Well, sorry about your situation, but don't worry too much.

Being older makes you see the tricks big companies try to push on. Those limited editions are not really 'limited"

Any way, there are a hand full of other stores that carry anime dvd/blurays. Right Stuff is not the only game in town.
There is always eBay, and if need be, Japan's version of eBay. You can easily try there.

As of this post, there are countless of store that have K-On "limited" editions for sale.  And as much as I dislike Sword Art Online, that steaming pile of well... there are tons of "limited" blurays out there. Worry not about that title ever running out.

As for a job, worry about that. Make your own money to buy what you want. Yes those box sets are pricey but if you can wait, their value drops year by year.
Case point: I remember wanting to get Cowboy Bebop Remix box set in bluray. it was one of those "limited editions" in a tin box. At release it was $150. No less then 2 years later I found over 10 or those tin box sets for $40 each.  Now you can get them for $25 in the 'limited edition tin box" LOL

Hotel and Facilities / Re: First Fanime Hotel Help

Welcome,
Yes there is such a thread for hotel roommates. They'll be active once the hotels pricing for next year is up. Also, there is Facebook groups you could find.

Here is last years hotel roommate thread.

Saw the AX with by live streaming this year....Fanime needs to step it up

Lol yeah, it's been years and years of people trying to float some ideas to Fanime.  But, in the end Fanime ends up just being Fanime. I could guess and make countless threads or just revisit the countless posts about this same subject, but eh, too much work.

Then again....... you kind of end up getting what you pay for. Hell, look how much AX badges have gone up. But then look at all the line ups they got going.

Guess what I'm saying that's maybe why Fanime always had its own charm, like maybe next year it would be like (fill in the con name here) but next year it's a notch different.

Don't feel too bad about this. It was only one day, nor just a few hours of "training". You do have the right mind set to seek out more classes. But like with anything physical, you need time and practice.

Keep in mind that you did learn something even if you failed you still know moves that you didn't know before. That alone gives you more knowledge and where not to be if you are in such a situation.

My own sister had the same experience when she took a self defense class. And she's a very small frame girl. For her the instructor told her if she feels under powered the best course of action would be to carry a legal personal weapon. You can fill in the blank on what that would be.

For her the piece of mind she got back with having a legal personal self defense weapon made her feel she a level shot on the playing field.  But then again she did have a nice week long course that covered everything.

Keep your head up and think in positive attitude about this. It's like taking dancing lessons your fist go at it always go bad. Or your moves are not as polished. By your second or thrid time you would be 50% better, and you would only improve as you keep learning.

Remember take it with a grain of salt, you did take a short self defense class at an anime con, not saying it's bad or anything like that. But it was just a big blanket of basic self defense moves meant for a one size fits all type of deal. I'm sure if the class was another 2 hours longer I'm sure you would have walked away with a better out look.

I hope I didn't sound negative by all this I just know where your coming from as my sister had the same reaction the fist day of class.

Lol oh you guys.
;D
Yes I mean Safeway. And actually there are both Vons and Safeways in so cal.
Yes thanks for clearing up the location. The donut place is where it's at.
You may get lucky sometimes not. I had a buddy of mine had to pay for 2 nights of hotel parking then found a spot at the parking garage for the rest of the con.

I'll see you people at Fanime, if my boss decides not to work overtime. Well'll see, fingers crossed

As far as I know the parking garage next to Vons still does the free parking on Memorial Day. So you can leave your car Thursday and drive off Scott free Monday.

Interesting news. There's always a first. Remember a few years ago Japan Expo? That one was a weird one. Guess the feedback wasnt that good with their silly in/out policy.

Seeing as Curnchyroll has been to all kinds of cons I'm sure they might be up to par. Eh who knows? I'll give it a shot if nothing else is going on.

Registration / Re: Reg Location 2017

Yep, well it's not their first rodeo.
Anything can happen. As with Fanime tradition everything will be announced days before the start to the con.
Eh here's hoping for the best.

Hi! I was wondering if someone very talented could make me a cosplay? Willing to pay handsomely, but would prefer not to haha. Anyway, the cosplay I want made is Annie from the video game Story of seasons. I have pictures but I'm not sure how to post them, as I am new.

