Hello again!
In 2010, I created this gathering/thread as a noob/newb (Since I still haven't learned which way to spell it... and the fact that I am still considered new! xP OTL) who didn't know if anyone else was planning a gathering for all of us forum friends! :P
The idea started as a different sort of gathering (a cookie party or something xP) in a forum games thread as a joke, evolved, and became a reality! We ended up meeting for ice cream a short bit down at B&J's, and although it didn't last long I/we had a bunch of fun! ^_^ So, although it's quite early to be making plans, I thought I should try and update this thread to show that I'd love to put together a gathering (or a few xD) for Fanime 2011!

i dont know if you mean this gathering at/during FanimeCon because again i need to remind you guys
that as great as the idea is...
we cant have people handing or giving out random food/candy/baked/ consume-able items to random ppl or newly made friends.
the main reason was Liability - we dont want anyone to get into legal issues including FanimeCon in case someone gets into health issues because of someone handing out food items at the Con.
sorry for bust the bubble. Safety and keep Fanime around is pretty important.

Would a picnic be an acceptable alternative?
Well that sucks. I'm still willing to meet up and not eat anything :)
there's already several picnics / cosplay and non cosplay related already planned.
again im not trying to rain on the parade, just no food items make or cooked at home.
pre-packaged or store/dealer bought items. but again dont overly share with ppl that you dont know or trust.
again just being safe everyone. :P
Hmmm... we could all go down to a local food place and get something if we were looking at a picnic.
And true, there are others, I guess I just haven't looked hard enough.

If you want to join our picnic you are more than welcome. It's officially called the "Naruto Picnic" but it is open to everyone cosplay or not. We'll have lots of people as well as some games and lots of prizes. You have to bring your own food but the games are free to play.
If you want to join us we'll be at the park across from the Marriot on Sunday from 1:00 until about 2:30.

I know how about a simple game of "sardines" at con? Scratch that. It might look too much like an unorganized line, which is a hassle for Rovers, which I am staffed as.
let's decide once we gather. we seem to think somewhat alike, and it would be fun to be spontaneous.
or we could just organize it, and go to ice cream! (you can tell i love ice cream)

I don't care what we do but I do want to set a time and place to meet. Any preferences for which day? I was honestly thinking Friday because there tends to be fewer gatherings and such going on and then if we meet at the beginning and decide we want to meet up somewhere else during the con (like at B&W ball) or find out that we may not work out as a group as well as we thought (I kinda doubt that, hopefully that's not the case :P) then we can make that decision early enough to act on it.

I believe the Ben & Jerry's is on 4th street; next to Pizza My Heart. McDonald's and La Victoria's is across from it, and SJSU south entrance is north of it.

so it seems like theres enough general interested in a random group "meet and greet" tho of course you may all want to wait til the final schedule of events is released... or loosely plan a date, time, meet up place-- also have a major marker or sign to note each other and/or have a person of reference to note the group.
otherwise ppl might get confused and/or left behind and you wouldnt want to do that.
Just throwing this out there. If we do decide to hang out then we should have someone to contact with. Like if we are in the meeting place and were like"is this the group i'm suppose to meet?" It's better if we can..i don't know...call the leader and see if that's them.>.>
The only reason i'm saying this is because we had a similar gathering not to long ago and some of us got lost and didn't have anyone to call and see if they had decided to go someplace other then the spot they were supposed to meet them. Thus leading some of us to leave and not enjoy our time with other forum members.....like me.>.>
Allrighty, then how about this: We could all meet up at Stage Zero at the time we end up deciding on, and I'll try to get there a bit early or just on time if I can't be early and I'll hold up a sign saying Forums Friends Gathering and put a Pocky box puppet I made on top? I could even make that sign early and link a picture here if that's a concern. When we set the time we could set it a few minutes earlier than we plan to meet and be able to wait a given amount of time (like 7 minutes or something Idk) and then leave. Anyone who missed it could just know how long in general we plan to hang out for.
Jerry do you have any idea when the final schedule is going to be announced? That was something I was worried about too, since there are a lot of panel ideas I heard about but have no clue if they made it and where or when if they did.
As for contact numbers I can definitely see why you'd want one. I'm not sure how open I am to giving out my phone number, any other ideas or parties willing?
Depending what day/night time location you end up picking. I could probably be my own landmark... im getting lots of feedback on my costume and I've been told to have a decent amount of ballons on my backpack...
I think it would be hard to miss that [if i end up getting balloons] so that could be me.
the last time I put my cell phone number for the last gathering, it got kinda hectic and i kept missing calls or texts because i was too distracted and i had to put my phone on silent because i was in a movie at the time.
this time might be different but again i think if i do go this this gathering my costume and i will still out like a sore thumb.
i wanna say that on average the "final schedule" is usually released about a week before Fanime.
Executive and General staff is having their final meeting this Saturday, so at the very latest im guessing the schedules will be semi-hard set by Monday before Con. Then the group will decide via majority ruling what, where and how everyone wants to meet up.
Well I support the Forum Friends Gathering to be on Friday. Gives is more time to bond during the convention. I'm REALLY looking toward to this. I can't wait and I hope the location/time/etc. will be decided soon (:

