Hmmm, a good question. Maybe someone in the staff can help? Definitely going to be a tough find.

Dealers Room / Re: Artist Alley 2020 List

I'd love to have this! I've already been trying to support some of my favorite artists online, but it'd be great to have a list of everyone to help spread the love where we can!
#3
Definitely a nice idea! I'd love to know if there was a way to support the con like this!

Hey, it doesn't hurt to try! More than likely if you get the okay it'd end up as a Silver Island Panel/Event. Good luck!

Good evening old schoolers!

As FanimeCon 2020 has been postponed until 2021, we're going to go ahead and roll the gathering over to 2021 as we predicted would happen a couple weeks ago.  Nothing has changed for the gathering, other than the date.  For this week's old school anime OP, I thought I would go with one that exudes positive energy.  It's also my favorite anime OP, from one of my absolute favorite anime series.

Can't wait to see y'all in 2021!

A wonderful idea! It'd be pretty cool for the community to get together online an still have some sort of interaction in spite of the postponement. Unfortunately, I have no clue where to start on how to set this up.

Well folks, the day we figured would come has arrived:

https://www.fanime.com/news/fanimecon-2020-deferred-to-2021/

I ant to thank the staff for looking out for everybody by postponing the event this year, and I will be diligently waiting for 2021. In the meanwhile, I would whole-heartily suggest to support your  favorite artists/vendors who will be affected by the postponement. And take care of yourselves!

The deadline for cancelling reserved hotel  rooms is coming up.

Idk about you guys but I cancelled mine. I'm playing it safe this year.

My work schedule recently was adjusted, so I had to cancel. But if it hadn't I probably would have canceled it anyway. It's a really tough call, but it's just too much of a risk at this point. I'm more than willing to help support the organization any other way I can, but attending is just out of the question at this point.

Good afternoon old schoolers!

I do hope you are all well and following shelter-in-place ordinances if they are in effect where you reside.  We are continuing preparations for the gathering and our panel, however with rumblings that the California shelter-in-place ordinance will last between 8-12 weeks, we do believe that FanimeCon 2020 will be postponed until 2021.  That's fine though, as we'll be there on the other side of this to continue our annual FanimeCon events.

Nothing is certain until an official announcement is made but at this time it's pretty much inevitable.  Once an official announcement is made, we will be sure to update the relevant initial threads for the convention programming we host.

Continuing with a weekly anime OP or ED, I thought we could all use a modern classic most of us are familiar with.

Here's hoping! If things fall through, I'm planning on trying to post some updated cosplay photos the day of the meetup. If we can't do it in person, we can do it virtual, right?

Lol! I love this idea! I don't know who's in charge of theming every year, but it's a solid idea!

I'm sure at this point it will either be postponed or canceled, but with an event this size everything has to be sewn up behind the scenes before an official announcement can be made.  There are usually vendor and guest contracts (things like GoH announcements) that have to run as usual until explicitly legally reworked.

What I implore attendees NOT to do is get cynical or angry toward FanimeCon or facilities staff before a specific announcement is made.  A FanimeCon cancellation and refund is completely new territory for this event (as it is with many others), and as such its implementation will take time.

I mean, look at how poorly MomoCon has been handling things...

Agreed!

This is something the Fanime Staff have yet to run into, and something I've never even encountered in my 10+ years attending the Con. We all need to be patient and wait until the staff are ready to report to us all.

Until then, make whatever choice is right for yourselves.

Dang! I'm not going to be able to make it to the gathering this year! Hope ya'll have fun!

Serious Business / Influenza/COVID-19 Concerns
March 07, 2020, 08:10:25 AM
Not going to pull any punches with this question.

With the looming threat of exposure and transmission of infections viruses and diseases (the current of public concern being COVID-19) at events where large masses of people are going to be gathering, are there any considerations by the Fanime staff that are being discussed at this time to protect the attendees? Several high profile public events (Emerald City Comic Con, SXSW, and E3 to name a few) and numerous other smaller events at this time have been postponed, actively assessing postponement, and outright canceled due to health concerns for it's attendees. It is an important discussion that needs to be happening, especially when taking in to consideration of those who are at risk of becoming severely ill due to health concerns (the young, the elderly, and the immunocompromised, etc.).

