Title: Guests I Want for Fanimecon 2010!!!!!
Post by: Nina Star 9 on May 28, 2009, 10:24:06 PM
Err... the adding a new exclamation point every year thing is getting a bit ridiculous, isn't it?

Same as always. Guests you would like to see for next year. Please keep it realistic, but posting dream guests is okay (it might be better to say "I doubt it will ever happen, but my dream guest is..." rather than going "I WANT GACKT AND MANA AND AYUMI HAMASAKI AND UTADA AND THAT GUY WHO CREATED NARUTO AND AND AND.... OR ELSE I WON'T GO TO THE CON!!!!1111," since that's a bit annoying, as you can see).

I still say we open up more genres for MusicFest! JiLL-Decoy association did some anime music (Red Garden, Blue Dragon) and are totally awesome. Paris Match = <3, as well. haha, not that either of these guests would really draw out much of a crowd, but we really do need some jazz at MF one of these years. I can dream, right? ;P

(I'm not suggestiong Amano Tsukiko as I always do because she's retired now... unless we get her out here as a visual artist rather than a music artist, in which case I would be totally happy, but really... never going to happen.)

Seriously, bring DJ Shadow. He's a Bay Area native (born in San Jose), and it would be awesome to hear his style of music and sampling.
Also bring back Halko Momoi!

I'd like to see more seiyuu.

And it may just be because of the epic Pokemon masquerade skit that I'm feeling nostalgic, but I'd love to see Billy Crawford sing the Pokemon Theme live. ;D

Since I've already posted my list for japanese guests that I want I'll post the american guests I want here and that is the one and only Mark Hamill. The Joker FTW! Kevin Conroy would be a good choice too and getting Billy West would be awesome and he might not be hard to get since he went to numerous anime conventions before the latest being Broward Anime Festival.

lllORZ ah....I wish all of the voice actors from Ouran High School Host Club would come, Maaya Sakamoto (Haruhi), Mamoru Miyano (Tamaki), Masaya Matsukaze (Kyouya), Kenichi Suzumura (Hikaru), Yoshinori Fujita (Kaoru), Ayaka Saito (Honey), and Daisuke Kirii (Mori). But I doubt they would even come to the U.S. especially fanime D: even Kokoro Kikuchi can not make it -sighs- hopes and dreams...

But anyways....if the original japanese cast cant show (doubt it anyway) then the English voice actors! Realistic enough hahaha :P
And Blake Shepard XD....or Quinton Flynn...

I third this. Though I'd prefer japanese seiyuu.

Anyone from the cast of Soul Eater or Vampire Princess Miyu would be cool. Or guests from the animation companies. X3

How about a mangaka? It has been awhile since we had one out.

I agree about the getting mangaka. Just need to find one that is available and not doing weeklies and out of reach.

I would love to see Moyoco Anno as a guest, but I don't think too many people are familiar with
her works besides Happy Mania and maybe Sugar Sugar Rune.

To hell with the Pillows. Seriously. The only reason any one in the US really knows them is because of FLCL(which in all honesty is some of their worse songs outside of Funny Bunny). Why would you want the pillows to come to fanime? Seriously. They do like 9832u9832983259843 shows in the City already, you can see them for like 1/4 the price of fanime badge admission. Seeing that they already DO PAYING SHOWS in the US, they would actually cost a decent amount to bring here (I know this for a fact since every con always talks about wanting to get them). Almost everyone I know that likes the pillows has been to at least one of their concerts, have gotten pictures with the band members, and even got to talk to them for a bit.

So why would you want the pillows to come to Fanime? Just wait for them to do another concert in the City and go see them then.

I still would like Scott Matthew or Steve Conte, but I doubt they would wanna come out here from New York. Plus, Steve is busy with the New York Dolls.

On top of that, they probably wouldn't have the means to perform their popular anime songs as they should be. Although, they'd probably be able to make some decent sales off of their own albums if anyone even knows who they are.

There are a lot of people (including myself) who can't come to the city because they play in the middle of the week and are from out of town (2-4 hours).

Since the demand for them has died down, they wouldn't be that hard to get. fanimecon would be perfect since people can take the time off and enjoy them play. I would like to see them and The Noodles play at fanimecon, but hey that is just me.

