Now that Fanime2005 is over, who would you guys love to see as guests for 2006?
As far as MusicFest guests go, I wouldn't mind seeing ZZ again because they were totally awesome. I still have a soft spot for 2004 guests, Duel Jewel and Camino, so I'd love to see those two bands back as well.

- ZZ <-- Talk about working a crowd--they rocked this year! Ramen & Rice were great and all, but ZZ really made MusicFest worth it for me. That's the kind of show that I expect to hear as a finale.
- Miyavi <-- Mmmm... still waiting for him to try to do the US tour thing again, and PERFORM... <3
- The Pillows <-- How I wish I had been able to see them when they came to SF! Unfortunately, I didn't quite make the age cut. Grr.
- PuffyAmiYumi <-- Not sure if they would do a convention, but they're SUPER peppy and amazing live performers. I've seen then three times now, in SF.
- B'z <-- I've seen them in SF as well, and again, not sure if they'd do a con, but they have one helluva stage presence!
- Pierrot <-- ...Hey, a girl can dream, can't she? X3
- Aya Ueto <-- Nothing to do with Anime, I don't think, unless you count the live action Ace wo Nerae series, but she's my favourite female j-artist, and people might recognize her from Azumi or numerous j-dramas.
- Kotani Kinya <-- Hee. I bet he would be hilarious live. X3
- AVEX groups <-- There are TONS of talented groups on the AVEX label, so if Fanime could break into that and do, say, 1 AVEX group like ZZ each year, we could get some really REALLY big names. Maybe not anything like Ayu or Hikki or Globe, but still.
Okay... I have to put this last one here, because even though it's like asking for someone to give me a handful of sand from the moon, I still desperately want to hear live, at least once in my life...
- Yoshiki <-- Come on, he has a (GORGEOUS) house in LA, he's promoting his Violet UK stuff (granted, some attendees might not like the classical, but he does enough of a mixture...), and he can play just about ANY genre of music. He's got a greater-than-great stage presence, he's a LEGEND, and he epitomizes (and produces) j-rock--both past AND present. Okay, so chances are below zero, but I had to try. Even if he is a pain in the ass to work with, and even though he would probably give the staff more stress than they would know what to do with... I would be very apologetic to anyone who had to deal with him, but man, it would be worth a year of hell to hear him perform one hour of music. To me, anyways.
Yoshiki... coming to Fanime. I'd pay triple the admission to see him, easily.
He wasn't just revolutionary to J-rock, but, in my opinion, to rock in general.
Now for my realistic ones:

Hiroshi Aro: (Yuu and Mii. Futaba-Kun Change. I'll give you as many of my bras as you want if you get him over here, Mr. Bennett!)

Kenichi Sonoda (Original Bubblegum Crisis. Gunsmith Cats. Cannon God Exaxxion. Would he be too much of a stretch?)
Lee So-Young (Model. I think it would be cool to have the perspective of a Korean Manga Author)
Matsuri Akinu (Petshop of Horrors. Too much of a stretch?)
I'd also like to see Kunihiko Ikuhara back at Fanime. Having him in past years was a blast. He was just so fabulous...

Moyoko Anno (Happy Mania/Flowers and Bees) - Another very popular mangaka in Jp and now in the US and she is also married to...
Hideki Anno (Nadia/Gunbuster/Eva) - Last time he was in the US was AX96.. he needs to come back and show his film works.
The Pillows - Ball got dropped this year, better have them in 06 before they break up :O.
Kenji Tsuruta (FLCL/EVA etc) - Another fine Gainax director. Missed his panel but very awesome and apreciative when givign autographs.
Eiji Nonaka (Cromartie) - The only mangaka that can pull off drawing like Ryoichi Ikegami and have a huge following in jp. Gotta love mechazawa!
The Noodles - They did a awesome show at the SF Jp all girls nite.
The Emeralds - Another cute band from the SF jp girls nite show. They speak good engrish ;-)!!

I asked a lot of the dealers this year about her CDs, and managed only to find one. We need Kotoko. Kotoko is good. Kotoko is a goddess. I know a couple hundred people that will travel just to see her. (Need sample music? PM me!)
ZZ was great, Ramen and Rice also, as well as Maria Yamamoto. I'd also suggest Yui Horie, and Be4U, but not sure about their avaliability.
As for the non-peformers, I wouldn't mind Mr.Poitras coming back (Thanks for the research help!), and meeting the guy who worked on Eva was cool as well.

and yeah Pink Panther, the chances of PLC coming back from "haitus" in time for Fanime is very low. Also, according to a poster on Batsu, if he is charged, the Japanese authorities won't let him out of Japan. no ifs ands or buts about it. ;o;!

