I do have a question. Is it sold out for Thursday to Monday for the Hilton on double rooms? It is available for Friday to Monday, but not from Thursday. Thank you!

Hello:

Currently there are no available double/double rooms on Thursday night at the Hilton. All other nights are available. If you wish to reserve to arrive on Friday, your reservation can be waitlisted for a Thursday night arrival. If you reserve over the phone, a customer care representative can help you with this. If you reserve online, please email [email protected] to request to be placed on the waiting list after your reservation is made.

Thank you.

Wahoo, got myself a room at the Hilton.  :D

Still not thrilled about their new no-smoking policy, but my roomie said he doesn't mind going downstairs, and it's a small price to pay for the convenience.

When reserving online, does it charge the card right away or does it charge it when you arrive?

In my experience it only charges the card you guarantee with if you incur a penalty (like not showing up or canceling after the cut off date).

Same here. Most hotels, unless otherwise specified, will only charge you at the time of check-out. Unless it says something like "immediate payment required" which happens during sales sometimes, then the card is just to guarantee your room, not to pay right away.

When I posted my reservation, it said the Marriott has "comp internet"... Does that mean free wireless internet in the room? Just curious~ thanks

You might want to contact someone about that. All the documentation regarding the Marriott claims it's $12.95 a night, but I've seen a few people here mention they had free internet before.

Yes, they give you the "Wired-for-Business" package for free, which includes free internet, free local calls (handy for when your cellphone dies), and free long distance within the US (also handy for when your cellphone dies).

BTW, there's not many Friday-Tuesday rooms available at the Marriott and Hilton, but easily Thursday-Monday rooms available. Hello Day Zero!

Not in my experience.  It's still just used to gaurantee the room.  They will only charge the card if you incur a penalty (like not showing up or cancelling after the cut off date).  I used my VISA Debit to reserve 2 rooms thru fanime housing yesterday and there was no charge.  You should be fine.

I got Marriott Thursday-Sunday night.  I always stay Monday night and check out on Tuesday morning, but it shows that Monday night is not available.  I'll just assume that it will become available later.  It's usually a ghost town on Monday night and I can't imagine that the hotel is sold out for Monday night.

I want to know this too. When I check Marriott's site (http://www.sanjosemarriott.com/ (http://www.sanjosemarriott.com/)). I don't see suite's available on there either. I called the hotel directly before Fanime Housing for 2010 was available to inquire about the suites, they told me you have to book them over the phone.

It'd be cool if we can book through Fanime's housing bureau, and maybe get it discounted?  ;)

Hello - No, your credit card is not charged when you make your reservation. The hotel has the option to charge a deposit of one night's room and tax approximately one week before your arrival date. They typically do not do this though. When you check in using a credit card, they swipe the card to obtain an authorization. This means that if you are using a debit card, funds will actually be frozen/unavailable for the time being. If you use a credit card, there will simply be an authorization on your account. You settle your bill by cash or credit card when you check out.

Sometimes I am at a loss why Fanime even has a web page... it is never updated in a timely matter (this is not just about housing but in general and has been this way for several years). I have been checking the housing link for weeks now and even checked it earlier today and it still points to last years housing page.  You even have a twitter account which I am subscribed to. Nothing.

Luckily I stopped by the forums tonight and saw the topic.

And on the topic of Thursday check ins and Tuesday check outs, I have done this for at least the last 4 year at the Marriott, and yet every year I have to email housing to special request it. Usually I can get a Fri to Tues or a Thurs to Mon on the reservation system at least, but this time I couldn't get either. I don't know why this is so hard to get. I know I am not the only one who does this. And I know the hotel wants my money.

Ok I am now off to email housing so I can see if I can get the days I want.

*Sighs* I missed being able to get the dates for the Hilton and Saint Clair's. ._. Wasn't even aware that the dates were open five days ago. Anyway got the Fairmont; is it really an evil walk like some people are saying? I'm reading anywhere from 3-10 mins. I don't mind the 3-5 mins walk (even 10 mins is fine and probably not all that troublesome; but yeah.. just how some people make it seem). And it is one block away? I saw someone say it was 2 blocks? o_o

Foxberry - it's really not a bad walk at all. I'm mildly disabled and I can't walk long distances, but I regularly passed by the Fairmont while exploring the area looking for food. Unless you have a really big, heavy, elaborate cosplay, it shouldn't be more than five minutes.

I have a small question/concern after reading other board members posts and the time stamps on them.
I just recently reserved my rooms, but it went through with flying colors. I have two confirmations for rooms at the Hilton for Thursday check-in~Monday checkout.
So in the chance of looking like a complete idiot, did I miss something...? Or were rooms added?

No, there were rooms available, but often they fill up extremely fast. There is a possibility of more rooms being released but that is contingent on a number of issues, but the safest thing is to reserve now.

We have a single bed at the Hilton for Friday to Monday. We're relatively local so the hotel is more for convenience/cosplay's sake than anything else.  And a fridge, because I'm not so cool as to be able to subsist on ramen and restaraunt food (though the latter will likely creep it's ugly way into my diet that weekend just out of sheer laziness XD ).

The bummer I'm seeing is parking...we're likely going to have two cars for convenience reasons, and that rate's a little steep..

