Title: Comedy Club at Fanime 2010 Updated: 5/16/2010
Post by: Aya Brea X on March 08, 2010, 01:25:14 AM
We're (planning on being) back for another year of stand up comedy at Fanime!

Sign up is currently CLOSED.  We have SEVEN confirmed performers for a 1 hour panel.

Performers: Please have your set at or under SIX AND A HALF MINUTES. You must write, rehearse and TIME your performance!  This time limit will be strictly enforced.  (I will have one of those Looney Tunes canes...)  If you do not require 6.5 minutes, let me know and I can maybe give it out to someone else who wants your extra minutes.  Your set should be at least 5 minutes, though.

I will not be able to accommodate any additional equipment requests.  You get a mic if the room is big enough.  If you want music or video, sorry, this is not possible.  I cannot afford to spend additional time on set up or breakdown as well as for equipment failure. (Or even of the distraction of you setting up and breaking down during someone else's set.  Sorry!)

Current count: 8 7 performers

Current confirmed:
havok rt (confirmed)
passLion (confirmed)
The Doctor (confirmed)
radpaolo (confirmed)
G-Force (confirmed)
Glitch (confirmed)
Aya Brea X (Me)

For more information on what goes down in this panel, check out last year's thread.  (Hey, whatever happened to that guy who taped all the sets last year?)

One last thing for performers, please send me an e-mail with your confirmed time (remember 6.5 minutes or less!), your real name, badge name, phone number that I can reach you at the convention, what you want to be announced as and a tidbit about yourself so I can work it into your introduction.  I will need this by April 24, 2010.  I will in turn send you my phone number so you can contact me at con in case anything happens.

IF I DO NOT GET AN E-MAIL FROM YOU WITH THIS INFORMATION BY MAY 1 2010 12:01AM , THEN YOU ARE NOT PERFORMING.

I just sent an e-mail or PM to the three people I am still missing this information from, so if you fail to respond to me via e-mail, you have NO EXCUSE if I drop you from the start list.   THERE WILL BE NO ADDITIONAL EXTENTIONS.  If some crazy emergency prevented you from checking here or your e-mail for two weeks, you need time to get your stuff together rather than worry about this show.

UPDATE: 5/3/2010: Thank you for those who sent in confirmations.  Please see above for the updated performers list.  Good luck working on and practicing on your set!  Please expect an e-mail from me by the end of next weekend confirming the details and the start order of the performers.  If I have not already provided it to you, I will give you my at-con contact number at this next e-mail.

Tentative time is slated for Saturday night, 7pm.  I will confirm once the final time listing is out.

Update 5/16/10 Final e-mail coming soon.  Just waiting on one person to confirm an e-mail address.  If you guys have any last minute questions please e-mail or PM me.

Start list is confirmed, I'll give you the order in the last e-mail.  We should be good to go.  The panel times are not listed in the website... and doesn't look like it will be before the con, so please please double check the schedule book when you get it at registration, but as far as the last communique I got from Panels we are slated for Saturday, 7pm-8pm in Panels 3 (Salons IV, V, and VI in the Marriott).  If I notice a change at con I will text you all.  If I am notified earlier I will just e-mail you guys.

If you have any questions regarding this event, please feel free to send me a PM or an e-mail at [email protected]

No really sick lolita jokes?
*scratches off half of jokes on list.*
In all seriousness , although I can only speak about myself, toning down the jokes won't be a problem. I will avoid mentioning dog droppings, pedophile priests, and my love for underage girls.( ironically it was a harmless joke from Paolo about the Sharks team that upset some people. XD)
I really look forward to this year. And yes, more female comedians. I would like to see even more different styles of comedy.

I'll make most of my jokes clean. And we can tell the crowd "meet us in the hallway after the panel is over to hear all the risky jokes fanime didn't want you to hear!" (yes, that itself is also a joke. XD)

Well, you can mention dog droppings, that in itself is not so bad.  You can mention pedophiles and make fun of them in general, but joking about the nocturnal habits of pedo fan(man)boys is probably out of line (I don't want to hear it, and I'd imagine a lot of other people don't want to have that mental image etched in their imaginations either.)

