Title: Fanimecon 09' Concert, What band would you suggest?
Post by: Gekido 87 on May 31, 2008, 01:03:13 PM
I'm new at posting. I liked the Ancafe. But next year I wan't to see "Maximum The Hormone," their the band who sang both OP & ED for Deathnote. It would be so cool if they sang the album "Buiiki Kaesu." That album is hella sick!!

FLOW!!!
Funny you say this. My friend recently IM'ed me and was like "Hey... so it turns out I'm friends with the manager of FLOW. I wonder if I should ask them to come to the US." Unfortunately said friend and Fanime don't really get along, so it wouldn't be Fanime she brings them to if I said she should.

Maximum the Hormone has lots of explicit lyrics, which could cause some problems with some parents. LOTS OF FUN FUN FUN PAPER WORK AND NOTICES!

Bands I would like... I'm going to see Jam Project at Otakon... I saw Momoi at AX, that leaves...

Bump of Chicken, and Radwimps. Oh I wouldn't mind seeing Back-On either...

Need I even say it? Oh, what the heck:

Amano Tsukiko.

Seriously. We NEED her at the con. She would be perfect.

JiLL-Decoy association or Paris Match would also be pwn, though, since I don't believe we have ever had any jazz at Fanime, and they are both rather accessable by people that aren't huge fans of the genre, due to having fusion styles. JDA would be preffered, but PM would be awesome, as well.

So many J-Pop and J-Rock bands I'd like to see at Fanime, including FLOW...

But if I could wish for one, it would have to be UVERworld.

"Chance! (http://youtube.com/watch?v=LLy0mEZQxDM)" FTW!!!

Dave Rodgers. Mega NRG Man. Cherry. Go2 (Ace and Fastway). Domino. Franz Tornado. Bazooka Girl. ad nauseum.

(Yes, I know this is unlikely. Yes, I know Avex hasn't allowed Eurobeat artists to perform on North-American soil yet. Still... if there were ANY means of getting this to happen, Fanime would have my GUARANTEED attendance next year.)

I'm amazed I actually agree with you on something, but I would love to see Bump of Chicken at Fanime. It would be amazing. (and might be enough to tip my friend to the side of not studying for finals to come to Fanime)

ELLEGARDEN would also be really awesome to see at Fanime, or LM.C.

They do 329847239 concerts in the US already. They also have virtually no fans in Japan as well. Pillows do hella concerts in the US as well. I'd want to see a band I can't really see in the states come here.

Yeah, Elle on hiatus sucks. Though they are coming out with a bests album... which I'll pick up despite having all of their albums already.

I don't know if anyone has heard about Kimeru. He's very talented and does J-Pop/Rock music and has been featured in musicals like TeniMyu and the Japanese version of Pippin! ^_^ He's also collaberated with Daisuke Asakura (TMR's music ring a bell?) and Tetsuya Komuro (Ayu anyone?)... It would be AMAZING if he could come to preform at Fanime Con next year, his crowd interactions are great, he's super cute, and he has an amazing voice!

If you don't know the greatness of Kimeru then:

Maybe for next year, we can change up the musical artists, away from the typical J-Rock/J-Pop.

I suggest Nujabes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nujabes) (real name is Jun Seba). If you've heard the music before, it's a beautiful blend of hip-hop and jazz music. And definately he would get the same amount of reception given how popular he is, both before and after working on Samurai Champloo.

Secret: Orange Range is... J-rock.

Orange Range is a Japanese band... that plays rock music. Sure some of their songs are hybrid/alternative... but they are still very much a rock band. Same with Asian Kung-Fu Generation.

If no one suggested Guitar Vader yet, add them to the list >>.

Maybe have some of the former participants(ex. Nami Tamaki, Karma Shenjing, etc.) return for 2009. Possibly give another shot at bringing UVERworld if you're up for it.

Although I do not expect to see An Cafe for 2009, it would be nice to see them again for future years.

Then an encore of some crappy emo poetry, followed by slitting my wrist on stage with broken pieces of the CD with the song every rose has its thorns.

Metal fan that I am, I would love to see Feel So Bad or Sex Machineguns make the trip over, even though the likelihood is slim to nil.
Have the sex machineguns been in the US before? I can't really find info on it. That'd be cool if their american debut was fanime.

My picks:

-An Cafe (again 8])

-Utada Hikaru (Of course, KH1 and 2)

-The Pillows (FLCL, Furi Curi, Fooly Cooly)

-Nobodyknows+ (Naruto Shippuuden :0  Cool band ^-^)

I would totally bust a gut if someone said "50 Cent" >w>

In the tone of Obscurities that wont make it, I'd definitely say BAZRA.

Also, you can tell me that they're disbanded/on hiatus as many times as you friggin want, but that wont make me want to see ELLEGARDEN perform at Fanime any less. Other bands I've heard here that I agree on, despite likeliness (or lack thereof) would be:

- Haikara (You guys are aware that they're losing their vocalist too, right?)

- T.M. Revolution/Abingdon Boys School

- FLOW

- Nujabes + Guests (His music is cool and all, but it lacks w/o groups like 5 Deez and rappers like Shing02 and Substantial)

well i would suggest Dir En Grey of course. but i've noticed that the con was overly crowded because we had a big band play so i think it'd be nice to have smaller band come that way we don't have a high influx of con-goers and so the convention doesn't have to be moved somewhere else because of the massive amounts ogf people.

heck, it's a shorter distance from japan to here across the pacific
maybe since they're not really popular, they'll be cheaper?  hm...

(Yes, I know this is unlikely. Yes, I know Avex hasn't allowed Eurobeat artists to perform on North-American soil yet. Still... if there were ANY means of getting this to happen, Fanime would have my GUARANTEED attendance next year.)

Haha, I'm with you ;D

All in all realistically, it's hard to say what I'd request since it's difficult to get anyone out here period. Too bad there wasn't just a list of possibilities where people actually have access to in terms of connections, information, etc.

