General Anime Chat / Re: Anime Vs. America
January 20, 2011, 11:02:51 PM
Oh its all about me. I will save myself first!

Then my family, boyfriend, friends...

Of course between anime and america in general I will pick america. I mean, I love anime, but come on!
America is my home, my traditions, my life! I am never giving that up for some silly videos. And I hope
none of would choose anime first either!

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Late Night Mystery Event

I will absolutely support this! And I would love to be an NPC as well. Would NPC's be just any cosplayers? I am going this year as Horo from Spice and Wolf. Maybe each NPC would have like a riddle that helps the teams? Although I suppose it would be easier if they just gave some sort of clue, like "Hmmm, it sure was strange. Last night I saw Colonel Mustard in the Library....with a candlestick...." Of course not that obvious!
Also would this be a MURDER mystery? That would be extra awesome. One cosplayer could be "murdered" and so the teams are trying to figure out whodunit? And then it can be uncovered how every suspect has a reason to commit the murder, and the clues begin to reveal who it really was?
One more thing. How late do you want to make this? Like when there is nothing really going on? Like around 10pm and later? If so, then one night only would definitely be better because some people might get tuckered out! Lol!

I have never heard of such a thing at Fanime, and I have been there 4 other times. This would be interesting though, and might really draw a crowd if it turns out to be fun. But how would it work exactly, what are you imagining?
Would it be like making up the lines? Would it be like watching a video and saying the lines that are printed out? In Japanese maid cafes, there is a game like that, and the customer can act with the maids. I got a video of it when I went to Japan, maybe it will give you some ideas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sH7NHxohMyE

every year i go it seems to get more and more crowded! Watch out for strangers trying to hug you. it gets stinky everywhere. there are some christian protesters every year, and i am not sure why, but its nothing that big even though everyone talks about it. artists alley is AWESOME! you can buy original works of art and even get a picture drawn of almost anything! (Last year I paid to get a sketch of House coming out of the depths of hell and stepping on small children!) but of course you dont have to get something so terrifying and violent.
other exciting things: a billion cosplayers who love to get their pics taken (ask first of course!), a huge room of stuff to buy, a huge room of video games, bunches of rooms that play anime and movies 24/7, panels on interesting and fun topics, Dances!
AND best of all...PEOPLE! And so many of them are friendly! Have a good time!

PS. dont just eat candy, soda, and cup-a-noodles!

We should do a $5 buy in! OR people could bring some of their favorite mangas and though would be what we play for.

I dont think the $5 buy in would work either, but the manga idea sounds like fun! Pocky gets a little boring you know? I can only eat so much! And of course I am down to play!

This does sound awesome! I think alot of people would be down for this. Every year I see plenty of people in the stage zero area just playing board games, they might as well play a mystery game! I am down!

I am excited to see this, as a friend and I are both planning to cosplay as x-men characters and thought it would be fun to get a group going. Even though fanime is mostly for anime, I think comics are also appropriate! I am going as Snowbird, and my friend Liz is going as Marvel girl. We are also going in these costumes to Wondercon. This should be fun!

I have to see this! I thought a Ouran Host Club would be a great idea, and I am so happy that there is a gathering! How did I miss this last year!?

I went to the 2010 gathering and had a blast! Will totally show up this year too, as Misty. And my friend Liz will be going as Togepi. We are both looking forward to it! Can't wait!

I wish there would be a Hey Arnold Anime, or even just a continuation, like them in High School. How awesome would that be?

I am going with a friend, and we are taking BART to get there. There are not that many panels, and I don't know the special guests, so we just take a look at all the booths. And boy there are a lot! If you check out the exhibitors list, you know what I mean. And I am excited that there are even more people this year! But Jerry,or anyone else for that matter, it would be cool to meet up because more is merrier! (usually, lol!) It's just something to do!

Meetings, Gatherings, and Get Togethers / Apecon Anyone?
September 27, 2010, 08:14:49 PM
Apecon, or Alternate Press Convention, is not exactly anime, but there's great art and comics! It is like one giant artist's alley! It is in San Francisco on October 16 and 17 and I was wondering if anyone on the board was going? Maybe we can have a meet up there? I will most likely be there on October 16th. Also, the website is right here: http://www.comic-con.org/ape/

I personally considered buying a cosplay several times, but in the end decided against it just because I don't want something that isn't very accurate or doesn't fit right. I pick costumes that I know won't be that hard to make, but I also limit myself to just one costume a year, so even though my sewing skills are not so great, I have plenty of time to practice! Also, I enjoy getting creative with what I can do. Like last year I was looking everywhere for the red/orange shoes Misty wears, and finally I decided to buy keds and just paint them! Not only did that save me a bunch of money, but the shoes turned out perfectly! This year I am going as Horo from Spice and Wolf, and it will be pretty simple if I just buy pants and a light purple shirt and then modify it. Also, of course I will buy a wig! (who makes those! :P)
For me I like the experience of making a costume as much as wearing it! I don't think I would be happy just buying one.

YES! SUPPORT!!! Robot Unicorn Attack is the most awesome game around! And Erasure's "Always" is equally amazing. Infact, that will be the first dance song at my wedding... No, really.

I have personally felt pretty safe at Fanime. No creepers have creeped my way, luckily. But then again, I have not cosplayed much. This year I went as Misty, and the only "creeper" was this guy dressed as Ash who on more than four occasions came up to me and took pictures with me. How many pictures of me does he need!  ??? But it wasn't a big deal, it was only a minor thing. Then there are all the people who run up and scream "MISTY!!" But to my luck this con was glomp-free. I HATE GLOMPS. That right there is creepy.
