General Convention Discussion / Re: Fanime 2008 Feedback thread.

Well whenever I asked the staff they must have informed me wrong /shrug

Oh well I'm not too worried nor upset about it ^^; The fact that they were giving away tickets in the AA and I didn't choose to get one shows that the concert wasn't really a big priority for me.

AA was even better this year :3 And to me that's pretty much the whole con right there (yes simple tastes I know but it's where almost all my friends are).

The only quibble I had was about the ANcafe tickets, I entered the code to save one yet when I checked at the right times on both Thrusday and Friday no tickets were availible. I ended up not going but that had more to deal with the fact that a friend of mine I planned on going with ended up not making the con then the seeming lack of tickets on day zero and one of the con.

The Dealer's Room did seem to lack as much variety but I hardly even consider spending money there so that didn't bother me as much as it possibly should.

I thought the St. Claire was pretty awesome, expect for the fact me and my friends ended up lending room space to a few other people and it got pretty crowded since the room isn't really big enough for more then four people (or three/four people with lots of cosplay). And it's hardly that far from the con plus there's no worry about elevator wait or anything of the sort.

Still rooming at the Fairmont next year. It's not that far from the convention at all. To me having rooms that large is something I certainly desire and it's a bit closer to restraunts I like (P.F. Chang's and E@O Trading Company). I plan on having a one cosplay a day next year; there's just no need for me to have a hotel room connected right to the convention center. And plus I plan on spending a lot of time with alot of my friends back at the hotel and the Fairmont rooms can hold the most people comfortably.

Hmm... mmm I might do school boy/megane Sasuke. But I'll consider it more if a certain friend of mine actually attends Fanime 2009 since she's a huge Sasuke fan.

Ahh yes I think that would help/I'd appericate that ^^; Since I'll need to use some when I commission someone to sew me the costume afterall.

General Convention Discussion / Re: Fanime-Con 2008...dissapointing?

Mmm I really enjoyed this years con over 06 and 07, but perhaps that's because this is the first time I actually stayed the full time (day and night). Also since I felt that Artist Alley this year was even more awesome then before and I spend a good 75-80 percent of my time at the con there chatting with friends and commissioning anyway all a good con experince for me entails for the most part an AA with lots of friends to chat with (and for me to have a decent amount of cash to commission art for me and friends).

The only large period of time I spent out of the Artist Alley was at a friend's cosplay photoshoot that was a lot of fun and very well planned out so no dissapointments there either ^^;

I was just talking to another friend about it yesterday. She actually hadn't read or watched it yet but I'm sure she will when she has the time.

I can't wait for the next chapter to come out * O *;;

I'm trying to get a bunch of friends to come to Fanime; I'll see if perhaps more of them would be willing to cosplay more characters from Soul Eater as well : )

I put off reading it for awhile since I at the time my friend (the one cosplaying Chrona) suggested to be back late last year I was really busy and hence lacked the time to read it. But it had been weighing on my mind since then and have been reading since mid April. It easily gained favor as one of my favorite manga series.

Well so far the only cosplay I'm doing for sure is Dr. Stein from Soul Eater (with my friend who is going to be Chrona). If I can get her or some other friends to do some Ragnarok Online cosplay with me I'll likely cosplay as the MVP Keil Hyre as well. Other cosplay I am considering right now is Itoshiki-sensei from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Watanuki from xxxHOLiC, Tezuka or Oshitari from Prince of Tennis, Chikusa, Irie or Glo from Hitman Reborn!, Komui from D. Gray, Shinpachi from Gintama... the sooner I find friends to cosplay series with the better since I have at least twenty plus cosplays I'd like to do sometime and once I find a friend who wants to cosplay from a series with me it makes everything alot easier.

This year in any case I actually do hope to have at one cosplay for everyday of the convention.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Guests I Want for Fanimecon 2009!!!!
« on: May 31, 2008, 04:10:54 PM »
Music wise I'd love to see capsule, Perfume, about any of the bands on the Contemode label.

I'd really love to meet Akira Amano but it would have been nicer to have had her for a guest before Reborn really caught on with alot of people. Other manga artists I'd love to meet would include Miwa Shirow, Ookubo Atsushi, Matsuei Yuusei, Kumeta Kohji, Oku Hiroya, and Hidekai Sorachi. We don't usually seem to have alot of mangaka's visit though.

Thanks for putting this together > O < I can't wait to see everyone's cosplay myself.

Ahhh well the couple of rooms at the Fairmont I hung out in didn't have any such problem, and all my friends who stayed there have only the most positive things to say about the hotel >____<;;

Sucks to hear your experience wasn't so good though.

I imagine I should be able to manage to make it, hopefully with a friend or two in tow. I just was talking to a friend about it today and she said it was really good so I'll defientely keep it in mind.

XD as for AX I'm certainly attending that.

Dealers Room / Re: Japan Video Games Domestic and Import Games

I hope you guys come back next year : 3 It was very excellent seeing a video game vendor there and I was interested in more then a few of your game offerings, sadly my funds this year were very limited.

/defientely wants to stock up on good JRPGS though

Registration / Re: Who already registered for Fanime 2009??
« on: May 30, 2008, 08:16:51 PM »
I spent what little money I had all at the con and lacked both money to prereg for the con in general for next year and for a table at the artist alley (which I want to do next year for sure). But once the website offers prereg I'll be all over it.

Ahh the AA <3 Always what I look forward most to in any convention I am lucky enough to attend. Excellent choice and variety of talented artists to commission (which is pretty much the only thing I spend money on there) and generally everyone was very friendly as well. I'd like to see a wider range of series covered in merchendise but it doesn't really matter since I'm not inclinced to buy prints and bookmarks and the likes anyway. But since I'm selling next year I'll probably try and help address the lack of prints of "obscure" series.

The AA in general never fails to please.

Haha defientely ; 3 It's one of the cosplays I most look forward to doing.

So far it's my only sure cosplay actually. But it's important that such an awesome character is cosplayed very well and I try and bring the highest quality to the cosplays I do (which I admit is not many since so far due to lack of funds for cosplays and wigs and general pickiness).

I'm very thrilled to see a Soul Eater cosplay meet being planned though and more then happy to particpate in such.

The heavy from Team Fortress 2 really stands out in my mind as a very excellent and perfectly excuted cosplay.

I also was impressed by a few very well done Death the Kids from Soul Eater, and some of the RO and Prince of Tennis and TTGL cosplay.

The more I think the more people come to mind XD;; But any cosplay that the person looks just like the intended character to me is a cosplay that merits attention : 3

Me and my friends roomed at the St. Claire. It was pretty nice (easy to access our room by stairs if need be) and the room was clean. Only problem was we ended up having a bunch of extra people crash our rooms and from what I've seen the two double bedded rooms offered at this hotel are the smallest of the four or five around the area (espically of the Fairmont, which is defientely the hotel I want to book for next year). But the St. Claire is a good venue, just not if you have an extra four people or more that end up crashing for the weekend =__= Very attractive hotel, rooms are just a bit on the small side.

.. and as for service I have no idea how good or bad it was. I was never around when the cleaners came and I never order room service so I have nothing to offer as far as that goes.

From what I've seen the Fairmont rooms are the best overall deal (size for the price) and the distance is really not an issue (easily five minutes at the maximum taking in street light wait). So I look forward to rooming in the Fairmont next year.

Oh haha I want to do this. Me and my friend planned on cosplaying Soul Eater anyway, it's one of our favorite mangas.

I'd be Stein and she'd be doing Chrona : D
