My GF and I might be interested in meeting new people to hang with this year. Our friends bailed out on us with, apparently, more important things to do.

thank you! you are right, i might be pretty busy to eat. I should probably not bring too much food then!

I don't mean to imply you shouldn't eat or bring a lot of food.

In the part of being too busy to worry about eating, I meant to say that with the con going on, you'd probably wouldn't care too much about what it is you eat so long as it feeds you and keeps you going -- that way you don't have to stress about what specific foods to bring. Also you could snack throughout the entire day on small things instead of worrying about large expensive meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

If you do that, you could carry with you items such as nuts, chips, things that wont melt or crumble easily but can also fill you up. I went through an entire fanime once off peanuts and Powerade. I was so caught up in the con that by the time it ended, I realized I hadn't eaten a single meal.

Just to add, and more of an inside joke, there is a Taqeuria down the street from the convention center next to the Jack in the Box, their tacos fit quite well in pockets and are good even cold. Every so often I would forget there were taco's in my pocket, I would pull one out and eat it. Friends kept asking where the heck I was getting all this food from. It lasted an entire day. Tacos rock.

I find that I don't eat as much during Fanime as I would normally eat at home, I tend to come back from Fanime 5 pounds lighter (there were times costumes I made to tightly fit my body would have to be adjusted for the weight loss during the con). Normally I would eat at local places such as the Taqueria by that Jack in the Box or hit up a McD's dollar menu item or two, just one meal there holds me for an entire day.

If I were to take food with me, I would probably load up on those Cup Noodles, Power Bars, Powerade and a few guilty sweet things to keep me occupied. I find that Cup Noodles work well with the hot water from water coolers, no microwave required. With Chef Boyardee foods, I like to eat it cold out of the can, such as Ravioli and Beefaroni.

It's entirely possible that you'll be too occupied with the con to really worry about food.

Edit: If you're going to have access to a fridge, those Lunchables Turkey/Ham, etc, would be pretty good too.

It just happens to be closest to me. I've been to others, and all of them are very much the same, though Fanime has more faces I recognize over time.

Oh that's weird.... I thought we looked over the FAQ for those mistakes. Hmm.

Well in any case, since we integrated this type of registration, LAST YEAR we allowed members to pick up their pre-reg and early-reg badges on Thursday. We don't do at-con registration on Thursday.

Unless we have changed the way things are this year, it should still be the same.

Thanks. I would have weeped if I had to stand in line on Friday.

REGISTRATION IS THE BEST DEPARTMENT WHOO :D

Earlier this year, I registered a couple of pre-reg badges. In the faq it says I can pick them up Thursday, and of course has to be me since I am the group leader.

However the FAQ doesn't cover this.

I just added another badge to the group today, however it says the new badge is early-registration, and the faq says early-reg is picked up on Friday not Thursday. If I went on Thursday for the pre-reg badges, will they also give the early-reg badge with this pick-up? Or do I need to stand in the Line of the Infinite on Friday as well? It would make no sense to have to do that twice, and if I decided to pick up the pre-reg badges Friday, would pretty much not make them worth the concept of pre-reg.

So what happens here? Thanks!

It's true that hotel parking are usually full, but they do reserve for the guests though. The sign may say full, but if you are their guest, then there will be parking. That's what happened with me with the Hilton. They had full parking and I was their guest so they told me to park in the valet part until there's free space and I won't get charged. If you asked, they will help you.

Lucky you. I was also a Hilton guest and was told to try again later. Didn't matter if I was a guest or not.

^ Last year I started with the cosplay creation in January, learning how-to and building Claymore armor, and finished it on the morning of the second day of the con. I also built 2 steampunk costumes just 24-hours before Fanime started as well, at the same time. Most stressful time ever.
< First Fanime was exciting for me, I think most will diggit. Just a bit of warning if at an attached hotel, watch out for the Party elevators in the Marriott.
> This is going to be my I've been attending FanimeCon since the beginningth time.

