Can a baby attend?
ooo..
that is a very good question
and unfortunately i have absolutely no idea
i know that children below a certain age have free admission to the con itself. but i don't know about the ball
can't see why not, but i will let rebecca give the official answer cuz i actually am not 100% sure about that

mmm...from pictures i can see that it falls juuuuust right about the knee but we need to make absolutely sure that it'll be below the knees.
if ur able to add some sort of fabric or maybe a shift underneath it that'll cover below the knees then that'd be okay

another way of testing is to do the kneeling test.
while wearing the dress and having your back straight and all, kneel on a hard surface
if the dress doesn't touch the floor then its still considered too short

hope that helps

is there a specific end date for online registration?
as in, what is the last day to register online?

Helo! I have a question.

I am planning on wearing a cosplay that is not to dress code as-is because the highest part of the skirt is well above my knees. I was thinking of wearing a pair of knee-length lolta-style bloomers underneath. Would this be aceptable, and if not, what can I do to make this cosplay fit dress code while still keeping its aesthetic? (I can wear a longer skirt under it, but it wouldn't fit the look as well)

thanks

i would say that anything underneath that'll cover down to your kenes would be acceptable. either like a slip or something.
i cant say anything about the bloomers...cuz i actually have no idea what that is XD

but if you feel comfortable wearing it, it looks good with your cosplay, AND it'll cover u to below the knee, then i don't see why it should be a problem

I also have a question on the dresses! I have 3 separate designs, one of which I will make for the ball (if its allowed) and I just wanted to run the designs by you before I start making them and have them all rejected.
The links are posted in priority/preference. the first and last design feature skin tone stretch fabric on the midriff, just to clarify.

just gotta say, love the designs overall

in particular for the last design, i'd stay away from it.
obviously we're not opposed to skin showing (as proven by strapless dresses and halter tops and stuff) but ur design seems to take it a BIIIIIT too far.
second design (the green and yellow one) is fine as long as the shortest part of the dress (the front) is below the knees
for the first design, again, if you could shy away from skin tone fabric that'd be great.
i love the design, but see if you can use like white fabric or something. a color that makes it obvious that its part of the dress and not ur skin

i don't know how specific skin-tone-fabric is as far as coloring goes, but anything that has the possible imagery of showing skin, might not be the greatest.

i'll have to let rebecca give her final note for the first design. but i say the design itself is fine. making sure the length is longer than the knees. just the whole midriff thing is kinda throwing me off

hope that helps

Hi! Can't wait for the ball! I just wanted to double check with you guys (even though it wasn't on the list, I want to make sure), whats your policy on plunging necklines? Its a full floor length skirt but with a plunging top and then a strap structure for holding it up, the plunge is like this:

http://www.hellousdaily.com/dlyhlls/wp-content/plugins/RSSPoster_PRO/cache/3d729_plunge-and-slit-dress.jpg

just no cleavage will be shown

thanks!

ehhh...i would not be comfortable seeing that on the dance floor. if you could have a safety pin to maybe hold it together, that might help a LITTLE...but i'm just not comfortable seeing the with the very real possibility of the dress showing a bit too much skin. i will let rebecca give the official final verdict, but i highly suggest you look at a different dress, or find a way to absolutely positively 100% secure the plunge in the middle.

hope that helps

Shout out to all the wonderful gals I danced with at the Black and White Ball, especially the short Asian gal who didn't know how to swing at the start of the dance, but was following like a pro by the end =).

I was the dapper gentleman with a top hat, bow tie, and chin-length bangs.  If any of you happen to be in the Bay area, let me know if you want to go dancing again =).
i think i MIGHT have danced the swing with you hahah
i was one of the staff members wit a multi-colored top and a black skirt.
but regardless, lets go dancing!

Just something I thought really funny. I was wearing a strapless dress that was almost too short for your dress code (but I'm pretty short and I passed the bend test) but before I did the test, the staffer asked me "Is there any way to pull down your dress to make it longer?"

.__________. I mean, I could have, but you'd be seeing a lot more top than bottom at that point and that'd probably be the least of your concerns then...
LOL
ur completely right about the whole 'seeing more of top than bottom' thing. i was one of the staffers early on (maybe u talked to me? lol) that was asking ladies to see if they could just keep the bottom skirt length as long as possible, meaning pulling it down. but thankfully most of the ladies that i asked that of had straps or sleeves of some type

i personally did that the whole 'try and pull ur skirt down' thing to allow some leeway if the skirts were JUST at the top of the kneecap but because of the tulle/frill/whatever that really itchy material is, it looked a bit shorter so i personally allowed that to slide.
however any lady whos skirt/dress CLEARLY was above the kneecap i unfortunately told them that they wouldn't be allowed in :(

I LOVE YOUR DRESS NANCYJADE!! I WISH I COULD HAVE SEEN U!!! :D

I will also add onto what Alfred posted.

i was one of the staff at the door for a period of time at the very beginning when people were JUST starting to come in (between 7pm-8pm)

- in relation to the difference between ballroom heels and regular heels, i do personally understand the difference. i know that 'ballroom shoes' were on the allowed list, but any heel with a circumference less than a nickel was not allowed as they are considered stiletto 'heels'. they're not stilettos per-say but they are still stiletto heels

- we try and post the dress-code wherever possible. be it facebook, the forums, on signs outside parkside hall, on the actual website and within the big program guide. if you know of anywhere else that we could post signs, please let us know. we want to make our event as fun as possible for everyone and that can only happen if ppl know how to properly dress for it

- for the stormtrooper thing, i am so sorry. i personally wasn't at the door and i dont think i actually saw the stormtrooper but that would have definitely not been allowed. for next year, if someone sees something like that, please let a staff or a rover know and we can handle it accordingly

- in regards to the 'some girls had mid-thigh length dresses', please believe that i actually did go up to many ladies inside the ball and ask them to either lower their skirts/dresses/whatever or they would have to leave. the communication between staffers and rovers have gotten A LOT better for this year, but obviously there is still some miscommunication. i apologize for that

any other comments, you can PM me or any of the other staffers or u can leave comments in here.
thank you for your patience and time.

Hey Fanime,

I remember hearing last year that there was a ballroom dance event for veteran/more experienced ballroom dancers. I didn't see anything listed in the schedule this year-- is this still on for 2013?

I'm looking to practice some Latin and rythmn -- hopefully with some out of towners in a social setting.

Anyone know what's up?

Thanks

the only thing that i could think of that comes close are either the private lessons or decompression
decompression is saturday night from 9-12. most (if not all) of the staff, instructors, assistants, whoever is left, they stay after and they dance around
i woudln't say its a formal ballroom event but u can dance more experienced
thats the only thing i can think of...
hope that helps