It doesn't have to be Saturday afternoon clean... let's go for Prime Time levels.  If the FCC is okay with it, it's cool with me.

Yeah... don't joke about the Sharks.  Bad idea.  We love the Sharks... and their practice rink is not too far away, so don't be surprised if they are waiting for you outside with their hockey sticks this year.  ^_^;;;

If we're going to start talking about things we can and cannot say, can we at least have a moratorium on any reference to "Dateline NBC" or "To Catch a Predator?"

Either way, I'm in.

That seemed to be the running gag for fanime. Even when I cam back to my hotel room my friend said "have a seat".

I still think the reaction to the sharks/san jose joke is a mountain out of a mole hill.
I myself will mind my manners if someone heckles or boos, but if there's a chance to make a funny comeback I'll do it.

Well alot of the things I say during my set are counter-intuitive. XD
But in all serious, by "minding my manners" I mean I won't flip out and talk about the person's mother's anatomy or things of that nature. I will respond but just not to that vulgar degree.(no matter how much tempted :3)
Although I would say don't worry because heckling and booing rarely happened. The audience is a good sport.

What if everyone on the roster this year had a meetup prior to the panel? Like a pow-wow to go over our material and tweak it appropriately so that we all are as entertaining for the audience as possible.

Since this isnt a competition, there's no reason for us to not work together to make the panel as kick arse as possible.

We don't really have a meetup before the panel. All we do is wait 15 minutes before the previous panel ends, and maybe chit chat about what jokes we have in mind.

And of course we work together. As we always do. Because we're damn awsome. ^^

We really should get to know each other more, I mean we've been working together as a team for three years now. However with me, I really wouldn't benefit from doing a preview performance in front of you guys as I really can't get my rhythm unless I'm performing in front of a decently sized crowd.

Okay guys, I've updated the entire first post, so if you haven't read it since 3/28, go read it to make sure you are updated!

I don't care if you do a Chris Hanson joke.  Hey, if you can still work it in in a surprisingly funny way, go for it.  It's not totally relevant anymore since the show hasen't been on for years, but hey, you can still make it work.  (On a related note: The "It's over 9000!!!!" joke seems to still be funny, and DBZ has been over for how long?)

Again, it's not my intent to control your material and do jokes that only I think are funny, but my concern is that I did not tell Fanime that this is an 18 plus panel, so if you start doing 18+ jokes and someone complains, you are jeopardizing our ability to come back next year.

If it helps, I actually planned to be in crossplay. I managed to work it into my set.

Dont worry though, it's not a Man-F*ye thing.

I thought about doing my set in crossplay last year, but didn't have money for a costume. Won't do it for this year since two men in dresses will start to look redundant. XD Make us proud.

Okay, can the performers do me a favor and try to cut down their sets to SIX AND A HALF minutes?  I had another performer try to contact me on the 21st but apparently her e-mail never made it.  So six minute sets plus some laughter pause would be 6.5 minutes and would give us time to transition between the now EIGHT performers and have a little breathing room at the beginning.  Otherwise I'll have to limit the poor gal to 5 minutes and cut my own set to 5 :(  I'll be very unhappy.

I have no problem cutting down the time of my routine, but I was wondering if it's too late to make this into a two hour panel? Eight is just two shy away from the 10 you said would be needed for two hours, and it would keep us from rushing things. Plus we usually have to give ten minutes for the next panel after us to set up. I mean we weren't really left with that much time left over during last year's two hours.
Your current plan is good, I'm just giving a harmless suggestion. ^^;

Agreed. I don't think we did this in the past two years, but maybe this year, if we could find somebody (a vol maybe?) to keep time for us, that'd be great. They could shine a light (or gesture wildly) in our general direction when we have two minutes left, and shine a light (or gesture wildly) again in our direction when we got 30 seconds left in our set.

Just like in a real comedy club!

Although I do second Glitch's harmless suggestion of trying to lobby for a two-hour panel, if it is at all possible, Fanime panel gods. I just think folks might have more fun if it isn't so much SIT DOWN SHUT UP, WE'RE GONNA CRAM SO MUCH COMEDY DOWN YOUR THROAT RUSH RUSH RUSH. And it would give us time cushions as well for unforeseen circumstances.

