Will there be online signups for the karaoke contest this year, or only at-con? Assuming it's tomorrow at 6pm like previous years?

The Fanime twitter posted a link to the signups a week ago, but I guess they forgot to put it on the actual site. Doesn't seem to be filled up yet?
Going by the schedule (which also isn't properly linked on the main site, only in a news post...) it's check in at 3 and contest at 6 on Friday.
OH my god you're a life saver, just applied. Thank you!!

Thanks Ska!! :D I marked my first song as not being karaoke because I haven't found a karaoke version yet, but I'm gonna do my best to find or make one by the competition. >:3

I have a question! The rules state that convention staff are not allowed to join the competition - do I count as staff if I'm participating in Fanimaid?

So I've checked through most of the requests so far. A few of them we already had in the database, and there's only been a couple I'm not sure if we will be able to get in time. I just wanted to take a second to note a specific request --

Hi Ska! Thanks for getting The Official Post up! :D I do have a couple of questions about this year's karaoke contest.

1) Are the song time limits still 2:00 for the first round and 5:00 for the finals?
2) Is it still okay to add a note or two and a few moments of silence to the beginning of a karaoke track where the singing starts before the instrumentals?
3) Are we allowed to bring and or use props while on stage?
And, lastly, 4) It's still illegal to record your own harmonies to a karaoke track, right?

Thanks for taking up the mantle this year. Really looking forward to another excellent weekend of karaoke!

@Hiyuki - I've seen people use lyrics at the competition before, but I think it probably takes away from your stage presence points. It's much more engaging, as an audience member, when the singer is looking at you and singing to you, instead of to a piece of paper  ;)

@ Enkai - Can I just add the spice and wolf ending to the pile of english-lyrics songs that are totally eligible
Also, at least in 2013, the rules were that "Songs must be from the following categories: anime, vocaloid, video game, or J-rock/J-pop," so you could do things like Mother I'm Here or Build That Wall from the Bastion ost, or something from one of the metal gear games, or Melodies of Life, etc.

@ Nina - The second one has a really great cutoff at 2 minutes and also it's great, wow??? Yes, please??

Also, does anybody know if it's still okay to add your starting note(s) and a few moments of silence to a karaoke track where the singing starts before the instrumental track does? 8)

Hi! Thanks for starting the chat thread! : )

Hoping to compete for the third time this year, but I'm preparing some duets with a partner, and it's her first time. Super excited for signups... I'm checking the forums almost every day so I don't miss them : D

I hope work doesn't keep you from competing this year. The contest is always a blast!

hello >3>;;;

I competed several years ago, choked on the first song, and did not progress to finals. This year, if my life stabilizes and I'm able to attend Fanime (fingers crossed!) I'd like to compete with less personal pressure involved.

I'm thinking of these two songs~

Catch You Catch Me (cut to begin at 16 s)
and Ringo Biyori

I'm just so charmed by the engrish in these songs

Hope to join you all for karaoke fun times this year!

I have the opposite intro problem that a lot of people seem to have. xD  A song I'd like to sing has the vocals start a couple of seconds before the karaoke track does.  Should we try to coordinate when to start the karaoke track, should I have the track start a little further in and just skip the intro, or should I pick a different song entirely?

Thank you. :)
