Hotel Name: Hyatt Place

Just one little question. How big are the rooms in Hyatt? The site said they were 600 sq ft, but back when it was the Crowne Plaza the rooms were about as small if not smaller than the Marriott and Hilton. Did they gut the entire insides or something?

Hotel Name: Marriott
Would You Book Next Year: Maybe, it depends on our budget.

Pros:
-One of our roommates has a handicap placard, which automatically gave us free valet parking at the Marriot.
-We booked a jr suite this year. Totally worth it. Sooooo much space. Great for people with bulky cosplays.
-You get a king bed, and a couch that can be rolled out into a bed. You can easily fit three on the king and two on the couch.
-We were also surprised to find a complimentary mini-fridge in our room, since the hotel never mentioned it on their site. But then again, what kind of suite doesn't come with a fridge?
-Bathroom was also wide and spacious and I loved how it came with toiletries and even a mini sewing kit(Great for cosplay repairs!)!
-Staff was great this year. Room service always brought in extra towels and toilet paper when we requested them.
-Compared to last year when we had a standard room, check in and check out went surprisingly smoothly(I guess it helps if you pay all in cash). Even the elevators at check-out weren't so bad. And god bless that bell hop for letting us take the service elevator with all our luggage. i wished we could have tipped him.

Cons: There were times when Marriott staff would leave us in the dark about certain hotel amenities, such as the mini fridge and the deposit fee. We were told it would $100 per night, only to find out at check-in it was $50. Unlike other hotels who let you pay at check out, you have to pay the full amount UP FRONT. Also if we had known we were getting a fridge, it would have saved us the trouble of bringing a cooler. The elevators during the weekend were the worst though. It would take me an average 10-15 minutes to get an unpacked elevator. Also with Valet parking, you're not allowed to go near your car. So if you forget some luggage in your trunk, only the staff can get it for you.

In addition, while this isn't the hotel's fault at all, we were on the 14th floor which seems to be the PARTY floor. A drinking party was going on next door. Con goers and even fanime staff members were crammed in this standard room, getting drunk, being noisy, and spreading their body heat outside our door. It felt like a sauna made from human heat. EW. D: I wished the Marriott staff had come in to settle things down earlier instead of waiting for hours.

Special Notes to Share: Not much to share. The jr suites were amazing! I've always disliked the Marriott standard rooms, and wish they provided similar services like the suite we got. Considering how pricey the Marriott can be. But please know this, just because it's a bigger space DOES NOT mean you should have more roommates. Then you'll just have a bigger mess to take care of.

Won't be bringing Harry this year, sorry. ^^;

If you don't have a fridge(Like us) in your room, bring non-perishable or canned foods and save the refrigerated stuff for when you arrive at the con. Instant noodle isn't a very nutritious food to live on the weekend, so bring other stuff like oatmeal, energy bars, or pb & j sandwiches. If you bring a crock pot you can also make soup, pasta, stew, rice etc. Fresh or dried fruit is good, since they don't always need refrigeration. Don't feel like making anything? What I love about Fanime's location is the wide access to restaurants and fast food places around the area. Every Saturday my friends and I will have dinner at a random restaurant. Love ya House of Pizza. <3

I'm making sure everyone of our roommates eats or drinks before they head out. Especially since one of my friends is hypoglycemic, which makes her prone to shakes, unless she gets some food in her. We don't want anyone to collapse in exhaustion this year. Even if you're not that hungry, at least carry a snack bar and some water as you walk around the con.

I'll say. One of my friends caught con funk from a random hugger. D: Please shower folks, don't try to cover it up with axe or perfume.

I think it'll just be a solo act for Chiba instead of the whole band. So yeah, the entire band of Sendai Komatsu might not be there. ^^;

Are there any hotels that absolutely do NOT take cash. Last year when we were in the Marriott, the hotel refused to let us pay in cash and would only take a card. Not to mention, we had to pay immediately upfront instead of at checkout :/. Are there any hotels that take check at all too?

Nope Nightmare is still together.

Are we only having two musical guests this year?

Can't say I blame anyone for being disappointed. In my opinion, this year's musical guests(unless there's more TBA) are a bit meh compared to the guests years before. But you know, there's more to Fanime than just Musicfest and I'm sure the staff tried their best to at least get us some decent guests. It's not a bad thing if that's your main reason for going though. Who's knows, maybe the Musicfest will be even more fun than expected. Though it's whether you're up for it or not and maybe next year we'll have better luck.

Nooo don't get my hopes up about Nightmare, it'll just make me sad if they aren't announced. Though having Chiba is just totally awesome by itself.
#54
I'm hoping for that too! Nightmare would be so awesome!

So unfortunately we shall be outside rather than inside but I'll still going to do my best to get that real tea made even if it's outside >:D

In that case I would bring a really big thermos. The tea can be brewed in a hotel room.

Is it all right if I showed up dressed as Hizaki from Versailles?

I will put my faith into Fanime. They've pulled through with guest many times before. In my opinion, announcing the guests late is a little better than sooner. If Fanime were to get someone really big again, you'd bet that there would be a 10000+ increase of attendees coming to see ONLY that guest. Such as when An Cafe came in 2008. Fanime gets bigger every year and our usual convention building isn't going to house everyone for much longer. So I'm perfectly fine with it, but remember Fanime has way more to offer than just Guest of Honor.

I actually was planning on starting a panel about basic wig care. But glad to see someone else who's starting on it!

Hotel and Facilities / Suites available?
January 18, 2012, 01:01:12 PM
I'm getting a lot of friends who want to room with me this year, so I was wondering if the suites will be available at all? Specifically for the Marriott? I know they're usually reserved for staff members and guests of honor, but will they be open to regular con goers? Otherwise I may have to book two rooms.