After reserving my rooms as soon as the page became available, I noticed the Hilton and Marriott disappeared rather quickly. I barely made my reservations. Seems every year they go faster.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Quick Hotel Question!

Ouch:

QuoteHOTEL DEPOSIT POLICY: Please note that at check-in, your hotel will require full payment of your room and tax for all nights plus an additional deposit of up to $100.00 per room/per night. You may provide this with cash, a credit card, or a debit card (debit card not recommended).

Now it's going to be a $400 deposit for me.

For the actual room's cost itself, you'll be charged after you checkout (using card). This does not include the deposit however, and it's likely you'll pay that upfront before you check in (for me it was $150 upfront cost @ Hilton). Last year there was a statement about possibly being charged for the room deposit before the convention begins, but that hasn't happened to me.

I always make people pay asap well before Fanime even begins. I do this because there is always that last minute "I don't have much money, can I pay you back when I get paid?" excuse and then you're out of that money for Fanime -- and of course the risk of not getting paid at all.

I believe every hotel does this and the price varies from hotel to hotel.

Hotel security deposits are a way for the hotel to ensure that they have money for any damages that are caused to the hotel room. Unless there are damages to the room, you will receive a 100% refund. As far as I know, there have been any amount of holds to members that haven't damaged their rooms.

It is recommended that a credit card is used for the hold as it wouldn't stop usage of that card, while a debit card would prevent you from using those funds (this also differs from bank to bank).

[Edit: We are also planning to list the amount of the deposits on our hotel website when it launches.]

2 years ago when Marriott started doing this, they wouldn't allow the use of Credit Cards for the deposit. They wanted cash or debit card. I had to use my debit card with them.

Really? I never had a problem with that, and I've always used my credit card with them -- nor heard of any problems from other friends who stayed there. Weird.

I haven't been back to the Marriott since, so I cannot speak for them now (if anything changed). But I do know they would not accept a credit card, stating it needed to be cash or debit. This year, I had calculated an extra $150 into my Convention budget so when it gets taken out of my debit card, it doesn't ruin my food and useless but awesome convention trinket purchases. This year I stayed at the Hilton and I used my debit card, so I wasn't quoted policy about what I needed to use for a deposit this year, they just said it would be taken out.

It also took 3 days to get the money back.

You... are amazing ;w; <3
They look like real metal <333

Thanks. :)

I worked pretty hard in trying to find the right balance between making it very light, yet making it look metallic, and giving it the look of weight. I think what helped making it look a lot more metallic was avoiding making it perfectly smooth, when I did that the first time, it looked too artificial, so I purposefully dented it a bit and made the surfaces a bit unbalanced. The results were the chrome paint being able to better capture light and shadow as texture making it look metal.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Which hotel to pick???

I prefer Hilton for being there at the convention center but mostly because the Elevator situation seems to be better than Marriott's.

Comfort wise, overall I liked Crowne Plaza the best, especially for parking. Hilton has very limited parking and Marriott only does Valet parking. Crowne has, so far, given me in-out privileges even without charging for parking.

I have Twitter and FB text my phone whenever Fanime updates. Got a room the moment it was put online last year.

I do recall a notice was put out on when the page would be opened for hotel registration several hours before it was available. Though I thought it was weird that they used FB to tell people it'll be posted on Twitter, which is the only reason why I have a Twitter account.

The entire thing, including the sword is made out of styrene (1/16th inch thickness, except Pauldrons made out of thicker 1/8th inch thickness sheets). The sword DOES use PVC pipes and couplers to hold together. I had Tap Plastics cut two 70 inch by 5 inch strips of styrene for me, I then cut the edges into a sword shape. I put them against a coffee table and pushed in a crease to give it that blade look. Glued it all together and I had a basic Claymore sword. Making the guard was the hard part, so I had to go cheap since I ran out of time.

Thanks for the reply I appreciate it. I'm quite excited about other things I can make now that I know how to make it. :)
