not sure wether I can still get everyone and everything I need ready in order to do my skit. I've already been informed that I am in the Masquerade and hope that changing to a walk-on won't mean I lose my spot in the show.
THANK YOU!!! :)
I was wondering what the acceptable format for music is if you're turning it in at the convention. I looked at the rules and that particular field has been left blank. Would you want a cd with the track or can we put an mp3 on a flash drive, etc.?
Thank you!

I believe they prefer flash drive, but they take CDs as well.

Its no longer masquerade@fanime. Its the cosplay@fanime. And it takes a day or two after you send it to that email. :3
