... *stares at Suspicious*
oh. and my uncle sends them from Japan.
I rent from a cute little video store by my house that has tons of anime (and the boys that work there are really cute! :D )
hmm...where has suspicious been anyway?
The San Jose public library has a decent collection of anime, and is ever expanding (cuz of me). Best of all, it's free (but late fees will kill ya). There also this place in Berryessa (California Video) with a great collection of imported anime.
I have dial-up so I can't download anime at all. But I want to know, in case I get dsl in the future, where can you download the anime from?!?!
I can't just depend on my friend at school for them all the time!
well, i used to use kazaa, but it was slow and the way it ran pissed me off. so i stick w/ direct connect now. www.neo-modus.com
I buy, I borrow, and whine for my anime =)
lol
Btw, Suspicious is just not on the fanime boards for the moment.
All of the above!
And wherever the heck else I can get it! :)
I have to ask, though it's obnoxious. Are there Holy Handgrenades in Antioch, CA?
bit torrent
i hate it but im laaaaaazy
leech fills from irc friends
i buy a little bit of real anime but i dun have a dvd player(or a dvd drive) so i just loan it out
or watch at a friends house
Holy handgrenades? I live in Antioch, and I havent seen a grenade before *is confused* :?
I download some and I purchase some DVDs. The amounts of each vary from time to time. Considering how I'm really low on money right now, I'm tending to download more. ^_^;
teehee its like all the above for me!!
i buy, i borrow, i dl, and its presents to me!! teehee thats how i get anime >^.^<
Quote from: "Inu_Ranma"I have to ask, though it's obnoxious. Are there Holy Handgrenades in Antioch, CA?
<pops-up from nowhere, hold up a portable dvd player>
For those who don't know what he's talking about:
{scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail (my favorite non-anime movie)}
Sir Launcelot: Have we got bows?
King Arthur: No.
Launcealot: We have the Holy Hand Grenade.
Arthur: Yes, of course! The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch! 'Tis one of the sacred relics Brother Maynard carries with him! Brother Maynard! Bring up the Holy Hand Grenade!
{Another quote from the movie}
GET ON WITH IT!

Hail IRC!!
mmm....Direct Connect its the bestist and all that I use for my anime. But not just normal Direct Connect at http://www.neo-modus.com but i upgrade to BCDC++ at http://utrum.dyndns.org:8000/ its sooo much better like being in more than one hub without opening another instance of NMDC and multi hub search it also has status bars to show you how complete the download is and it can also auto search for more downloads if the person you are downloading a file from logs off ^.^
two of my fav hubs hub1.crazycatgirl.com and animecorner.noip.org mmm...so much anime in them....
Rick S.
Direct Connect is just jim dandy and fine for your anime downloading needs, but if you want to get more, quicker, I suggest Streamload (http://streamload.com/). Sure, there's a monthly fee, but when you see your downloads going your max stable download speed consistently, it'll bring a tear to your eye. In my case, that'd be about 150k/s. For the average episode, that equates to maybe 15-17 minutes of download time.
yah but it charges by amout u dl.
i do like 80+ a month
i cant afford that.
I guess it may not be an option for hardcore downloaders, but for most, the allowed limits are quite sufficient. I personally like going out and buying DVDs, so it's perfectly fine for me.
I just like how Some DVD covers look. That's when I go and buy them.
IRC is fine for me, most of the time.
BitTorrent is real good, too. I'm doing 132 dl & 8.2 ul on it. Of course, BT's not good if you use a 56k since you're forced to upload.
my computer is slow.. but we have dsl.. and i can't dl that fast!! i want faster dl!! and a faster computer with more space!!!