As of press time, my set is precisely 6 minutes and 53 seconds. Convenient.

I'll shave off the appropriate time, then, but I'm also for the gesture of a 2 hour panel. If that matters.

I have no problem extending the panel to 2 hours if y'all want it. However, I think Aya's concern is that she wants to be sure there are enough acts to fill that space without everything being awkward and dragging on.

On my end, it would need to be requested _very_ soon. I am in the rough draft stages of creating the panels schedule right now. At this point, it wouldn't be hard to extend the time. Next week, though, or even in a few days, it'll get a lot harder, as most of the time slots will already be full.

Quick we gotta take a final head count. So far from what I've gathered our performers are...

Aya
Pablo
G
Havok
New Guy from Last Year (need name)
New Girl Contacting Aya
The Doctor

7 people running 10 minute sets would push the panel to just shy over an hour. If we get a two our slot then that leaves us with 50 minutes left to spare, far too big of a gap to leave unaccounted for. There's always an option of going 15 minutes but that's just WAY too much performing time and people WILL get bored.

8 people(you forgot to count me, last year's new guy goes by the name PassLion).  Ten minutes each and five minutes to leave the next panel prep time would be around 35 minutes. Although I'm still wondering how we ate up so much time last year.(I know some of you guys had really long sets.) if only fanime had the option of an hour and 30 minutes.
Everybody is gonna have to be sharp on their toes for measuring the time of their time sets in an hour slot, so I am in favor of at least getting somebody to wrap up their set.
All in all, I'd show up even if the panel was 15 minutes. XD

My bad glitch, 8 performers.

The thing was last year we did not eat up a lot of time. We worked with a two hour panel and even without time restrictions the six of us struggled to go past the 1 hour 30 minute mark. The long panel time really hurt us overall last year as some of us felt rather pressured to take up as much time as possible and thus we did bore the audience to a certain degree. Time limits force us to go right for the throat ASAP and to tighten up our pacing. Even if all of us went 10 minutes I believe that leaving 35 minutes of cush time might be a tad excessive.

Gotta side with G on this I mean two hours last year was nice but too much. I'm fine with the time since I already have a hectic con schedule. So I'm doing about 5mins-7minutes max regardless. So let do the math: 120minutes (Total time)-~7(start)-~7(end)-~7(my set)=102minuntes/7performers=~14minunte sets from everyone else or 60-5(start)-5(end)-5(me)=45/7=6.5minute sets person. So then the million dollar question is does everybody else want to/can do a 6.5minute set or a 14minute set?

Fixed.

Ok, I think I'm convinced to leave it at an hour. I suppose it would be better to be rushing than to be like, 'we have all this time now you guys, what do you wanna do' and I do agree with G that it'll force our sets have to pop that much faster, versus the rambling on and on. Stand-up wise, the amount of time that does go into a tight five is pretty staggering. Let alone, a decent 10-15.

And I guess that means inadvertently, less possibility of audience turnover. If there's a constant barrage of comedy coming at them, they won't get bored, leave midway through the panel. They'll (probably, more likely) stay for the whole thing and have a fine time! We are doing it for the audience, after all.

I can easily do 15 to 20 minutes. I can even go to 30, if I'm feeling conceited enough.

The thing with a 15 minute slot is, if it's funny, it wont get boring. So if everyone was confident enough in a longer set near or at 15 minutes, I dont see a big problem with attendant contentment.

I really think we should play it safe this year and go with a one-hour time slot. Better to leave the audience wanting more than to drive them away from giving them too much. Also Doctor, I am confident in your capabilities of running a 30 minute set but let's not overwhelm everyone with your awesome talent.

Also people, I think there's an opportunity Stage Zero is offering that we should totally exploit.

I agree. This could be very good advertisement. We could have 1 or 2 people do an act about why people should go see the comedy club. But we need to act on this quickly. In relation, I might plan to carry a sign and advertise the panel an hour before it begins. XD  We need this thing packed to the brim with people. ^^

Time slots are being filled fast folks and I can't run a 15 minute set solo as then it will over-saturate my act. I see the time slot being filled with us performs on stage giving a bit of a highlight reel of our routines and getting the audience laughing then we'll advertise the main panel. I'm a free agent during the entire con but I gotta know when you folks are free to go as well.

