General Convention Discussion / Staff exodus?
February 11, 2024, 08:30:40 PM
Seems like a lot of Fanime staff have resigned within the last few days according to posts on the unofficial Fanime Group on FB...should I be concerned about that? I hope the upcoming open house is successful because I fear Fanime running on a skeleton crew and the existing staff and volunteers burning out

Order is not set on which days I'll wear each, but I'm bringing Rin, Mia/Shioriko and Shiki for days 1-3 😁

Registration / Re: 2024 COVID Policy

Quote from: apples4ryuk on January 31, 2024, 10:56:33 AMI would have preferred they kept everyone needing to be vaccinated and got rid of masks. As if the unvaccinated people are going to actually follow the mask rule, but whatever.

I think they probably dropped the vaccine requirement since the shots are not subsidized by the government after the end of the health emergency and without insurance, they are pretty expensive

That would be nice

Kind of surprised they're still requiring masks, but whatever, at least no vaccine checkpoints frees up staff for other areas since they were woefully understaffed last year

Quote from: svatoid on January 23, 2024, 04:24:16 PMWith the new booster that came out , they no longer issue vaccine cards,so there is nothing to check for updated vaccination. The state has recently stated that even if you are positive, but have no symptoms, you can go to,work/school. There are no mask mandates . So I think the policy will change

Makes sense, when I got the latest booster, they didn't ask for the vaccination card.

Quote from: Tuna on January 23, 2024, 11:27:36 AMI hope they change the policy this year, simply so that we can have the viewing rooms back.

I hope so, I'm all for people continuing to wear masks if they want, but at this stage it should be a choice left up to the individual.

Hopefully the COVID restrictions will be eased up if not removed for this year, especially since we're in the endemic stage of COVID and nowhere else has had any restrictions for months.  I'm not saying protecting attendees isn't important, but at this point it should be the attendee's choice on whether they mask up or not.  Still looking forward to the con regardless of the policy though!

Video Programming / Re: Absence of video programming
January 14, 2023, 10:06:59 PM
Quote from: OldOtaku on January 07, 2023, 09:54:22 AMAs this chain indicates, there was no video programming at 2022 Fanime as a consequence of the covid policy then in effect. For 2023, Fanime has a similar covid policy. Does anyone know if things have changed or there is some work-around that would permit video programming to be resumed at this year's Fanime?

I'm probably wrong, but I would imagine the COVID policy is subject to change based on local or state guidelines as is the same with any other events.  ALA just had their event without any vaccination checks or masking requirements (masks were strongly encouraged but not required). I guess it's up to each individual event, but I would be surprised if Fanime kept the same exact policy for this year, especially when mandates and restrictions have been absent for months

General Convention Discussion / Re: schedule
May 19, 2012, 11:51:38 PM
Looking forward to seeing the schedule online before leaving for con so that I can sort of plan my schedule which going by the different panels I want to go to will be packed.  And yay for having a smartphone this time around...

Big Event Showcase / Re: Igaguri Chiba
May 19, 2012, 10:43:32 PM
I haven't heard of Chiba or Mai Aizawa(?) but you know what?  I don't care!  I'm still very much new to JPop and JRock depsite my modest collection of said music on my iPod.  I didn't know much about Flow or LMC in 2010 the first time I went to Fanime but I went in with an open mind and well, both concerts were amazing!  I'm looking forward to two very good concerts and everything else that Fanime has to offer ^_^!

Hmm, just looked up some videos of Sendai Komatsu lives on YouTube; assuming Chiba's performance will similar it should be a fun show!

Video Programming / Re: Abridged anime 2012
May 19, 2012, 10:11:32 PM
I agree with DBZ Abridged...I came in on a couple of episodes back in 2010 and even at 2 AM, the room was packed and the room was very enthusiastic.  I would have suggested Hellsing Ultimate Abridged, but Team Four Star has only done two episodes I think

Sadness...my Sebastian costume will not be ready in time for Fanime, so I will have to back out of this gathering :(.  Will still come by to take pictures though :)

Others have nailed it on the head; the vibe is just totally different at Fanime.  In 2010 I went to Fanime for the first time because some friends had raved about it and while I thought the programming didn't seem all that great to me I still had a blast all the same.  The overall vibe amongst attendees was just amazing; laid back is a good way to describe it.  What I really enjoyed the most about Fanime is the little things it does that I haven't seen or heard about at other cons...Stage Zero with something going on at all hours pretty much, random attendees in pajamas walking around late at night, the fact that it legitimately is a 24 hour con that goes from Thursday night after registration closes all the way until the end of the convention on Monday afternoon.  Plus, so many video rooms to choose from when you just want to sit and watch anime with fellow con goers; watching DBZ Abridged/AMV Hell at 2 AM with enthusiastic fellow otaku? Awesome!  I cannot wait to return this year for my second time and I anticipate Fanime becoming a yearly tradition for me :)

Registration / Re: Lines on Day 0
May 17, 2012, 11:11:16 PM
Hmm, sounds like whatever events are going on Thursday night will be good to go as long as I have my printout?  That's good to hear since I'm taking a train up to San Jose and won't be getting there until nearly 9 PM.  I plan to be at registration on Friday fairly early, but not right at 8 I don't think...when I went to Fanime in 2010, the Day 1 line at around 12 PM or so wasn't bad at all, I think I waited maybe fifteen minutes at most to get my badge

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Carpooling thread
January 23, 2012, 09:25:50 PM
Anybody on here going to Fanime from the OC/LA area?  I'm planning to go to Fanime with a bunch of friends and am finding the price of airfare to be rather more than I'd like to spend...and while they are planning to do a group carpool, I'd like to keep my options open in case that doesn't work out.  Naturally, I'd chip in for gas and snacks along the way :)

Awesome; looking forward to hotels going online so that I can see where I stand with the group I'm planning to go with as far as how much my end will cost!