And I say this every time. Why would you spend a huge part of the budget because "YOU" or a "SMALL GROUP" of people can't see the pillows the some odd 10 times they've played in the Bay Area in the past 5 years. "Sure you guys have had multiple opportunities to see this group, but since you didn't, instead of getting someone new we will spend money to get this group to you, screw everyone else that COULD go to their shows, and probably went to MULTIPLE shows they did in the US, because a few people couldn't ask for a day off work on any of the concerts, some of which being friday night, and they are more important than you."

I'd understand it, if the group actually cared more, have had done something for anime more recently, or that if they only did maybe like... 1 show in the bay area. Really there's no reasoning behind it though. The Pillows are pretty washed up. No one cares about them anymore in Japan, and no one has for about 4 years. The only songs most people in the US know of, are their FLCL songs. They've done a lot of concerts all over the US, and many of them were in San Francisco, which is anything but far from Fanime. Chances are, they will do more shows in the City as well. Atleast other cons have the reasoning of "they've never played in this area before" when they spend a good amount of their budget attempting to get the pillows. And the Pillows aren't cheap, easy to get, probably, but not cheap.

It's like this on every con forum though, everyone always suggests the pillows, a pretty much washed up band, that were good for a while... but are now resorting to mostly concerts in the US to make it. Just wait a few months... they'll play another show in the city... ask for work off, and see them then.

As far as Japanese Seiyuu--

If you could get Jouji Nakata, I would be one very happy fangirl.  I may be alone in this sentiment, however.

If I may chime in folks,
I said this on the Momoi forum, but I feel it needs to be said here.  If you, the fan, want to help us, here is the leg work our GR team requires:

1. Will the guest be interactive?
2. Is the guest a fan of the industry?
3. Will the guest reach a wide variety of fans?

If yes is the answer to each of these questions, then we would certainly consider your ideas.  Some of the big names I have seen mentioned would certainly not fit in with the kind of guest we are looking for.  Fanime is seeking to give its fans a very different experience than any other con.  By following the above guidelines for our guests, we hope to accomplish this every year.

Please be confident that our GR team is here, reading, and listening to your serious ideas.  Fanime is your show after all, but you share it with 15,000 others.

Thanks for your time and passion folks, it is what makes this show great!

Sincerely,
Jason Ebner

Bring Perfume. They totally fit the questions you asked.

1. They are REALLY into call backs and stuff during their concerts. One of the most fun parts of their lives seems to be the fan interaction.

2. They have had a lot of early exposure on the ANIMAX channel, and did collab with Momoi previously afterall. Nocchi is a big manga otaku and the "cutesy & girly" Kashiyuka likes JoJo's Bizzare Adventure. What's not to like?

3. The beauty of their music is that it's techno-pop. Both techno audiophiles, and pop fans, love their music. That being said, they're one of the most popular names in Japanese music today. Their taste is infective. Many of the members of a Perfume forum I frequent are also anime fans, but there are plenty of non-anime fans as well.

On the offhand, they are SO much better than Morning Musume. They re-define the label of "idols".

I vote for Kyle Hebert. He has a long list of anime and video games under his belt and can reach a wide array of audiences from all types of series. He is very interactive and does his best to write back to all fans who send him mail or e-mail and even prefers to be contacted directly for booking appearances. He is also a fan of the industry as shown by his very own Big Bald Broadcast. A podcast about all things geeky. And lets face it folks. We're geeks.

As a die hard Yu Yu Hakusho fan, I would love to see Chuck Huber and Justin Cook.

:3  They seem to be the more avid con goers of the four mains, Chuck especially; Chris Sabat and John Burgmeier rarely seem to attend conventions at all.  So I don't feel that they meet the criteria.  (Even though I personally would love to meet them anyway.)

EDIT::  Whoops!  Turn out, Sabat actually attends tons of conventions, so maybe him too!  XD  Let's see if he'll shout, "It's over 9000!!!" for us.  XD  Dang it, why can't Burgmeier go to conventions, Kurama's my favorite!  D:

Chuck Huber has a legion of fans called "Chuck's Donuts" who hold Donut Panels at whatever convention they happen to gather at. Which seems to be more in the Middle East of the country, so whether or not one could be held at Fanime, I don't know.  However he's got a looooooooooooot of experience under his belt as a voice actor and I think he'd be a great guest for Fanime.

