*Why is the "Masquerade" called "Cosplay Spectacular" now? At first I thought they had completely done away with "Masquerade" until I read the info about the Cosplay Spectacular. Although, after seeing the massive line outside for it, I didn't bother going.

I could probably answer this one for you~
Well, we have been calling it the Masquerade, but this name gets very confusing for people interested in the Black & White Ball. I have dozens of people ask me "what's the difference between them?" Also, when you are standing in line, and you say "Masquerade," people that do not know the different will either look at you confused, or respond happily before joining the line... only to realize an hour later that they weren't in line for their Ball afterall... With all the confusion, a name-change had become the best alternative.

The lack of close-by food - My mother insists on real food when we go to conventions, which meant that this time we were constantly spending way too much time trying to find food, time which could have been better spent actually seeing stuff at the con.  ^.^;;
I don't want to reply to this thread but this one bothers me. There's like 18 restaurants all withing 10 minutes of walking. Price ranging from 3$-150$. All kinds of food of all kinds of types. I am honestly baffled by this comment. I ate Pita Pit, Iguana's, Subway, Pizza My Heart all for under 6$ a meal and all of them were filling and good for me. I also went to a number of nice sit down restaurants for dinner. Do a little research, there are a lot of places to eat around the convention.
I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh at this. PyronIkari is right! Not only is there a HUGE abundance of places to eat, but there is a Safeway less than 2 minutes walking from the Fairemont. If you have a problem finding nearby food, go your hotel's front desk, and ask about nearby places to eat. Usually, the person at the front desk will pull out a map, and circle the places nearby you can eat at. If you would rather not do this, just ask someone at the con. Many of us live around the area, so we would be happy to point you to a good place to eat. I got a huge amount of food at the nearby Baja Fresh for under $2... Just ask fellow con-ers, or even the staff. Food is a necessity, and is readily available in downtown San Jose! C:

*Pointless flyers scattered across tables. Why?
*Although this isn't exactly a problem for Fanime, I want to point out that it'd be better if the dealers in Dealer's hall would start selling merchandise from this year's anime seasons? I'm a little sick of seeing the same old things over and over again.

I am a bit saddened that Fanime is less about anime and Japanese culture and more about the fanbase of MLP, Homestuck, and Steampunk.
The flyers were open advertisement for people. It would be better if a few people spent 20 mintues each night re-organizing the tables- but that's what it's for.

As far as the Dealer's hall, they will only supply things they think will sell, or have open access to. I'm sure you could suggest something to some of the dealers that come next year, but it might be easier to buy the newest items on the internet. c;

However, I completely agree with this part. There was so much Homestuck, MLP, and Adventure Time... That's fine, but why is it more popular than the anime? It's fANIME, for goodness-sake! The fans are like sheep- what is popular on the internet, they will become obsessed as well. It would be amazing if we brought more attention to fanime- but that is up to the people in artist's alley, as well. If they sell more MLP, the MLP fans will grow stronger.... like a virus! I really loved this year, but it went by alot faster than the previous years. Looking back, I tried to figure out why... Then I remembered.

* ) The Musicfest... what happened? Was there a problem getting people?
* ) SO MANY PEOPLE. So, there seemed to be twice as many people this year. Should we expand Fanime?
* ) Thursday? (although the power outage would stop this) Can we have more to do on Thursday?
* ) Badge Pictures - I love the pictures-... but it would be amazing if there was an open way to submit our own artwork for this. Maybe an open competition/vote?
* ) San Jose makes it impossible to give away bags at Dealers hall- but can't we buy them for $0.10? At one point, I forgot to bring a bag- but dealers weren't allowed to help.
* ) Fanime is by fans, for fans. However, you can only help if you work or volunteer for Fanime. What if we had polls on the forum or main website? For smaller desicions that we would like to have our own input in?
* ) -while I stare type- It would be amazing if we updated the forum layout/style. Haha, this plain layout is starting to hurt my eyes... :'D
Being anime fans, many of us are talented in graphic design, digital artwork, etc. However, I haven't seen anything that asks for our input or assistance? Many of us would love to decorate the forum, artwork, etc!  :D

EDIT: I noticed everyone complaining about the line? If there are so many people, what do you expect? I think the only way to improve this would be to have a line on both WEDNESDAY and thursday. With both days open, it would cut time for Day 0.

