Hotel and Facilities / Re: 2017 Roommate Thread
May 21, 2017, 07:56:34 PM
Some of my roommates had to drop last minute, so I'd love to take in three people still looking for a room!

Here's the details:

- My room is at the Marriott, so it's connected to the convention center! Super convenient!

- One bed spot and two floor spaces available. If you have a floor spot, you are welcome to bring a sleeping bag, air mattress, and/or floor pad to make yourself comfy! I have the room Thursday night through Sunday night (check out on Monday). The room cost is $110 total per person. I can take either cash, Paypal, or credit card (via Square reader). If you can pay before the con through Paypal, that would be awesome/helpful, but otherwise payment on Thursday is fine. There will be six people in the room total including these three spaces.

- No gender preference, as long as you're friendly and respectful it's all good! This is not a party room--no smoking, drugs, bringing in random people, being really loud late at night, being super messy, etc. My friends and I tend to do late night con things so we might not be back until fairly late, but we'll do our best to be quiet when we come back into the room.

- My friends and I are long-time convention attendees in our late 20s/early 30s. We're reliable, easy to get along with, and very familiar with how cons work and how to make sure it's an easy and fun experience for everyone.

Please e-mail me ASAP if you're interested! [email protected]

Hope to hear from you soon!

My friends and I are big Pokémon fans, so if you're into Pokémon as well that's a plus~ Cosplayers are also welcome, as long as you don't have a boatload of stuff, haha.

Please e-mail me ASAP if you're interested! [email protected]

Looks like both spots are filled for now! I'll post again if anything changes. :)

Oh, I was refreshing wildly and suddenly... The Marriott was open! Switched it over in about two seconds, and now everything is exactly how I wanted it. I'm SO happy and relieved! Fingers crossed for anyone still waiting on a better hotel--don't give up hope!

*Entire room available at the Saint Claire / Westin hotel*
Serious individuals only, please.

I am looking for a party of preferably four (or more) responsible people to occupy a room at the Westin Hotel.
Ideally, I would like the group of people to all know one another to avoid any added stress or discomfort.
(For example, a group of friends traveling to the convention together, that want to stay together.)

The reason for my offer is that my own personal group of four is staying at the Hyatt-
& we simply want to provide space for another party of friends because, it is fair to say, that the hotel bookings were massacred this year yet again.
But, luck was on our side & we ended up with two rooms.

The room itself includes one queen size bed & is located directly across the street from the convention center.

Check in date - 5/27/2016, Friday at 3pm.
Check out date - 5/30/2016, Monday at 12pm.

The total cost of the room is $402.67, resulting in $100.00 per person to ensure an even split in cost.
But depending on the size of your group, each additional person would be an extra $100.00

*All individuals must please...
- Be 18 years or older.
- Be respectful, clean & courteous. (& friendly.)
- Avoid bringing hoards of people into the room.
- Avoid starting parties, avoid smoking, drinking heavily OR using / handling drugs inside the room.

Further preferences are subject to change or will be added at any time.

Cosplay, & cosplay props are welcome, along with anything else you feel comfortable in bringing.
So long as the rules above are respected, there should not be any problems!

If you are interested, you may contact me at [email protected]
I am open to any & all discussions regarding the room. c:

Sent you an e-mail, I'm seriously interested!

EDIT: Nevermind, managed to get a Marriott room just now. Best of luck, hope you find someone for your room soon!

So is the waitlist a lie, or what?  Seems super unfair :(

I've heard of a few people getting bumped up from the waiting list, but not many... I don't get what the deal is. :(

Nooo, it seems I missed out again! Ugh, I'm so frustrated!  :'( Nothing available again. If only I had checked a little earlier...

Going to give them a call and see what happens, I guess...

EDIT: I called, there was nothing they could do and representative didn't seem to know why people weren't being moved from the waiting list into the rooms that became available.  :-\

I'm really disappointed that I'm still stuck on the waiting list (I've been on the waiting list since day two of the hotels being open), and currently have a reservation for the Sheraton... It's so far away! I do Swap Meet both Thursday and Friday nights and I have a TON of stuff, so I'm struggling to figure out how to make this work. I have other people depending on me for a room, too, so I can't just switch to someone else's room. I've been going to Fanime since 2004, I've always been within easy walking distance of the con, and it makes me really nervous to be staying far away. :( I'm not sure what to do...