And Justin Cook!  ADR Engineer of FUNimation!  Need I say more?  o.o  And if both Justin and Chuck come they can have a panel at the same time, seeing as how they know each other.  So that would also save time, and make for a great Q&A panel experience as well.  :3

Most of the seiyuu and music types I really want to see are so big time that I would be pretty dubious of their making it. Perhaps Yuki Kajiura/Kalafina/FictionJuanction would be possible - she was at Anime Boston this past year during Fanime - but then again, maybe not. I would be shocked if Yoko Kanno made came to Fanime, being as she makes very few public appearances to begin with.

Voices such as Kugimiya Rie, Noto Mamiko, Sakamoto Maaya, Wakamoto Norio and Nakata George... even Makino Yui and Nakajima Megumi. I really wish we had a chance of getting them. I guess it's worth mentioning on the rare chance it could happen. But I'm not holding out hope.

As for a more realistic one, how about Nomico? She's done endings for Moe-tan and Akikan! and some vocals for Touhou songs. That's a solid, if budding, resume IMO.

Then there are bands like Last Alliance - they were a good band to begin with, and they got an Ouran ED and Real Drive, plus they do the OP in the new Hajime no Ippo series, too.

I really want this band to come (I ask for them like every year lol)

Plastic Tree:
They have graced the oricon charts a couple of times, they are very interactive (the vocalist ryutaro talks with the audience and always asks the fans to cheer for an encore also plays arround by sometimes saying "everyone lets play together!"). They have a new single that came out called Fukuro that was also used for the ED of the show "Count Down document byou yomi". They have an easy listening sound that can reach many fans since their sound is always changing. from dark stuff to pop Also their other song Namida Drop was used for the Garasu no kantai ending. They have always said in interviews that they really want to do tours outside of Japan and Europe and not to mention they are otaku themselves.

Them coming to fanimecon would make my year~

Alodia G (blackmage9.deviantart) is a famous cosplayer from the philipines. she'll be great for a guest .
Or maybe the famous Kipi from japan ! <3 but thats like impossible lol .

Momoi would be a great person to bring back. she was amazing in 2009 very energetic.
Yoshioka Yui would be good too.

I knew Facebook had it's amazing ups!

I messaged Chuck Huber to ask if he would come, and his was response was pretty positive!

He said he hadn't been invited but if he is then he'll show up!  :D

So...  Please, I'm asking as a die hard fan of Yu Yu Hakusho, (and I'm positive that there's plenty more out there,) that would absolutely love to see one of her favorite voice actors, invite him to Fanime?  :3

I am going to second this. I would really love to see Chuck Huber. ^-^

:D  Thank you!  I knew I wasn't the only one.  XD

So is it safe to you assume you're a fan of Yu Yu Hakusho?  Because wouldn't it be awesome to have a YYH Panel?  They had one at Colossal Con (saw it on YouTube), but only Chuck and Laura were there.  D:  Not that I didn't find it hysterical but imagine how awesome it would be to get the rest of the gang's VA's?  Like Justin Cook, Chris Sabat, and maybe even John Burgmeier!

I'm having too much fun here.  I need to suppress the fangirl inside me.  Haha~  XD;;  But really though Chuck was all for it, he just needs an invite!   8D

there is a possibility that vic might show up even if he isn't officially a guest of honor (spike spencer too) - it's been known to happen.  i know that people like danny glover, whoopie goldberg, and a few others have rolled through in the past and vic knows at least one staff member at fanime so you never know.

PS: this statement is in no way intended to suggest that he is even being looked at as a guest - i have no idea who is being looked at nor could i release the information even if i did know.  it is simply to point out that it's possible he might show up unannounced and on his own - he lives in san jose (or somewhere close) i believe.

on the main topic though, i vote for Myco.

Having Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill sounds good. I not sure whether to ask them what they thought of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight and Heath Ledger and Christian Bale performances as the Joker and Batman, or whether to ask Mark Hamill what he thinks about the Star Wars prequels and The Clone Wars series.

I was thinking Hangry&Angry since they went to AnimeExpo but I couldn't go. It would be awesome if they came. Or at least any Japanese Rock Band. Not as big as AnCafe so it won't be crazy like it was, but someone that isn't too known so they can be known. Do you get what I'm saying?

well, maybe Adam Sessler would be an acceptable choice, but I'm not a fan of that channel anymore, since they screwed up the programming years ago. I miss the old G4! :'(

Here are a few guests that would a good addition for the con.

