WARNING: SPOILER THREAD
In other words;
There are some anime which have strong emotional effects to its viewers. For the authors; they enjoying shring the emotions of their viewers through anime by creating scenarios which makes the viewers cry in sadness such as the death of a character, cry laughing due to intense funniness and irony, and/or cry in happiness by feeling overwhelmed. Or something like that.
So I come to the question...
Which anime had strong emotional effects on you (storyline-wise) and how did it make you feel overwhelmed?
I'll be frank in some of my answers.
Pokemon (w00t?): When Ash attempts to abandon Pikachu; big time tear-jerker for young children.
End of Comic Party (Manga): Touching scene between Mizuki and Kazuki; felt happy; don't know why, but I just kept smiling after I read it.
Negima!: Sayo's saga; the flower garden and sister's wish. I really liked the part.
Saber Marionette J: Marionette's sacrifice for the world. One of the first for me.
hm.. hoshi no koe was really sad TT__TT so was um.. that one... graves of the fireflies! yea, that was sad too T-T;
kimi ga nozomu eien..
that one epsode of pokemon when ash decides to let pikachu stay with the other pikachu's...yes i was little and i cried so hard o__o
I cried when i watched grave of the fire flies too ;_;
xD when i watched Doraemon when Nobita wishes that everyone was gone, towards the end i shedded a tear. it was so saaad =(
the second movie of cardcaptor sakura, towards the end i shedded a few tears because it was so cute and it touched me so ;_; yes im a cry baby
Kanon caught me on the first run-through, AIR the second. And as for Key works that aren't anime yet, Planetarian killed me. I can't play that game without crying anymore.
Some of the stuff at the end of I! My! Me! Strawberry Eggs -- the dub, mind you -- made me cry for some reason. I don't know why. But after that, I started wholly respecting decent dubs.
Kanon still makes me sad when I watch it... as long as I conveniently forget episode 13. Air makes me cry too.
saikano still tears me up sometimes. episode 9, the "akemi" episode can break anyone.
Kimi ga nozomu ein was pretty sad too.
I'm a guy and... uh... I'm a big crying baby.
These are the ones in the past year that did for me.
AIR TV made me cry like a bitch!!!!
Kimi ga Nozomu Ein made me cry at a point.
Comic Party made me cry for some reason.
Green Green made me cry at a point as well.
DN Angel made me cry alot.
Midori no Hibi made me cry sometimes.
Bleach somehow pulled it off.
Elfen Lied made me cry.
Love Hina made me cry when I was gonna first watch it because I loved the manga and then it made me angry and wish it to burn in hell after how they changed it.
And the list goes on for a while... I.. just.. uh... have to remember which ones made me cry.
I usually don't cry much at anime, so I don't have much.
Chrno Crusade
Sailor Moon
Key the Metal Idol
Escaflowne
Chobits
One episode of Sailor Moon and some other moments I can't think of right now.
Um, you forgot to mention that this thread might have spoilers!
....
Haven't seen all of SMJ yet...
I'm not afraid to admit that I cry at a lot of shows. But some of the big ones for me have been:
-AIR: The whole freakin' story is so tragic.
-Card Captor Sakura: I just couldn't stop the tears of joy after finishing the manga
-Full Moon wo Sagashite: A lot of sad stuff.
-Fushigi Yuugi: Nuriko. Enough said.
-Ichigo 100%: So many sad moments in this series. I was sobbing uncontrollably at the end of the 3rd year high school culture festival. If you read the manga, you know what moment I'm referring to.
-Kanon: Makoto's story.
-One Piece: Arlong and Alabasta arcs especially. I've read through Alabasta, but not past it.
-Saber Marionette J: The last half or so of this series was just tear-jerker after tear-jerker
I agree with Spirit on the planetarian. It's not an anime though, so it's not on the list. =P
I remember bawling when Setsuko died in Grave of the Fireflies...
especially that pathetic funeral her brother set up. I couldn't stop crying for half an hour...
I cried when Ash tried to leave the pikachu behind with the other pikachu's as well.
For some reason I slightly cried, more so felt weird at the end of Gravitation. I think it's that ending song or something.
I don't exactly cry but at the end of a lot of anime's (last episodes) I'll get this weird feeling that I can't explain.
2 Parts in One Piece. Happy cry though which was great. They may be the same ones that Tsubasa was refering to.
I think I cried for the end of Millennium Actress but I can't remember.
It's pretty crazy for me that an anime can stir up so much emotion, but then again thats just another reason I love it.
Spirited Away, when they were falling through the sky.
Neon Genesis Evangelion, at the end of the TV series. I still feel alone about that.