I'm a free agent during the entire con but I gotta know when you folks are free to go as well.
I'm very much for going on for this, but we really need Aya to green light this idea soon. As soon as she gives us the go let's sign up quickly and flesh out the details afterwards.

I really think we should play it safe this year and go with a one-hour time slot. Better to leave the audience wanting more than to drive them away from giving them too much. Also Doctor, I am confident in your capabilities of running a 30 minute set but let's not overwhelm everyone with your awesome talent.

Pfft, of course I was being facetious.

Apparently you were too. Even so, I AM awesome.

Regarding Stage Zero: What exactly is it?

It seems like a very vague performance opportunity. But performance for what?

I'm up for it, if time/space permits, naturally.

Stage Zero is Fanime's 24 hour performance/promotion area. Set smack dab in the middle of the main convention hallway, Stage Zero host a wide variety of acts to entertain the crowd. There's charity auctions, dance offs, drawing competitions, trivia game shows, guest interviews and even improv. The key thing about stage zero is that there's always SOMETHING going on and in general people always watch these event. The sign ups are for us to us their resources to our advantage so we're pretty much free to showcase whatever we want. Like I said, we gather the comedians together and we do quick three minute stand-up bits to generate buzz for our panel.

Confessions: I didn't real ALL of the posts.

I feel like my set is longer than 7 minutes.

I haven't timed it yet but I have a rough draft.

I'm up for involving with the stage-zero shameless plug-preview thing

during the panel, If I have the cables for plugging my ipod in the mixer if I desire to have music in my act may I? (I can set up/break down myself using my allotted time , and I don't mind if it doesn't work)

That's all I think

Okay, I don't want to be the one who jumps the gun but is it okay with everyone if I send the application on behalf of the panel to stage zero by tomorrow? The deadline is really close.
I figure we're all okay if we apply for the friday slot at 4:30PM-4:45PM - 15 Min? We can have 4:45PM-5:00PM - 15 Min as the alternate choice in the application. Obviously friday since our panel always seems to fall on a saturday.
I'm know I'm really risking a scolding by Aya  ^^;; , but I don't have a problem if we did this stage zero preview completely under her supervision.
I am panicky about the deadline, so everybody please jump in with your comments.

Better to ask for forgiveness than permission, I say. I mean, as long as we all have our 16+ content filters on (maybe even more stringent since on stage for even more mass consumption, the heads who are going on should be golden.

I'm okay with whatever you do, Glitch, so long as I'm not obligated to do anything at the Stage Zero thing. I'll stick around and support whomever does a portion of their bit, but that's it.

My style of comedy isnt really appropriate for onlookers and casual passer-by's. But thats good for the lot of you who want to do it; more time for you.

Done and done folks. A 15 minute slot is still available, but I had to put a 30 minute slot that was available as the backup slot. Don't worry, I think they'll still give us the 15 minute one. Now let's just pray to chthulu that everything goes well.

EDIT: I got confirmation for the 4:30pm 15 minute slot on friday.(yay! no 30 minute preview that's actually half the size of our show. XD) I'll pm Aya about this, and then I'll pm a few of you to see how we might put this together. I requested use of a computer inc ase we may want to run images for this. We should definitely have a logo or something present.

Hi Guys,

Just wrote back as response to the PM I got.  All good on the Stage Zero preview show if you guys are up for organizing it yourself.  Sadly I will be at Artist Alley so I won't be able to be there to check it out or help with it, but I can trust you guys not to burn down the  barn, right? O_o

(By the by, E-mail or PM are the best ways to get my attention, I don't come to check out the msg board every day.)

I think 1 hour is a better idea.  Last year I did a 25 minute set by myself and we DID kind of drag at parts, and I noticed some of you used stuff from last year and really did struggle at parts.  We kind of got away with it last year since the first year audience was SO SMALL so most of the second year (last year) audience members did not notice the recycled material, but this year we won't be able to do the same thing.