Friday looks good for most of you huh? Sure Friday is great. I was thinking about Noon for time, seeing as how gatherings and panels don't typically start before opening ceremonies right? If we met at noon, left about 7 minutes after we should be able to be back easily before opening ceremonies begin. Of course, I'm not sure about working times for all of you, staff or not, nor do I have any clue of the official Fanime schedule, so let's keep time open until the schedule comes out but everyone can suggest here?
The only other worries I can come up with is weather and back up plans-I don't have any clue of what the weather is going to be like so be prepared ya'll! When we get closer if we want we can make a back up plan in case this doesn't work, if anyone's interested. I don't know how many of you will have internet access at con but I know I will just FYI.

It's true that we can't decide on a time until we get a schedule. That will be up a couple days before con, right? Let's just wait til the schedule is up, then everyone start checking this thread a lot and throwing out ideas for time, and we'll get our time decided upon. If anyone's got any problems with the time we decide, maybe we can just figure out when the left-out-people can hang out and we can hang out with them when they're free. Let's make everyone happy.
I don't think we'll need to have someone put down their cell phone number as someone to call, since that might get complicated and result in disaster. So let's just wait until the schedule is up and then decide on a time and then pip pip cheerio, we're on our way.
until then, let's decide what to do. What is ninja?
With some luck, i think the major schedules will be out this friday. giving all the 16,000+ peeps a chance to get all their "ducks" in order and what not.
realisitically, i might be around for an "after" or later later night party as me, and teams of rovers might be dealing with music fest lines. but I would like to participate as reasonably as possible.

Ninja's addicting. I think I played for 4-6 hours on the last night in the gaming room last year, and could barely walk due to my knees being close to giving out frequently. My legs were pretty sore for the next three days after that. Good times :)

Well honestly I didn't see this little gathering lasting more than an hour or two, and I'd been leaning towards a time around noon so we don't have to worry about it getting in the way of the stuff that starts after opening ceremonies. If we went around noon we could be back just in time for said ceremonies I figured. As far as the rice party goes, that's up to Jerry. Totally different thing these days I believe. :P
i am confused. for the most part, excluding Jerry's Rice Rave, we're gathering around noon on friday at {insert location} and we'll hang out for an hour or two?

I just offered the idea of a Ricer Cooker :p though I'm still totally bringing it. but I'm sorta up in the air until I see the schedule so that im not cutting into epic or major events of the night.

11AM on Friday works, I should be at the con around 8AM to meet up with friends so if anyone wants to meet up before then, that could work out too.

my apologies, didn't mean to make you rush. thank you for planning things out. i just didn't know if anyone was organizing it or if it was just people being like "ya i'll be there" but i see we're in good hands! :)
;D Why thank you. Anyway I FINALLY got through the whole scedule of events and Saturday if not Sunday also is out of the question. Friday early I've got to film stuff for my Fanime work but I should be done in time to be able to go places~ Here are the times I'd suggest:

11 am -1:40 pm should be pretty free as far as things go. There were one or two things in there I could easily skip.
As soon as opening ceremonies are over I have until about 3:30 so I can get ready for the Ouran gathering. (How long are opening ceremonies anyway? )
Also: I really wanted to attend at least one dance lesson session before Sunday- both for personal and S0 projects. There are a few on Friday that are right around the time we're meeting. Anyone interested or are ya'll too busy/not interested?

I wouldn't mind something as early as 11am, so we can play Ninja. Ben & Jerry's opens at 12:00, if we're doing that.

