I just received my 4x6 prints from winkflash.com and they look okay to me.

Hey guys! Reviving this thread bc it r cool.

Someone mentioned that they sell 4x6 prints for $1... Is that the average cost for 4x6s at the AA? ? @____@ It seems kinda low. I want to print mine at Office Max because I can have quick proofs there, and they charge 66 cents each :x

I'm hesitant to order online because I'd like to have proofs. However, I don't think I'll have a choice if 4x6s are $1. Do you guys have any suggestions for how I should prepare my files for print? Do they normally print lighter or darker, or is there no pattern?

I don't know if this was already answered-if I am repeating myself tell me and I'll delete my post

Yeah-the $1 for 4x6 prints are REALLY cheap-usually they go for $3-5
I usually saw them sold as $4 though
If you are printing on glossy paper I woudl recommend making it a tad lighter beucase glossy paper makes everything darker XP
for everything else i dunno

I just got my order from winkflash.com and they look okay to me. They're only 8 cents each and that's why I can get away with selling them at $1 each. Honestly, $4-5 seems too much for me; I sell my letter size prints for $5 so seeing someone sell their 4x6 for $5 is kinda crazy. Then again, it depends where you get your supplies from.

Do you get your things printed online or printed at a local store?
I want to know a place where to print things for cheap but its hard to find one.
Man you have a lot of prints O__O
I need to hurry up and make some!

Also do you know a good place to print buttons? I can only find 100 buttons for 100 dollars and that is too expensive for me D:

For my 8.5x11 and 11x17 prints I go here! http://www.catprint.com/
I order my 4x6 and 5x7 prints here - http://winkflash.com (suuuuper cheap)
And I get my 6x9 prints at http://adoramapix.com

I don't know of a place that will make buttons for you, sorry! :C I have my own button maker. I highly recommend you invest in one, though! It pays off in the end. C:

Is there a reason you buy from so many different places? Is it just because each one is the cheapest where you get it? And you said Winkflash (right? I think it was Winkflash) was hit and miss. Do you think their prices are worth hit and miss, or...?

I was thinking of doing all mine from CatPrint; that way I'd have them all the same quality and similar look, but I'd like to know if it would be a better move to purchase from multiple places, instead?

I get my smaller prints from Winkflash just because it's a little bit cheaper than getting them from catprint. The 4x6 prints are 8 cents each (6 cents when they have a sale) and the 5x7 prints are 25 cents each. I can get up to 120 4x6 prints for only $10+$5 shipping, so it's more convenient for me. I checked on catprint how much it would cost me to print the same amount and it came up to $20. I think their prices are definitely worth the hit and miss, to be honest. The colours of the prints won't match the exact colours of the pic on your monitor (light colours get a little darker and vice versa) so the best thing to do is to lighten your pics just a smidgen so they don't come out too dark.

However, it's all up to you! If you want, you can get 50 free 4x6 prints from winkflash by signing up. I think it's only good for your fist order, though. The coupon code is 50FREE. If the prints aren't exactly what you wanted, then you should get everything at catprint if you want everything to be of the same quality. :)

Thread revival!

I thought it would be a good idea to show you guys the quality of my prints. I recently started ordering my prints from Catprint.com and they're really good and high quality. Plus, they're really afordable. I was super surprised at how good they came out. The following pictures don't do the prints much justice because I have a pretty crappy camera, but I hope it's still noticeable.

I think I picked "Heavy Card Stock Glossy" for my prints. They're not super glossy, like photo paper, but it's much nicer and has shiny, almost matte feel to it.

My keychains are always laminated; I've never tried anything else so I can't really help you too much with that. However, I can help you find good cellphone lariats! etsy.com is the best place to buy them: http://tinyurl.com/88bnxqm

This will be my first time selling at Fanime, but I sold at AX last year! I only bought around 250 business cards and I still have a bit leftover. I think 250 is a pretty good number if it's your first time.

Lookin' for 2 roommates! We're already full!

+ Introduction: My name is Karen and you can't find me on facebook since I don't even use it that much, haha. However, I'm always available through email. This will be my first year at Fanime, but I'm not new to cons by any means. I'm going to sell at the Artist Alley with a friend of mine. :>
+ Hotel Information: We are staying at the Marriott, Thursday-Sunday. The room has a king sized bed and one extra roll-away bed. The room is non-smoking.
+ Costs: The total for the room comes up to about $557. PM me if you have concerns about the costs. (You won't have to pay over $100, though!)
+ Requirements: I'd prefer it if you're a girl AND you're an artist selling at the alley. I understand that it's really hard to pay for the AA table, supplies, badge, hotel, etc. so artists get first priority.
+ Contact: PM me or you can send me an email at anakgranados(at)gmail(.)com (Or, if you have a deviantart, you can leave me a note there, too. cherryblossomcolor.deviantart.com!
+ Miscellaneous: We'd prefer if you're over the age of 18 to room with us. Also, if you're over 21 and you go out to have a drink, we'd really prefer if you don't come back into the room drunk and whatnot! I'm a pretty laid-back person but I hope you don't do anything stupid that can get us kicked out of the hotel.

Have a reservation for the Hilton, but for Friday to Monday, and I am waitlisted for Thursday. We shall see how this rolls out.

Anybody notice that the site -technically- opened before 12 noon, by the way? Like..about 11:55?

I did.