As for timing, first year I do apologize I did not do such a good job, but second (last) year I did send out an e-mail (which not all of you read in its entirety since you were surprised I said we would do an improv thing at the end...) that I would not time since we had PLENTY of time to kill.  I was SWEATING BULLETS we would have too much time left.  I think 6 minutes worth of material with pause time is PLENTY for your AAA material.  Plus now you have more minutes at Stage Zero to make people laugh :D  I will do a yellow card warning at 5 minutes and a red card warning at 6 minutes and actually cut you off at a convenient moment at 7 minutes.  Fair?  More details to come.  You can also trade your minutes like Carbon Credits.  If someone just wants to do a 5 minute set, you can absorb that extra minute from them.  But yes, no shorter than 5 minutes please.  Plan on 5-6 minutes of material with 30 second laugher pause.

As for the music request, I'm really sorry, but I cannot accommodate that.  The reason is that I don't have the time for you to set up or break down the equipment.  I don't want you doing that during someone else's set, we're cutting it pretty close already and I don't want you to break down or set up during someone else's allotted panel time.  Plus this is a stand up open mic, so you get a mic (probably).

Thanks for the thumbs up about the preview, Joyce. The organization of the preview show will be through consenus of all of us involved.(it's under my name but this is very much a team effort) Since we're trying to attract people to the panel, my short set will be made up of previous jokes made at the panel because now I know which jokes were successful. But of course if some of you feel your unsused jokes left out of your set need to be heard, then go ahead. ^^

I definitely love the color coded cards idea. I got my set planned out in case I have to end it earlier than it was supposed to be.

For those of you interested in the stage zero preview of the panel, please send me a pm so I can get things together for us.

Hmmm. The color coded cards really _are_ a good idea. Joyce - I might steal your idea to use for my staff to signal panelists when their panel time is nearly up. We discussed at our last meeting how we might do this, but failed to come up with an idea of colored cards. Thanks for the idea!

Hey, participants, I need your contact information (name, e-mail, phone, badge name, what you want to be announced as, a bit you want me to say about you as I introduce you), confirmed set time, and confirmation you're still alive ASAP.  Send them to me via email to [email protected], thanks!

Even if you don't have your confirmed set time (in which case you are defaulted to 6.5 minutes) please let me know you're still alive and still planning on going.  I only got ONE e-mail response and ONE PM confirmation so far.  Just because you performed before does not mean I kept all your contact info, plus it's just nice to know you're still alive and planning on coming.  If you do not reply by next Friday I will either give your minutes away or I will use them myself and the elimination will be final.

And no, your prior PM's with absolutely no confirmation information save for "I'm coming!" or something like that does not count.  I need the information listed above.  If you did not just get an e-mail response or a PM from me today, then I do not have your information.

Because if you're too busy to send me an e-mail with information you should have off the top of your head, I'm just going to assume you're too busy to write a comedy set.  As this is already an extenion of a deadline I announced on the 13th, I think I've given you plenty of time to get back to me.

Okay, people, NEXT FRIDAY.  May 1 is when I will be drafting up the start order and if you haven't sent me an e-mail by that day then it is too late.

Final e-mail coming soon.

Just to let everybody in the panel know, I have recently bought a camera and plan to record the entire panel. I'm gonna do alot of recording during the con.

And the preview to our panel at stage zero is doing quite well. ^^

Sorry for missing the first half of the club, I had to pick up something in the Fairmont and got a killer nosebleed along the way. However I will say the audience was VERY pleased with this club and appreciated the fact that the performers all went out with their guns blazing. Now all that's needed is videos and we'll be all set.

I gotta say thank you to everybody involved in this. I thought everybody was eve funnier than last year.(I am being serious about that too) And I thought we had an awesome performance from the new guy.

The funny thing is toning down my set made me be one of the cleaner comics rather than the dirty ones.(shakes evil monkey finger at Joyce. XD)

Although I did go over my minutes simply because I forgot some of my material for a few seconds.(I was doing twenty different things before going to the con and it really got in the way of my practicing.0_0) I had to cut my thanking speech short and left out the part about the volunteers and staff.

