Hi,

Just so you guys know, my friend and I will be selling a lot of Magic: the Gathering cards this year at the Fanime Swap Meet. Additionally, we will be buying cards as well :) If you are looking to sell, don't hesitate to bring cards and let us take a look!

Details:
Our Swap Meet booth will be 'decorated' in Magic-related playmats and the like.
We will be at Fanime for both days of the Swap Meet (Thursday and Friday)
We will also be around Tabletop gaming to do trades and play some Magic
We take cash as well as Magic cards for payment, per our buylist prices (our buylist will be finalized soon).
Additionally, if I receive it by Wednesday afternoon, I will be able to take credit card payments courtesy of the Square iPhone/iPad App. No guarantees though -- it is already Tuesday and it still has not arrived.

We will have binders of singles, bargain boxes of cheap cards (4 for $1 foils, 2 for $1 cards, 1 for $1 cards) as well as a lot of fifty-card lots of cards strictly from Zendikar, Worldwake, and the new set Rise of the Eldrazi.

Please bring your Magic cards -- trade binders, old collections. We would love to take a look at what you have to offer and perhaps purchase or trade cards.

If you have any requests, don't hesitate to ask in this thread and I will see what I can find :) I can't guarantee anything but I will definitely try!

Momir Basic - THE Casual Magic: the Gathering Format
An Introduction

Hi guys. If you play Magic: the Gathering Online (MTGO, "MODO") you exactly know what Momir Basic is.

For everyone else, let me introduce you to the most fun casual Magic format there is. In fact, it doesn't even cost much to get into!

What is Momir Basic?
Momir Basic is a Vanguard format on Magic Online. What this means is that you and your opponent both use the "Momir Vig, Simic Visionary" Vanguard Avatar. A Vanguard Avatar on Magic Online gives you special rules for your game, and players can play with different avatars as they wish. Momir Basic just happens to be a very popular format where both players play with the same Momir Vig avatar plus a deck of nothing but sixty basic lands.

You start the game at 24 life (up from 20) and 7 cards in hand. The Momir Vig avatar gives you an ability you can play once per turn:

"{X}, Discard a card: Put a token into play as a copy of a random creature card with converted mana cost X. Play this ability only any time you could play a sorcery and only once each turn."

What this means is that you can pay X (any amount of mana you want) plus discard a card to have the game randomly select a creature card for you and you get to play it. You can do this once per turn, and only whenever you could play a Sorcery (which means only during your turn for the most part).

The standard rules of the game still apply, only in Momir Basic you're going to just be playing lands and using Momir Vig's ability to create creatures for you. The creatures you get are totally random, which means you could get something as great as Platinum Angel when you pay  7 for X or you could end up unlucky and get Phage the Untouchable (which means you automatically lose the game because of her ability when she comes into play).

Why is Momir Basic fun?
Easy: Because it only requires one thing to play on Magic Online, which is the Momir Vig avatar. At launch the avatar cost roughly seven dollars to purchase. These days, I think the total is about $20+ to play Momir Basic though I haven't actually checked myself.

If you have a Momir Vig avatar on Magic Online and sixty basic lands, you can play Momir Basic! It's that easy to pick up and go.

So why am I telling you this?
Because I'm making a physical version of Momir Basic. It was inspired by this post, though my version will look a bit different.

Here's an image of how my one-drops look like at the moment:

Essentially, everything is still the same from the online variant. Instead of having the game randomize a creature by throwing darts or something, we do it like this: You pay X, roll two six-sided die (one numbered, one with pips) and consult the guide for what creature you put into play. This gives a total of thirty-six possible creatures per converted mana cost. I've been tweaking the entire set over the last two months to make sure that the game isn't too broken or too boring, throwing in random whacky creatures along with powerful and weak ones as well. There will be blank laminated cards and a sharpie to write down your current creature which can be wiped off.

Even if you don't play Magic: the Gathering, all you need to play Momir Basic is just the playset I'm creating and you're all good to go! It's totally accessible to all players from all card games. I'll be demo-ing the product at Tabletop Gaming and also at the Swap Meet.

I'm almost done designing the entire thing, I just need to find a good place to print it out and everything. Once it's done, I'll see how many copies I can make (I'm laminating all the pages and such) and will bring a few extra ones to Fanime to sell/trade off at the Swap Meet. If you are interested in one, please PM me to reserve a copy. I do not currently have a price set for these, but it will definitely at least cover the cost of materials (paper, ink, laminating, binders, dice, marker, etc.). You're also welcome to trade Magic: the Gathering cards towards these.

Again, please PM me if you want to acquire a set of these. If I'm able to produce a good amount of them, I'll be bringing no more than perhaps ten of them unless I know for sure that a lot more people want some :)

Thanks for looking!

