Title: GTL's 1337 Tutorial setup
Post by: Blues on April 17, 2005, 04:41:23 AM
Now that things are starting to get to a point where people are really getting stoked about the upcoming Fanime, I figure it's about time to start getting discussions going for this year's GTL show.

Thus far, I think I have a pretty good show planned out, but I'm not above taking suggestions from future attendants as to what you'd like to see.

Keep in mind that suggestions have to be within legal and physical feasibility, which rules out things like blowing up computers on stage or quadruple backflips out of the rafters, though that would be pretty sweet...

Anyway, consider this your virtual suggestion box for all things GTL at Fanime.  Happy posting.

I missed the show last year (due to unenlightenment of Megatokyo) - is there a video or something I can download? ^_^

I saw the many images on the GTL site, though...looked fun, so I'm hoping to come to this year's panel and have a laugh ^_^

We didn't get a video last year, but it's a priority for this year's show.  The camera man I have seems like he's pretty reliable; I had someone record a show at Otakon on year, and he never got back to me with anything...

Yeah, that was me from last year's GTL.

*whispers to Miho cosplayer* psst...walk up to him and knock 'im out...then we could have a Great Robot Ping worship panel...;)

Will the video be made available for download, or do we have to buy a copy? And if we have to buy it, how much will it cost?

I'll be putting the video up online at www.GTLproject.com (http://www.gtlproject.com), along with snapshots.

I want to be Dom again! ^^

We need to see if Largo (in MT) is still a "Great Teacher" by then. Right now, it's iffy.

Heheh... I keep getting a funny image of a Gallagher-like segment where Largo destroys objects that he deems as "obsolete".

But of course, I'd suggest supplying the first few rows with ponchos if that was ever a possible event ^^;

Holy crap, people are actually posting in this thread already?

Basically, the way it works is if Fanime has a place for the GTL show, it'll be there.  I've already started work on the new show for this year, and hopefully we'll even be able to pull it off WITHOUT 2 dozen technical problems in a row...

The casting call is going out again this year.  The roles of Ed, Dom, and Miho are reserved for the same people as last year, if they're still interested (and I see at least one of them is).  Aside from those, the main role I'm looking to fill this year is Junpei.

If anyone is interested, please PM me.

Hey, it's been a while Blues. Thought you passed out and been in a coma in a hospital (due to an overdose of b33r).

Yup, hopefully, next time around won't be so filled with technical goodies. I'll keep my role, and I'll try to being along one of my new...toys...for Fanime next year. Sorry people, but this one I'm keeping hidden.

Yeah, I've been around, but mainly on the GTL boards; I forget about this place sometimes...

Hmmm... I might be able to use a Piro (I haven't really written any of the "script" for this year's upcoming show, I've just been focusing on what's going to be in the actual panel).

Send me a PM with some pics of the costume, or some other cosplay you've done in the past.

Hey, this is the loud-mouthed tennis girl from last year. I was at both shows, and I wanted to say that if they don't have room for you at Fanime this year I will riot. Loudly. With signs and ph33rbots. Out of everything I did last year GTL and DerCosplay were the best, in my opinion, and i waited in line for hours for both. Also, dude, any help you need just drop me a line, I'll do what I can this year, okay? If I have to I'll organize an online petition to get your panel back (if they try to drop it.). ;-)

If there's one on-going theme to the GTL show, it's throwing shit together the day before...

And I've just been struck with an idea of how to do it... I don't know if I'm a genius, or just a lunatic...

Dom: i accidentally shot ed in the face. so?
reporter: but is it true that you had alcohol before the incident?
Dom: yea, but ed dared me to. my reputation was on the line, man! what would you do in a situation like that? huh??? 8)

It's 1am, so I have only perused one possibility...

On a recent rant on MT, Piro mentioned a book dealing with webcomics, and that he and his site were mentioned as one of seven or so that influenced development of webcomics. But he gives credit also to Largo because his vision of MT was more "webcomic" than his own. So perhaps if we were to dwelve further into "what makes a webcomic", it could work as a GTL lesson?

It wouldn't be a Fanime GTL show without you, Koneko.

In other news, in order to try and avoid near riot-stirring questions like "Mac or PC?", I'm seriously conisdering changing the Q&A session at the end of the show to a more focused discussion, such as webcomics, like NachoManLance suggested.

Any other topics you might want to see covered?

I posted the link to the GTL video with that 'event' a while ago. ^_^

As far as the GTL press conference/class/Q&A/etc topics:
-MMR (Mosh Mosh Revolution)
-PPXX (Punished Pinion XX)
-Super Moe-Moe Ball
-A l33t guide to anime conventions
-Game controller control
-Japanese game shows
-A l33t gamer diet: milk & ramen, b33r, spaghetti, Anna Miller's, etc
-Secrets of E3, GDC, TGS (Fanime and GDC was held at the same place)
-Getting access to the events above

That is, if Largo is still a 'teacher' by Fanime...

Koneko:
Well, yeah.  that's part of it.  And you have to admit that that was one of the highlights of the first show; I don't think it would have been half as much of a success without you.

Besides, what a GTL without a Miho?

Otakuya:
Some of those would be good ideas for lessons as part of the show (infact, I might use one or two AND NOT GIVE YOU ANY CREDIT HAR HAR HAR).  What I'm looking for here is a subject based in "reality" that can be openly discussed.  It doesn't even have to pertain to Megatokyo, so long as it's about some sort of related culture.