*Doug Walker, aka That Guy With The Glasses/Nostalgia Critic [he may be open to an invite, check the video if you don't beleive me http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/video-updates/10626-conventions (http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/video-updates/10626-conventions)]
*ScrewAttack, preferably Stuttering Craig, Jose El Mexicano Maxcifent Corey, and "Tommy The Toucan" [Nervous Nick]
*Voice actor, Kyle Hebert.
*91.8 The Fan.com [may not be well known, but maybe you can invite these guys as Press members.]

I have a few suggestions (highly suggested):

Yamaguchi Kappei (seiyuu of Sakuma Ryuichi, L, Usopp, Ranma, Inuyasha, and Subaru)
Miyano Mamoru (seiyuu of Riku, Tamaki, and Yagami Raito)
Paku Romi (seiyuu to Edward Elric, Tao Ren, Temari, Hitsugaya Toushirou and Ichijouji Ken)
Seki Tomokazu (seiyuu to Soma Kyou, Shindou Shuichi, and Hidaka Ken)
Sasaki Nozomu (seiyuu to Mello, Urameshi Yusuke, Gekko Hayate, and Naoe Nagi)
Sugiyama Noriaki (seiyuu to Ishida Uryuu, Uchiha Sasuke, and England from Hetalia)

Seiyuu, for those who don't know, is the Japanese term for "voice actor".

You know he quit being "hard gay" a long time ago. He stopped doing that stuff like 2 1/2 years ago. Dunno if it was because his wife stopped him or if he just got tired of it, but <img-timeline>

I have lots of stories, of which I will not share. I don't like the guy nor how he treats the fandom as a whole. To him it's a job, and something he gets paid to do, and he really shows and treats it like it.

having personally dealt with crispin, i can tell you that pyon is correct.  he isn't a fan himself, but rather, he only looks at voice acting as a paycheck.  if you are dealing with him in a business setting, he's fine and can be quite helpful - especially to up and coming voice actors - but i wouldn't recommend him as a guest again.

spike, for the record, is a freaking awesome guy.  he's nice, personable, a great story teller, and all around fun guy to hang with.  he enjoys what he does and shares his enthusiasm with his fans.

And it may just be because of the epic Pokemon masquerade skit that I'm feeling nostalgic, but I'd love to see Billy Crawford sing the Pokemon Theme live. ;D
This. So. Much.  :D

I also second having people from G4tv. That seems like it would be pretty fun. As for my generic answer, I still say Vic Mignogna. Yes, another popular voice actor, but I think it would be pretty cool to see him there. And more fans would come to Fanime because he's there. >.>
I'd also like to see Chris Patton there. I honestly haven't seen many animes with him in it, but he just seems like an awesome guy to bring. He's really interactive with the fans and energetic, I think he'd bring a lot of life to Fanime.

I would like to see the people from Attack of the Show - stop by... I dunno if we're the right "genre" of random and wacky things of nerdom to count to be on AotS but it would be something to aspire towards.

I know that Blair Butler liks Comics related stuffs, - I didnt know she would be into Manga or Anime, then again I dont know much about the other AotS people besides Kevin and Olivia.  :P

Tell him I will grovel at his feet if he shows.

Lol, will do.
Currently, I'm trying to see if he's interested as attending as a GOH (Guest of Honor) or as a normal attendee. I could understand if he wouldn't want to be "mobbed" and having to be "in character" the whole time.

I've also sent a message to Angry Joe. I think he's thinking it's only as a "professional" invitation to be a GOH, as he was saying he was going to talk it over with Channel Awesome's CEO, Mike, to see if it's worth doing. Hell, if THAT were the case, they'd probably bring, Angry Joe, Linkara, and probably, The Nostalgia Critic. Honestly, while that would be awesome, I'm not counting on it. Although it's something worth pursuing. I'm mainly focusing on trying to get Linkara to show up.

I've let them know, that, this is a fan's invitation first, but if they're cool with it, and the Fanime staff is interested, then who knows?

Any thoughts?

Sorta like what Youmacon did.  Do what you can.  Anyone from Tgwtg would be awesome to have at Fanime.