You know what sucks to me?  What sucks is big name bands that we have to hide from our fan base.  What sucks is limited time with the band where we can't even get them to attend opening ceremonies, a Meet the Guest Reception, and one autograph session for a luck few.

Frankly, I would really not like to see this at Fanime...ever!

With that in mind, which of these many bands that you have suggested would actually be fan friendly?  Which ones don't have a massive label behind them calling the shots?  Which one would be so perfect for Fanime because they would love to get in the trenches and party with you all?  That is what I would love to see, a kick ass band that wants to enjoy you all.

What say you all after having to think about this?

Well, I would keep suggesting Amano Tsukiko, since she really loves her fans and did not have a large label calling all the shots, but she decided to retire the "Amano Tsukiko" persona about a week ago, and maybe will make more music that will be released, or maybe she will just write it privately. If there were a way to coax her out of retirement for Fanime, she would be perfect, though, since she has such amazing music, has been studying English, loves her fans, etc.

Well, a girl can still dream, can't she? (As in, you can always try. ;P)

What? Not pushing for jazz? Aww...

I was hoping for some JiLL-Decoy association or paris match. ;D

Rie sings pop, but she really isn't active in her solo career, and her best release was 5 years ago. I would be happy with September, the band that she is with, though, if we got them out here. Probably not the type of pop that you are looking for, though.

Well, here goes, anyway, since I don't know if you could find any ifo on her on your own (since Rie is a common name and she is rather obscure): http://www.movado-rie.com or http://usmusic.co.jp/portal/artist/september/ (first is her personal webpage, second is the official webpage for September)

I love her, but I haven't been suggesting her because she would have conflicted with my Amano Tsukiko suggestion (since she does Amano's back vocals at lives and is considered by Amano fans to be part of the band).

That's all I have in the way of pop. Are you sure you don't want jazz? Even jazz-fusion? D:

By the way, you can always PM me if you want to hear samples of any of this stuff I keep suggesting. I doubt you will have an easy time finding much in the way of Rie's music.

The more I think about it, the more I am liking the idea of JiLL-Decoy association, actually. I mean, I liked the idea of them coming before, because they are an awesome band, but I then got to thinking about how well a jazz style would be recieved by the general con population. I thought "nah, there aren't very many fans of their style at the con, I doubt they would be well recieved" until I realized that because of their fusion style, they would be highly accessible to the general con-going population. They can actually put on a really good show (never seen them in person, but from all the live clips and pictures I have seen, they seem great), and they would seriously rock the house. People would be dancing like crazy and it would be one epic concert.

I think that you guys would do well in bringing them out here. I don't know how hard it would be to negotiate with Pony Canyon and U's Music, though, and I don't know much about them personally, as in how willing they are to get together and party with fans, but they seem fun-loving enough, for sure.

I'm still dreaming a silly fangirl's dream of bringing out the perfect music guest (Amano) and somehow coaxing her out of retirement, but it seems highly unlikely. (Try anyway! She won't be writing any more music as Amano Tsukiko, but that doesn't have to mean that she won't do another show.) Maybe we can push for A LUNCH instead? Their punky, fun style would be well loved, and I know that they would be willing to party and put on a great show. They are a small litle project over at Otokura records, you should at least think about it. (Since they are a tiny side project, though, they hardly ever do anything, but would probably come out for a show- I am pretty sure that they aren't disbanded or anything, just put on hold to make room for other projects.)

...Well, I guess it is more to think about. I guess that I'm the crazy music suggestion girl. XD;;

Has anyone heard of "To Destination"? They did the opening song to Yami no Matsuei. Another I would suggest is Kinya Kotani. He did Tsubasa Chronicles and Gravitation.

Also, Rie Fu, who does Life is Like a Boat from Bleach.

Not to point any fingers or anything, but it's a trend looking at this forum/ax/acen/otakons boards semi-regularly about music guests. I really don't like when people name off bands because "they did the op/ed for this one anime!" One song doesn't make a group. And if you like a group/artist for one song, and you want to see them for one song... then something is wrong when you're pushing to invite them as a guest.

Besides the fact that I hate Life is a Boat, most people can't even name other Rie Fu songs. Same with Yuuna for Houki Boushi. As much as I like Houki Boushi(okay not really that much but it is kinda catchy), most people don't know any other songs by Yuuna, nor realize that she's Korean and does quite a bit of Korean music over her very small amount of Japanese music. But a lot of "YUUNA SHOULD GO TO SO AND SO CON!" posts are always made.

I always preferred the MusciFest concerts that sort of went up in degree of music style...

Like the line up of Beautiful Losers to Nami Tamaki, to Duel Jewel, to BLOOD...you know from soft rock/easy listening to J-POP, to J-ROCK, to well you get the point.  I mix of all and keeping in that tempo so people who only care for certain styles had an idea of what time to show up to watch their fave music style.

Utada Hikaru

Miyavi
Gackt
Dir En Grey

I don't know if anyone has heard about Kimeru. He's very talented and does J-Pop/Rock music and has been featured in musicals like TeniMyu and the Japanese version of Pippin! ^_^ He's also collaberated with Daisuke Asakura (TMR's music ring a bell?) and Tetsuya Komuro (Ayu anyone?)... It would be AMAZING if he could come to preform at Fanime Con next year, his crowd interactions are great, he's super cute, and he has an amazing voice!

If you don't know the greatness of Kimeru then:

I would LOVE to see Kime in the US. He's such a wonderful singer with great stage presense! Oh please invite him to come!!! @o@ I think I mentioned this after the 2006 con too haha. XP

I know this will never happen, but I'd love any Johnny's group to come. I doubt it'll ever happen. But if Johnny Kitagawa lets KAT-TUN or NEWS perform state side I would fly anywhere for it!