I have 2 questions.  :P

1. Does anyone know how much the Junior Suites will be costing if we request one?
2. Where is the best place to park if you are rooming at the Marriott? (I know they only do valet parking but, I want to know if there are other places to park with/without pay, valet is a last resort)

I thought about checking out the rooms at the Fairmont.  Some of my friends stayed there in '08 and '09, and the rooms are fantastic.  I have the chance.  I booked at the Fairmont because Monday night was unavailable at the Marriott T__T  I keep checking the hotel website just in case ^__^

Park inside convention center garage and on the Marriott side.  You and your roomies can bring your luggages from you car to the Marriott.  The walk is short.  IIFC, I paid $12 per night.

Awesome thanks. :D First time staying in the Marriott and was unaware that they had their own garage too. (Only stayed on the Hilton side) I've booked a double/double room for Friday-Mon. When I looked, it was unavailable for Monday like you said but, is that only for the night? I chose it as my departing day. Just a tad bit confused since it let me choose it.  ???

2. Where is the best place to park if you are rooming at the Marriott? (I know they only do valet parking but, I want to know if there are other places to park with/without pay, valet is a last resort)

Last year, I stayed at the Marriot and used their garage. The regular rate was $25, however, for convention goers the price was halved. So I paid $12.50 per night. It was nice since the valet unpacked the car and sent everything up to our room for us quite quickly.

I got a question about the Hilton. You know how they have mini-fridges? I was wondering if you have to request for them or are they already provided, since I didn't see a fridge request option when I booked last night.

I believe each room has a mini fridge already. That's been the case every time I've stayed at the Hilton. No need to request one. Should call the hotel to make sure though.

Does the Marriott rooms all have fridges as well? I can't remember seeing that included anywhere.

I think you have to request for the mini-fridge for the Marriott. However, all the rooms at the Hilton have them since I stayed there for three years straight.

I have 2 questions.  :P

1. Does anyone know how much the Junior Suites will be costing if we request one?
2. Where is the best place to park if you are rooming at the Marriott? (I know they only do valet parking but, I want to know if there are other places to park with/without pay, valet is a last resort)

Hello - Junior suites at the Marriott are $154.00 plus tax, per night. They have a king bed and a pull out sofa bed. They are basically the size of 1.5 standard rooms. To request a Junior Suite, please email [email protected].

Thank you,
FanimeCon Housing

Just a follow up. I emailed Housing and requested Thursday and Monday night at the Marriott and they let me know that I was on the waiting list. Now, just 2 days after that, I have the nights I wanted. So a big thank you to Housing for their prompt response and quick resolution.

@KyraEnsui: Thanks.  :)
@jdawson: Wow, a bit pricey huh? Thank you though for the info.  ;) I already booked a double/double for 122 a night but, was very curious with the Junior suites since I heard a lot of people are requesting them. Maybe I'll book one next year.  8)

Nope. They require a credit card to guarantee the room, but it does not actually charge the card until you're at the hotel.

This question was answered on the first page of the thread, by the way. ;P

Me too. ^_^ I wanted to stay at the Hilton but, they only had king bed rooms left when I checked at the time. So I decided to go with Marriott. Haha Sainte Claire is almost sold out too.  :o

It seems like things sold out even faster than normal this year. I am really glad I didn't wait, even though I'm still not 100% positive I'll be able to make it. I'll know by March, so it's possible a king room at the Hilton may open up around that time XD

:D Yeah, I'm sure that some people will cancel their reservations so that way some rooms are going to be available when Fanime starts getting much closer. xD *hopes a double/double at hilton will be available* << I really doubt that though haha.  ;D

Did you email to Fanime Housing to be on the waitlist? That's what I did and got the double/double rooms at the Hilton.

Cheaper than what the hotels itself are cost so this is a great discount. You can find it cheaper if you search around, but not close to convention though.

Booking the Hilton straight through their reservations service, it's $189 a night for a king bedded room during the same period. This is less than half price, that's not expensive at all!

Not expensive at all actually. I'm getting my king bed for $88/night. That's really friggin' cheap imo.

Agreed, they used to be more expensive a few years ago.  And if you share the room and split the cost with 1-2 people, it really brings it down even more.

if you didnt get this Fanime Discounts that theyve worked hard and negotiated their butts off you'd be paying upwards of 150~$200/night and thats just a basic room.

*shakes head*  poor kids. then again anything close to $100 price tag is "expensive" so i suppose its all relative.

Stuff in life is expensive. So Save up properly!  ;)

Gah, THIS.  So much.

Though depending on what cons one is used to, I can see thinking the Fanime hotels expensive (I don't, but I'm used to thinking in terms of California hotel rates).  I remember looking at the rates for NDK and being shocked at how cheap they were -- though I think they're roughly on par with Fanime's this year.

Really, you want 'expensive' hotels, look at AX.  Fanime's are more than reasonable, especially given the timing and location.

The room rates are very reasonable and fair, and I'm very glad I booked early because the San Jose Hilton is now booked solid.  Dang, I knew it would go fast but that's crazy! Anyhoo, question - I got my confirmation back from the Fanime Housing but the hotel itself has not directly contacted me yet about my reservation - should I be concerned or is this the norm?  Sorry if this is a newb question, my first Fanime and my first time booking a room this way.

That's totally normal. The hotel hasn't got your individual booking info yet, they usually transfer it all from the Fanime housing to the hotels much closer to the con. In past years, I never even got direct confirmation from the Hilton, only the CMR Housing group.

If you want suicide Hotel Rates AX is nothing.  Try the Convention Hotels of the San Diego Comic Con.  Once you look at this you might as well jump into a rapid waterfall because they love to wash away your monies.  Have a look at this.

Not to mention only ONE HOTEL is open for AX ever since THEY STARTED TO TAKE RESERVATIONS.
In contrast, when Fanime opened up their hotels all of them were available from the start.
