So I am curious to know where to people who attend fanime visiting from? I am comming form Utah and I have three friends form AZ coming as well. Anyone else form az or Utah by chance?
I live about 10 miles from the Convention Center itself. It's pretty much a bus ride and a bit of walking for me, if that makes any sense.
XD
I'm coming from Sonora, CA. I'm a couple hours away.
Ione. I may need a ride this year if the car isn't back from the shop. Yeah it is STILL there.
A lot of active members of this forum live right in San Jose, where the convention center is.
Comin' in from San Francisco, here.
Oakland.
Right now its Tracy
next year San Francisco
Hayward, the heart of the bay...
that's what the official motto is <<;;
Burlingame, CA... but since no one ever knows where that is, I usually say San Francisco. =/ (For the record, it's about thirteen miles SOUTH of SF.)
Salinas, CA, that's where I live for now, in 2009 I might be moving to Sunnyvale.
3 blocks away... Unless I'm at work... then about 1.. unless I don't move from the fairmont... then 0.
Wisconsin! :D

I'll be traveling from L.A. San Fernando Valley to be exact.

Myself and half a dozen of my friends will be coming from Modesto.
=D
Daly City or San Francisco, depends on who I pick up. They're right next to each other anyways, so it doesn't make much of a difference.
From Southern Cali (El Monte)! a 5-6 hr drive up North! W00t.
You guys should come visit me o_o
Norwalk, Ca. (About half way between down town L.A. and Disneyland on I-5)
Sacramento ca. And I have 3 friends comming from yonkers ny and brooklin ny crazy huh?
A 6-mile hop from Santa Clara. Usually takes ~7-20 minutes to downtown SJ (~7 by car, 12-15 by the Rapid 522 bus, 20 by the failure that is the 22 bus).

Life is ok here I guesss. I love going to san jose more though lol
I used to live in San Leandro Ca, and from there it was about 45mins. or so. Unfortunately I live in Stockton ca, now. So it's about 1 and 45mins. from the convention in San Jose. Luckly though I've been going to Fanime since 2004 and I've lived close to the Bay Area, so I know my around pretty well. = ) Plus the fact that I have a teribble habit of speeding, so it shouldn't take me long to reach Fanime Con.
From 15 minutes away. ;D
Sacramento.

I was planning on going last year, but I couldn't fit in into my schedule. I'm hoping to make it in 08. I just got one of my friends into anime and she really wants to go to a convention.
And I use this name everywhere on the internet; I'm not surprised you think it's familiar. ;)
From Felton CA although since most people don't know where Felton is I just say Santa Cruz. To be even more specific my house is technically closer to Los Gatos than Santa Cruz.
It's about a 30-40 minute drive from my house, but I still get a hotel room anyway. A 30-40 minute drive seems like eternity at 3AM after you'v been at the con all day, especially when you know you have the same trip to look forward to in the morning.
I am among those from the Salinas ninja clan. I manage to recognize loads of people from my town during fanime.
im hoping to make fanime 2008 ill be flying over from uk
Im flying in from AZ, but my friend (if I can get her to) will be flying from Texas. Talking to her about it durring x-mas.
About 1/2 hour drive
idk felton i think is closer to santa cruz then los gatos well it depends on were in felton. i live in los gatos about a 10 min drive
Wow at all the people coming from out of state, or even out of the country. I can't imagine going somewhere I've never been before, or only gone to once or twice, from another state. Then again, I'm something of a chicken concerning new things and places. XP
Getting to SJ is maybe twenty-minutes worth of driving for me.

I'm coming from WI, but I used to live in CA and went to Fanime when I lived there. It's so much fun I just had to keep up the tradition! I'm going to try out Acen in Chicago this year too though.
"Down the street"
It's great seeing many ppl from out of state coming to SJ for Fanime. Just make sure you guys have hotel rooms/crash space.

I'll be coming from Santa Maria, CA by train. This will be my first time at Fanime, as well as my first time at an Anime Convention.
If anyone is traveling from Ione, I'd like to ask permission for a ride. I live on Lake Camanche. I don't have a ride to the con, and I rather not waste a $45 badge.

I'm from the northeastern corner of Oklahoma. I have no idea in the world how I will get there (flying is kind of expensive), but I really want to go. Then again, I might not even be able to convince my mom to let me go :(.
Where from? I am flying out from Tulsa. I already have my ticket. It is kinda expensive but it would be better then driving out.
I'm from Grove. The problem is convincing my mom to let me fly (she's terrified of planes), but it's true that flying would be a lot easier. If I flew I would definitely be flying out from Tulsa.
I has there today when I was driving around.
My dad is worrying about me flying out alone so he wants my step borther to go with me. Would it help her if you would be flying out with someone?
It might help. The first step is convincing her to let me go though. How much did your plane ticket cost?
$264.. I went on cheaptickets.com.
If it would help I am 19 and another female that knows someone in California so that might make your mom feel better.
I'm coming from the Concord area just north of SJ, it's only about an hour drive. I'm bringing like 8 people with me.
Thanks. I'll talk to her. I'm not sure if it will work, but I'll try and see if she would be ok with it. I've never gone to a con before so I'm slightly noobish and the idea of traveling there alone is a little frightening.
As your first con you might try going to one in or around Oklahoma. But we can try and give it s shoot so you can go.
Me and 20 others are coming from Bakersfield, California! 4 Hours drive up I-5 North!