And I agree with the j-pop notion. I'm more of a poppy person than Hard rock. XP

I'd like to actually seem some up-and-coming bands  :)  Something maybe all of us haven't heard "that one theme song from that anime that's the only song that anyone knows by this band and we've all heard it about a friggin'-million times"   XD  lol

I agree Flow would be cool, and Utada Hikaru is like a far-away dream  (I think you'd need a much-much bigger place if she was going to perform  lol), but yes, she would be fantastic.
I'd also love to see Shiina Ringo.  I think she just did a collab with TOKIO, so she'd be pretty fresh in people's minds too  :)

Style-wise, I can go any way.  I love rock (alternative, heavy metal, punk rock, etc) but I can also go for the poppy stuff like Ootsuka Ai or something a little different.  Onmyo-Za's a pretty cool metal band  :)

Go2 of Initial D fame has been touring a lot lately with Christine (SCP), Pamsy (SCP), Domino and Giorgia V (ABeatC/Go Go's Music) in Italy and other places in Europe, so clearly Avex is open to that much...

I know I push Eurobeat a lot, but perhaps this is an opportunity to bring them over stateside? (And, um... maybe bring more of them over? Go Go's and SCP seem like the best legal bets.)

Maybe X-Japan. Something huge, someone all of us know. Would be great.
I only liked Flow's Colors (Geass Opening 1) , Utada ehh.. nope. I just don't see her coming to a Fan-based con like Fanime.
Sorry, but An Cafe already came and I really don't want to see them back. (I'm not that much of a fan of them.) I like Visual Kei more than Oshire Kei, chances are I spelt it wrong, but yeah you know what i mean.

And Gackt-san is not 'on Haitus', actually he's doing a tour right now in Japan which has like 60 preformances right now.

... You state how you're a J-rock fan, but you only list a very narrow view of it. Visual Kei has practically been dead for a decade almost. A lot of visual-kei bands, dropped the whole visual-kei thing because they realize it's dead.

Honestly, the best band to bring to the states(not just fanime... I meant to a con in general) is Back-On. They're not huge, they did animu music, and most importantly... they're good musically.

Sorry to state this (in general) your favorite band sucks. Seriously. Most JP rock bands suck. Sure you might like them, but musically, they suck. Miyavi... yeah, he's terrible. People only like him because of how he looks. Gackt can sing, too bad he can't write or perform. Etc. etc.

I hate how... people don't listen to music for the music anymore.

You do know visual kei dead right? its been dead for a looong time and those who were probally in visual changed their ways and not considered visual, though oshare kei came from it...its still pretty tasteless
X-Japan wwww they only got together for a touring special if Im correct
Miyavi and the gazette are horrible either their songs sound repeated or its just gobbldy goop
as for FLOW there are other songs out their than just the geass op.
Everyone knew gackt isnt on hiatus he dosent like to be in the public eye

Onmyo-za is an interesting choice to bring to fanime, not only did they do an op for basalisk but they toured in NY (correct me if Im wrong). Yes, I am well aware of it being "Dead" for 10 years or so now.
Now then, I used V-Kei as a type of Rock, you know a label.  I've been into Japanese Music,  my entire life, so I know who's good and not in my opinion. I liked GazettE due to their energy, as the background music. I know their lyrics suck. (Only song I really liked by them is Chizuru. ) Miyavi, Again.. just the music and energy he produces and not the lyrics themselves.
Gackt-san, Music, Lyrics.. just is surprising to me. (I've been a fan of him even when he was in Malice Mizer.) - Proof of that, Friends and cousins were listening to the group and I was like "This is good music, who is this? "And what ya know? It's Malice Mizer." was the response I received.
Most J-rock bands dress Lolita of some sort. Blends old fashions with the new, etc.
More Gothic Looking.
As for Oshire, I used that to describe groups like An CAFE for an example.

Uhm... so you've liked JP music for a long time, and that some how proves you know quality, even though you say something quite contradictory to it... no more than two sentences longer?

You've been into Gackt since Malice Mizer was together... good for you. Malice Mizer were never really good. They have a few songs that are pretty well done, but as the whole, most of their music was pretty bad. Actually, I don't even get the point of this post you made. What are you trying to say?

QuoteMost J-rock bands dress Lolita of some sort. Blends old fashions with the new, etc.

And this more than anything shows you don't know anything. Most J-Rock bands do NOT dress anything like that. Most J-Rock bands dress... like rock bands do. Very very very very few bands like that dress in anything remotely gothic. You're pointing at an extremely small genre, the left over of last decade. Even last decade, most of the rock bands didn't.

In other words...

Open your horizons. You've been listening to JP music for a long time? Yeah, but clearly you've listened to a very limited amount of it.

I am actually pushing for J-pop this year.  I feel Fanime is more of a J-pop convention than anything else.  Anyone else care to agree or disagree?

Ebner
The blamable one

:D MusicFest and I will take your opinion into consideration for bands. I know my staff is monitoring all the threads related to the bands very closely and have been working hard behind the scenes to make things possible for this upcoming Fanime.

So keep those suggestions coming!

A little late to reply to this (because I never check this section), but I agree, some J-Pop would be nice.

On a similar note, I realized something by going to AX this year.  I gave up on going to the Fanime MusicFest a couple years back because it simply didn't interest me enough.  On the other hand, I went to every concert @AX and enjoyed them.  Why?  Because they featured anime music.  Nakagawa Shouko and Jyukai's concerts had a heavy emphasis on their music for Gurren Lagann, Fate/stay night, and Aa! Megami-sama.  Then there was Ishida Yoko, who, for all intents and purposes, is only an anime artist.  Although I say I am a fan of JP music, I admit that I haven't kept up with it very well in recent years.  I have, however, watched a lot of anime and know a lot of anime music.  As a fan of anime music, I think it'd be cool to go to a concert at the con for said music.

DDD:.  I agree with all of the above.

First off, the whole "dressing lolita" is called visual kei.  It's not lolita, it's visual kei.  Second off, it's oshare kei.  I've noticed that everyone who says they are huge fans of J-rock (visual kei in particular), say they like Malice Mizer and Miyavi.  -facepalm-

Fixed for you.

I don't even understand the point of your post now. It sounds like, you're agreeing with the guy's post, then put up contrary things about it.