UPDATED! Magic: the Gathering buylist

Prices are via cash & PayPal. I can meet up at the following locations:

Anywhere in San Leandro/Fremont/Union City/Newark
Games of Berkeley/Eudemonia in Berkeley, Fridays only
SuperStars (aka BigFireball) in San Jose, Saturdays only

To sell, email me at enjoyyouronionrings AT gmail DOT com (no spam, please!) or PM me on the forums. Minimum $20 sale, this way it'll be worth our time when it comes to getting to the meeting spot. I don't want to waste your time by just buying $3-5 worth of cards if your time is valuable :]

I buy Magic: the Gathering cards with an emphasis on Standard-legal and Extended-legal cards. I can take Standard cards in bulk as well, but outside of Standard I have a pretty specific buylist.

I am in the process of re-organizing my spoils from Grand Prix - Los Angeles and will have them up on eBay soon. My username on eBay is enjoyyouronionrings

Prices are for Near-Mint to Mint condition cards. Although not listed, I will consider played conditions such as Excellent and Very Good at a lower price as well. If you are unsure, feel free to email me scans of cards you would like to sell and I can give you a quoted price.

I also buy foreign cards! The only non-English languages I currently accept are French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian. Yes, I buy foreign basic land but only very specific ones.

Also accepting: BULK (unlisted) Foils @ 0.10, BULK creature tokens @ 0.10, FOIL Basic Land @ 0.05, and FOREIGN Basic Land @ 10 for 0.01

These are ten movies which I saw this year that I feel that everyone should have seen. Note that I haven't seen a number of movies that I planned to. Most notable movies that I have not seen yet are: American Teen, Changeling, Che, Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Doubt, Gran Torino, Rachel Getting Married, The Reader, Revolutionary Road, Secret Life of Bees, Synecdoche New York and Vicky Cristina Barcelona. If I had seen those movies, they may have affected this list in one way or another but I didn't so this is what we're at.

Also. Tell you what. If I see any of those above mentioned movies and I want to bump a slot or two from my list for them, I'll do so and let you know.

But, what I want from you guys is simple: Write a top ten movies list of your own and justify it. Also, feel free to openly disagree with my choices (and give me good reasons why!). I'm open to a healthy debate.

Explanations below may possibly spoil bits and pieces of each movie, and may probably tell you more than you want to known. Hence, they're hidden behind spoiler tags. You have been warned.

10. Be Kind Rewind (Directed by Michel Gondry. Stars Jack Black, Mos Def, and Danny Glover)

3. The Dark Knight (Directed by Christopher Nolan. Stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman)

1. The Wrestler (Directed by Darren Aronofsky. Stars Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood)

That's all for my movies list. Maybe I'll write one for something else as well, but I hope you've enjoyed it.

Dealers Room / Magic Cards!
September 04, 2008, 04:26:11 PM
So this year at the swap meet I was able to sell off quite a bit of Magic cards for some good money (at least in my perspective). I was the Asian guy with the three (or was it four?) binders of Magic cards selling rares off at roughly one dollar a piece upwards of $20+ for chase rares. I hope to do it again next year, and would like some input:

What kinds of cards do you guys look for? That is: Do you guys want recent sets? Older sets?

Do you guys mostly look for fun multiplayer cards or tournament-caliber singles?

Price range: How high is too high?

Any other improvements? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance. See you guys next year.

EDIT
Got it!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Logic_Bomb

/EDIT

Hey guys. I've been wanting to find a copy/play this game for a while now (I used to goto my next door neighbors to play this every once in a while about ten years ago). Straight to the facts:

-Super Famicom title (I doubt it was released in English)
-A top-down shooter
-I guess you could call it sci-fi, the character models weren't childish or anything (more on the "serious" side I guess)
-One of the weapons was some sort of gun or laser beam that would basically ricochet off walls (I think it was called the "Z laser" or something for that matter).
-I THINK you went inside a pod or capsule in order to save/heal.

Any help? Much appreciated =]

Gaming / elder dragon highlander format mtg games
March 31, 2007, 02:17:22 AM
Hey, who's interested in getting some big EDH games going on during Fanime?

If you're not familiar with the format, read it up here =]
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/daily/cm64

There are a few revised rules that my group plays by:

-Starting total life is 200 divided by the number of players OR 40 if 200/players is less than 40

-The 21 damage rule is changed to Combat Damage (therefore the only banned General is Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary)

-Each time your General gets RFG'ed, it costs 2 more to play

-Generals cost at least 6 to play (for example if your General's converted mana cost is WUB, you have to pay 3WUB)

Gaming / DS Tourneys?
November 08, 2006, 02:24:32 AM
I've got a few ideas for DS tournaments:

-Mario Kart DS
-Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (If it's out by then)
-Ouendan/EBA
-Metroid Prime: Hunters

Any other titles you guys are interested in having a tournament with?

