Quote from: "elenaluz"Man, now I'm conflicted.  I want to see Yaoi Bingo again.  And now it looks like one of my friends' 21st birthday is on Friday, on Yuri night.

Does anyone know if Masquerade and AMV Contest will also be on that Saturday night?

Masquerade is on Sunday night at the CPA.. AMV contest, from what I heard from the guy running it, will be showns several times over the weekend so nobody has to sacrifice too many things to watch it.

Staff & Volunteers / staff badges
May 01, 2007, 10:47:32 AM
Quote from: "baocong"oh my o.o... well... i'm in registration.... i hope its not like that ._. so all i need is an account for staff members? how do i give my fan name and everything then?

You should have signed up in the staff page (www.fanime.com/staff) and been accepted by the department head to be on staff. At this point, staffing closes today (May 1st). After that, the site gets locked down and changes can't be made to the staffing lists.

Staff don't have fan names.. We just get a badge with our name, department, and division.

Hope this helps...

General Convention Discussion / survival tips
April 28, 2007, 09:49:29 PM
If you're staying overnight, bring food.

There's so much to do that leaving the convention center even for a meal can be... hard.

Also, this is slightly random but related all the same. The San Jose Mercury newspaper is planning to run an article on survival guides on the local conventions (us, Kubla, and Baycon). So, if you guys don't mind, I'll be collecting tips (not the anecdotes) and sending them off to the newspaper.

General Convention Discussion / Badge Art?
April 28, 2007, 03:18:08 PM
Staff can have customized art work on their badge.. Last year, I had my department sporting a comic of Little Gamers.

But otherwise, I don't know how else to answer your question....

Stamp Rally was discontinued this year..

It makes me feel sad because it was one of the departments under mine for its second year (last year). It was a lot of fun.

(Updated, 5/9/07)

Hi all,

Press/Industry pre-registration has closed!

If you missed the window of opportunity, don't worry! You can still register at Fanime, starting Friday. Please check the Professionals page for hours and what you'll need to bring with you in order to register as press or industry.

Just like Registration, we are getting a lot of email coming in. If you've sent us an email, please be patient. We'll get to you as soon as possible.

Thanks!

General Convention Discussion / video game concert
April 06, 2007, 06:00:46 PM
Yup, it's true... It's at the CPA which is like a block away ^_^

There's even a discount for Fanime members. The discount is $6 for most seats and $10 for those special seats near the front.

We'll have more information up on the website soon...

Putting the official hat aside (meaning, I'm not speaking for Fanime or programming) and speaking a little from personal experience, working with other people outside of Fanime puts you on their time schedule, not yours. So, you can have everything planned out down to the date, and the other people can and will blow your carefully planned schedule to hell. And sometimes, it's even you who's responsible for blowing it because you got sick, personal situations came up, or you just needed a break from your split personality lives.

Anyways, I think I can say that those of us at Fanime who put in a ton of hard work to get our guests would have loved to give you something as early as January...

Oh, putting the official hat on for a sec, Fanime does have some guests to announce soon.. I think they have to do with music fest... I think I heard it's probably going to be longer than just a night.... something about one of them only playing on Thursday night as a "we so totally got lucky they wanted to play at Fanime again before going on to their big weekend gig".. I wasn't really paying attention (give me a break, it's my glorified 4 day weekend my dumb butt college calls a spring break), but you know, that sort of announcement.

General Convention Discussion / Fanime at WonderCon!
February 28, 2007, 01:17:41 PM
Fanime has a booth at WonderCon this weekend, March 2-4, at the Moscone Center.

Drop by the booth if you're in the area to chat, ask questions (about anything), and check out the display of Fanime's history as well as current guests (who knows, there may be a surprise or two..) and new things up and coming at Fanime.

See you there at booth #241!

Staff & Volunteers / So.... is it too late?
February 24, 2007, 06:08:02 PM
I already posted in your suggestions post, and hopefully, Tony will update the website with volunteer information.

Usually, you become a volunteer (or vol for short) by signing up at the convention with Vol HQ. You'll need a member badge first, though.

As for staffing, we still need staffers. So, go ahead and sign up for the staff site and check off which departments you're interested in. The department head should contact you after that point.. The staffing will close before the con, so sign up now if you're interested..