If they all came, it would be a THOUSAND times better than their Youmacon appearance if Fanime did it right. Mainly because they'd have a good sized room instead of the crappy 1/2 room they got.

Here's what I mean.

But like I said, I don't feel comfortable trying to pressure them into coming, that would probably turn them off to the idea altogether. I'm merely extending an offer to Linkara and Joe as a friendly gesture.

I'd ask Doug...but that's like trying to ask the Pope to come to dinner at your house, lol. He's that awesome. I'm too chicken, lol.

G4tv anyone, i was thinking that for a while, wondering if they could come and do somthing on it. It just an idea i had.
Blair Butler would most likely go
Sessler and Morgan would be awesome to see
Maybe Olivia and Kevin

I would like to see the people from Attack of the Show - stop by... I dunno if we're the right "genre" of random and wacky things of nerdom to count to be on AotS but it would be something to aspire towards.

Just so they can mercilessly bash on everyone and laugh at everyone they see at the con?

YAY someone else finally said it so now I can reply.

Seriously, why the hell would you want G4 at Fanime? Have you seen their coverage of almost any convention like setting? All they do is make fun of retarded cosplayers, gawk at relatively attractive female cosplayers... and look for people to mock/whore out.

Yes, because this is totally what we want at fanime right?

I hope I'm posting in the right forum, I messed up last time...actually..I messed up twice..I think.  :-\

Anyways

Here's my list:

D.C. Douglas
Roger Craig Smith
Alyson Court
Paul Mercier

Seconded.  As far as I know, D.C. has yet to get any convention limelight time.  With the Alternate/Gold edition coming out in February and March, the hype would coincide pretty nicely with the convention.  Any other RE folk would be great, too, mocap, VA or otherwise.  The thing I like about having game folk at the con is that they're immediately involved with the original process, like JP voice actors.  It's really exciting to meet someone who made the game come to life.

Hello everyone!

This is my first post, hopefully it is in the correct area!
I work for a Jrock promotion company based in the US who markets and promotes Jrock and Visual Kei bands in Japan.
I currently manage a Jpop band who is interested in playing at FanimeCon 2010, but I have had no luck reaching anyone in charge.
If anyone could help me reach the correct person, it would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Excuse me if I have this wrong, but I'm going off your wording. You work for a promotion company based in the US but promotes in Japan? I don't understand why you would promote in Japan when you're based in America.

K', here's the second part I don't understand. If you work for a JRock promoting company, why are you managing a Jpop group? I mean, wouldn't you manage a group in the same vein?

ANYWAYS... [email protected] is who you're looking for.

Any or some or all of these would be super special awesome. (Some of these are repeats but the more the merrier, right?)

Singers/Seiyuu: May'n, Megumi Nakajima, Aya Hirano, and Nana Mizuki

English VAs: Monica Rial, Colleen Clinkenbeard, Caitlin Glass, Laura Bailey, Luci Christian, Dan Green, Chuck Huber, Vic Mignogna, Greg Ayres, Crispin Freeman, Wendee Lee, Brina Palencia, Todd Haberkorn, Cynthia Cranz, and probably more that I can't think of right now

Abridgers: hbi2k, littlekuriboh (and KROZE), vegeta3986 (8639) and masakoX(treme), lanipator, kaiserneko, takahata101, ZeroMaster (MegamanAbridged), NoWacking, and megami33 and the SMA crew

Mangaka: no one in particular comes to mind at the moment, but there are a lot of ones that would be great to see (my dream would be Eiichiro Oda, but that would never happen, ever D:)

Yeah, that's a lot... and I'll probably think of more and post again later...

Okay! I know parents might flip out on the idea that I will present!

So I thought that there would be those who wants to 'prove' that they can stand up to the character they cosplay. In terms of costumes and stuff, they can probably pull off the character. However, the combat skills are not shown as much.

To get to the point! A Boxing Ring where cosplayers can duke it out with the fighting style of their character.

The initial name for it will be: The Fanime Battle-Thon!

We might want to have local MMA fighters to be the referees of the matches. (Frank Shamrock, Cung Le, Josh Thompson, etc.)

Everyone is required to bring paddings and other safety gears.