And Gunbuster! The end was completely in contrast to everything before it, but the style, the sacrifice, and the thought of coming back after all those years was awesome.
I actually didn't cry during Grave of the Fireflies... I just felt terrible.
Air: the ending mostly... and parts of it...
Kanon: Makoto's and Aya's stories.
Full moon o sagashite: I've only read the manga so far but its sad.
Grave of the fireflies: It was too depressing for me.
X: The ending always make me cry.
Saiyuki: certain story lines... >.>
Parts of princess mononoke and howl's moving castle, and the one with the racoon-dogs...
A lot of mangas make me cry also... >.>
"Grave of the Fireflies" and some parts of "Fruits Basket". Now to think of a series that made me cry because it was finally over.... XD
x_- M'GOD.. I forgot Rayearth! All versions of Rayearth are sad. ;_; CLAMP anime are usually really sad... mrrf. Gotta watch some funny anime now.
Kimi ga nozomu Eien... I wept...
SaiKaNo.. Drove me to tears...
Grave of the Fireflies... I needed tissues...
Fruits Basket... Smudged my eyeliner...
Millenium Actress... I sobbed like a little girl...
There... Now you know my weaknesses...
Air TV because it was so beautifully done. The reflection on life at the end made it worthwhile.
Elfen Lied
Not sure why. I guess it was the whole dark atmosphere in it and some dark truths, but it got wierd at times.
Evangelion because it changed my perspective on life.
The final ten minutes of Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water's finale; Shiro Sagisu's track "Going Home" is just so eloquently done and so overwhelming that in combination with the final minutes, always causes me to break down.
Listening to the english dub of steel angel kurumi. That almost made me cry.
When I didn't watch the Oscars, I cried.
Edit: It had Howl's Moving Castle at the least.
Quote from: "Tsukai Mori"When I didn't watch the Oscars, I cried.
I'm not so sure...are the Oscars an anime? '_'
-Pokemon, "Pikachu's Goodbye": Yeah, like everyone else XD I cried during this episode like a lil girl~
-Mahoromatic: The ending of Mahoromatic when Mahoro sacrificed herself D: I couldn't stop crying...and then I went back a bit and watched the scene over again and cried some more. And then that part after she did that when Suguru-san was older and such and he saw Mahoro again when he died. That also made me cry like a little girl.
-Chobits; episode 26 "A Person Only for Chii": Made me cry the most I think. >_< I dunno why, but I like going back and specifically watching those scenes ocer and over again. o_o;
Uhm, something in "Midori No Hibi" might have made me cry, but I don't remember. Guess it's time to watch it again to find out. :D
Quote from: "Ruby"-Pokemon, "Pikachu's Goodbye": Yeah, like everyone else XD I cried during this episode like a lil girl~
I cried more when Misty gave Ash her handkerchief before heading back to Cerulean City.....that definitely was a powerful moment...
I also nearly cried at the end of Spirited Away...many wonderful moments in there! ^^
Quote from: "Absolute0"I remember bawling when Setsuko died in Grave of the Fireflies...
especially that pathetic funeral her brother set up. I couldn't stop crying for half an hour...
Same here. Cried like a baby for like, an hour. When I first watched it I had a younger sister about Setsuko's age. So, yeah...hard.
Also in Naruto when Zabuza and Haku die. That part's sad...and Gaara's backstory.
Sailor Moon Sailor Stars- multiple times during the last 3-4 episodes
Millennium Actress- I cried like my dog just died.
Fushigi Yuugi- yeah, the Nuriko ep., like everybody else and Nakago's
flashback sequence in ep. 52.
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noburu Sora made me cry. Narcissu (the anime game) also made me cry (which isn't shocking since both are similar). Also, Air made me cry, but in a different way. In Air I cried for the characters, but in Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora I cried because well, empathy.
As to why I posted seriously on the topic now, it is just because I felt like it.
Fushigi Yuugi Nuriko episode big time tears and needed lots of tissue.
Unrelated to anime but wanted to share. Snoopy Come Home movie when Snoopy leaves Charlie Brown. Watched when I was a kid and cried.
Fruits Basket, in one episode where Akito went crazy after Hatori told him he wanted to marry Kana and Hatori was forced to erase her memory and episode 17 when Tohru was telling Kisa's mother why Kisa couldn't tell her that she was bullied and ran away from home. I saw that episode the first time in Fanime '04 too. Brought tears to my eyes.
Grave of the Fireflies, very very tear-jerking moment.
Naruto(can't remember episode), when Haku and Zabuza(sp?) dies.
Bleach, when Rukia leaves with Renji and Byakuya to Soul Society to be executed and Ichigo is left alone in the rain.
I've cried in almost every horror anime I've ever seen.
