Title: What are you planning to buy this year? (2008 edition)
Post by: FanFicGuru on January 24, 2008, 08:52:40 AM
Well, I'm typically one that budgets out EVERYTHING fairly early on. I'm going to be bringing about 1000 to fanime again this year...not including room, but including food.

Soundtracks...figures and a selection of anime are on my list. Series that I haven't had a chance to pick up yet. I'm also looking for wall-scrolls and of course....more shirts!

How about the rest of ya?

Manga and plushies are at the top of my list.  :P  I don't have anything specific in mind, thought I'd just wander around and see what there is.

Import games on the PSP, H-Doujins, some CD's, maybe some figures if I see something good worth buying some Hentai DVD's  ;D, maybe some YuGiOh cards or VS cards.

Hmm.....

-Mangas
-Keychain figures
-Maybe a game (If I can find a good import for my DS or PS3)
-Maybe a H-doujin or two
-Maybe a DVD
-Cards (YGO and maybe any of the VS Series *Collecting wise unless someone can really help me learn the game*)

Who knows what I could find...

I'll be taking about 2k with me, and that'll including everything, food, hotel, things I buy. Which will consist of figures mostly, scrolls, dvds, plushies, maybe some adult stuff.  :P

I'm hoping to get more Haruhi Suzumiya stuff. Mainly figures though. I don't trust Ebay about figures...

I'm also gonna be looking for plushies and maybe manga. Random stuff is cool thing. XD

I'm going to buy an Obitsu body for my Pullip if I haven't already yet, and possibly some Re-Ments for her, and clothes if I can find. Aside from that, I'd really like to get Haibane Renmei on DVD, and maybe some Yotsuba manga since I'm currently obsessed with it.

Probably just some random cute toys aside from that :)

My shopping list for the dealers room is rather small this year. ^^: I'm just keeping an eye out for any Pandora Hearts merchandise I can find and Strawberry Lunch doujinshi. Possibly any CLAMP or Harukanaru artbooks I don't already have. Otherwise, I'm just playing it all by what I see.

I'm always on the look out for One Piece stuff, usually Ufo Catchers.

Other than that, the list goes something like...

Ufo Catchers,
Mini Figures,
Key Chains,
Random Stuffs.

Random thing from last year that I still regret not getting, a One Piece Blanket! >.< It was... $24 I think, and I'd already purchased two over-priced items from the seller already and had been lied to by them (I was purchasing an Eyeshield 21 Plush set, and had asked the day before if they had Hiruma, the blonde character. I'd been told no, and came in the next morning to see it hanging on their display.) Still though, kinda wishing I'd purchased it, maybe they'll have it this year.

Oh... and if I find it for a good price: Ouendan! Both of them! XD

Huh, guess the list is a bit longer than I thought it would be.

What I won't buy:

DvDs,
Manga.

Why? Because I find that they're generally average priced compared to where I shop, so I'd rather save the money for things that I'm not gonna find in the local DvD store or book store.

I've got 800 saved up now including room, but it starts the day after my birthday so I plan on having more cash from that. No actual plans for the money yet, but I want to be ready for anything that might catch my eye. ;D

I am bringing about $500 which includes food (for thursday through Monday until I get back to Tulsy Town) but not room.

I am looking for stuff that I will be able to take back home through the airports so I don't think that i am going to get more than a few manga, dvds, plushies and shirts.

Crap! Reading on what sum of cash they have I need to get to my Goal and fast of $300.00+!!! Maybe if I got to a budget of instant noodles and I can't get a job cause of my college life, what a bother, what a bother.

So what to do...

Anyway I just look around at the swap meets and booths, but I hope to get a Zeon MS-14 Gelgoog, to go along with my MS-06F Zaku II and my EMS-10 Zudah.

Bowen Dragon has started selling 2008 hand-forged Fanime swords.

150 bucks... and it doesn't look like the cheaper option will be available this year (or at least, it isn't yet). Still...awesome collectible.

Most of my purchases are on an impulse, but I go into the dealer room searching out the specifics first.  This year I want Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! for DS, a Hinata or Sakura keychain, some manga, and at least one Galaxy Angel DVD.  Things I don't expect buying but might consider are gashapon figures and plushies, CDs, and doujinshi.

