Hotel and Facilities / Your Hotel Stay 2009
« on: May 25, 2009, 09:20:43 PM »
Once again, the traditional--was your hotel stay awesome or what?

I stayed this year at The Fairmont Hotel, and let me tell you that the place was AWESOME! Our room was spacious, surrounded by food, placed within a nice short walk to the hotel, and it wasn't as insane or noisy as the other convention hotels. Checking out was also a nice smooth process. Only gripe I have is the parking.. Stupid $26 parking.

Panels and Workshops / Re: More Panels? When/How?
« on: March 30, 2009, 04:44:36 PM »
Hi there!

I think that there should be some late night panels, mainly because there are so many people who are still roaming around the con even in the later hours of the night. Also, you can do some more mature panels after hours as well. (with proper ID of course) If not, you could do earlier in the morning, as long as the panelist is okay with that.

Of course a fourth room of panels would be mega awesome. But save that for next year if anything. Or if you can rearrange some peeps, you could get a smaller conference room as well. There are a lot of smaller conference rooms in the Marriot as well.

Dude, did ANYONE stay at the Crowne Plaza?

Anywayz, our stay was good overall! And for the price I paid, it was totally worth it! (Sixth floor, could see my car from the parking lot)

Pros:
1) Not being attached to the convention = A little bit quieter overall. And there was less elevator issues too, except the center one kept breaking, so I most of the weekend, we were all kinda afraid that we would get stuck, so we had to depend on the other two.

2) Although they didn't have any free Wi-Fi at the hotel, they had computers with free internet and printing access, so that was really cool. (They did have wi-fi but it was 10 bucks, so why pay that when the convention's was free and within seriously awesome walking distance?)

3) Rooms were seriously clean, and the staff was very nice and understanding. We kept the "Do Not Disturb" sign on a lot, to keep them from finding out we had six peeps in one room. And when I had to go down for an additional blanket, the staff was all more than welcome to help out!

Cons:
1) No mircowaves to be found ANYWHERE! Although, I was bold enough to ask the staff of the resturant downstairs and they microwaved some food for me. Good note for those who wish to eat something besides ramen, BYOM (Bring Your Own Microwave!)

2) Parking == Effing super expensive! 18 bucks a night, and that was the convention discount rate! Man, I don't know about that.

3) Too close to the airplane sounds for me!

4) Because we were across the street, we had to cross the crazy homeless people who were sleeping on the sidewalks and stuff. So take a lantern or light or walk in lots of groups if you go there!

5) They kinda had free coffee, but it was gone around 10am, so it kinda sucked.

6) Walls kinda are seriously too thin. I think our roomates next door were "doing it" a lot because I heard a lot of headboard movements. Also the pipes super sucked too. But I think that comes with being smack dab in the middle from the top floors to the bottom.

Hidden Anime Masterpiece

there are many anime that is not popular like naruto or Bleach, but a great series that all people should watch!
get suggestions and show like a part of 1st episode of some series, and state the story line?

I donno, jus an idea

Indie anime, perhaps? The best stuff NOT to come out of the major studios? ...'course, we then have to define "major studios," but I don't foresee that being too difficult.

*pokes both quoters to our panel list* We intend also to do indie anime series as well!  But it's kinda funny, anime is mostly a "indie" style. Since anime is totally a niche market. However, I see your point, that it should be series from well known anime companies.

....noooononono. Not my point at all. My point is that there should be a panel showcasing anime not produced by well-known anime companies. Indie anime. Niche market or not, you still have major players like KyoAni, Gainax, Studio DEEN and the like hogging the majority of the viewing public's attention, with independent artists or firms falling to the wayside more often than not.

There are, however, some glorious exceptions to this rule. Makoto Shinkai's "Voices of a Distant Star" comes to mind almost immediately- the entire thing was created on his Macintosh computer!

*nods and takes a note for panel*

Dude, I LOVE MAKOTO SHINKAI! I have everything that he has done so far! Those for sure are on our list. WE also have some unkown Hayao Miyaski, as well as some current stuff like Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika, Grave of Fireflies, and other old school hits.

~PADDLES WEREN'T ALLOWED AT THE CON. Now I know this is a weapons policy issue. But it wasn't anywhere in the Weapon's Policy. I think that Fanime for the future should consider either being more detailed about what is not and what is allowed, or just ban weapons altogether. Yes it would suck, but if it meant that Fanime would have one less thing to have to lose their permits over, then we can forgive them for it.