Registration / Re: So you lost my badge?!?!
May 30, 2012, 09:17:38 AM
Just a reminder, they have hundreds of badges that they have to dish out to everybody, so a few are bound to be lost. I'm really happy with how they handled the choas this weekend. Even if some badges got lost along the way, they did an amazing job handling eveything~

I have a quick question! I plan on having a table in the Artist's Alley, so is it possible to only have hours at night?
I don't mind being awake 24 hours all weekend (since Fanime only happens once a year!), but I would love to participate as a Rover next year...

So, Alot of people missed the autograph session because of the lack of schedules... Is there any possibility of bringing him back? I'm sure he would see it as a great honor!
#17
Well, Although I know it's not realistic... I'd request Gackt... xD
He is not only hot, has a beautiful voice, and famous in multiple countries, but was also the model for Cloud (Final Fantasy), Gakupo (Vocaloid), was brought into Kamen Rider Decade, and even had his debut with S.K.I.N. (including Miyavi) at Anime Expo...

On a more realistic note, I'd like to bring Yuya back? Okay, I know people dont always like it when a person is repeated, but I and many others weren't able to get an autograoh from him because we missed the times for the autograph session... since there wasnt a schedule... It almost seemed unfair... Can we bring him back? (;´ρ`)

Manga Artists: Ayano Yamane, Minami Haruka, Yana Toboso

EDIT: I missed Yoshiki, too! Am I the only one here that missed a lot because of all the confusion with schedules and overlapping times?

Ideas and Suggestions / Theme for Fanime 2012
May 31, 2011, 09:12:45 AM
For those of us that just can't wait to brainstorm our ideas for Fanime 2012's theme, post your ideas and thoughts here, for now.

I noticed there wasn't a thread yet, so I guessed there might be a few people dying to share their thoughts to save for later~

QuoteLuca's Theme Ideas:
Taking into perspective what we have done for previous years, I like the "subculture" themes.
I don't remember all the previous years, so here is my list of ideas!

Lolita {Gothic & Sweet} -a victorian twist
"Otherkin" {elven, fairies, sprites, aliens, dragons, angels, demons, vampires, werewolves, etc...} -celebrateing all creatures not human
Pokémon -not only is it a part of so many childhoods and game-obsessions, it has its own subculture...
Cybergoth -bringing cyberpunk, goth, and raver together
J/K-pop -K-pop is flying across the world at record speed. Why not celebrate our J-pop and K-pop idols? Can you imagine the added excitement for the concert??
Harajuku {Lolita, Gyaruo, Kogal, ... etc.} -celebrating the fashions of Japan
Visual Kei -yet another subculture of Nihon! Of course, this could easily be a part of the previously mentioned "J/K-pop"
Dolly Kei -"EHHH?!" Yes, for those who haven't heard, there is a Dolly Kei! I know alot are probably confused, since you may or may not keep up with japanese fashions/subcultures, but here is wiki's input: "a newly-emerging style based on Japan's view of the Middle Ages and European fairy tales, especially the Brothers Grimm. It includes a lot of vintage skirts, dresses, etc., and sometimes has religious symbols."
PARA PARA!! -okay, not serious about this one... I just thought it would be fun if everyone started dancing like Para Para! Okay, this is a type of dance where everyone does the same movements... like synchronized dancing!

I'm not saying we have input... But maybe we could help the people that actually make the decisions? I know that it's hard to decide on something for Fanime, not knowing whether or not the con-goers will agree with the decision...

During the closing ceremony, they announced the 2012 theme as being 'Sports'.

What are your ideas for the sports theme, guys? :D

LOL! In a mariot elevator, EVERYONE started singing this random song, which was hilarious since the elevator was full, but we were stopping at every floor on the way down from the 20th. So, the elevator opened to SOOO many people, who either started at us in shock, or died laughing at the full, singing elevator.