I'm coming from Nevada City, which is a little town between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. It's about a three hour drive or so. Just the right distance of a drive to listen to a few anime OSTs and make "ON THE ROAD TO FANIME" signs to flash at the cars we pass! >D Man, I love that car ride.
Hey, PacificPikachu, I think I've seen you posting on Ensuing's LJ. Hi!

I got about 3 friends from Tahoe coming to Fanime for the weekend too so I had to help them get them a hotel. lol.

O_O; Your previous post said you're from Fremont, CA (me too~!) What school is allowing you to do this? I wanna go as a field trip... >_> I'm going right after school.
The Japanese cultural club at American HS talked about giving a discount for the ticket to fanime if you're an active member (well that's what my friend told me when she went to the meeting today).

I went to one last year or the year before last year... I don't remember, I just know it was at a teen or community center. I only went because my friend told it to go. I don't even know the date. XD She saw it in the local paper.
If I knew when and where the cons are, I would go to more! =D (I saw in your signature there's one in the summer? Where? When? =D I'd love to go~~~~!)
I'm coming from Ft. Worth Texas
XD
I went to A-kon last year to see An Cafe, it was fun but I really wanna see An Cafe again..that and well i thought it would be fun to go to California since i've never been.
I'm kinda nervous because this will only be my second convention and I've never been to California before
^///^
And since i don't have much (or any) friends it'll just be my sister and I.
I'm not a huge fan of large crowds..but i'm getting myself out of my comfortzone for this.

Don't worry about that. You can pretty much go up to anyone and start a conversation with them (if you aren't too shy). If you are shy, just start going to cosplay gatherings so you can meet people who likes the same game/manga/etc and it'll be easier to strike up a conversation since you at least know one of their interests since... well they're wearing cosplay from the series of the gathering =D Everyone is really nice and awesome~! =D

Normaly i'm not so shy it just takes me a while to get comfortable, but seeing how it's a convention i may get comfortable quicker

I dunno what you guys are talking about but I loved High School!
We ditched school to go smoke and eat burritos almost every week.
^^ Gilroy, California. About an hour..or more away from San Jose. I always get lost at the convention center though.

I am coming from Santa Cruz and am willing to give rides to people in the outlying areas if necessary. I have only one passenger so far and my car seats five (driver included) leaving three spaces open. IM me if interested. My AIM ID is seiginotenchi, and my yahoo messenger ID is couregar.
Davis, CA :D It shouldn't be much of a problem to get there, since we have friends that live out in San Jose too. This'll be my first time going to Fanime, though XD I hope we don't get lost.

Yep. Otakuthon is fun, but it's nothing compared to the scale of the big west coast cons like Fanime.
Well, i got a 9 hour train ride from OC
Ya, it blows, i know
Heading down there from Roseville (about 10 min away from Sac) Yay 916!
Coming down from Tacoma, WA for my 3rd Fanime. Missed last year cause of scheduling conflicts...ended up going to AX. Gah. That sucked. It'll be nice to go back to Fanime!

Oh, wow. I thought you were in your early twenties. I couldn't stand high school, so I'm glad that was over with.
(Yes, this is a very late reply)
Wait... your profile says you're 17, but you're done with high school?
Lol, a late reply to a late reply.
I finished high school 2 years early and am a sophmore in college, but currently taking a semester off. I'll be 18 by the end of this year, though.
in short, she got out early and has a lot of time to slack off before she needs to get on track. XP
Haha, not entirely true. I shouldn't be slacking off. I should hurry up and decide what I want to do with my life and pick a major to stick with and finish at least one degree. Meanwhile, I'm getting personal things to get done and hopefully will be working again soon. :U
I feel pretty rushed, despite being 17. Had I known already what the hell I wanted to do from the beginning, I could've been able to graduate a uni by 19, but noooo.
You SHOULDN'T be slacking off, but you CAN since you got out of high school a lot earlier than most of us. :)
Irony would set in if you got out of high school early only to graduate from college late. :X (knock on wood)

Well, there graduating late is subjective. It would depend on what I decide on doing. It might be earlier than others, around the same time, require more studying than others, or not at all. =)
I wanted to be an audio engineering major, but that grants a life of uncertainty. Any art major at this point looks like it's on shaky ground right now. Business and law seem intimidating, but possible. A science major would be too strict depending on which discipline I decide to follow. For now, I'm just filling out GEs mindlessly. =(
Both Mikey and I will be coming in from Millbrae, some friends from SoCal, and a few from the NYC are coming too.
Yay for filling out GEs mindlessly. That was me the past 3 years, hahahaha.
If you are computer savvy, there will ALWAYS be a need for computer engineers and programmers.
You seem good at telling things to people's faces, maybe you should get into business. ;) I'm a nice guy, so I don't know how I'll survive as a business manager. :)

Ya, it blows, i know
I'm taking the train too so not to worry! haha (just pack your DS or PSP or laptop..or whatever)
In any way of coming (although I'll already be in California) I'll be flying allllllll the over from the Philippines! hahah I win in distance...j/k!