Some of the rules:
1) Everyone get 3 rounds each. To win each round, you need 10 points. 1 points= Punch or a hand-strike to the stomach, 2 points= Leg strike to the stomach, 3 points= High kick to the head, 4 points= A successfully executed throw, 5 points= Executing a "Special Move"
2) A "Special Move" is the Character's Special Attack that is stopped at least 3 inches before the helmet or the chest plate. If the opponent does not notice the move in three seconds, then 5 points will be rewarded for perfect execution.
3) For any characters with weapons, they must use some safer version of it. (Nerf Sword, Water Balloon, Frisbee, etc.) All the ways to get points with weapons will be acquired the same way as without weapons.

The rest is up for discussion!

I don't know about you but this SCREAMS liability IMO just because you might have safety gear or whatever it doesn't mean people can still sue fanime for it and they could get shut down. No one wants that do they?

There was a thread like this awhile back.

N O

Not only parents would flip, I'm sure anyone with a working brain would. Do you have ANY idea how that is NOT going to work? Other than possible lawsuits up the kazoo, and other insane things that would have to be pushed, this will never happen. Just because you have safety gear does not mean it's safe. I've sparred before with safety gear, and have knocked out an opponent once (not on purpose) while not using excessive force. I'm sure if you actually have experience in this kind of stuff then you would understand.

Now that it's actually readable.

Simple, then don't go to Fanime.

First, you don't list anyone as to who you think a "good guest" would be. Then you talk down fanime, and compare it to Anime Expo in terms of guest. Off the top of my head, the ONLY AX "seiyuu" that AX and Otakon got that were note worthy were the Haruhi 3. Of which, most people don't care about Hirano Aya anymore. And was evident from the panel, no one gave a damn about the other two (which is laughable).

Major VA's? Halko Momoi was a guest at fanime last year. Queen of Akiba, and one of the most well known seiyuu today. Besides that, she is doing huge things for the music industry and the anime culture in general.

So I ask, who would be a "good guest" in your opinion.

Secret though, it's HARD for any US convention to get JP seiyuu, and realistically, there's no real reason for them to. JP Seiyuu are small pulls to conventions compared to US VA's and musical guests.

Ok I know this is could to open a literal can of worms here but what I take from the person's post is this: They don't like the seiyuu/JPN VA choices just due to not knowing or not caring for JPN VAs and would be fine with ENG VAs.

The only reason I say a "can of worms" is due to the whole dub vs sub/JPN VAs vs ENG VAs stuff that tend to arise. I mean this is just me but..... honestly I wouldn't really care all that much for JPN VAs just because I don't feel a need to be pulled into a series just because "soandso" is doing a voice.

Granted I'm probably in a very small minority in not caring much, if at all, at which character is voicing who (as long as it doesn't sound ridiculous), but just being glad or satisfied at seeing an anime that pulls interest from the viewer.

I know I'm probably going to get some hate/flak from people but when did anime viewers/fans need to be so........"elitists" when it comes to voices and only wanting JPN VAs?

From my perspective, I think it just stems from the fact of how bigger Fanimecon has gotten over the years that many people (including myself) tend wonder why hasn't Fanime gotten more well known seiyuus when comparing it to other anime cons that do have them such as Anime Expo, Otakon, and Animazement (when I said well known I meant those that have been in the business for many years.) Also, it depends on personal taste. Some people prefer Japanese VAs over American VAs not to mention there are many people in the west who are fans of certain seiyuus. The same applies to American voice actors.
Title: Re: Guests I Want for Fanimecon 2010!!!!!
Post by: PyronIkari on January 02, 2010, 02:20:38 AM
To both bahamut and Manta.

Okay, now you're opening a whole slew of questions and you're inserting your opinion over the base of the whole.

Sub vs. Dub is stupid... in general, because those are two opinions of taste. As for "well known seiyuu" that's once more, a question of opinion.

Mantaray: You don't list who you think is "well known seiyuu" because frankly, I, as well as most of Japan, would probably disagree as to who you think "well known seiyuu" are. I've gone to every AX in the past... 11 years, and once more I will repeat, they have not gotten any really well known "seiyuu" in terms of "american" standards. Even music guests are questionable. Kotoko's panel was pretty small. Momoi's panel was TINY. The only group (i repeat) that got a good sized audience was the SOS group. And really, no one really knew anyone's name except or Hirano Aya. So please tell me who are these "well known seiyuu" that other cons are getting, that fanime should be getting.