I'm not very big on buying stuff in the Dealer's Hall, but I'll browse around for any obscure things that I'd like to have... Kaiji/Akagi/Fukumoto memorabilia would be freakin' awesome.  I just got into Kaiji and Akagi and would love some merch  *w*  Maybe some Gurren Lagann stuff too.  Possibly some doujins...

I'm aiming to spend a lot in the Artist's Alley this year, though.  Fanime's AA is pretty formidable, and I'm sure I'll find tons of artists I like there.  I want to splurge on them XD Support the artists!  Hell yeah!

- My annual pin and plushie
- Anything cute that I can use that catches my eye (pencil cases, mechanical pencils, cell phone straps, etc.), typicall I don't have much luck in this area
- Hope to find a good CD again (two years ago I managed to somehow pick up an Amano album... what luck I had!)
- If there is anything else. Doubt I'll find much merchandise for Kino no Tabi or Red Garden, but if I do, I may or may not buy it.

I never buy much.

I'll definately be on the lookout for Katekyo Hitman Reborn stuff. It's my new favorite series and I'm in love with the characters so I want to get goodies from that. Aside from Reborn...I dunno. My problem tends to be that my favorite character from a series isn't the most popular/doesn't have as much merch made of them. I tend not to buy much manga and dvds cause I can get them outside of the con, but I'll probably have a list of series I need to update in case I do decide to buy. I love jrock related stuff, so maybe something there...but if I reign in my impulse buying to just Reborn and even there, just Mukuro, I probably won't go insane...PROBABLY *sweatdrops because she knows her own spending habits*

I spend a lot of money in Artist Alley.  Every year I start off finding someone to draw an anime style picture of me like this... (https://forums.fanime.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi223.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fdd134%2FSlrSparks%2Fbadge.jpg&hash=7807938f53b808211014b3d66aedc1512369e9f5)

After I do that I try to find something really interesting in AA.  Then I go buy silly t-shirts and stuff in the Dealers room.

Gundam Wing doujinshi is at the top of my list like it always is. XD  (I swear, I'm still obsessed with that anime after seven years.)  Other than that, I don't really have a strict list.  Maybe I'll go for more plushies and Gundam models this year (there's an odd pairing).  Oooh!  And I'll browse Artist Alley more thoroughly this year.  I've never really stopped to really look at anything in there, usually because it can get crowded and I don't want to block anybody's way or view. >_>;;

Guns, swords, and diamonds.
If those aren't there, I'm looking for some Lycee. I might get back into that.
Besides that, nothing re-- wait, Kara no Kyoukai things, if they exist. I might not get the movie when it comes out, so maybe Fanime will have it.

I'm planning on splurging on all the An Cafe merchandise that I can get ahold of, and then other than that, I suppose I'll get a gloomy bear plush or two, some sort of cute hat or maybe a better pair of cat ears than the ones I have now. Some Pinky:St figures, too, since they're adorable and I've been wanting them for years upon years.

Then I guess the remaining money will go towards figures. I really want to get a Lovedol figure and maybe a Sumomo from Nanatsuiro Drops. I also want to splurge on Aria stuff, since that's my current obsession. Maybe an Air Gear figure (I'd really like a Simka one). Other stuff as I see it, also. x3

I actually made a shopping List this year that way I don't spend too much but also get the things I have been waiting to get. I posted a couple things already on the swap meet thread, but here's some of the more top priority Merchandise.

Perfect Grade Strike Gundam
A Yoko Figurine
That Yoko Artbook I see posted on 4chan all the time
Gurren Lagann DVDs (Or Blu Ray)
A trip down artist's Alley

After the main hits, any cash leftover is fair game.

No swords, I think those are dumb (since you're not going around slashing people or training in the art).
Shirts (thought the last shirt I bought cost me $35...)
Messenger bags...for me or my brother
Small collectibles (these always end up either broken or lost...)
Gundam + Model Kit + Paints (an old hobby)
No DVDs or CDs (cause I think you can find them online for cheaper)

Weird stuff, things that people normally would not that buy.  Why? Cause I'm weird that way.