I'm a huge fan of J-Rock. I like maybe, 3 Malice Mizer songs, and know that Miyavi is a talentless egomaniac.

so you are saying all lolita is just visual kei?

wow...someone needs to go back to j-fashion school and get slapped by three mooks of the gothic and lolita bibles. Lolita is a fashion people who dress lolita in the music biz pretty much lolita fashion still

Lolita is still lolita NOT visual kei, its like if i called punk goth because they all wear black and shat.

I honestly don't care what you think.
I have opened up my Horizons very much, thank you.

I have been speaking my own opinion of things, like you.
I don't need to be corrected.

If you seriously want to know all the people/groups I have heard:
Here is a grand list for you. I did not go to any sites for these groups, seriously I have heard them all and I have many songs of theirs on my iPod and computer itself.

You obviously do care, or you wouldn't flash your e-peen with a huge list of hodgepodged stuff. I've listened to most of those groups, and more as well. I don't have most of them on my iPod, nor my computer, because... quite a lot of them suck ass. You listen to Leah Dizon? Because man... she's such an amazing singer... wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I could line item most of it and talk crap about your taste in music, but there's no point in doing so.

And most importantly, it doesn't change what you said before as being completely false.

Your list is interesting though... in a analysis point of view. What I mean by that, for the most part, you can name any "popular" band and they're on that list. But some really popular bands aren't. I.E. Luna Sea, X-Japan, Hide/Hide W. Spread Beaver. Then you mix that in with a lot of animu musics that's in there. What's great though, is how many bands on that list, that contradict everything you said earlier.

Just in case you forgot you said...

QuoteMost J-rock bands dress Lolita of some sort. Blends old fashions with the new, etc.
More Gothic Looking.
Here, I'll list, the SUPER SUPER SUPER well known rock bands you listed that don't.

* Whiteberry
   * UVERworld
    * Tokio
* Southern All Stars
    * Sex Machineguns
*Radwimps
  *Pornograffiti
  *Mr. Children
   *Mihimaru GT

To hell with this, this is taking too long. Just to let you know. The bigger bands on your list(in terms of actual popularity) do not fit what you say. In comparison, the ones that do, are very very very small comparatively.

Though, looking at your list reminds me of a lot of music I used to listen to... in the early/mid 90's.

wwwwwwwwwwww Sharam Q...

I don't need to be corrected.

yeah you do.

Your list... is a mix bag of mainstream stuff from the last decade or two. Looking at that list, I don't see an identity nor any structure of what you call taste from you. It seems like you just listed whatever the hell you felt like listening just because it was Japanese. I mean, let's look at your list. You said The Candies, then then I see The Alfee, and then 3nin Matsuri then you state Gazette is your favorite band. You obviously have no idea what you are even talking about. And bringing that "Hey their lyrics sucks" don't cut it, because I'm sure you don't even know what they are singing about. I don't even know what to say, the fact that you state Gazette, Miyavi and SuG (lol) is on your list, but X Japan or LUNASEA are not? I'm surprised that you even know who The Blue Hearts are. Well maybe you don't, you probably just threw it on there because you heard 1 single. I could keep going, there's just too much, so I'll stop here.

Thank you. I was trying to give suggestions and this year was my first time ever posting in this forum and then a bunch of children jump on top of me as if I was trying to bash their music tastes, etc. Like I don't know what the hell I'm talking about, etc.

I was just opening up my own opinions of things, I could care less on how accurate I am on things,
because I am usually naive on these types of topics.

I'd love to suggest COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS.

- They contributed their song, h/s/k/s to the GREATFUL SOUND ~tribute to "BECK" CD and their songs were featured in the anime BECK episode 16

- Narasaki, the leader, started a side project Sadesper Record. Their song, Torso, is in the Boogipop Phantom OST

- Narasaki provided the music for Paradise Kiss

- Narasaki produced the first and second opening theme song for Sayonara Zestubou Sensei working with Kenji Ohtsuki from Tokusatsu

- Narasaki provided some of the music for the movie Master of Thunder

- Narasaki provided the ending theme for the movie Aquarian Age II- this song was under the name Goro Watari- Narasaki's alias

- Narasaki provided the music for the drama スミレ16歳!! (Sumire 16!! aka 16 year old Sumire!!)

- Narasaki is also in a side project band called, RUNAWAY BOYS with Kyo (D'ERLANGER). They performed at BUCK-TICK's On Parade Festival 2007.

- Narasaki produced and provided guitar for toroi merai and shirokuronikuru for Plastic Tree
  - Akira of Plastic Tree is sometimes the support member for Coaltar of the Deepers as well.

- Narasaki produced shion for MUCC

- lynch.: same as above
- Girugamesh: playing @ Sakura-con
- Sugar: playing @ Oni-con
- heidi.: supposed to be playing at that h.naoto event?
- Sel'm: if you like any of the bands above, be sure to give these guys a try

I think these bands would be eager to play abroad and I would be amazed if just one of these bands came to Fanime, or any combination therein.  :)

Some other bands I'd suggest... since everyone's offering Japanese bands, here are some other Asian ones that are really popular right now:

- Wonder Girls (they're debuting in USA in 09)
- DBSK
- Big Bang
- Lee Hyori

They tanked after Juka left =\ but they didnt start very well to begin with. Anyway as I remember Mana just got off his ban with Sony Music so hes probally gonna be busy busting out a new CD plus hes promoting Kannon Wakeshima arround since shes the first female on his label. Plus I dont think Mana took too well with US fans when he came to AX ^^;; I heard about the crazy storys like this one girl that asked to marry him and what not, he didnt seem too happy about that.

I doubt Asian Kung Fu Generation would come because they're kinda too big of a band for Fanime XD Although I really would love to see them come. They're my absolute favorite band. If AKG is not possible, I suggest bands such as Eastern Youth, Art School, The Back Horn, and redballoon. They're all great J Rock bands. I would of suggested ELLEGARDEN but they're broken up if I'm not mistaken?