AHAHAHA... You speak as if they're high on demand right now. A CIS major was my very first one... it EXTREMELY boring trying to get a degree from that. Augh.

I'm too weak for business-- Business entails a lot more than just being blunt and honest. Even I can't be a dick enough to be in that field, and in most cases I'm a lot nicer than I need to be, but I don't put my deeds up on a pedestal for people to praise me. I'd get eaten alive. Pyron, however, would survive just fine. My best friend, who's also a close friend of Pyron, is working in business and making 6 figures about, despite the fact that he was a medical major. IIRC, he only got a job in business just a couple of months ago and was asked by a friend because he'd do well and the fact that he's a big meanie. Even Pyron thinks so. :(
But he's my best friiiiieeeend~ (Lol, are you reading this. Oh sh*t, he's watching.)

I'm currently a business major, it's pretty cutthroat when it comes to those internships everyone wants and grades (Some professors grade on a normal curve. If you don't know what a normal curve is, pay attention to math.). I run a corporation with a friend of mine who started the company when he was 16, so I'm pretty set in terms of careers, but a lot of my friends are out there killing each other. Sometimes literally and figuratively. Oh, for example in group projects, if you give any hint of weakness in your contributions to the project, the group will block you out and give you a lot of grunt work, report you as if you did nothing for the project, and essentially get you kicked off the project. It's a cruel cruel world we live in. I've seen friendships just break apart because they competed for the same jobs. One of my friends got hired at Oracle but he had to fight his best friend for the job. They aren't friends anymore. Another one of my friends got a job at AMD with my help (I introduced him to some of my business contacts there) and one of our mutual friends no longer talks to us cause I didn't help him get the job. Sad isn't it?

Augh. I am very sure I'm too weak for business. I am also very stubborn when it comes to breaking morals. While I don't present myself as the nicest person in the world, I'm never able to go the route where I have to screw someone over-- but who knows. I might treat work differently. Regardless, I'm too wishy-washy to even consider it as a major at the moment. XD

Lol. Ed works in Google, now. He's a MAN with a REAL JOB now. >:U
Team destroyers get fired. >=( I take a hard line against stupid people.
On another note, I'm glad I don't see it at all in my own company, cause that would make me sad. Too bad it's just how business works lol.
Google is a good company, I had a chance to meet with some of their senior staff and hopefully I'll meet more of them at computex in a couple of months (Don't remember if google will be there). The best, brightest, and most hardworking people work there. It's their business model coupled with the relaxed atmosphere that is integrated into their corporate culture that makes the company so great and innovative at the very moment. Hopefully they can keep it up.
Oh to survive in business someone will get screwed.
Whether it be the consumer, a competitor, or w/e. Someone always gets the shaft.

Wow! And I thought my 5 hour drive from the San Fernando Valley was long. Would probably make it there in less time, but the CHP will probably be out in full force since it'll be a holiday weekend.
I'm coming in from Southern Indiana. This is my 6th year at Fanime Con. キタ-----(゚∀゚)----- !!!!!
Well I'm looking forward to my life outside of college. Thanks Steve.

Oh of course I will, because I'll be going to a wine tasting, and eating lots of epensive food on my school dollar! haha
Laid back is my kind of deal!
Ohh! could we take a take a picture together because my Canadian teacher honestly believes I don't like him because he's Canadian...(It's not true, I like him a lot, he's just easier to joke around with/make fun of!)

Tell him to go back to Canadia! >=(
No, I'm kidding. Again, that's quite the commute. I had mentioned it to a friend the other day and he told me that the first time he traveled to SoCal, it was by train... from Canada. I've never really been on a train in America before, other than public transportation "trains" like CalTrain and uh, BART.
I think that joke between me and him has gotten a little to far because, one of my Deans is American too (plus another 2 teachers) and we play jokes on him all the time..Then my another teacher told him that American's and Canadians to get along..So I think he has it stuck in his head...but it's all in good fun!
And trust me I have told him to go back to Canada many times...All me tells me is go back to Germany...or some other country. It's all in good fun with my teachers.
*ahem* Back on topic...Yeah it is a long commute on train (even longer if I was coming STRAIGHT from plane to the train) but it will be well worth it; Seeing friends I haven't seen in years/months and on top of that meeting everyone on this forum..yay for fun-ness!
Haha, if you see a tall curvy brunette with a short messy bob and most likely wearing rimless glasses, with the name Moonblossom on her nametag, feel free to bug me for a pic. :)
I'll just take the 23 and be there in 10 minutes.
I'm traveling about...
20 miles North ;D
So I'd say about a 30 min drive
I'm coming down from Roseville, CA ^-^ [riiiight next to Sacramento].