Okay so how do we do ice cream at 11 if the place doesn't even open till noon? Sorry I mentioned the whole dance thing let me explain:
Meet at 11, 11:10 head to park, play games. After a while go eat, whether it be ice cream or if anyone wants to also/just get lunch that's okay. Depending on the time we can either bring it back to the park, eat there, or eat walking back to the con. I have to be back at Stage Zero by about 1:45 so you all may stay ofc and I may just leave if things go that way.
Dancing was just an extra idea-something I wanted to do but didn't know when I'd get around to it. Thought maybe if others wanted to go participate in it too then it'd be more fun to be together, so I put the idea of meeting up for dancing lessons for anyone interested, but it's not necessarily related to this thread. I figure we'll be busy having fun from 11to at least noon if not longer so there really isn't a way we could fit in those dance lessons at that time unless we all wanted to do something like that, sorry. I think that that is just something we can plan separately. Comprende?
Also: Jerry's rice mess is in another forum. Good luck dealing with that one :P. And I figured we were all old enough to wear something appropriate and maintain ourselves appropriately for our meeting, in regards to cleansliness and whatnot. :P
I can meet you guys at the Ice Cream place like around noon cause I'll be busy with a shoot at 11 a.m. I'll be showing up, just a little bit late

Anyway as far as the gathering goes, I'm letting the official time and date be set at this:
11am on Friday we'll meet at Stage Zero. I'll do my best to make a sign to let you all know. At 11:10 am the plan is to head off for the park to play games and whatnot. From there we'll head to food/ice cream. You may all stay out longer if you want, but I have to be back at Stage Zero by about 1:45 Pm.
If anything else is needed to be said or asked or mentioned I'll be on as late as I can tonight and I'll be on tomorrow but from a more mobile device as I'm leaving home rather early tomorrow. I can be accessible by the forums and PM at least up until about 4 or 5 pm tomorrow, then from there out I don't know what will happen. Let me know! Hope to see you all there! ;D

For those of you who went to the Black and White Ball when did you leave? I got their about 8:30 or 9 and the only person I saw was Absolutely Cursed. We traveled around the floor in a conga line but otherwise I didn't go out there more than once to dance with a friend I'd dragged with me.
i say 2011, we get our own panel room! parade around the con, and have our own banner and photoshoot xD

A photoshoot would be fun I guess. xP I had wanted to start up an introduction but some of us left and we did it when only 5 or so were left and it was fun. (Goodness my grammar is shot xP)

Bummer! Looks like I missed just about everyone time-wise. Don't know how I missed you in the gaming room though, after the dance my friend and I went in our B&W Ball clothes and played DDR and Para Para.

I wanted to try the DJ MAX machine It's the first time that I've seen one in real life. I did get some video of other players playing it though. It seemed really fun when they organized a line and rotate turns.
I had to wait in line with my friend for his badge and missed this.
I went to the park to see if anyone was around and didn't see a gathering so I went to the Street Fighter Third Strike tournament.
Hope to see you guys next year though :D

Combine the two, chinese is good, and possibly after since it won't conflict with the date :D
We should tie this in with the badge gathering it makes the most sense that way, but having more summer parties makes sense too.

Well I haven't gotten any emails about it yet honestly. Last year we were getting it about this time and it was towards the end of June, like....the 28th last year and the email came in on the second. (I know, it's pathetic that I don't clean out my email inbox -.-') So if it is happening we should hopefully get contacted soon about when.

Dead Dog is essentially a Thank you Staff party for Fanime.
again technically only meant for Staff- cuz we liked did alot of work at Fanime :P
usually its a month or so after detoxing from Fanime Con itself and assuming that e-mails are sent out accordingly.
We Rovers will have our own Fanime Rover's Detox party and it will probably be a beach / bbq [or both] or just get silly at my place.
either way, Fanime will live on so long as us cool people who gather for it find random other reasons to hang out everyone once in a while.
thus why this Meetings and gatherings subforum threads exist :D

well i think i'm sitting across from absolutelycursed there but hid from the camera, if I remember correctly. Unless this picture was taken after I left. At any rate, that was really fun and we should do that next year! We'll bring a sign too, so people can see us when we gather at the con center!

no worries - its been really quiet for a while and we can either plan mini gatherings for upcoming epic movies (like Harry Potter or Tron Legacy) or just all meet up at a local mini Con.