Well, if you're talented at making cosplays let me know  :)

I would recommend you try to find it online. Chances are you could find a store that has it.

Also if you plan on commission it out, find a local well trusted person that has done commission work before.
I had a bad experience from some dude here, over a simple cosplay work. Hopefully things might have changed since then.

Best of luck.

Well, the whole ghost in the shell movie plot/theme would actually work out well now a days.
It doesn't have to be set in Japan the whole story could be moved to anywhere in the world, given its set in the future.  While I do like to see a live action clone of the tv series played out, I'll give this a shot.

Hell, it might just be as good as Edge of Tomarrow. Incase you missed the memo that was a manga turned Hollywood movie called All You Need is Kill.  For me that was a dam good movie. I never knew it was a manga till I read the credits.

So it actually might have a shot. The whole reason I think why most anime to Hollywood movies suck, it's because they are kiddy shows trying to be serious in the movie. It just does not translates well.  Given ghost in the shell is no where near kiddy, the story could be on par with Ex Machina movie.

Unless they totally shit on everything and it flops royally the whole plot, then yeah.  Who knows.

Panels and Workshops / Re: 2017 Panel Requests!
August 26, 2016, 11:51:46 PM
Interesting idea, and possible to do.
Not sure how well the stages would be great for dancing.  Then there is the participation accpect. How many people will be willing to sign up for it? Depending on how many people are willing to be in it, it could be more of an event than a panel.

Setting it up is the easy part. Finding contestants that's the hard part. You kind of have to start pulling some Facebook type event/post just to gauge interest. You'll have zero luck just posting here on the forums.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Average Cost?
August 03, 2016, 07:26:09 PM
Yep, from $80-140 is the going rate. Could be more next year maybe by a few dollars.
Anyway you have the initial room price per night but also the taxes.

8% sales tax
14% bed tax
$25 parking fee (depends on which hotel.)

Your looking at around $488-$854 total for 5 day night

The only thing that's bad about debit card is the extra $100-200 hold. If you have extra money or don't depend on using that your good to go.

Well, I only speak for myself, but if you can have enough time for to fit in a panel go for it. It could be a nice panel type show. Fanime could always use more interesting panels.
That being said I never played the games I just heard of it and one YouTube game play of it.

Hi Guys!

This is my first time attending any sort of anime convention. I do plan on Cosplaying, but I don't want to go dressed up, as it is a bit hot. Are there rooms where we could change? If so where could I find them? I'd like to verify something else as well. For registration I go to marriott first to pick up my badge and THEN walk to the convention center right? In regards to peace bonding, where would I go to get it branded? Lastly. Would I expedite the process by registering online as opposed to  a "walk in" to pay for my day pass since I have to go to the marriot anyways to pick up the badge?

Thanks in advanced! ;D

Hopefully you'll get this in time,
As for cosplaying, you don't have to cosplay to have fun, just go as you are. But if you want to there are no changing rooms. Just the restrooms. If you are ok with changing in there, then do that. If not just come with your cosplay on.

For registration it's best to do it on line and pick it up at the Marriott. Don't worry the Marriott is connected to the convention center so you really don't have to walk a whole lot. Just ask people or staff where the reg line is at.

Once you get your badge you'll get a goodie bag with all the info you need. Just find the map to where peace bonding is.

Have fun.

If you don't have a drivers license apply for a state ID at the dmv.
Although it's too late now to get the physical card but, usually takes about 3 weeks.

If I was you I'll do it asap, they would give you a temporary photo print out from the dmv. So it's official state ID.

Yep. As long as it's with in the rules it's ok.
As far as what you'll see, you'll see mostly anime related, but you'll see a bit of everything. From video games, Doctor Who, Star Wars/Trek, to random Furries.

You kind of answered your own question. Panels could be fan made as well, just depends if your showcasing something or dropping some knowledge on a certain show, game, etc...

That's why they have a brief description on the panel/fan event in the fanime program guide. It's there for you to decide if it's worth going or skipping it.