Of course, it's B.Y.O.DS and game =P

Dealers Room / What are YOU going to buy in 2007?
November 08, 2006, 02:11:43 AM
In 2005, I spent about $100. In 2006, I spent about $250 (not including hotel costs).

This year, I'm limiting myself to $100 at the Dealer's Room. Maybe even less.

What about you guys?

This is my current "must buy" list:

I want the ANBU Kakashi and Itachi plushies.

I want the time-jump Gaara and Naruto plushies

I'll also be on the lookout for any Death Note movie DVDs (region free, unless I find a region-free player for my Macbook), the "pissed off Pikachu" plushie, a wooden sheathed katana, and an airsoft gun.

NOTHING ELSE, though, or I'll kill my wallet -.-

Unless, of course, something ELSE cool comes up.

Oh and I'm allocating $50 to DDR, Guitar Freaks, Magic: the Gathering drafts/tournaments/packs, among other things.
#11
Currently we have a group of five people that get together and do a booster draft every week (Rav-Guild-Dis). The tournament prizes are the rares (Rochester rare draft), and we're planning on getting more people involved and a set location. Currently we're holding it at a friend's house and are planning on buying booster boxes rather than buying the cards from the local shop which is about two blocks away for $10.50/3 packs. If we get boxes, we'll just start charging entry fees ($9/3 packs or something like that) to play and stuff. Depending on whether or not the owner of the house is cool with random people stopping by, we may move it to the park which is like two feet away from the guy's house.

Anyone interested? It's in the San Leandro/Hayward area.

In our last two drafts, we had a number of good rares:

First draft's notable rares
-Steam Vents (Izzet shockland)
-Breeding Pool (Simic shockland)
-Rakdos Pit Dragon
-Dovescape
-Loxodon Heirarch

Second draft's notable rares
-Loxodon Gatekeeper (2 of them! One foil)
-Godless Shrine (Orzhov shockland)
-Rakdos Augermage
-Blazing Archon

Anyone up for a Hunter x Hunter gathering in 2007? Possibly an entire Ryodan =D I want to do Kuroro's hair down/in tux version.
#13
Oh my god. That was an AWESOME performance by all of you! I loved every minute of it =D

My favorite skits were the Final Fantasy Idol and Gloomy's Clues one.

What about the rest of you?

http://www.konami.com/gs/newsarticle.php?id=835

Enough said.

If you're too lazy to click on that, here's the brief summary:

Konami has signed a deal with CBS and DIC for CBS' Saturday Mornign cartoons. The show will be called "Dance Revolution" and features "tweens and teens" playing DDR against each other, most likely in a "freestyle" competition.

Also, the show will "Show you the moves" each week as they break a move down step by step.

This means:

1. More and more newbies at DDR
2. Freestyling will need to get even more(?) innovative
3. They went in with this plan like five years too late =/

Dealers Room / manga?
May 13, 2006, 06:49:17 PM
I forgot how much manga cost at the con, was it like 10% off retail? Because I'm debating between buying 1-9 of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and 1-13 of Bleach now or at-con. I can get Tsubasa for about $8/volume and Bleach for about $5.50/volume brand new right now, or is it cheaper at-con if I buy in bulk? =P

Dealers Room / Question about hand-made plushies
April 24, 2006, 04:14:43 PM
My friend and I are making Organization XIII plushies (see my thread in the Things in the Universe board) and planning on selling them at the Swap Meet. Would that be okay, since there's this licensing factor and all.

*Organization XIII = KingdomHearts II

Hey, my friend and I have an idea to start wireless multiplayer games using the PSP or Nintendo DS during Fanime, probably during nighttime for all you congoers who can't get into Hentai nights ;D (like me, because I'll be like 3 months short of my legal age ><). Right now the plan is for these games:

List of suggested games [As of January 10th, 2006]

PSP-
Grand Theft Auto - Liberty City Stories
SOCOM Fire Team Bravo
Lumines
Field Commander
Monster Hunter Freedom [Not yet released]
Bleach: Heat the Soul 2
Me and My Katamari
Infected
Virtua Tennis World Tour
WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006
Ultimate Block Party
Armored Core Formula Front
Naruto: Narutimetto Portable – Mugenjou no maki
Tekken: Dark Resurrection

Nintendo DS-
Mario Kart DS
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Jump Superstars DS
Metroid Prime: Hunters [Not yet released]
Sonic Rush
Guilty Gear DS [Not yet released]
Meteos
Mr Driller Drill Spirits
Polarium
Puyo Pop
Advance Wars DS
Mega Man Battle Network 5 Double Team
Bleach [Not yet released]

Suggestions? Feedback? Don't hesitate to reply =)

Right now, we do not have any set location on where this will take place at during Fanime nights. Anyone within wireless range can just join in if they are at another part of the con.

EDIT as of 01/10/2006

There's a good chance this might be an E-Gaming event =D I'm crossing my fingers.