So, my question is there any discussion happening at this time? Is the staff actively monitoring the situation and monitoring the alerts of local health organizations (i.e. the Santa Clara County Public Health Department)? Is the staff considering extreme measures INCLUDING postponement and cancellation in order to protect attendee/public health?

Thank you for your time.

Name That Anime Tune was accepted for Fanime 2020! We're scheduled for Sunday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM in Panels Room 4. We've got an additional hour this year, so we'll be able to do even more rounds and even more people will be able to play and win prizes!
Sweet!

So, this is my first time planning my trip to Fanime alone. I've never really booked a hotel on my own before, so I'm not quite sure what to expect. I submitted my waitlist reservation earlier this week, so what I'd like to know is how early can I expect to hear back from them? Did I submit too late?

Also, is it worth booking through fanime and waiting as opposed to an external site like hotels.com?

Veteran Fanime Attendee, here. As far as the waitlist goes, from my experience  you'll usually see some activity about a month or so out from the convention, usually when people's schedules firm up and they either confirm or drop out for attending (I'm currently waitlisted for some rooms as well!) If you can't wait, or want to firm things up for good, then an external site is the way to go, but you'll miss out on the convention pricing. FYI, downtown hotels are OUTRAGEOUSLY overpriced (IMO) and you might be better off getting something further out then transiting in.

Hope this helps!

Heya!

I'm trying to gauge interest in a TAZ Gathering for this year's Fanime, since I haven't seen one yet.

Name of the gathering: The Adventure Zone (pretty self explanatory, but what is the name of your gathering)
This Gathering Includes: All arcs of TAZ; it is not limited to Balance, Amnesty, and Graduation. All characters are welcome!

Day: TBD (though I am aiming for Friday or Monday)
Time: TBD
Location (L): T
DB

Cosplayers: Myself as Lup, my BF as Barry Bluejeans

Legal Statement-Fanime will be taking group pictures during the Gathering/Event this year. If you do not want to be included in those pictures please step aside for those photos. By remaining with the group when the pictures are being taken you give your consent to be photographed.

Photo Order:
Group Photo with everyone
Group Photo for each arc
Individual characters
Ships (Blupjeans, Kravitz/Taako, Aubrey/Dani, etc.)
Heroes vs. Villains
Requests
Final Group Photo

Link to Facebook event: will add soon

Cool cool! Definitely down for this one! My pals and I are planning on a TAZ:Balance Group (Tres Horny Boys) on Saturday.

I'll definitely keep in touch to see what day/times the gathering is looking to be!

Well, sorry about your situation, but don't worry too much.

Being older makes you see the tricks big companies try to push on. Those limited editions are not really 'limited"

Any way, there are a hand full of other stores that carry anime dvd/blurays. Right Stuff is not the only game in town.
There is always eBay, and if need be, Japan's version of eBay. You can easily try there.

As of this post, there are countless of store that have K-On "limited" editions for sale.  And as much as I dislike Sword Art Online, that steaming pile of well... there are tons of "limited" blurays out there. Worry not about that title ever running out.

As for a job, worry about that. Make your own money to buy what you want. Yes those box sets are pricey but if you can wait, their value drops year by year.
Case point: I remember wanting to get Cowboy Bebop Remix box set in bluray. it was one of those "limited editions" in a tin box. At release it was $150. No less then 2 years later I found over 10 or those tin box sets for $40 each.  Now you can get them for $25 in the 'limited edition tin box" LOL

I had this same exact situation with the Monogatari series. At first Aniplex only release them sporadically by each series at a pretty costly penny. Sure enough, a few years later they release ALL of Season 2 in a boxed set 2/3rds the cost of what I'd paid originally. 😫

It's just the way things go. Just be patient and it'll come around again.  Plus, ya never know when a vendor at a con might have things that are older/out of print.

Right!? There plenty of new cosplay choices, especially with the addition of the Atlas Elites!