THese weren't banned because they're "weapons".

They were banned, when I went to get my paddles Peace Bonded, the dude who was doing it told me that it was not allowed at all. And he was a douchebag about it as well.

Better Yaoi.. I mean the stuff they had was good.. But if you ever attended Yaoi-Con, you can see it there. So maybe some newer hotter Yaoi would be nice?

Okay.. Here's my list..

Pros:
~ Artist Alley--I wish they wouldn't have sold out so early, I would have loved to have sold there. That's okay though.. NEXT YEAR!! On the merchandise side though, very wide variety, so that was awesome. I think that the AA this year was actually somewhat better than Dealers Room..

~The Panel Lineup--Great!! Although the scheduling of some kinda sucked. Kinda can't help it when you have a convention this kind of size. So I forgive you Fanime.

~FREE WI-FI!!! OMG, that single handedly made this convention the BEST CON EVER!! I've been to tons of conventions with no internet access and my hotel didn't have free Wi-Fi, so the fact that you guys had it was AWESOME!!

~The Anime Rooms: Another OMG.. There was so much to see, and I didn't even get to see it all! Oh, and yay to the Yaoi and Hentai rooms. Although, I wish there was some Yaoi on Friday night so I wouldn't have spent all of Saturday Night/Early Sunday Morning watching.

~Stage Zero: Loads of fun. Even in the middle of the night when all they did was play AMV's. Totally rocked.

~Oh, and even though the peeps that worked there didn't like this, the 24 hours Starbucks.. Awesome. I felt truly like I had stepped into otaku paradise..

The "Meh" Section

~Dealers Tables: Some cool stuff. But nothing worth seriously emptying my wallet over.

~Gaming Room: There was alot of cool stuff, but I would have seriously loved to have had some Magic The Gathering lessons. I really want to learn how to play that game. But no one has taught me yet. So that would have been a bigger plus for 2009.

~Swap Meet: Nothing super awesome. Although, I regret not buying that Kyo Kara Maoh poster..

Cons:

~Um yeah, those lines for the dance wasn't hot. As well as the An Cafe concert being on top of the B&W Ball, and my panel too.. Eh.. I still forgive you Fanime

General Convention Discussion / Re: Lost Something at FanimeCon?
« on: May 29, 2008, 10:43:17 PM »
I emailed the email above for this, but I have yet to recieve info, so I decided to add this here.

I wanted to report a lost Laptop AC Adapter for a Compaq Presario Notebook, the last time I saw it was after my panel on Sunday night and when I got home, I could not find it anywhere. I called the hotel I was staying and they had nothing of that sort missing. Super big reward to anyone who finds it. It's all black and has two separate chords where they separate. I am thinking that the last place I had, is in the Artist Alley. But after that, it was the last place I remember having it..

Again, super big reward for anyone who finds it..

Thanks!

Nabechu: Crowne Plaza does have in and out.

Also, everyone check with your hotels, many hotels have half-off prices for Fanime visitors. If you booked through Fanime, you will get whatever discount they are talking about. I called the Crowne Plaza, and they said that it's half off for those who booked through the Fanime website. (I'm the driver, my friends booked however.)

56
HAHAHAHAHA some "actual" death notes???? XD

Clarification: not ACTUAL Death Notes, the prop notebooks.

Although I do not know when my panel will be going down, I am proud to open this thread. I want to know what you my fellow Death Note fans would like to talk about at the Panel! The description will be on the website, but here is the basic panel description:

"The human whose name is written in this note shall die" That's how the entire series of Death Note began it's overtaking of the entire anime and manga world. This panel is for those who wish to know not only what is the big deal about this series, but also why it is changing the way people think about what is right and what is wrong in the real world. Come and share your thoughts and opinions about your favorite characters, themes and moments to remember from this series that has changed the anime and manga world. WARNING: This panel will include MAJOR SPOILERS AND ADULT THEMES, PARENTAL DISCRETION IS ADVISED!

Although we are going to have a whole bunch of stuff to talk about already, but if there is anything that you may want to discuss please leave a note below and let me know, who knows? It might make it into the final panel discussion.

:D OMG! All three of my panels have been approved! OMG, OMG, OMG! *fangirl squeal*

*deep breaths* Okay, calm down...

Quick question though, I already am registered to attend Fanime, but have not paid yet, (College student. you probably know what that's like) should I still pay for my membership? And if so, would I be remibursed after the convention?