Yup, I noticed this, too.

FYI, Hilton and Marriot are already GONE. What makes me more upset is that I had my Hilton room, hit submit, and it couldn't process through. I now lost the room, I guess!

Same thing happened to me, too! I was lucky enough to get a room at the Marriott after I realized what was going on but I reaaaaaaaally wanted a room at the Hilton. Oh, well! I should be content with what I was able to go. :>

Will there be a wait list for Thursday, May 24th for the Hilton? It looks like that one is already sold out before the launch. If there is, I would like to be on it please. Thank you!

I was hoping to get a room at the Hilton but they sold out already! I thought I saw it on the list but when I checked again, it wasn't listed anymore. :O I really wanted a room at the Hilton, too. :C I managed to get a king bedded room w/ rollaway bed at the Marriott, though, but still.

Last time I got 8x10 photos printed at Costco (wasn't for AA, it was a different project) they printed a whole string of numbers, the file name, and the Costco cardholder's name on the back of the print. Won't that kind of be a problem and unsightly?

I don't think people care about that, to be honest. :> There might be a few people who are suuuuuuper picky about that kind of stuff but I've only come across one person who didn't want to buy a 4x6 print from me because I printed them at Walgreens. Eh, whatever! As long as the front of the print is okay, it's all good, I think!

Question:

Is there a way to get a sample print from Catprint or other online places? I'm afraid the colors i see on my monitor will not match with their color settings :(

Also I have a costo near me and they sell very cheap prints, are people hesitant to buy prints in costco quality or something? Is there a reason i should not use them?

Catprint offers samples, I think. They have an assistance number and you can ask them about samples and stuff: 1-877-228-7768 :> As for AdoramaPix, you can have them to colour correct your prints if you want. I like them a lot because my prints always, always come out really nice and the colours match my monitor's display perfectly. It's too bad they're so expensive. Winkflash is kind of a hit and miss. Their colour correction doesn't always match up; darks come out way too dark and so do light colours. I usually tweak my images before I send them off to print there.

A friend of mine uses Costco to print her posters and she really likes it. As long as you're not printing on really cheap card stock or printer paper, people will buy prints.

Cool! I sent an email a few minutes ago; hope I can still snag a table. It sounds like a really nice, small con. C:

Oh, man. I have a six hour class on friday and I might not be able to book at noon. Just wondering, how fast do the Hilton or Marriott sell out within the first hours or so? I hope they don't sell out as fast as the artist alley tables did. :C
I don't actually have that detailed stats, but I will hope that everyone that wants a Hilton room gets one (this might be impossible).

It's okay, no worries! For some reason I thought the 6th was on Friday but it's Monday, haha. I don't have noon classes on Monday so I can safely book a room without worry. C: Thank you, though!

I recently started selling at artist alleys! C: it took a bit of trial and error but I finally figured out how to price my stuff.

For prints, I have around 4-5 different sizes.
4x6 = $1 each (super cheap to print and people really like them, I've noticed!)
5x7 = $2 each or 3 for $5
6x9 = $4 each
8.5x11 = $5 each, 3 for $12
11x17 = $13 each, 2 for $20

I price keychains (the laminated ones) $2 each, 3 for $5, 5 for $7.50 so on and so on. I price pinback buttons the same if they have an illustration, instead of text. :> As for polymer clay/acrylic keychains, it depends. I know some people sell polymer clay keychains depending on how long it took to make them. I only make little sushi keychains and I price those at $4 each because they're easy to make! It depends, really!

I've never done on the spot commissions but a friend of mine charges based on the following:bust only, waist up, full body, whether it's pencil only, inked, coloured in, etc. I'd go with what you feel is more comfortable for you.

I hope this helps!

If that's the message you got...

wow.

That really does mean over 300 tables got snagged within the first 15 minutes...
What horrible luck I have. 10th on the wait-list.

Hey, Ash! It's Karen!

You shouldn't be too worried about this! Keep your head up, girl. You got a good spot on the wait-list and the other people who signed-up earlier don't know if they're approved to be in the alley yet. Good luck and I hope you get a table! :D

I was just going to ask this, too! I plan on selling at the artist alley and a lot of people want plastic bags/covers to put their prints and other merchandise in them. :< Guess I have to find a new website where I can get recyclable paper bags.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Carpooling thread
January 20, 2012, 11:03:47 AM
Does anyone from the Sacramento area need a ride? I'm taking my car with two friends of mine!

Now, everything isn't set in stone yet because the only reason we're going to Fanime is the artist alley. If we don't get a table at the alley, the chances of me going to Fanime are zero. If I do get a table/hotel, then I'm definitely going, so please keep this in mind. I'm letting you know ahead of time just to be safe! We're going to leave Sacramento on May 24th at around 10-12PM and we're leaving on the 28th at around 5-6PM. Make sure you have a place/hotel to stay in because I'd feel really bad if I just dropped you off at the convention center without a place to stay. (Carpooling with us isn't a guarantee that you will be sharing a hotel room with us.)

If you're interested in carpooling with us, let me know via PM. All we ask is that you be over 16+ years of age and you have your parents'/guardian's permission to ride with us if you are underage. Also, a contribution of $10-12 for gas is all I need! If you're underage and your parents/guardians want to meet us before the convention starts, it's totally understandable. (We're not creepers, we swear! We're just three 21 year-old art students!)

That's it!