This one episode of Vampire Princess Miyu left me depressed for a good week or so...(4+ years ago)
trigun, when wolfwood dies..
Quote from: "Ruby"-Pokemon, "Pikachu's Goodbye": Yeah, like everyone else XD I cried during this episode like a lil girl~
See, but here's the thing: Ash left Butterfree
for real.
Now that made me cry.
Grave of the Fireflies-the characters had believable human emotions that made the sad scenes in the film all that much more tearjerking.
End of Evangelion- I didn't cry per se, but I felt really depressed for like a week.
pokemon, when the three original cast members split up. that hit me hard...
vandread 2nd stage, when dita grabbed hibiki's hand
various others, i just cant recall
Serial experiments Lain...after staying up for two days and watching that entire series in one sitting.
and FLCL when you find out that the kid was just being used by Hanako
FMA...sorta... :(
Grave of the Fireflies. That movie will make people without tearducts weap buckets.
My first anime, Sailor Moon, when Darien tells Sarena he doesn't want to be with her any more and she goes and sobs in a telephone booth.
Chobits (anime) When Chi like dies/explodes or whatever
Inuyasha- when kagome sees Kikyo and and Inu together.
FAN FICTION! kind of off topic, but seriously. How many tear jerkers are there out there for all the anime fics? ::Sob::
Quote from: "Green_Tea"FAN FICTION! kind of off topic, but seriously. How many tear jerkers are there out there for all the anime fics? ::Sob::
Depends on the pairing.
For example, a little piece of my heart dies every time I see Genis x Lloyd (or, worse, Riku x Maleficent) fanfiction.
I will be honest.
In pokemon when Ash lets butterfree go so he can go have other butterfree's ^-^';'; Their goodbye was sooo sad! T.T
My list of the most tear-jerking (yes, in order):
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (the ending...just freakin amazing. Course, it can't beat Tae Guk Gi, but yeah...I think a tear managed to come out of my eye when he...ok, won't spoil. :P)
Full Moon o Sagashite (one of few movies/shows where I cry over a happy ending...well, I wasn't sobbing..but my eyes got teary, and yes..that rarely happens. When Takuto...dang, can't spoil. But yes, also one of my biggest favorites.)
Naruto Episode 19 (need I say more? The snow, the two laying there...perfect and definitely had my eyes water.)
SaiKano (though throughout the whole series I was just plain bothered by the character drawings, the ending really hit me and I found myself depressed for a couple of days. Won't go into details here either since I'd have to hint at spoilers to explain...)
Okay... Not Anime... but.. You got to give credit where it is due...
Battle Royale Special Edition Directors Cut.
The parts that were added in... Just... Made me feel for the characters more... and... *Sniffle*
I have never cried while watching an anime. One or two books have pulled it off, a couple movies have gotten me very close, but anime? Not really. Though I do sometimes just kind of get in a depressive funk of a mood from anime like AIR... it's not quite depression, though. It's partly a wonderment and a wistful vision of the world, or something...
I live for those moments.
Miami Guns made me cry from laughter several times.
The final couple episodes of Kashimashi Girl meets Girl made me cry.
*SPOILER ALERT*
The last episode especially. I cried out of sadness when Tomari ran accross the river for Hazumu. And then again out of joy when Hazumu hugs Yasuna and Yasuna regains her vision.
Not really anime but the end of Secret of Mana pulled a tear from me for some reason.
And Nana Live Action Movie made me cry just a little when....
*SPOILER ALERT*
Nana finds Shoji and Sachiko kissing. Kinda embarrasing cause I saw it for my first time at Fanime this year. Glad the viewing room was dark!
I cried when Luffy defeated both Crocodile and Enel in One Piece. Mostly because those two arch's in particular are extremely long and I was happy to finally see them taken out.
i cried watching the ending of Fruits Basket
and there is a nother anime that i cried in, but i cannot pronounce nor remember the name
but Loktera know's
it's about these two teenagers in a hospital. They are both sick and soon develop a very close relationship.. IT's really cute and sad
Also i cried in Honey and Clover

The funny thing is, the closest thing I can think of is Narcissu (http://narcissu.insani.org/), a visual novel.

Actually... It is "Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora" (åŠåˆ†ã®æœˆãŒã®ã¼ã,‹ç©º (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6300))
thank you Loktera

Yeah. Both those got me, too... Planetarian-- so far my image collection of that game is really depressing. ;-; AIR's MOVIE, however... they made it so dramatic, it got me sobbing.
- - -
KGNE got me crying-- I felt so sorry for Haruka. I kind of empathasized what Kazuki was going through, but I did kind of hate her for a moment. =|
Karin: when Karin's family SEEMINGLY died, it got to me. I mean, god damn.
