Oh yeesh. I look awful...

>_<

Video hates me. I hereby decree that I'm not allowed to open my mouth for camera or video (even Kwoon) ever again....

Still awesomeness and honor, more or less, to be in this year's video.

Back on-topic:

I conceptually loved Stage Zero. It seems to be the beginning of a really great and unique and, most importantly, fan-centric trend for Fanime. Its execution was shaky, but only because, quite honestly, it was an extremely experimental process. From the watcher and passerby's perspective I'd say it was a smashing success and I look forward to what new and exciting things the minds that created it can produce.

You forgot Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl!!!  One my favorite animes!

"This is... Gendo.  All female *Yuri volunteers" report to my office for breast inspection.  Oh baby."

Uber points for the Sokodei reference.

More uber points for referencing Kashimashi. I really, really loved that show. :p

Neet, Taijiya.

For the record, this is why I'm a lit major. I much prefer studying books and writers to studying people. x.x

I'm fairly certain that's not the only reason, but yeah. That's pretty irrelevant. It's still more likely to be celebrated here than in Russia :p

Well in the form of anthropological and scientific thought you do not need to make it unopposable. That's impossible. You need to make it supportable. Take surveys outside of a con as to who has heard of, who watches Anime, who has interests in outside cultures (and small interviews as to where, if anywhere, they gained those interests).

Exactly why I usually prefer the term 'Mosaic' to 'Melting Pot.'

The AV stuff is actually pretty easy to run. If you're willing to put the work in (and I'm not. I'm a Yaoi-beast through and through) then you should really talk to the video heads, or at least make the suggestion to them. I guess you kinda have but perhaps more brainstorming is in order.

It's worthy of note that explicit Yuri, like explicit Yaoi, would need ID checks at the door.

An interesting and fascinating thought-process, that.

It begs the greater question if the uniqueness of American culture stems directly from its propensity for analyzing and taking parts of other cultures and melding them into itself.

Indeedy. I always tend to keep an eye out for items that can be directly improved anyway. Cosplay, as always, has been a directly fulfilling event (despite my worries, which are never to be mentioned again, EVER! >_<), and, as always, has miles to go up if only for the virtue that there are comptetent and dedicated people making sure that it continues to do so.

That pic looks amazing, Misfits_Cure. I saw you around con. I think it would have been great to get all of the Seras' who had their guns (I saw one Yellow, one Blue, one Red) in a single picture a la Smash Brothers Pallete swap.

(11th Fanime, but it still feels as good as my first year. :D)

Duly noted and supported!

Yeesh. Running masquerade has been like trying to pilot a submarine, it seems.

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. THat's a bit extreme....

Moronic Management? Do you have any idea how hard they work to get it done? I highly reccomend that you attend a staff meeting to see how hard these folks work just to make sure that you, as ungrateful as you are, have a good con. There were several members of that 'Moronic upper management' who sacrificed their entire cons just so they could make an attempt at giving about ten-thousand folks a good con so maybe you should think before you throw such a weighty insult around. It's moronic.

On Kublacon: Fanime's been around for much, much longer. The cons even moved to Memorial Day on the same year, so there's really no reason or case for that. Baycon was talked about at the Fanime when the move was made. It comes down to making a choice.

On places to sleep: Did you notice those two enormous buildings right next to the convention center? Those are called 'Hotels' and you can 'rent' 'rooms.' at them. They also have beds and, get this, showers (since I assume with your forgoing of sleep that you forwent washing yourself in anything but a bathroom sink)

On music: There was Anime music playing 24 hours a day in the convention center. It was just very quiet.

The first tactic to an entertaining skit is the easiest one: Cater to the skills of your group. If you're people who are all experienced stage combat people, see if you can -SAFELY- conduct an onstage skit with stagefighting. If you have a knack for comedy, then write a comedy skit, etc.

The second tip is one I cannot stress enough: PRACTICE. For this purpose I'd personally reccomend having group members with at least two things in common:
1: (Less important) Interest in Anime. If you have one Shoujou-Ai fan in a big group full of Yaoi fans something's bound to go wrong. If you have one Naruto fan with a bunch of Eva purists, you'd better have a few people in between to hold back the flood gates.
2: Geography. Make sure your group can hopefully get to practice before con. This means that having team members who live in Georgia (USA) and team members who live in Georgia (Russia) is a bad idea.

Third: Surprise the audience. Give them something they haven't seen before. If you give them something they HAVE seen before, then make it in such a new interesting way that they'll think they haven't.

Fourth: This one is pretty important and for many, many reasons. Decide what your group is going to do democratically. Unhappy team members perform worse. It's that simple. When all of your team members can be satisfied with what you're going up on stage to do then all of your team members are going to do a better job at it.

Fifth and Final: Whatever you do, at any cost, have fun.

Again... it's not discrimination. The reason why we have Yaoi live programming and rooms and not Yuri live programming and rooms is because people have not stepped forward with the staffing, planning capability, sponsorship, and general knowhow to run said rooms.

If you have all of those, then what are you waiting for? E-mail Jason and get the show on the road!

Eh... the opinion really still stands. As I said, I see the merit in not doing it like that anymore. It's just a little sad to see it go. No matter what, it's a little less fun for those who -don't- win.

I guess that I always felt that the spontenaity was worth that :p

If I can make one small suggestion, though it's logistically harder.  It was something many of us on the side there talked about after the show. I can actually see how, with 60 or so groups, it'd be much harder to do. In the past, all of the groups on the side have been brought up on stage for the audience's viewing pleasure for the announcement of the award winners. If that's possible, again, I personally thought that it added a sort of nifty amount of game-show surprise to the whole thing (and spontaneous moments, like one of my team-members kissing Brian quite passionately and another kissing me. Yay for Masquerade yaoi... o_O). I don't really think it'll be entirely practical to do with the number of groups we now have. It is, after all, not a huge stage, but perhaps ways to preserve that spontaneity should be brainstormed, or something. It was a little weird to see the groups picked out of the crowd beforehand.

Just a random thought. :p

I'm pretty happy!

I just always look for ways to improve, anyway :p