Elle is on "break". AKG is more about getting their contact and if their producers will do so. AKG isn't exactly a big band, despite what animu nerds think. Comparatively they're small compared to a lot of other bands(even Bump of Chicken is technically bigger than them now).

Knowing what I do about what's happening with AX and Otakon's guest relations... AKG would be... kinda small ^^.

But they're hardly a band that I really want to see. I see them as the same way I see Orange Range. If you release a looooooooooooooooooooooooooot of stuff... eventually you'll release something good. The inconsistency in their music and style makes me think they do it just to be popular over writing music that's good.

I think as of right now... the band I would promote the most to be a guest(that isn't already going to a different con this year that I know about)... is Bump of Chicken. 2007/2008 were huge years for them as they released a major album, and their songs were used to promote a lot of major movies released those years. So their in a slower time right now, but still doing things. They did the Tales of the Abyss OP and are nerds themselves. They're a big well-known group but they're not media whores or anything like that.

i wanna see BoA she has recently debuted in the u.s. and she'd be perfect for musicfest she is a majorly big singer all over asia and would  she would get many people to come and watch her perform and if theres an autograph signings dont make it a requirement to get an autograph ticket when its unfair that only a limited amout of people gets to have an autograph

Well I would think an autograph ticket would be easier to maintain line control look what it did for an cafe sure alot of people didnt get a ticket for autograph but hey its not the end of the world. Realize that artists get tired their hands cramp after signing a certain amount of things so thats why there is usually a ticket or cap for a number of people to see an artist. Musicfest artist usually have autograph signings for like a certain hour. But sometimes they will go out of their way to get an extra hour for their fans because they love them. But its also up to their management as well since they make the deal with fanimecon for the artist to come to the US

Let's bring over something that we've NEVER brought over to Music Fest. I propose....

DEATH JAZZ

Okay, maybe there's a reason why we've never brought something like that before, but bear with me here. The band that I'm suggesting is Soil & "Pimp" Sessions , a relatively new jazz ensemble from Japan. Yeah, they did ONE anime song (for Michiko to Hatchin), but that's not why I think they'd great here. After watching many youtube videos, the energy they possess for live shows is insane, but that's not too hard to expect when one of the band member's title is "Agitator". Yeah, there's a guy who doesn't play anything and just screams. I'd feel sorry for the band who has to compete with THAT energy. I don't think they're TOO hard to get, but if we somehow get The Seatbelts too, the potential for a godly jam session. :D

Here's a sample of them live:

How could you NOT want to be there?! :D

Is it too late to put my two cents in?  I would also like to see BOA and/or Wonder Girls.  Also, Melody (but I heard that she retired or is retiring). Lastly, Hangry & Angry.  They're going to be at the Sakura-con on April 10-12, 2009.  They were just formed this year and are former members of Morning Musume (most people on this forum will probably say "No way!" or stronger language, but oh well)  They do more rock than the pop that Morning Musume does.
Title: Nerdcore for Music Fest
Post by: deonchan on December 22, 2008, 11:26:40 AM
Ok honest opinions please. Do you think that nerdcore would go over well at fanime? There are a few pretty decent nerdcore groups around the bay and from what I've seen Fanime likes to have at least 1-2 local acts at Musicfest?

What say you? Would it work? Would it not? Why or why not?

Lolita23q I think would be incredible to see perform live!<3

Would love to see PENICILLIN.....yeah, I'd also like to see Plastic Tree...Though, I personally wouldn't mind AnCafe coming back ^.~

UVERWORLD.

UVERWORLD.

UVERWORLD.

Please do not bring over: MUCC, Dir en grey, D'espairsRay, or The Underneath. :)

Honestly people, these bands tour the US ALL THE TIME. And if you missed them that's too bad. Catch them around next year because they WILL BE BACK. Give bands that have not had the chance to perform overseas the Fanime spotlight, and PLEASE do not bring a band that has already made their mark here. MUCC and Dir en grey especially. They've came, conquered, and they'll do it all over again soon.

My other nods would be to SuG, BREAKERZ, ONE OK ROCK, Aqua Timez and GReeeeN... Admittedly, not all of these bands are anime con material. Out of those I would highly recommend SuG because they exude the anime con atmosphere (though they drop the f-bomb a lot in a few recent songs!), ONE OK ROCK because their jams go over well with any crowd, and Aqua Timez for both reasons.

GReeeeN is probably the biggest "new" band in Japan at the moment. As of current rankings they're #1 on JP billboard charts. Fat chance XD

And their guitarist is from San Francisco.  I think that would be a pretty cool band to have over at Fanime.  They're not too big either, to my knowledge.  Then again, that might be a downfall.  Do you think people would even be interested?  I wonder.

I'm WELL aware of that. I just personally really like them and that's why they were suggested. :P

On a more realistic level, Perfume (bubbly electronic female trio) would be a welcome musical act, but I still think UVERworld, ONE OK ROCK, Aqua Timez or SuG should suffice. A lot of the artists I'd suggest are geared more towards venue not con atmosphere.

I think people would be interested, girls especially. Hence why I think SuG or Nightmare / Sendai Komatsu or v(NEU) would go over pretty well with an anime convention. Visual bands just tend to fit into that nitch better than other bands generally. But... UVERworld and Aqua Timez have quite a few anime openings and endings to their name. To me they seem the most fitting... Maybe toughest to get.

You also know then, that they don't do live performances. Hell, no one even knows what they look like, because they all just graduated from dentistry school, so until they have it cleared with their future employers, and their lives are settled, they aren't going to ever appear in public.

This was suggested back on page 2, but I would like to have several bands that catered to all different tastes in music. An Cafe was wonderful and I'm sure many people came to Fanime just to see them, but I missed being introduced to new bands like the year before.

I really enjoyed Mothercoat. They were there in 06 I believe and they were so much fun. So much energy! Z Z also. I had to miss them last year cause I had so much to do on Thursday. Ramen and Rice always go over well with fans.

