Is the Hilton not going to offer its rate on the Thursday of the con?  (the 22nd)  Or did it sell out already?  I'm trying to figure out whether to go with them and just come in a day later or go for one of the alternatives and stay starting on Thursday...

Heyy, just got mine.  Thanks muchly!  It definitely gives the impression that you guys are always hard at work.

I'm only about a two-hour drive away from the con center itself and I got mine a few days later than everyone else, so it's possible they're going out in multiple shipments or something.  I wouldn't fret if you haven't gotten yours yet.  With the holiday coming up, it might be delayed a little further, too.

I spent about... I dunno, 20 minutes in line on Thursday night (near closing, so that's probably why) for pre-reg.  Wasn't so bad.  The guy who took care of getting my badge was prompt and friendly.  A nice change from last year.

Hilton stay.  10th Floor.

The service was awesome, the staff was friendly and accommodating, the room service was speedy.  The room was actually missing the footstool that goes with the lounge chair, but housekeeping called the room and informed me about it.  After a couple snafus with management I got it into the room for no fee.  Yay.

Unfortunately, I'm not as happy about the behavior of the con-goers (and anyone else who was at the hotel that weekend).  >_<  Like the folks on the 15th floor, occasionally the room would just REEK of cigarette smoke even though all the rooms near mine were non-smoking (and mine was as well).  I have a feeling someone was actually smoking in the hallway or near the elevator considering the smell originated from there.  It was disgusting and a health hazard to anyone with lung problems (got people with asthma in the family, I keep these things in mind).  Also, the behavior of some of the congoers on the last couple days wasn't so hot either.  Not much to be done about that I guess, but having people literally stampeding through the halls screaming and STREAKING as well...  Yeeeah.  It's not the con's or the hotel's responsibility to have people standing around supervising us (considering how many people hated being treated badly by the hotel staff at the Santa Clara con center especially) but it was just dreadful.

Otherwise stuff was just fine.  Didn't have too horrid a wait for elevators.

Registration / Group Registration Discount?
December 27, 2006, 10:49:06 PM
Dude... no group discounts... what's the point in registering in a group, then?  Convenience when picking them up...?  Although I just read in another thread that in at least one situation people couldn't have just the 'leader' go and pick up all of them...

Doesn't make a difference to me, seens to how I've never done a group registration and won't again this year, but... seems kinda odd.

Registration / I.D. Problems Last Year

I highly recommend the state ID too.  Obviously you don't need it yet since you're under-age, but eventually you'll need one for checking into the hotel rooms, too, when you're 18 or 17 or whatever their requirement is.

Hotel and Facilities / Did you reserve your room yet?
December 21, 2006, 11:47:35 PM
Quote from: "Moonblossom"If anyone's looking to book at the Hilton, I'd seriously recommend doing it right effing now. The King rooms are all full if you're staying till the 29th, and according to the woman I spoke to on the phone (who was very helpful) there's only a couple of doubles left. I'd been planning on a King, but I went for the double, rather than waiting and risking it.

O_O

Holy crap!  Not that I'd be staying until the 29th, but... damn! I'm glad I reserved my room a couple weeks ago... I never would have imagined them to fill up that quickly. @_@  Thanks for the heads-up... I didn't think we'd be getting those "Sold out!" alerts from Snorlax and co until like March/April again. XD

Hotel and Facilities / Did you reserve your room yet?

Quote from: "Zain"The video programming is still on the Marriott side, but we're going to have some of our biggest events on the Hilton side of the con this year. We're using the Hilton-side rooms a LOT more.

Uh-oh... I've said too much already

*squints* Using them a lot more... yet as far as I could tell last year there were plenty if not the majority of the rooms on the Hilton side in use... hmm... What could this mean...

I know what it means! Longer Starbucks lines! Noooo~!

Hotel and Facilities / 2007 Hotel Prices
December 03, 2006, 10:41:30 PM
Yeah, last year you could cancel them up to a couple weeks before the con itself with no fees.  There is a shut-off date where you either can't cancel or they charge you for it, but it's not until the very last minute.

Quote from: "Moonblossom"I'm still a broke unemployed shmuck so waiting a few more days isn't the end of the world for me, I wouldn't have been able to make my reservation yesterday anyway. Hehe.

