Title: Sac-Anime?
Post by: SukebeStudios on June 13, 2009, 02:20:56 AM
Hey there, is anyone interested in going to Sac-Anime? I'm trying to find anyone that's willing to go. REQUIREMENT...must be upbeat (But not to the point of annoying) and able to help introduce to and make new friends.

I'm going! It'll be my 7th Sac-Anime. Will it be your first time attending? I'm always looking for new people to hang out with! And this will probably be one of my laid back conventions where I don't have to run back and forth working on stuff like a crazy person.

Sac-Anime is where I first started cosplaying. I went to the very first Sac-Anime which happened to be my very first convention.
Fanime 09 this year was my first convention that WASN'T Sac-Anime lol.

I'll be going as Aisaka Taiga from Toradora! and Akiyama Mio from K-ON!

Awesome! Is there anyone willing to room up? I have 1 other person going, and if we get a single, it says we can get max 4 people in the room. So we can take 2 other people. But of course, we're ALWAYS open to hang out whenever. I'm going to be bringing my Xbox 360 Elite and Halo, Street Fighter 4, and DBZ Burst Limit. Plus I'm going to be holding a few "Mini-Marathons," one of which will be a Dragonball Z Abridged "Mini-thon." I will also be showing some of my choice AMVs, some of which were entered and some that were shown at FanimeCon. So...if you guys wanna hook up at Sac-Anime, PM me with contact info so I can tell ya which hotel room is ours when we get it. L8ers!

Can someone tell me a little about this con?  I heard it was very small.  I saw on a flyer they have artist alleys but I see no info about it on their website.

as far as Cons go, this one is pretty tiny.

average age : minonrs [ lots of teeny boopers under the age of 20 ]

main reason of Con - mostly hanging out and wandering aimlessly imo.

guests: nothing to write home about and no major draws because the dealers and AA rooms are pretty negligible...

for the most part, its something to do if you have nothing else better to do that weekend and feel like driving up to Sac.

in other words, unless you have the right group of friends then its prolly not worth it.

oh and seriously wear a bullet proof vest.

some of our rovers were literally shot at last year [or was it the year before?] and we've decided not to touch that Con with a 100 mile pole. :P

You make it sound so dramatic Jerry, lol. From what I heard the hotel they were staying at was shot at. Not the individuals in particular. Although, still just as scary, lol.

Post by: Stormfalcon on June 16, 2009, 09:09:37 PM
Hrm...I keep going back-and-forth on whether to go or not.  On one hand, it's not so far out that I wouldn't know anyone if I went.  On the other hand, I hear some discouraging things about it from friends, though not quite as dramatic as Jerry put it there.  :o

Still trying to decide, to be honest.

I'm going to be there, at least for one day. Wouldn't mind staying at the hotel for the weekend, but I dunno..one day roadtrip sounds right about now.

Well, I have 2, possibly 3 other friends going. Well, technically one of them isn't a friend, he's a friend of one of the friends going. We're coming up on the 28, driving, seeing as Amtrak is MUCH more expensive...and takes much longer oddly enough. So we're coming a day early.

...And this is why it will never be hosted at the Red Lion hotel ever again.

This is my 3rd year going to Sac Anime, and I love it. I would love to meet new people to hang out with, all my other friends usually do other things leaving my going to the panels and wondering around all by myself  :'( Whoever wants to hangout let me know, I can't wait.

I'm going to be Ryomou from Ikki Tousen and Neku from TWEWY.

It's going to be at the Radisson hotel off of Highway 160 and Leisure Lane...beautiful hotel with a lot of open space for events and photo shoots.
You know me, I gotta support my hometown con. I'll be booking my room soon.

I checked out Radisson hotel.  It is beautiful and plus I can see costco from there (although it looks like u have to go around to get there).  I'm definately looking forward to this event!
Title: Re: Sac-Anime?

I wouldn't recommend going to Sac Anime. Here is some good examples why:

1: Majority of the attendees are under 18.
2: Dealer's Room known for bootlegs.
3: Attendees are known to crap up the convention and trash the facilities.
4: The convention itself is a facade, not at all a  "by fans for fans" organization.

The only reason I can see anybody want to go is the people watching. But other than that I wouldn't pay to attend. I guess you would have to be *really really really* bored and a masochist to go. JMO

Title: Re: Sac-Anime?

This isn't really a big con.
I actually don't go for dealers room 80% of the time.