So I would like to say here; Thank you staff and volunteers who work so hard during fanime in a job that some people rarely give grattitude for. Thank you guys for allowing us to have this panel and thank you for anything you do for us in the future.

BTW. I also have video of the panel will post it when I can.

My audio levels are fine but the visuals are too grainy and pixelated. Perhaps we can combine them together. XD

Which skits did you miss recording? I figure since youtube takes an extremely long time to load my vids, I could focus on uploading those that you missed. Your video of G is actually higher quality than mine.

It depends if Joyce decides to host it again in 2011, but I'm assuming the panel will happen again.
And we always welcome new performers. I always look forward to new approaches to comedy revolving around us fanboys and fangirls.

As far as I know, the panel is Joyce's brainchild. It would be odd if anyone else decided to head it.

That said, if anyone else would, it would probably be appropriate if it were one of the veteran comics of the panel.

Hosting or not, any presence by chthulu's manager would be awesome. His panel is loads of laughs(the first year of our panel actually had his right before us, so it got me good and pumped to perform) and he did a pretty cool job hosting the amv section of hentai night.

Hahaha

The set=up.  Each comedien has set amount of minutes for their gig. Joyce starts the show and does her bit, and then calls the person on to the front hte audience and do the bit. She sits in the firs row, and puts up sign to indicate how much time the comedian has. The comedian ends the bit, audience claps, goes back to seat and Joyce introduces the next comedian. this way, we go through each comedian and it ends with all comedian getting in front of the stage and taking a bow.

It's way too early to tell.(unless you ask Joyce if she's doing the panel again) But more than likely it's gonna happen again. Around February or March is when questions start to fly. For now no worries.

Bad news guys.  The company I'm working for is "reorganizing" so no one is cleared for any vacations for days after 3/31.  There's no estimated date we're going to know when we can ask for vacation days. :(  So I'm out for Comedy Club.  I haven't even registered for the con yet since I don't know if I can go.  If one of you boys who participated before wants to put in for the panel instead, by all means, please submit the panel.  Sorry, guys.

I'm not overly aware of what's involved in putting on this panel, but if someone needs some assistance I'll help out if I can.  Just send me a message since I have no idea what's involved.

Oh crap! That means were down to only men making up this show.
In all seriousness, if no one else steps up I would like to take up managing the panel. I ran the preview version last year so I don't think I'll mess it up that badly. lol
But yeah, I would like to get the other comedians' input on this.

Assistance from his evil tentacleness would sound awesome. I guess we'll give you a pm as soon as as we sort out this situation. ^^

Hey guys thought I'd post in and say that I think I know some people who are good at hosting and organizing panels. Ever since I entered Last Comic Standing I've been keeping tabs with the Sol Cal nerd comedians and have done a few extra shows with them. They're affiliated with a great nerd standup group call Comics on Comics and have connections with many comedians in the area. If anything we can add them to our numbers as we've always had an issue with time.

http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/home.php?sk=group_134342019956439&ap=1

The two possible outcomes I can foresee are....

1. They submit the paper work and register the panel under their name and they're in charge/
2. One of us proposes the idea and we run the show and invite them to perform for open mic.

To all the fans and supports let me first say that I've always stressed that this thing was Aya's show and we have our own solid roster of fan favorites. These guys are more than capable of running a comedy club and will be doing so at AOD next month. The question is what you guys want to do. I owe you guys a lot for the support you've given me and I would have never gone on to do bigger things if it wasn't for my training and practice here. The decision needs to be made and it needs to be made soon. If nothing is said I'll just tell the group to make the panel as it's better to have them run the comedy club than have no comedy club at all but I feel like this is a huge step and we should talk about a bit.

Bringing in some people to help us sounds cool.(which is also what I think we should do with Hunterzero)
In my opinion, if we bring in this comedy team I think we should still keep it a panel run by us fanime comedians. I'll take your word that these guys are funny as hell. XD
I think we should get everybody's input before deciding.(which is what I'm trying to do)

Inviting others to host the panel has its risks, in a way sounds like we're giving up the baton and let them have it (and that's the risk is if they take over).