Now for fun personal stuff that has nothing to do with conventions. Most VA's are busy. Most "well-known" seiyuu are even more busy with things like radio shows, voice work, and other things pertaining to their job. A certain VA who is personal friends with a friend of mine talked to her about how trips overseas for something like this are really unheard of because it's unrealistic. Unless a US company that has rights to an anime wants to put up money for promotion, there's really 0 reason for a VA to come to the US. I.E. the SOS-dan and Bandai throwing down hella money to bring them to AX for promotion of Haruhi's US release. Note though, that they only brought the girls, and not the male characters, this was on purpose.

And the big thing. Comparing numbers. JP guests get ROUGHLY about half the amount of attendees at their panels than US VA's. Because the majority of convention fans watch anime dubbed, and local releases, over JP releases and R2 DVD's. The majority of anime fans, follow US releases, and aren't up to date with JP releases and VA's.

So you can suggest all the JP VA's you want, and if it's possible, Fanime will try to get them, but chances are, fanime, and every other convention won't be able to get them.

But again, list people you want, and I'd be able to tell you the realistic reasonings as to why they probably won't be able to come, even if AX or Otakon asked them to.

PyronIkari

I never listed anyone as a "well known seiyuu" (because people have their own opinions on who is one) and yes, I'm aware the chances of even getting one is slim but there's always a chance for one isn't there? As for guests I never had any problem on who fanime gets I just tried to answer bahamut's question.

Now for a personal question: Since you've been attending AX for a long time, I've always wondered. Do you remember how big/small Maaya Sakamoto's panel and concert was at AX05?

I never listed anyone as a "well known seiyuu" (because people have their own opinions on who is one) and yes, I'm aware the chances of even getting one is slim but there's always a chance for one isn't there? As for guests I never had any problem on who fanime gets I just tried to answer bahamut's question.

Yes, it was rather small actually. It didn't fill a standard sized room(It had about the same amount of attendees as Kotoko's Panel). Her concert had a good turn out(again, about the size of Kotoko's concert). But the panel itself was small compared to almost and US VA's panel turn out.

For Music Fest, I would like to see Plastic Tree << They're a pretty humble J-rock band, and have never played in the US before.
It would also be interesting if Jero (Enka singer) shows up. He seems interesting.

Jero gets paid bank to perform anywhere in the world, there is 0 chance fanime or any con could afford him.

Absolutely no chance ever, especially this year due to her Tokyo Jihen tour: Shiina Ringo
In all seriousness though, I am sure that any SR fan anywhere in the US would pay major bank to go to a concert here; she'd probably be harder to book than to pay.

& Mika Ninagawa: she directed Sakuran and works as a photographer.

& Takashi Miike (Yatterman)

Second Moyoco Anno, anyone from TGWTG (Nostalgia Chick is, I think, at USC, though something in me tells me that she's in NYC right now) especially NCritic and Linkara, and David Tennant.

That's usually the problem. Why plan a con in the US when fans are clamoring for you to play domestically for 10x the people and 20x the cash?

I agree, and I don't want to be naively optimistic, but Shiina Ringo herself sometimes favors smaller venues over larger ones, so it's not entirely a lost cause.

For musical guests, I say we bring in HANGRY & ANGRY.
Their music has the upbeat-ish type rock that corresponds well with anime, and they're an Indies group thus far.
Plus, they've already hit up Anime Expo and Sakura-con, so obviously bringing them into a convention successfully is possible.

They may also be able to do something to promote the fashion line, maybe work with a panelist, especially now that we have the first brand Gothic & Lolita shops open in San Francisco (Baby the Stars Shine Bright and Black Peace Now). Because personally, I thought last year's Lolita panel was horrendous and hope that if we have anything similiar this year it may be able to do Japanese fashion a little justice.

Im sorry what? How in what way was it horrendous? As a co-host to the Intro lolita panel and fashion show I feel like that is insulting to me and my fellow panelists as well as the models. We all worked hard on that panel, people volunteered their time and even some of their clothes to make our fashion show a success . I am sorry if you were expecting big lights, high end super awesome BURANDO and being pro model. This panel was made by people who loved lolita fashion so much that they wanted to share it with others. I never claimed to be an expert and neither did any of the others.