As much as I appreciate KOTOKO, I enjoy a variety of I'VE singers. I'm kind partial to MAKO and Ayana. Lia is awesome too just cause she sang Tori no Uta. Any of them would be fine at Fanime though. =P

It depends on what you count as "MusicFest". If you mean events that were officially called "MusicFest", then that would be 2004 with Nami Tamaki, Duel Jewel, Camino, and Blood (I believe). The years previous to that were called "GakuFest", not "MusicFest". I believe that the very first musical performer at Fanime was Mari Iijima at Fanime 1999 (I wasn't there), but I think it was simply called "the Mari Iijima concert" back then.

honestly. that was bad planning on jpophouse's part. but then again Fanime was using the civic for closing ceremonies.. (couldnt y'all have switched? I mean its not like anyone needs to mosh for closing ceremonies). The montgomery was horrible I was in second row and their faces were STILL BLURRY >.O

The closing ceremonies actually weren't in the civic this year. It was at the convention center, and no one did any last performances...haha, I was staring at Sotaro the whole time instead of watching the AMVs.
Anyway, I think if D'espairsRay did get the Civic on that Monday, it woulda looked a lot more empty wouldn't it? There didn't seem like a lot of people at the Montgomery Theatre to begin with...then again, haha, I couldn't really tell. But hrm, I guess anything would've been better than the Montgomery Theatre. I totally agree that the venue was just horrible.
Hrm, and to add to the already long list of guests, I'd really like to see Acid Android...It's Yukihiro's (L'Arc~en~Ciel's drummer) solo project, and I absolutely adore him, so...LOL. I wouldn't mind seeing Ken's solo project, Sons of All Pussys (S.O.A.P.) either >_>

Hm. Go Nagai would have made a wonderful tie-in this year with the release of the live-action Cutey Honey movie. There were over 300 people there I tell you >< ! Haido Manda and I worked our butts off all weekend getting about 50 of those people xD
I'd have preferred it at the civic, then people could MOSH. 8D I was talking to Marty and the other girl who I never got the name of and they were annoyed the montgomery didn't even have a cover (or a rising stage) for the pit.

Hahahaha join the club; I have no idea what the Niji PV is all about either, but I heart that song to pieces. It's my favorite Laruku song ever, hands down. Nearly made me burst into tears the first time I heard it; that "Nanimo, nanimo, nanimo!" part always kills me. You can hear a sample of it at their website: http://www.camino-project.com They've also got a really short PV clip of "Lovin' Moon" and so you should really check their website out. It's really hard to find Camino's CDs offline, soooooo if they were to come to Fanime again *begs MusicFest folks*, I'm sure you'd be able to buy a copy. I don't have the patience to wait so I'd ordered the single from hmv, and the shipping totally killed me. It was twice the amount of the CD!!! So for a $10 single, I paid $30 total...sobs.

I would love to see UVERworld! I really like the PV for D-technoLife! They do seem to have a lot of potential...by the time Fanime06 rolls around, their popularity may have grown a bit in Japan, so who knows if they'll be able to come to the US anytime soon? They may want to foster their popularity on their home turf first...But I would LOVE it if they could come. I've only been able to find like 1 TV appearance from them, but I really like what I've seen and heard so far. They're on the same label as Orange Range, aren't they?

okay, i know it woudl be like, impossible, but i say tsukiko amano. i mean, she has great music, and she has increased greatly in popularity since she did "chou" (the theme to fatal frame 2), and even did the theme for fatal frame 3... maybe...? she seems to have very little of a fan-base at fanime, which can be a good thing adn a bad thing- good because we can expose more people to her music, and bad because not as many people will know her and possibly not like her...?
and if gackt was brought in, i would stop going to fanime. XD

I think that would be a fantastic idea. Someday's Dreamers was made even more awesome with the ED "Under the Blue Sky"; I love that song so much, and the music video rules all.

Would it even be called J-Rock? Perhaps there are some Bands here in California that write Japanese Lyrics or so, and if so perhaps a battle of the bands. Next American Idolize it with 3 music critics, one of which is a total ass just to add flavor, and see what happens. Very tiny possibility of it actually becoming reality, yet a fun idea just the same, at least I think so. >>

I think there was a battle of the bands suggestion, but I don't remember the thread that it was in. It was really more for JRock/anime cover bands though, and not for American JRock Bands (LOL that does sound kinda weird xD). But if we did have something like that for orignal American JRock, it would be cool since a buddy and I are trying to complete our band, but we still need a bassist and a drummer -_-'

The chance of AKFG coming over to the US is probably fairly good, but it would be a lot greater if people buy their domestic releases through Tofu Records to actually show that people want them here. They're a really popular band, and so if their label is going to invest money into bringing them over, there needs to be solid evidence in CD sales in the states to show that there will be support.
But as for them coming to
MusicFest, I'm not so optimistic. Because AKFG is pretty damn popular, I really see AKFG playing somewhere like Otakon because they'll be gauranteed an audience of at least 10,000. Unless there's somehow a venue in San Jose within walking distance from the convention center that can hold much more than 3,000 folks for MusicFest (or an orderly shuttle service thing that can escort lots of people to said venue), I don't really know if their record label will be willing to spend the money to send them to Fanime to play for a relatively small crowd if they can go somewhere else where they'll have 10,000 come see them. In the end, it all comes down to money and who'll be willing to foot the bill for a band like AKFG. I would absolutely LOVE it if they could come to Fanime though, but because of how popular they are, I'm not sure if their record label would make that financial risk for MusicFest. They'd probably focus on Otakon or AX. In the end, whoever has the money will make the choices.
That said and done, I still hope they come and play for MusicFest LOL :) It's just the logical part of my brain isn't too optimistic. And I think too much of why they wouldn't come so I don't get disappointed LOL.