For the August con it's only TWO days instead of the usual three.
The con IS flooded with minors (like me*cough*) >_>; but oddly the only people I hang out with are people that ARE NOT minors. o_O

But,
I'm DEFINITELY going as;
- Akiyama Mio - K-ON! [100% done] [Sun]
- Aisaka Taiga - Toradora! [ costume still being made] [Sat]
- Ume - Air Gear [Sun]
- Yuki Nagato - Haruhi [Wig needed >.<;] [Sat (masq. hopefully)]

I won't add on any more cosplays =___=;

I've been going to Sacanime since 05. It's my home convention  ;D

But ja it is a pretty small con compared to Fanime but that's why I love it. I know alot of the cosplayers so when you get a well sized group it's always fun to hang out at. They play alot of games there which passes the time by and last years dance/ rave was pretty descent.

It is true that it is Sacramento, and the Red lion incident did happen but it moved to a better location.

There are alot of minor's but they behave pretty well. They just have fun there.

If you guys do go then we should definitely meet up!

There was a shooting at the hotel because of a party there. Had nothing to do with the con besides
it being in the same hotel.

The decision on not to have the next few Sac Anime at a hotel was because the owner lost a lot of
money and felt "safe" to stay at the Scottish Rite until recently.

What AX cosplay policy?  The only policies that I know were in the booklet; something that the lower-staff, security, and some volunteers either misinterpreted or completely ignored just to piss of a couple of cosplayers still following the rules and guidelines.

Anyways, see ya at SacAnime.

I thought the con this year was okay. The place where it was held was beautiful to say the least. Loved walking around it on Saturday night :D but the con also had it's problems. But all Con's do. Still it was fun!

Oooh, I've been living in the Sac area for about 3 years now but never had the chance to commit to going to SacAnime-- due to being busy and no real friends going either.

You all seem to make an argument to just check it out. I might go since the price is pretty cheap and if I get my cosplay done on time, then that'd be cool. If you are driving by car and Sacramento's hotels are full/too pricey, I recommend booking a hotel in West Sacramento or even in Woodland, Davis, Winters, or Dixon. Most places are no more 1/2 hr away from Sacramento. It is a drive but like I said, if Sac hotels are booked/too pricey, consider alternatives. Or else befriend a local there and stay at their apartment/dorm/house. Haha.

I agree with everyone that there are a lot of teens there and it is small, but it was still fun espcially since I had never been to any kind of anime con before. I loved all of the cosplayers and I can't wait to see them again this summer! It was a fun first experience, but from what everyone keeps telling me it is nothing compared to fanime!

Yay I'm excited! I get to go to Sakura Con, Fanime and then Sac Anime!!! :D

Been attending Sac-Anime since day 1. My first con- opened up an entire new world right in front of me- was also right around the time I barely started getting into the otaku realm.

Sac-Anime isn't as terrible as some people make it sound- and I know a TON of people were not happy about Summer2009, but they've made some HUGE improvements since then. SA is moving forward each year, and has recovered quite well from 2 major past mistakes. The con tends to be growing, and most attendees are really happy with their weekend experience. To be honest with you, there's a crapload of potential in SA, and I'd expect Fanime to have a decent rival over the next decade.

I'd recommend anyone within a few hours to come.
My Ratings and Review:

Attendance: roughly 2-4k
Length: 3 Days
Vendor's Room and AA: 8/10
Staff: 8/10
Events: 6/10
Guests: 5/10
Swap Meet: 5/10
Rave/Dance: 9/10

Another plus- SacAnime is one of the only cons to showcase Itasha cars! :)

Sac anime isn't bad if your a teen and like clausterphobic situations and getting stuck in the hallway ;_;

just imagine a high school during passing period with 5x as many people ><
that alone made me decide no more, but hey to people who actually still attend HS it probally dosen't bother them as much as me, heck it bothered me even when I was still in HS

so yeah
there are some people who do awesome cosplays and the masquerade is pretty good ^^

Fanime was my first con so maybe that's why sac-anime has no value to me >>

but some of the dealers are pretty awesome like Lolita Kisama and there were some cool artists in the artists alley, but the hallway with lots of shoving and squeezing is not where I would ever want to try to sell my art, it'd prolly get knocked down broken or something

um they have the same panels every year... and the same guests... nobody that cool either all american voice actors mostly
quite a few of the bands were good though I don't believe any of them were ever in any asian country as a band, so yeah basically locals

lots of groups of friends hang out as there isn't always something interesting to do, basically just go with your friends and ignore the annoying crowds and you'll have a great time :)

and you should go to check it out at least once if it's close, and pre-register it's cheaper that way :)
basically it's worth going to once or twice

I personally am probally not going back until they have a bigger venue where people don't feel clausterphobic and get stuck between people in the hallways

I'm glad you guys can enjoy it though ^^ have fun next sac-anime too!!