where to get IRC? and this...BitTorrent?
For bit torrent, go to http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/download.html.
To find irc, go to //www.mirc.com.
BT's self-explanitory, but irc (a.k.a. mirc) can be confusing.
thx. im pretty sure i can figure it out by myself. if i cant, ill come back to the boards. well, ill come back to the boards anyway...but...man, nm.
I get anime anyway i can!
anyway humanly possible that i can get to is the way i do it ....
sadly my mission isnt going to well ...i only have a few dvd's but i have a cuple vhs!i have an ok solection because i normally barrow from my friends!
yes free anime that u can keep for a long time..or just when ever u get around to watching it.
Here is my method, i rent anime then i record it with my double decker vcr and for dvd's i just play em through my ps2 and record em through the vcr that they are hooked up to and boom i have myself some anime. And since i have been doing it for years i have quite a collection, plus i download a lot of anime as well so my collection is humongous
I watch tv
I pick up a Newtype issue
The anime club at my school should get more titles soon I hope
I rent from a Hollywood or the Library
Basically anyway I can find it.
i use Irc...then i go too www.ircspy.com or www.packetnews.com and i can do a search for it there
bittorrent for fansubs, fry's electronics las vegas for anime dvds, anime cons for toys and the internet for everything else.
i get my hands on whatever i can! like downloads, animedvd's from online or stores, anywhere possible!!! bwuahahaha!! oh and some from ryu-kun XD
Serena-chan: Yep..that's right and thanks to her, I have a Full Moon OST LOL XD
I buy my anime (when I can afford it) at Best Buy in either Puyallup or Tacoma; the DVD's usually go for below retail there (on average $23 for a $30 DVD). If I ever consider renting again, I might rent off of Netflix.
well, I just found a new place to get anime: Target! They sell their stuff for $15-$20. That's where I bought my Char's Counterattack DVD. ^_^ And Fry's as well..*mumbles something about getting all of G Gundam from there and Target* :D
Target sells anime? Wow...I usually don't shop there so much, mostly because I've had bad memories working there (esp. hearing over the company frequency that I'm "needed in feminine hygiene" *shudders*). But hey...I oughta check it out. The Targets up here have been expanding.
i knew target sold anime i've seen it before too
There is gonna be a new Target opening in Oakridge mall next year. and the SamGoody in Valley Fair is closing  and I wonder about something, does anybody know if Anime Play magazine is worth buying? I know it comes with a dvd kinda like Newtype. :?
well, I'm thinking of buying it...I saw it at Suncoast at Newpark if I remember, but I should buy it lol
Speaking of Sam Goody and Suncoast...they're run by the same company. And their corporate press releases have stated that at least 100 Sam Goody and Suncoast outlets are being closed down in a round of cutbacks. So if your local Suncoast closes, don't panic. The company hasn't gone under...just find another Suncoast in another mall. Sam Goody/Suncoast is basically just cutting out what hasn't been making them money.
I should buy mine for once, but most of them don't reach the U.S.
Oy, I was mentioned in the beginning of the thread, but never noticed o.o
I rent my anime, download it by IRC or BT, and I get random stuff sent to me from a guy I met online.
IRC??? >O_o<
i dl half of my anime.. others are recorded from tv.. bought... or given >>_<< and yeah lol
I download some and buy some dvd...
i'm no longer burns anime that i download and watched anymore since i'm very sure i don't have time to watch them again.. there are many others anime to watch...
IRC = Internet Relay Chat
It's like many bigass chat rooms where people can talk and share files.
chinatown!!! there's alot of video stores around there. not only that i could get my hands on ASIAN movies like Korean, Japanese, and HK movies. That's where I got my Battle Royale, Volcano High, and lastly MY SASSY GIRL!!!!
yeah!!!

OhHHhhh i c i c kewl XD
speaking of Anime Play, i bought an issue today. the magazine itself, to me just looks like a bunch of ads for anime (probably thats how they run their features) and I haven't tried the dvd yet.
Quote from: "topnotch97"That's where I got my Battle Royale, Volcano High, and lastly MY SASSY GIRL!!!!
Woo! My Sassy Girl's great even though its abbreviation is MSG. lol. I managed to pick up the Korean DVD at Fanime last year. :D
Anyways I get my anime from downloads, online rentals, and shops, although I haven't been buying DVDs lately. I don't feel compelled to buy any anime DVDs lately except for the Nausicaa R2.
I buy the majority of my anime at voe.com.. But lately I have been buying VCDS. I know, I'm a bad soul, but it's really convient and the quality isn't so bad. If I really, really do enjoy the series, I will buy the real thing. I really did enjoy my Gundam SEED vcds and hope to get that series on DVD whenever it is released.

BT on anime.mircx.com i use the ABC client.
animesuki if you need to find a particular unlicensed series.
suprnova.org sometimes has some stuff there.
i have to catch up on 2-3yrs of anime i missed. i stopped watching around 00-01. just started up again.
Hehe... most are through friends and my own downloading ^^;; If I like the series a lot, I'll buy the DVD ^^
:( There's not many places around here that sell anime stuff. >_< It's not fair! I usually order my stuff online.. when I got money -_- . But whenever I see something anime and cute at a store (rarely) I immediately get it *coughs* *cries -Daddy!!* ^__^!! lol!
But also rent from video stores when they do have it! ^^
Well, I mostly buy HK DVD's, of licensed and unlicensed stuff. There are some times when I just need/want to get the R1's, though. And I have a very large collection of those, from the times when I didn't know there was any other way to get anime, legal or not - and in most cases, there /wasn't/ any other way to get the stuff I wanted anyway. Fansubs were hard to come by, digisubs were nonexistent, and all the HK sets sucked arse.
Online, I visit Animesuki to get my torrent files. If there's a licensed show I want, I usually don't download it.
Now that I think about it...I am hurting for an anime rental place. There are plenty of places to buy anime in various stages of legitimacy where I live. But hardly anywhere I know of to rent, and Hollyweird and Lackluster just don't cut the daikon.
Gonna have to go Sherlock Hound on that sonuvamutha, and go searchin... >_>

Try an online one like Netflix. They mail DVDs to you, and you just mail them back after you're finished.

