I know what WCS is. It's the state dance and I actually know how to do it. Not amazingly well, but I know the basic step. It would be nice if everyone could actually keep the circle moving though...

Um....... In which state is it the state dance?  And in what state does it travel in a circle??  I am confused ._.

West Coast Swing is California's official State Dance.

Many States have official symbols that identifies it against other states. Like the California Grizzley Bear is CA's state mammal and so on.

It's interesting to note that many states in the U.S. have Square Dance as their official dance. Maybe we should consider putting in a square dancing class in? ;-)

Oh ew....no offense, but I can't stand the damn thing. By circle, I mean that in Ballroom dancing the crowd is supposed to move counterclockwise around the room with the inside of the circle being used to pass those on the edge.

@MonkeyRikku - my bad:  WCS = west coast swing.  Easiest way to explain it is to have the pros do it -

And please please please can we not have that crap ass version of the macarena? Also, there were some goths freakin grinding on the dancefloor to everything and that was annoying.

WCS songs:  Almost everything released as pop music in the last three months :P.

Made it into rotation at WCS conventions:

Available - Flo-Rida
Down - Jay Sean w/ Lil Wayne
Do you remember - Jay Sean w/ Lil John and Sean Paul
Black Eyed Peas - Meet Me Halfway
Masquerade - Backstreet Boys
Bad Romance - Lady Gaga
Shooting Star (LMFAO remix) - Young Boss feat. Kevin Rudolf & Pitbull

The point of this is to actually dance, if you could tell us what dances could be done to those songs that would be cool.

Swing on a Star - Bruce willis - Foxtrot
Toys go Winding Down - Primus - Cha cha
Herr Droselmyers Doll - Abney Park - Waltz
My curse - Killswitch Engage - Waltz
Nothing Else Matters - Apocalyptica or Mettalica - waltz
Stand By Me - Ben E. King
Missed Me - Dresden Dolls - Slow Tango

Anything by Elctro Dub Tango is good

Someone actually started pushing all the buttons in my elevator once so I hit the stop button and started yelling at him. I'm pretty sure I asked if his mother was proud of him being a little...well, you get the idea. I think I made him cry, but if that's what it takes to make those brats stop I'll gladly do it again.

Also, as to Elevator locations and speeds, the Fairmont has the nice one, the Hilton smells like feet, and the Saint Claire is probably the slowest.

I can only think of about two fortune tellers to cosplay as this upcoming year.

Theresa from Fable II
Hitomi form Escaflowne

I need a third, badly. And I don't even really want to dress as Hitomi, she creeps me out.

I've always found that dressing up as your favorite char is the important part, as long as you remember the basic rules:

Spandex is a Privilege, not a right.
If you look down and can't see your toes, don't show off your stomach (or any other part for that matter)
No Man Faye!

Other than that, do whatever makes you feel good. And, avoid dyeing your hair to match, it doesn't always look good.

Okay, because in reality there's a lot of really cool people who work for ShinRa, really the Turks and Rufus, and they have no meeting of their own, I decided to set one up. It's primarily based off of an RPG my friends set up, but we decided that there simply has to be more Turks than are featured in the game/s and movie/s. They're just on assignment. There's also the random secretaries and that poor guy from the train...

So this is a meeting set up exclusively for the corporate villains of Final Fantasy VII!

Just let me know if you're feeling up to the challenge and i'll throw you on the list:

Jim...are you my old teacher? Cuz that would be totally crazy if you were, and if you were, sorry about dropping your class mid -semester.

If you aren't my teacher Jim, uhm, I took ballroom dance for three semesters, not counting the one I dropped. But I learned as a follower. So my knowledge consists of:

Cha-cha
Salsa
Tango
Waltz
Single Lindy Swing
West Coast Swing
Street Hustle
Nightclub Two-step

as campy and horrible as it may be, I think we should get the bleach musical.

Also, Gokusen

Zatoichi (there's quite a few of them actually and very old school)

Is there a way we can have a dance workshop for non-beginners? That way people who are a bit more advanced can get together and practice their west coast or something?

Isn't the point of a black and white ball to be in black and white though? otherwise it's not a black and white ball and the idea has just turned from "the second annual black and white ball" to "the first annual Fanime Formal".

Although I have to admit I was about to ask about the colors black, cream, and off-white. I have a dress that's layered with these colors in the underlay.

There will be a 2009 formal naruto gathering during the Black and White ball if you are interested contact me or Brightheart76

Not to be rude, but Naruto cosplayers have always been jerks to me. So I'm not interested. Sorry.

I planned on attending last year, but the ball conflicted with AnCafe. Personally I think that reflected poor planning. But the main point of my post is wanting to know if the Street Hustle or Tango was taught, I really like those dances and Street hustle isn't much different from the jitterbug.

MIYAVI!!!  but mabey its just me.  :P

I would also love to have AnCafe Back for a second year!!  It was awsome, but I think that the con should do something about the lines and find out a way to fairly give out the tickets!!

I second both of those ideas. I liked having a fun band to go and see, plus both are easy to dance to.

Here's my problem, I'm supposed to help one of my friends pick out a cosplay costume, simple enough normally, but he's a big guy, not big around the butt or tummy, but big in the muscles department.

Think Jack Krauser (who has been denied for cosplay).

Also, he hates Naruto and Final Fantasy, he's a brunette, and he has massive Sylar-esque eyebrows.

... sharpies of the rainbow.

This isn't cosplay related but I once got pulled to the front of an autograph line because I happened to have a silver Sharpie in my bag  ;D  (I apologize to everyone else in that line, including my friend who got left behind! I was kind of nervous about it!)

Back on subject, what do the rest of you do when you break a heel or bust a tie on your shoe or waraji, or otherwise come up limping?

Gorilla glue. it glues anything to everything. except water. and it's really good at sticking fingers to each other.

pre made bows i can super glue onto snags and tears. Obviously super glue, nail polish remover, black cording, Gorilla glue, needles, safty pins, buttons, Thread(burgandy, black, white, pink), and sharpies of the rainbow.

I plan on cosplaying as Sunako Nakahara from Wallflower. And I would absolutely love coming by and participating in this as a suspect or something like that ya know? She kinda loves death and stuff anyways, so she might make it funny cuz she'd always try stealing the evidence nd stuff. It'd give us a good way to start having clues disappear or move and make people pay attention.