Also What does HANGRY & ANGRY have to do with lolita fashion? If anything they are more punk/H.NAOTO kids imo

Also Having a super awesome brand designer would be nice to have a panel but they would only discuss their brand not the entire lolita fashion and its many walks of life.

I'd like Patricia Ja Lee to come back, personally.  Outside of that...

- Johnny Yong Bosch
- Laura Bailey
- Nolan North (probably next to impossible, but it'd be awesome to see the dude behind Nathan Drake's voice)
- Steve Burton (English voice of Cloud)

Nothing else comes to mind at the moment.  I'd say Vic Mignogna and Crispin Freeman, but I've seen Crispin at AX already and Vic's slated to come to Tucson in March; I'll probably catch him there.

And concerning the G4 thing, I'd pretty much be against the idea.  Although it'd be nice to see someone like Kevin or Alison Haislip there, they'll pretty much be doing one of three things (if not all three at once): snark, gawk, and mock.  They'd pretty much alienate themselves from the rest of the con if they showed up IMO.

-EDIT-
Vertexguy, aka Chris Kline.  I'd say get him; he's pretty awesome.

Dan Southworth-Ditto for him^^
Johnny Yong Bosch-Another Ditto

Possibly someone from The Escapist. I mean it would be pretty interesting to have some guys from some of their shows doing a panel and whatnot.

I remember some guys from Newgrounds were there last year, I hope more popular people come there this year cause I'd love to see the real popular Flash animators around. (Egoraptor is a choice...but that just crossed my mind really fast.)

And just some wishful thinking...Id love it if Ajikan came down here...it's just a wild dream of mine^^.

SO out of the question.  There is no way they'd get anyone from the cast of Kamen Rider Double to come out to California for something like this, especially since they'd either still be filming the final few episodes or another movie around the time of the con.

lol@Johnny Yong Bosch. One of those guys who sounds exactly the same in every role! I guess he was OK in Tales of Symphonia 2 Knight of Ratatosk Dawn of the New World.

Musical talents - I would be super hype to see fripSide, KOKIA, or Kajiura Yuki and any other singers she might bring along (Kalafina, Yuuka, etc.) but I don't expect to see any of them out here. Taniuchi Hideki (composer for Death Note & Kaiji, among others) would be cool. Maybe Oshima Michiru (FMA, Xam'd, So-Ra-No-Wo-To) too. And then there's boa, the UK band that did Duvet (the Lain OP) - they're still around and making pretty good music. And I only know one song by THYME (the Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Mono: Natsu no Sora OP), but it's really good so I'd be interested to hear more. Kubota Mina also has some really good work (Kannazuki no Miko OST, ARIA theme composition, and Kaleido Star). And just about anyone from I'VE SOUND would be exciting. I would also be pretty excited to see most any artist that's featured in DJ Max Technika. Finally, this last one is shooting for the stars, but how about Supercell?

For voice/performing hybrids, everyone wants Momoi Halko back, but I'd be even more excited for Makino Yui, Toyosaki Aki, Horie Yui, or Mizuki Nana.

As for artists and mangaka... too many to name. Big names like Fujishima Kousuke and Urasawa Naoki would be a grand slam, but there are plenty of smaller artists I'd be excited about, like Makutsu (Rui-Rui) or huke (Steins;Gate). I'm not sure how much Kantoku counts as small-time anymore, but he's amazing, as is pretty much any of the artists in 100 masters of Bishojo painting (http://www.amazon.com/Masters-Bishojo-Painting-English-Japanese/dp/486100666X).

I know Fanime 2010 is over, but I'm already looking forward to 2011!  Fanime this year was SO FUN!  I loved it so much!  My favorite part was when I went to the LM.C concert!  They are one of my favorite J-Rock bands ever and knowing they would be there was so exciting!  Also, the Q&A Panel and the autograph session were so much fun!  The friends I went with and I have been gushing ever since we returned about getting to meet Maya and Aiji, our heroes.  Thank you so, so much for having them and I hope they had an enjoyable experience meeting all of their American fans!

For next year, I would love to continue seeing more J-Rock bands guest appearing at the Fanime!  One of my favorite J-Rock bands that I would LOVE to see, if it's possible, is Acid Black Cherry.  Now that Yasu has made a vocal recovery, it would be a great opportunity for him and the rest of the band to make a comeback for their fans here in America!