Oh yeah! Forgot about them! So used to brick-and-mortar places...
I get anime 4 ways:
1. buy online (legal these days - there was a time I couldn't tell the difference - but now all R1 for me)
2. download from animesuki.com (haven't recently)
3. rent at the local video store, which has a decent selection, about half vhs, some of which is subbed
4. buy at local stores (sometimes an advantage b/c no shipping and handling)
only hk pirate I own is the studio ghibli boxset. I may buy some of the DVDs legitimately (notably Porco Rosso when it's released in mArch according to nausicaa.net).
I finally found a Target store in my area that has an anime section (the Puyallup location, at South Hill Mall). It's not much, but it's a lot for a big-box American retailer. And the prices are decent.
Yet I ended up buying the DVD of the "CLERKS" animated series there anyway. XD
Still wouldn't go there for all my anime needs, though.

Target.. *pronounces it French and swanky like Oprah* I get some anime there, but I also like to shop and Barnes and Noble. They usually have a pretty good selection. They sell a lot of manga at B&N too.
Dont mention Barnes and Noble around Freon! You'll get into a huge L/D debate with single posts spanning over five pages! *LOL* XD

Here, Neko! ^_^ Have a waffle! And a cold can of Safeway Select "Quiet, You!", which is a generic store brand of the tall frosty mug of "Shut The Hell Up!" XD
But ya know I love ya, man. =)
LOL
Otaku culture will purify itself! Im telling you!
Another round of "Shut The Hell Up"?Kin must love this drink. *Takes a sip.* Ack,did they have use such sour grapes?:p
You know, they made the can of "Whoop-Ass"...why not make the tall frosty mug of "Shut The Hell Up"? Of course they probably couldn't make "Haterade", simply because that's a trade-name infringement suit waiting to happen. XD
And I'm SO gonna be all over Netflix...once I get myself some plastic something drastic. XP
Or we can just all chill out and get along...
Eish...

Well if u guys are talking about legit anime... ( which i hope guys and gals are.... )
I actually get them from a variety of place...
I get the majority from my own work... ( love getting perks like that )
not only do i special order them and get them before street Date i get a decent discount on them too... woo hoo ^_^
remember, as mentioned before... my room literally looks like an anime/video game store... if u dont believe me... I'll have to post pics of my room someday... ( now if i could only figure out how to work my digicam... =P )
other than my work... I do sometimes ranomdly find a decent deal in retail shopes like Best Buy, Fry's and sometimes during a blue moon special at Target or even Walmart ... unbeliveable but it happened at least once...
and even tho i havent done it in ages... theres TONS of anime websites all over the place... pick up a NEW-TYPE magazine and im sure you'll see an add or three...
man, i sounds like a commercial... and now back to ur scheduled bulliten board chat...
I use Bittorent/IRC
another dead thread revived, and its still bt for me
just way to easy to use
Just did a quick count on the shelves in the living room; bottom shelf has
55 DVDs across, there's six shelves mostly full, so call it nearly 300 DVDs
most of which are from rightstuf sales. In general, I have a $10 limit per
DVD, or $2.50 per episode rule to make sure we don't spend too much;
it's worked out pretty well, because it means we wait for the special
sales at rightstuf.com and get series for reasonable prices. Generally,
when possible we get box sets that fit within that price requirement, as
we like the convenience of the box sets, as well as having the pretty
boxes is nice. :)
Embarrassingly enough, we purchased our first DVD box set more than
a year before having any kind of DVD player to play it on. When we
got our PS2, we popped the first disk in, and discovered it wasn't the
series we thought it was! ^_^;; Learned quickly the distinction between
"Record of Lodoss War" and "Record of Lodoss War TV" :D
*sigh* now if only I could learn to take more time away from work to
actually watch the DVDs. Most are still shrink wrapped and unopened. :(
Quote from: "Belldandy"I buy, I borrow, and whine for my anime =)
me ytoo i will do any thing to get more anime lol "looks for more anime to buy"
Buying and renting, that's pretty much all I do to get my anime.
I get mine various ways. Recently, I get my anime from my bro's friends who has like a TON of anime.. borrow them from friends here and there-- buy them if neccessary.. and well.. mostly borrow from friends, yepp! ^^
It's cool when u have friends who have boxsets of tons of anime.. XDD
I get most of mine from Japantown in Frisco, Japan video usually has lots of early releases, dope but if Im a Jonesin and I need a fix Ill break down and stab my wallet in the heart by going to Suncoast although theyve gradually become more reasonable with their pricing. Now and again Ill rape animenation.com
J-Town's expensive.. i go for China-town which has anime for cheaper prices. ^^; It also has other anime goodies for cheaper prices too~ ^^;
I mostly borrow mine...
