Fanime was okay

The problems:
Lines
Guests
Video Screenings

Lines: I am not going to blame fanime for what happened on Day 0 because of the server crash and blackout but for goodness sake develop a backup plan to registrate people manually should that ever happen again!! And also get more volunteers and registration booths to make the lines go faster!!

Guests: Again for the third time in three years I have to point out the problems with guests. I was talking to a group of people in the dealer's hall and we were all pondering why a con like Sac-Anime can get guests such Jennifer Hale, Tara Strong etc but not Fanime!? What's the point of having a guest suggestion thread on the forum when almost nobody we request ever gets invited to fanime!? Some say fanime doesn't care or doesn't even try and I refuse to believe that. I think Freeden here said it best; guests aren't the only reason I go to cons, but they are a huge part of my experience and with the increasing number of people who now go to Fanime, I expected a higher level of the con, and I just didn't see that. My sentiments exactly!

Video screening room: Some of the staff didn't even know how to use a dvd player which I find frustrating.

How about holding another charity auction in which the money would go into funding for more guests or different events in the future?

I'm not gonna comment on the lack of schedules again but I am gonna emphasize more on the long lines you guys really need to find more volunteers to keep the lines moving faster (especially on pre-reg pick-up night) as well as more laptop computers. Some more guests (especially japanese guests) would be nice too but getting ahead of myself.

Is it possible for fanime to hold a casino night?

I do not want to see any US dub guests.  If I had a choice between a Japanese guest and a US guest, I'd want the Japanese guest, even if they've already been to Fanime in the past.  I'd rather have Mamoru Yokota again than, say, Vic Mignogna.  And, I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

You're right cutiebunny you're not the only one who feels that way. But if fanime ever do get US guests, then I want those who have either never been to or rarely ever go to conventions. Nothing against guests who regularly go to cons.

I'll just throw it out there.

Zac Bertschy and Justin Sevakis

They even said in their podcast that they won't go to other conventions outside of L.A unless they are either invited or if their boss pays for their travels.

We do reach out to domestic guests. We talked to quite a few this year. That's about as much as I will say, though. The Hows and Whys of guest relations are very sensitive and very complicated.

In that case then I would also like it if the veteran voice actress Jennifer Hale could be invited next year to Fanimecon as well as Helena Taylor the VA who did Bayonetta.

Ok, I'm confused about something. The weekend before FanimeCon was Big Wow Comic Fest. Vic Mignogna was one of the guests in attendance. He said that Fanime had asked him to attend, but he had a prior commitment to a con in Phoenix. However, he DID say he would be attending Fanime 2012. AWESOME.

Here's the problem.

When I was attending one of Seiji Mizushima's autograph sessions (Sunday I believe) I asked one of the Staff about that, and he said that Fanime usually DOES NOT reach out to domestic (English) Voice Actors as guests and is more international guest oriented. Also, he said that Vic Mignogna would have to ask Fanime to attend as a guest.

So...does this mean that some information has been mixed up? Is Vic Mignogna NOT attending in 2012, or is this guy just talking about stuff he doesn't know about?
I'm pretty sure that (not just fanime but,) every convention's guest committee has to be the one to invite a voice actor, director, etc in order for them to be a guest in their con. Also I would not be surprised if Vic did asked to be a guest at Fanime since I've heard at one point he invited himself to Anime North 2010 which I also heard made the staff there uneasy. Don't know if its true or not.

Midnight Madness: This is was my biggest gripe of the whole con! I was planning and hoping that I would get to see True Naruto Style the movie but instead we had a two hour video screening of fake trailers and whats worst is there was no schedule on what was going to be playing! I also complained about this last year when nobody told us that the Berserk parody was three hours long and whats worst was that it was already available on youtube where as True Naruto Style is not played anywhere but at cons! I know the event lasts all night long but my point is that there are people who have no plans on actually staying up all night especially if they have plans early the next day! Please improve this by actually showing showtimes schedules for midnight madness in advance.

I'm going to interject here as I have some slight insight on this. This was the last year for the guy that puts together Midnight Madness, who goes by the name Jerry C. He's a close friend who I visit and work with often. Honestly, he thought a great way to end it all would be with a compilation of the best of the previous years Midnight Madness showings. I'm not sure as to why TNS wasn't shown (might have been too long, might have been a favoring for the shorter trailers or he may just have never shown it at MM). However, TNS is on Youtube if you'd still like to see it.
My gripe was not the compilation trailers but the fact that there was no knowledge of how long it would take and what was going to be played after the compilation trailers which is why I suggest having a showtime schedule to whoever will be in charge of midnight madness next year. And no TNS the movie is not on youtube unless you can show me a link.

Schedules: I"m not really going to into much detail about this since I'm sure the staff at fanime is aware of this but.. please bring back the pocket guides! or if you really want to save time and effort, make a bulletin on the website saying there are no pocket guides available and that you must print out your own schedule.

Midnight Madness: This is was my biggest gripe of the whole con! Video Screenings: Need to work more on screenings. My friend was actually hoping that to watch the break blade movies only to find out that it was going to be played really late at night which seriously dissappointed him. Might want to decide what could be worth showing during the day or late afternoon. "The best of series" such as AVGN was not the best of but a marathon from the earliest works to the lastest which essentially means that it was never a best of series to begin with. I was also surprised that there was no screening for the Gundam 00 movie considering how the director was there and all. My friend was also looking foward on seeing that as well.

Guests: I really don't have much to say because I was actually quite satisfied with this year's guest but there is always room for improvement isn't there? The only problem I had was that most of the guest were not requested from the forum so it really puzzles me at times on how fanime acquires guests and that if having a guest suggestion thread is really worth having on the forums since I sometimes feel that staff is just ignoring fans and just doing there own thing. But staff has already informed that they are listening so I'm not going to elaborate more on the matter.

Gaming room: My only pet peeve was What happened to the melty blood arcade machine!?

Those are my suggestions.

I'm going on day 0 to get my (and my brother's) badges and go to the swap meet if there is one on that day.

With Reuben cancelling this will be the first anime convention I've ever been to with ZERO voice actors. That is of course, unless others are planned.

That would be very unfortunate if there were no voice actor guests this year especially how many people (not just me) have been requesting for months now. I certainly hope that's not the case.
#18
um... I don't mean to sound rude and all but... is the guest list already finalized!? I certainly hope not because I've been anxious of the guests fanimecon will invite but I can understand especially what has happened in Japan over the past month.

Might as well throw this in even though its probably too late for this year.