I also second on having jazz this year at Fanime because I just got into that recently ;D
That of something like bitpop or techno ;D
So, I second on SOIL & "PIMP" Sessions ;D
(here's a link to Michiko to Hatchin op just in case some haven't heard it yet ;)

Is it only limited to artists who did an anime op/ed or any in general? :-[
I assuming it is just because they can be more recognized at Fanime then if they aren't

Yes. Jazz + Fanime = <3 We really need to bring this genre into the con.

I still vote for JiLL-Decoy association or paris match. Jiru would probably put on a more fun and upbeat show but can be a bit strange in their musical choices (what was up with that second album of theirs?). PM is a lot smoother, but would still put on a very enjoyable and fun show, plus they have more music (they have been around longer, after all), so only the very best would be heard. They do have very upbeat and fun music and would put on a great show, too, but not in the same was as Jiru.

Orange Pekoe would be another great choice, and I enjoy (recordings of) their live performances better than some of their studio work.

That's why I vote SOIL and Pimp Sessions, because falling asleep during a bout of Death Jazz would mean that you are either deaf or dead on the inside. Their jazz is reportedly more 'violent' than the rest of the jazz artists out there, so good luck doing anything aside from rocking out.

I'm not really that big into the J-pop and J-rock scene, but perhaps someone like Nightmare?

I dunno the actual logistics involved with bringing a band over, so I have no idea if this is too late, or they're too popular, or what not. I just find I tend to enjoy bands that sound similar to that, so I'm sure others do as well.

Regardless of what happens, I'm looking forward to being introduced to a new group this coming year. :3

Dude, I'd love to see God of Shamisen again since you guys are willing. I saw your album at Kinokuniya and I was thinking "Damn, they're too good to play for us anymore." Now that you guys are making the scene in Japan, it'd be pretty awesome to see you guys again. The last show was one of my highlights that year. : )

Hey SatoshiS  thanks! It really was a blast for us all. We did just do a new album for major label in Japan, and our hoping to tour there this year! (That would be so amazing!)

I would skip work and go see them and Rock out with my Death Note in one hand, and my Death Note keychain in the other. ;D

It's probably impossible for the guys in charge to book them but that would be my dream to see them at least once.
Once that happenes, this former gang member turned anime fan can finally be at peace with my past.

It's not really impossible to book them. It's not like they're some huge group or anything, they're pretty small realistically.

Though it's sad that you'd bring your "Death Note" and keychain like that. You act as if those are the only songs they've done. I feel sorry for bands that are "only popular because they did an anime op". Because it's proof of their failure.

Well, those 2 songs did get me to like Japanese music. But I also like their other songs like Koi No Mega Lover and Rolling1000toon.
I like most of their songs so watching them would be a dream for me. And the skinny dude's voice is awsome.

Go2, or Fastway and Ace of Initial D.
They've been doing gigs in Italy, alongside Domino (Parapara Paradise, "Mickey Mouse March", along with countless others) and Giorgia V (famous Italian cosplayer and Eurobeat singer). Perhaps Avex would be willing to extend their reach to places in which their iTunes albums could stand the boost in popularity, in a venue that is more than willing to accept them?

Ok I'm going to go a little crazy with this idea I vote the Wonder Girls.  They are trying to break into the US and doing some shows on the East/West coast so it is a possibility

My other wishes is Pay Money for My Pain and Glory Hill

About the Boa comment  she is going to be a guest performer at Kollaboration in L.A. http://www.kollaboration.org/Tickets/Los-Angeles/Khype-Tickets.html (http://www.kollaboration.org/Tickets/Los-Angeles/Khype-Tickets.html)  My guess is she may do one or two songs and that's it. So if  you really love BoA and live in the area there is your chance to see her up close.

Miyavi, SuG, the GazettE, LM.c, Kagrra, Gackt, HYDE or An Cafe. Pretty sure An Cafe won't be back here though. Give us jrock musicians again, please !!

BoA and Utada Hikaru, too. Oh and maybe Kokusyoku Sumire. 8D Yeahh.

(first time on fanime boards in a while, sorry if I say/do something...incorrect?)

I also support the idea of Bringing Utada Hikaru if that were ever doable. (you'd think speaking english so well she would've come here already ;A;?)
but for jpop:

Riyu Kosaka (Love Shine in DDR plus other songs)

idk where Gollbetty would fit in but they're a really good band, no idea what genre though, definitely not your average band and a good middle ground to have.

Nega would be for all the jrock fans :3 they're really good and fairly unknown, however they're in the undercode label........e_e

Well... although I'm pretty new to anime conventions, I've been a loyal fan of J-Pop music for some time; and if you're willing to consider it, I'd like to recommend a certain music group that could play at FanimeCon 2009.

They're a duo named Halcali. They're not particularly famous but have been steadily gaining notoriety in the last few years. The two are a pretty fun and spirited group, with their songs focusing on pop, hip-hop, or some combination of the two. Halcali's tracks have been featured in several animes ("Tip Taps Tip", 3rd ending theme in Eureka Seven / "Long Kiss Good Bye", 7th ending theme in Naruto Shippuden, etc) and they've been performing at various anime conventions worldwde.

You can see an example of their on-stage performance here (it's a clip from a recent concert):
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=EB5186DCE55559C3&playnext=1 (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=EB5186DCE55559C3&playnext=1)

Or if it's more relevant, you can see them performing at an anime expo (this one in New York) here:
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=9E77441A69110726&playnext=1 (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=9E77441A69110726&playnext=1)

If this group interests you, please consider inviting them to the FanimeCon this year. They said in an interview (this one to be precise *link* (http://www.nt2099.com/J-ENT/INTERVIEWS/HALCALI/halcali.pdf)) that they are interested in visiting other cities of the U.S., just send them an invite. And that's why I'm posting this today... in the hopes that Chicago's and New York's conventions aren't the only ones picking up Halcali, but something closer to my California home.