However, they are a relatively new band in the mainstream, and I can imagine them trying to establish not only a solid fanbase within Japan first, but also a distinctive sound that can separate them from everyone else. Yes, it does go for a lot of the artists suggested here, and it really doesn't hurt to mention them at all just in case we do get lucky xD It's a good start to put all the names out there xD I sometimes get carried away with the logical sides of things, so I hope all my babble doesn't discourage people from suggesting any and all of the people they wish to see. Hell, I want to see NEWS (hahaha, I feel so lame), but what are the chances of that happening? Hahaha. xD
UVERworld is definitely a band to keep an eye on. Ever since I first heard D-tecnoLife, I was hooked because it was so damn catchy. And CHANCE! is an awesome song for a 2nd single! I really can't wait to hear what else they've got in store for us. Takuya has such a great voice, and he knows how to blend his beatboxing so perfectly with rock. When I saw them on Melodix a while back, he did some freestyle beatboxing, and I was REALLY impressed. Anyway, it would be great for them to come to MusicFest, especially since people will know about them from the Bleach opening theme xD
Hmm, another person I might be interested in seeing as a guest would be Kawabe Chieko. Her songs are pretty relaxing to listen to, and two of her songs, "Hoshi negai o" and "cry baby" were ending themes for Otogizoushi. And she also showed up in the Live Action version of Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon, as well as the musical stage version of Sailor Moon as Sailor Mercury. LOL.

Seeing as Tofu Records is bringing HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR to Houston, TX in late April (I honestly can't wait to see them!!!! and w00t, it'll be my first time in Texas LOL), maybe it's a sign that Tofu will also bring over UVERworld soon, especially since they're highlighting those two bands with their JPOPCD2 release on their website. If UVERworld could make their US debut at MusicFest, that would totally frickin rock.

the reason why i repeatedly reccomend a music guest possiblity, is becasue i mostly like fanime for the musical related things. i am not really a huge fan of anime, to tell you the truth. i mostly like the other activites besides the anime, such as cosplay and kareoke. i would be very happy if there was a musicfest guest that i liked (and that little thing about trying to increase her popularity amoung US fans of japanese music). i also like it when you can randomly meet up with the bands and stuff in the halls or whatever. :D
but that is basically the reason why i am suggesting only musicfest guest possibilities. (well, one possiblitiy, really. :D)
(oh, and whatever happened to the dealer's room setup with the guests in 2k4? i had a lot of fond memeories of hanging out by the camino booth in the dealer's room. i woudl like to see that setup back if at all possible. :D)

Since Tsukino and Acid_Android have already covered the reasons why UVERworld is a realistic possibility, all I can say is UVERworld for the win. I hope someone seriously looks into getting them at Music Fest '06.
I also second (or third, or fourth, or whatever =b) the pillows. I'm not a particularly big fan of them, but IIRC, they played at a really cheap show in the Bay Area a couple of years ago. I don't have any specifics besides that I saw a flyer for it at SF Japantown a couple of years ago =0.

Karma Shenjing's really easy to work with they're really shy and stuff but they're cooperative and nice and they have really good music :3
Chaos System's unique being the J-rock band with a non-Japanese guy being half the vocalist. They're active in Japan so they are J-rock :3

should be invited. not only is he heavily involved in the anime world, as he's done many voices, but he's known to go to any con he's invited to! Plus, he has a band that could perform at the Musicfest called Eyeshine. They're right in California to my knowledge so it would be great..I know alot of people that would be happy to see him!

Actually, for some reason, the concert attendance at Fanime has not been very high so it's likely that you can get near the stage. :3

Puwahahha, yeah I made that suggestion for NEWS before that whole Kusano fiasco thing happened ><;;; When that news came out, I nearly died because I was like, 'NOOO, first Uchi, now Kusano?!" T^T And now with them stopping activity as a group for a while... T^T I'm pretty sad about it because NEWS is really the first Johnny's group that I've gotten addicted to. I mean, yeah I like Arashi, KAT-TUN etc., but NEWS totally got to me, hahaha.

Hirano Aya. I first heard about her in the Itsudatte My Santa OVA, but as of late she has become more popular, voicing in 3 anime this season [Shikimi from Himawari!, Serizawa Reira from NANA, and of course, THE Suzumiya Haruhi.] All of which I am currently following.
Of course, the possibility of bringing her to Fanime is 1 in a billion. ^^;
I also add Watanabe Akeno and Nabatame Hitomi to my list because they are made of win.
Yeah, I didn't add Horie to my list last time because I don't know if the chances even exist [maybe I should say the same for Yukarin and Mami-chan :P]. Maybe I shouldn't bother adding Shiratori Yuri to my list as well. Who knows when she'll stop voicing for anime...