I'm not planning on buying any DVDs unless a dealer has an amazing deal because they are far cheaper online. However I do plan on buying lots of manga. Last year a few booths had a buy 3 get one free or a buy 4 get one free deal, so I'll be stocking up. I need Hellsing 1-8, Junjou Romantica 1-5 and a bunch of single volumes. Plus a friend of mine wants Ouran Highschool Host Club 1-8. I'm going to double check the online prices before I go however, because it might come out cheaper in the end. I'm hoping to get a yukata from the kimono booths and some new pins for my bags.

-Manga I haven't been buying for the past year
-Artbooks (You Higuri's Jewel in particular)
-Doujin
-POSSIBLY pokemon fire red (long shot, but maybe it might be in the swap meet? XD)
-shirts
-another messenger bag
-stuff from artist alley

I'm actually trying to buy a lot less than I have in the past three years, but I shall see. Manga usually is the thing that fills up my bag a tad too much.

I'll be looking for a Hellsing messenger bag for myself and a Rinoa (FF VIII) plushie for a friend of mine, but other than that I'll pretty much be shopping by the spur of the moment. If I like it and I can afford it, I will probably buy it, lol.

If I can find it, I'd like to buy Dear You, the Higurashi image album. .....yeah right ~_~

Chrono Cross OST would be nice maybe, if the price is right

Manga. Lots of manga. <3 swap meet. Still looking for that full set of Fushigi Yuugi! I also need more Prince of Tennis and would like to finish off Pita Ten if I can (am I a COMPLETE girl, or what?) We'll see what else catches my eye

Any figures I can find that don't cost too much but don't look like crap.

Let's see let's see...swords are too expensive...posters and wallscrolls are impractical (no place to put them)...maybe a plushie if I can find a cheap one.

I always try to pick up the latest BAAU Down, and at least one or two little somethings from the Artist Colony.

ANYTHING YURI!(!!)

If I have any money left after all that and I'm not starving to death, we'll see what happens XD

I try to stray away from buying DVDs and manga at the dealers room, simply because I can get the same items online for much cheaper. However, if it's something that I have been looking for online and haven't found it, well, of course I'm gonna buy it there.

But, this year I think I'm going to see if I can get several commissions from the artist alley. Particularly, I'm going to see if there is someone who would be willing to do a commission specifically for a half sleeve tattoo. XD

*SIGHS*

I remember the days when people would save up their money all year, specifically to buy anime and manga in the Dealer's Hall because that's where the best deals were.

Whatever happened to those days? I miss those days =(

Inflation.
Hell, greed too, I'm thinking. I've had dealers (that I've known for a few years, not saying any names) tell me personally that if I saw anything they had that I wanted, wait until he's back in the store or order it off the website. Reason being, many of the dealers mark up prices by between 2% - 10% for Fanime.

Greed definitely. There's one dealer (whom I won't name) that I've purchased from multiple times. They'll usually cut me a slight deal if I buy more than one item. Well, last year I went in.... Either Friday or Saturday night, saw they had four ufo catchers out of a set I'd been looking for for a LONG time. They had two out of the three I really wanted, the fifth from the set being the one they were missing. I asked if they had the missing one, and was told no, so I went ahead and purchased the other two at a slight discount.

Well, I go in the next morning to see the one I had inquired about hanging on their display. It could be that they didn't know they had it, but I REALLY have my doubts. I think they just didn't want to give me a good deal on it. -_-;

Generally speaking, some manga and anime.
But I doubt I'll be able to buy it since I'm spending way too much on shopping lately.

OMG!! I have not really thought of what I am planning to buy! This is my first time, so I honestly do not know what to expect. My friends, who have gone several times, say that the Dealer's Room has everything. I really love cute shirts with anime characters on them. Maybe some figurines or wall scrolls. I do not know what anime I am going to specifically buy because I do not exactly have a favorite one right now. My last favorite anime was Naruto-yes, I know, it is kind of overrated now.
All in all, I cannot wait to see what Fanime has to offer

That's another thing I'll be looking for is the Hellsing OVA DVDs, preferably dubbed since this is one of the rare cases where I like the dub more than the sub.