I do think this group is personable and fun enough to make a great stage presence at Fanime's concerts, and that their music is upbeat and unique enough to keep attendees talkin' and blogging about the experience long after the expo. Although I'm not sure how seriously you can take the word of an obviously-biased fanboy like me ;D, I do really think they'd fit in great here. Hope you consider it.  :)

haha yeah im pretty suprised that someone didnt know, it was kinda big well Daishi got arrested on meth charges and it lead to the band breaking up due to "musical differences" which people assume it was a coverup for his meth bust. But alot of the members have done solo projects Lida and Yura-Sama are in a group called DACCO and Aya and Seek are in a group together but their name escapes me. I do not know if they are still active and Im not sure what happened to Daishi since he had a solo career but it kinda just poofed.

There really were musical differences. That wasn't a lie. Not saying DAISHI's problem didn't play a role, it just wasn't the only cause of the breakup.

AYA and seek's band is called Mix Speaker's Inc and DAISHI's band is called The ROMEO. The ROMEO is actually very active. Lida also had a brief side project from DACCO with michi. of SQF called michi. with Mach LiDARZ and Yura-sama is participating in the session band BROTHER with members of DOREMIdan, ex-Shelly Trip Realize/TINC, & ex-Guy's Family.

Psycho le Cemu are also reuniting for a 3 date 10th Anniversary concert series in June featuring a new theme and new costumes and all 5 members are very happy to be doing it and very excited about it.

First of all alot of people know about Alice 9, Im pretty sure you arent the only one going OMG CAN WE HAS ARISU NINE PLZ.

Second you sound like a snob, just because people listen to the songs and dont know any japanese doesnt mean they cant listen to them. Hell back in 02 I listened to dir en grey and I didnt know any japanese, yet there are cute things on the internet called Translations which many can read if they dont know the language. Are you really the first to know about Gazette? (I liked it when it was Just Gazette not the retardo E and the The) like where you there when they started playing their first gigs? You cant really verify that same with Dir en Grey, I mean everyone has the right to listen to whatever they want regardless of the language barrier, I dont know korean yet I still listen to Se7en and Rain that doesnt really stop me now does it?

Dir en Grey got big because they realized how big the fandom is in the west, they signed an american record deal and now tour once in a while. Once a Japanese star notices their fandom in the west, they jump on it. Because usually they have more fans than they do in Japan

we have 3 mystery guests comming to fanime, might as well wait and see what happens Plus fanime has to make a contract with the managment and some managements usually ask for x amount of money or it depends if they will be releasing an album or having a tour within fanimes time frame. Like People want An Cafe back but they are touring in the US anyway

I am sorry if I come off as harsh, I am extremly tired from doing a 12 page dissertation and semi-sick so I am a bit crabby

see i like bands that not TOO many people knmow about. I mean, as far as i know i was one of the first people around me that knew about The GazettE and Dir En Grey... now like it seems every one knows them. before people just looked at me funny. I mean even people who DONT know Japanese are all like "OMG GAZETTE! <3" or like "OMG DIR EN GREY<3" its like -.- do you even know any of the songs "@.@ no"

I think that Alice Nine should show up before they get too big. i mean they are a good band... XP i think they should go and play at FanimeCon one year..
the bolded part makes you a tool.  you're an anti-bandwagon bandwagoner.  and why would you want "your" band to play at fanime when that'll make it "everyone's" band?  i thought you like bands a lot of people don't know?  wouldn't that make them mainstream if all the people you hate so much hear them, and thus ruin what you like about them?  You either want their careers to blow up and they become mainstream or you keep them to yourself and their career never blossoms. pick one.  You can't have both.

grats you were 1 of the 1st to know those bands, have a cookie.  Oh no, they don't speak japanese, the horror.  I'm not fluent myself either, and I do think the songs are even better when I understand them (i only can catch 1/4 of what they say).  You can't, however, deny that jpop/rock sounds good.  If it sounds good, why not listen to it?  Isn't that the point of songs? American rap/hip-hop lyrics for the most part make little to no sense, but they sound good so we listen to it.  Most americans don't understand foreign languages, but other countries produce good songs and we listen to it.

Get off your anti-bandwagon now.  it's more toolish than the people you're criticizing.

I like a lot of bands not too many people knew about too... only... I liked... Good bands most people didn't know about. What'd I do? I told people about them. I told all of my friends, and spread them out.

Like Akiakane. Hell, seeing that they never really released anything, and are truly indies(they've played more shows in bars in Europe than they have real shows). Do I think I'm awesome for knowing them before anyone else? I've liked Ellegarden since their My Own Destruction. Most people in the US never heard of them until AFTER they went on hiatus(PS they're off hiatus). Does that make me cool? I pimped the hell outta them to my friends. Porno Graffiti since '99. L'arc since '92. Glay Since '92. Radwimps since Album 3. Luna Sea since '93. Penicillin in '96.

etc. etc. etc.

That means, I'm totally cooler than you.

Right?

RIGHT?

TTLY~

-_-

Basically, you want Alice Nine before they get too big so you can go "Dude, I totally liked this band for a while now, way before they came to fanime" then start hating on all the new Alice Nine fans and call them bandwagoners. So you can hold up a badge of honor as if "knowing them before" makes you some how... cool?

They would bring even more wonder and color with their upbeat rock/electric pop.

They will already be in the United States May 29-31 for a performance at A-Kon 20, only a few days after Fanime concludes, which would be convenient for the band's travel, and acceptance of invitation.

okay I am so totally for a band that can be at con and talk to us laidback like !!!

so I would love to see some really HARD-ROCK bands come and play I think they are undervalued and would be really exciting and engaging

as for suggestions someone like these

Despair's ray (my favorite band)
http://www.despairsray.jp/ (official website)
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=EE4768BEA5D2081E (videos)

BLOOD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1qbfy9DaR0&feature=channel_page

Dio
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=F1F1CFCF31484B7A

Nightmare
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=06A0A6A7D6B4B15F

Dir en Grey
no need to link them >.>

miyavi or HYDE would be awesome too but I doubt it will happen

but I really want Despair's Ray!! *begs*

anyone with music in this style *is sick of pop*

or if you're adventourous  Psycho Le Cemu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBfFZGBtvYA

or maybe we can have tokio hotel? I know german band +anime dosen't exactly go together but as long as I'm putting up *in your dreams never happen* bands up like miyavi..... >>
not that miyavi is a band...

so yeah I would like to see the hard-rock genre represented please <3

BLOOD broke up :(

They had their last tour this year. They came to Fanime in 2003 and 2004 but apparently had a bad experience in 2004 with Fanime so even if they had been still together the likelihood of them coming back to Fanime would have been slim.