The end of
Jigoku Shoujo, when Tsugumi's father had to rewatch his wife's death and admit his fault. That was much.
DeathNote (Thought not an anime) made me sob when L died, even if they didn't make it all that dramatic. I loved L. T.T
The ending of
Card Captor Sakura when Syaoran had to leave Sakura was a bit of a tear-jerker at the time.
Fullmetal Alchemist made me cry several times, but MOSTLY when Edo was killed by Envy. Omg.
Tsukihime got me to cry when Kohaku died. She's like... my favorite character. And one of the other character's death, but something she said pissed me off... so scratch that.
SHUFFLE! made me cry several times, but I don't quite remember why. Maybe when Kaede was going through that mental breakdown, or when Primula was dying. Gah.
YamiBou got me to cry when Eve had to leave Hatsuki all alone.
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu made me cry a bit, but out of laughter. It was kind of random when Kyon said "Ponytails turn me on" out of nowhere, and kissed Haruhi. XD; There were other parts, too... like when Mikuru was singing her theme song in the first episode, or when Haado Gei appeared in the 12th.
Yeah.. that's all that'll pop out of my brain for now. I'll add more if I can think of any. >>;

Ah, most of mine were already mentioned but...
QuoteDeath Note: When L died...omg.
Gakuen Heaven(I know...most people'll shoot me for this) but when it ended, I was like "WTF?! THAT'S IT!?"
Kyou Kara Maou: When Yuuri had to go back to Earth, he was like "Ja" then Wolfram said "Yuuri..." then Yuuri said "Sayonara..." It was this little clip in an AMV that had spoilers. Even though, it made me cry...escpecially when Wolfram cried...
Also during the Conrad Betrayal Arc. I first cried because it was like "WHY CONRAD, WHY?!" then I cried because I was so relieved Conrad wasnt seriously betraying Yuuri
Kingdom Hearts 2: When Axel died. I know some people said that he maybe faked it, but it was jsut so...*tear*
Fullmetal Alchemist The Movie: I sorta forgot how it went because it's been about 5 months since I watched it, but I remember I cried a lot.
Naruto: ...a lot of times. When Haku died, Lee almost died/his struggle, Gaara's past, when Kimimaro died, Neji/Chouji almost died, and Sasuke leaving...but then I also cried when I was so relieved to find them saved and still alive...
Gravitation: Just sorta explains itself in a way.
Highlight for spoilers I guess...
I know some of those arent anime but it still made me cry
I've cried a lot for a lot of things so it's hard to keep track >.>
I'm a blubbering baby for at least 90% of the episodes found in Eureka Seven :X

OMG!! KGNE aka Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien!! The ending....It made me feel so depressed for a week. I cried like a little baby when the two parted ways, and I hated Mitsuki so much for that!! ARGH!! This Ugly Yet Beautiful World, I loved the series! But once again the ending...It kills me!! Naruto, the whole Haku and Zabuza thing. Along with the funeral of
QuoteThe 3rd Hokage!
Advent Children, well not really made me cry, but I still felt sorry for what's his name near the end. Gundam Seed!! THE DEATH OF FLAY!!! Although she was a little...She really didn't deserve to die!! I mean come on!! She could have payed for what she did another way, but not thru death!! I cried there...Then in Gundam Seed Destiny I cried when

Quote from: "Ari"I will be honest.
In pokemon when Ash lets butterfree go so he can go have other butterfree's ^-^';'; Their goodbye was sooo sad! T.T
I totally agree. I watched Pokemon...oh, I'd say 7 years ago now I probably watched Bye Bye Butterfree for the first time. I bawled like a baby.
Also in that episode where Ash has to try and let Pikachu go...I cried again.
And in the Pokemon movie where Ash "dies". Yeah, I sobbed in the movie theater and people didn't want to sit by me.
Non Pokemon....
Grave of the Fireflies
The third or fourth time I watched Zabuza and Haku die in Naruto...I cried.
The end of Prince of Tennis (wtf? I know).
And Death Note left me crying and depressed for days. DAYS.
((I cry easily over anime))
I'm pretty darn new to anime, so I'd say Great Teacher Onizuka Live Action (I know,I know,it's not anime, but it still was HELLA touching)
Thread necro time!
'Kay, so I just remembered this--and it's not anime, but I can't think of any anime series that made me cry, so whatever. If anybody read the manga series X-Day (well, I dunno if you can call it a series with a total of two volumes, but again, whatever)--in the second volume after the story ends, there's this unrelated short story called, I think, "The Last Supper," and when I first read that, I totally had the sniffles by the end of it. I'd make a Lambda costume someday if I were taller (despite the fact that barely anybody would recognize it).