If you make your reservation with a credit card, you don't have to pay until you actually check-in (or check-out, whichever it is) from the hotel in May.

Ahh, don't worry about it Mr Tony Sir.  Your hard work is appreciated. ;)  A couple more days won't kill anybody and the hotel info is great to know... My pocketbook is heaving a sigh of relief.. no, really...

Hotel and Facilities / Minors renting a room
November 30, 2006, 06:43:57 PM
Quote from: "Kegan_Flame"well, i can't say for sure what the rules are.. but last year i booked a room at the hilton under my name, i was 17 at the time, and i payed for it and everything, they never checked my ID or asked my name... granted i had a credit card.. so they probably thought i was.. but yeah

Yeah, actually, same here... they didn't check for an ID last year, and the last time I went when I was underage I went through all this trouble to get an official ID and they didn't check it then either.  Hm!  Still, if you want a sure bet, you'd be better off dragging an adult in than potentially getting turned away, that'd be a bummer.

Hotel and Facilities / 2007 Hotel Prices
November 29, 2006, 05:16:32 AM
Quote from: "Barnes"The prices MIGHT BE the following:

$85 a night for a King Bed in both The Mt and Hil.
$109-119 a night for two double at either.

This is according to a post that Craige made on the first page of this thread.

Oh, that'd be spectacular... but only if someone makes the hotels actually assign rooms based on the actual reservations.  I had a whole shenanigans with a bed switcheroo from what I reserved, which didn't matter to me, but someone else probably got a sour deal from it...  :?  Wouldn't be fair if that happened to other folks, say you reserve a room with a king bed and show up with 3-4 people and the guy puts you in a 2 double room instead... feh...

I can't speak for the Marriott- but for the Hilton, yes, you need an adult to check you in, but you don't need one to check you out.  The Hilton has one of those auto-checkout systems if you use a credit card where all you have to do is leave, you don't have to inform them or anything, so no checkout adult is required either.

Quote from: "Moonblossom"King rooms are generally intended for two people, possibly three if you ask for a rollaway. The beds may be big, but the rooms might not. If you're housing a group, for safety, legality, and security, you might want to consider a suite of some sort.

I seem to remember that last year part of the rate deal for getting a king-sized bed in a Hilton room was that you couldn't get a rollaway... I'm not entirely sure on this, though...

Quote from: "Moonblossom"Does anyone know if they charge for wireless access in the rooms? I know the Marriott is $9.95 a night! o.O

I don't recall the Hilton having wireless access in the rooms at all.  They have an ethernet port you can use (yes, you have to pay per night for it) but when I did a search for wireless networks from my room there weren't any.  There is the free wireless downstairs, though, a nice perk.

Hotel and Facilities / HELP PLEASE! Room questions
September 26, 2006, 09:28:45 PM
Ok, well, first off...  You know reservations probably won't get started for a long while yet, right?

Secondly, the Hilton has suites, but up to last year you could only reserve them by specially calling the hotel and asking what price they sell them at.  They're not even listed on the official Hilton site, seriously.  I don't know, but I doubt that there'll be a special Fanime rate for them this year, as from what I heard it sounds like the staff generally gets those rooms... or something.

The Mariott does have 'junior suites' or something to that effect that you can get at a special rate through the con.  I don't know how many people you can stuff into that, but it'd be better than a standard room.

If you wanted to do it legally, your best bet would be to get two (or three) rooms, and ask for them to be ajoining... But that'd be a bit pricey.

Here's a question.. to those of you who stayed at the Mariott... Did they not have extra blankets simply available in the room?  Or were you asking for extra beyond that?  The Hilton supplied extra, lots of extras, just in the closet.  Nice bonus.

I think it would be great if the con could arrange a screening next year of the winners of prior AMV contests at Fanime.  There's a ton of really incredible vids that have won at the contest, and seeing the little snippits of them at the Finals was so much fun!  Most can be downloaded (if not all) but it's not the same thing as seeing them on the bigscreen.  I know a few venues at the con were playing random vids, including some of the winners, but it'd be cool if we could get a centralized screening.

Ah, makes sense.

Anybody got a price quote on the suites at the hilton?