It's not hard to do a panel, just contact them about what we want to do, lay it out to them what will be happen.
Sorta, type up a small treatment so they know all the who what when where why hows.

Personally I'm up for anything as long as we're recognized and everyone gets their spotlight.

Glitch is doing a great job organizing and doing leadership so far, I'm comfortable if he decides to "run" the panel.

Also, I'll probably be needing more than 6 minutes, would everyone be ok if we have the 1.5-2 hour panel slot?

Just gonna toss out that I'd like to participate this year IF it goes ahead and IF things work out and I attend FanimeCon again. If there's some kinda deadline or whatnot that I need to confirm, lemme know.

Been working on a sort of act since I heard about the "panel" after attending my first con last year. Six minutes would be more than enough time for it.

I've never done any stand-up, but I've done plenty of public speaking and a little comedy-based acting so I'm thinking it's not too much of a stretch. The worst that can happen is I get booed off the stage, shunned, stripped down, branded a "forgotten one", and forced to live my life in exile away from civilization, right?

Here's hoping!

Well I'd prefer if one of us regulars ran the panel if not one of you guys then I'll host if needed.

I guess it comes down to who puts down their name on the entry for the panel, but for running it we're likely to have a group effort.
I guess we have to decide soon.(I think) ^_^;

Okay. Since time draws closer, I'm gonna throw out the option of me doing the signing up part and somebody else who wants to can be the 2nd person on the entry form. Who votes for this?
I will add that if somebody wants to do it another way, I will be glad to hear that out too. :)

I've only been with you guys at last year's panel, so I dont feel I've any right to an opinion; or at least, my opinion probably shouldnt have any weight, but I'm comfortable with G 'running' this. He always seems to be on point whenever I'm at a panel he's at.

And this is Soap, by the way.

And when are the sign-ups starting? I want to...uh....sign up.

Heya Soap,dude.
We are collectively running this panel. The comedic veterans of the panel that is. I sent in the application for the panel a while ago and I am acting as sort of the middle man between the panel and the con.
The group of vets has the final say but everybody's opinion does have some weight. In a short while I will post the 2011 edition sign ups here on the boards. It'll basically be the same procedure as last year.

Hey guys!  This is Fazio, one of the "comedy vets" G was talking about.

I just want to stress that we DID NOT WANT TO TAKE OVER YOUR PANEL!  Our concern was really that it wasn't going to happen.  We only have one goal and it's pretty simple: bring comedy to anime and game conventions.  We're not trying to take over the world.  We just want to make people laugh.

We recently had a show at AOD that went REALLY well.  We had a packed house and everyone was hilarious (including G).  We are also affiliated with the guys who put on AX's Last Comic Standing, and we recently had a show during Anime LA.  What we'd like to do is combine forces with you.  Most of us are in SoCal, so it's hard for us to come up North every month or so.  If you guys can do conventions like this, we'd be more than happy to provide and services you might need.

What I think is best is if we can do these comedy shows under one banner.  If we can have a single name that grows with every con instead of a bunch of small competing stand up shows, than it would really benefit everyone.  We'd get bigger conventions and maybe even do something like PAX or Comic-Con someday!

Again, we do not want to take over your show.  We just think it helps everyone if we work together.  There's strength in numbers.

I'm looking forward to participating in your show.  Hope you all think I'm funny lol

-Fazio

I can vouch for these guys and their mission. I've seen their work and the progress they've made from convention to convention.

No problem dude.
Getting outside help sounds really cool. We intend to stay "The Comedy Club at Fanime" but there's no problem in giving your group props out loud at our show and having you perform with us.

Seen the panel every time from the get-go (though obviously I'm not a usual forumite here).  It's amazing and I would love to throw my hat in the ring to participate, too.

Haha, remember last year?  I think everybody except maybe one person had at least one porno joke prepared.

Although official sign-ups aren't going on yet, I guess I'll drop by until they are.  I've done one or two stand-up routines before and I have plenty of material to work with before the event, lol.  Since there are now a number of regular performers (and maybe G-Force's group), would it be a good idea for us prospectives to prepare a demo reel or anything?

Really sorry to hear Aya isn't performing. :\