I don't think I posted here yet so. . .

I'd totally loveee to see The GazettE, but I doubt that could happen, since An Cafe came last year. xD

We should get BACK-ON to come ~ !

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=1000472592 (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfile&friendID=1000472592)

They did the opening to Air Gear and Eyeshield 21(I think).
They did a show at Anime USA, and according to PURPLE sky, they'd like to come back to the US.
I don't think they're very popular yet, and they have a Rock / Hip-hop beat sorta like Linkin Park.
And maybe it's just were I live, but alot of people into anime are also into Hip-hop music. (Besides J-rock/pop and whatnot)

So yeah, we should totally get BACK-ON to come. I l.o.v.e them xD

Gee, way to fucking sterotype. :\
Not everyone suggests the same band or claims it as their own. So what if a lot of people happen to like the same band and happen to also be American? Why does that matter?
Sure, some people are like that and try to be special. But pinning it on American fans is uncalled for.
You're not elite because you like different bands and aren't American. As you said, "get over yourself".

hey btw the forums are pg 13 so dont use the Fbomb up in this place (I think byo /b/ is the only exception)

Actually its not just bands people claim band members too like when I was waiting for an cafe (lol) alot of girls were all OMG MIKUUU IS MAH HUSBANDO!!!111 stuff like that it gets kinda bad when a member has a girlfriend or gets married and plots very terrible ways to break them up or even kill their significant other =\ fans like that give the fandom a bad name

Jrock fandom is kinda elitist know it, also it is true most people either suggest the same bands (Gazette, An Cafe, Alice Nine, Dir en Grey, ect). I majority of these people who claim the fandom are infact American fans (I used to mod an old forum that was pretty much all american j-rock fans being special snowflakes, lucky for me that site is gone)

Im kind of an older member of the jrock fandom but I havent really listene to it much since its pretty lackluster unless you count buck-tick (cause they be awesome!)

WTH, why not....  Second for Keichi Tsuchiya....   He can play a song with the engine note of a NSX-R or with those weird musical tires that Advan released.

I agree the concert should not be at the sametime as the Black and white dance.

As far as who should sing at the concert, I still think Ramen and Rice should open and then Yoko Ishida should be the main event.

Ishida has sung the theme songs for various series, including Sailor Moon R, Ah! My Goddess, and Shakugan no Shana, as well as the songs on the Para Para Max cd's.

Oh my other suggestion... if Yoko Ishida is not available is:Orange Range
Besides there long history of being a wonderful band in japan with many many hits.
their songs have apeared in: Bleach (TV), Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 (TV), Naruto (TV), and Densha Otoko (live-action movie).

Maximum the hormone would be amazing...

however Flow and the Pillows would be just as good.

There is one band that comes across my mind.

Radwimps. The lead singer is very fluent in English, they even have some songs in english as well. Not sure how well known they are, or if obtaining them is even possible.

I recommend Far East Movement. They're stateside, but I'm not quite sure where in the states are they located.

And in my dreams, I recommend Fantastic Plastic Machine and Pizzicato Five.

I haven't been really seriously following Japanese popular music for a while now (5+ years?), so my suggestion are not only probably not relevant in terms of current trends (it also is  really close to the event now so how would this matter anyway?).  I will post my sort of "dream" line up:

Yellow Magic Orchestra (I would pay over $100 for this event alone)
Pizzicato 5
The Brilliant Green
The Pillows
Cornelius
SION
Blankey Jet City (might have spelling wrong)
Bump of Chicken
Yokko Kano
Buffalo Daughter

I know a lot of these fall under the "yeah, right." category, but wow fanime would become so damn epic if any one of them would come play it.  As far as past music fests go having Swinging Popsicles was by far my favorite fanime music-fest experience, bar-none.

I totally Second the brilliant green!!!! I would love for them to be at Fanime, plus they're a brand new band so they would probably agree to it sense they need more media attention!!

HJHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH HAHAHHAHAHAHAAHHAHA HAH AHAH AHAH AH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

The Brilliant Green is new?

The Brilliant Green just got back together a year and a half ago, they formed a looooooooooong time ago. Tomoko is the lead singer. She went single(which officially killed The Brilliant Green) and became Tommy February. Then Tommy Heavenly. Then they got back together.

Man... I remember loving "There Will Be Love..." back in like... 96. It was sorta old by then too.

Oh my god, I'd seriously have a fangasm if The Brilliant Green came! I've been like obsessed with them ever since I found out about them after hearing Ash Like Snow in Gundam 00. They're so awesome! Tomoko's solo projects are great too. Well, I only like a few songs from tommyfebruary, but I love most of tommyheavenly's songs.
QuoteMan... I remember loving "There Will Be Love..." back in like... 96. It was sorta old by then too.
Actually they formed in 1997. They went on hiatus in 2002 when Tomoko went and did her solo projects, and they made a comeback a couple years ago. However, it's been a long time since their last single, Ash Like Snow. I hope they're not on hiatus again. I want a new album. =/

But anyway, Tomoko Kawase coming to Fanime would be the best thing ever. There's probably less than a 1% chance of it happening, but hey, I can dream, right?

Pizzicato 5

They probably warrant their own venues, nevermind Fanime. :'D I'd totally hit that, mang.

bless4 is cool. They're practically American.

Practically? They ARE American. They're from Arizona IIRC. Impossible to get though. Disney owns them. Disney +animu in the US don't really mix.

I don't know if anyone has thrown this name out here (and I'm sure she'd be impossible to get but)  think Miliyah Kato would be a great artist to get.