I'm guessing it stops at Step 5 to check your registration in the system before paying for the space and all that? I entered my badge info but I can't go any farther yet (to payment, etc.) as far as I can tell. I seem to remember it being the same last year, just popping in to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Have you tried reloading or clicking one of the link to go back to step 5 and move to step 6?

Thank you, that did the trick! I wasn't sure if it would allow me to move on but now I'm all paid and ready to go. :D

Thanks for the answer, Ben. Darn, I was hoping, but it's okay! If you get any more information to the contrary do let us know. Guess for now I'll plan on getting those wheels for my box.

I just read over the seller's agreement again, and this year I'm not seeing anything against hand carts. My box of merchandise is quite large/heavy, definitely more than I can carry without some sort of wheels involved. I have a hand cart type thing I use at home for animal feed (I have chickens and horses). Would it be okay for me to bring that along and use it to transport my items, or is it still against the rules? If all else fails I'll buy something else wheeled (not a cart) to put my items on, but I just wanted to check on the policy regarding that before I spend extra money just to transport stuff to and from Swap Meet! Thanks. I know it's a union-related issue (not a rule the convention itself makes) so I understand if we're still not allowed to use them.

I agree that the Swap Meet generally went very well this year! I think a different venue would be better for next year, and I heard some annoyance at the long lines for the buyers (though I know you couldn't do much about that), but working with what you guys were given, as a seller I was quite pleased! Thanks to the staff for working hard to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible! My Japan savings are much closer to my goal now as a result of this successful Swap Meet. :)

Happy Things in the Happy Universe / Re: Lost 3DS

Fingers crossed for you--I'm so sorry to hear you lost it! Don't lose faith quite yet. I lost my 3DS XL at a con last year, and it was returned to Lost and Found. It could still turn up!

I've been going to anime cons for more than 11 years now, and I still feel this way about them! It's wonderful to see so much joy in one place, and anime fans tend to be amazing people. I can't even tell you how many acts of kindness, unity, sheer joy, admiration, friendship, and compassion I've witnessed at cons throughout the years. (Of course, I've seen the negative sides, too, but those are less common, thankfully!)

I once lost my special edition Pikachu 3DS XL at a con, and it was returned to Lost and Found before I even noticed it was gone. Someone could have easily made a few hundred dollars off of it, but instead whoever found it decided to make sure it would get back to me safely. I've had many experiences like this.

Glad you had such an awesome time, and thanks for writing this post. It made me smile, and reminded me of how much Fanime means to so many thousands of different people. It really is something special! Hope to see you in 2015! :D

Registration / Re: KUDOS TO REGISTRATION!

I was so pleasantly shocked by how smooth and easy the reg system was this year! Kudos, staff, you did an incredible job turning the reg situation around! I'm super impressed. :D

I got my spot all paid for and fully registered finally, so I'm happy! Now I can finally relax a bit and just focus on preparing for the con.

So at this point, if you are still not able to get past step 5, we will be manually approving.  Please sit tight and you should be notified when this has been done.

Thanks for the update! I'll be waiting for the notification.

How did you manage to do that? Did you receive an e-mail, or refresh the page, or...?

yeah, left the page open and refreshed it. Didn't get any email or anything telling me I was clear for step 6 or anything

Thanks! Still no luck here. Just gotta keep waiting and refreshing I suppose.

Hey there, sorry to be an ass, but I'd like to formally complain about how this just went down. I was sitting there refreshing the forums and events page like an idiot only to find out second hand from a friend via text message that the link was posted somewhere (FACEBOOK???) and now I am waitlisted. I didn't even stand a chance of getting in because I wasn't looking in the right places.

I'd have to agree with this, the only reason I managed to get in on it just in time was because I decided to check twitter for a possible update. The first post of this thread was not updated, nor was the main Fanime site entry at http://www.fanime.com/events/#swap-meet

On a different note, I can say I completed the process for payment and got the links for the 2 forms we'll be needing.

How did you manage to do that? Did you receive an e-mail, or refresh the page, or...?
