We got more buttons on the website thanks to the website suggestion thread, but I agree that the site needs to get its act together and communicate to us in some way what is happening and why there is so much of a delay. All we can hope for is that management next year will be better since they rotate every 3 years or so.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Winter Fanime.

This would be a fantastic suggestion for a convention staff that had their collective act together.

This was a topic on another thread, but they are unorganized because the management for the past 3 years wanted to put that he was able to run two cons at once on his resume.

I think Clockwork would be great in the fall, it would also give people a chance to enjoy both cons to the fullest instead of picking one over the other.

Fanime's chair team changes every three years to try and keep things fresh. CA was the current chair's brainchild. This is his third year though, so next year Fanime will be under new management.

we can only hope next years management will do a far better one than this one has been doing. While clockwork does sound like a nice idea I always wondered why they kept helping out with it if they were unable to essentially run two cons at once. If it really is true that the one guy just wanted a better looking resume that really sucks because even if the new management is as displeased with this ordeal as we are they may be unable to due much since many people attend both cons and such.

I hate to say this and it may be a bit harsh but I feel like Clockwork Alchemy is a leech upon Fanime. I'm sure that others feel this way as well.

Clockwork may have their own staff but they are taking up some hotel rooms and making the registration lines even worse. I'm sure there are people who ONLY go to that con and they must feel the same way about Fanime. It's unfair to both cons. Fanime had Memorial weekend first. Make Clockwork Alchemy take another weekend.

um... you DO realize that Clockwork Alchemy has their own registration lines right? AND you can get your badge at Clockwork Alchemy even if you are only going for Fanime. Just saying'

Another advantage of Clockwork Alchemy is that the evening dances at Fanime had started to get extremely crowded and they have to make people wait in line to get in. Clockwork Alchemy added more evening entertainment to help alleviate some of this over crowding. My friends have been quite pleased with Emperor Norton's Ball these past two years, to the point that we don't even go to Fanime's Black and White Ball anymore. Also there was a point where 3-4 tables in the Dealer's Room where dedicated to steampunk, this might not sound like a lot but I'm sure they have been turning down many more and it was reducing the number of anime venders that could sell at Fanime. Now they have somewhere more appropriate to go freeing up space at Fanime.

I hope they do. I've never been aware of that fact. It seems in the past they just combined it all into one badge pickup area. I hope more people use the Clockwork area to pick up badges this year.

I still think to be fair to both cons that Fanime should remain Memorial weekend and Clockwork needs to be moved to a different time. If they did then maybe they could make Clockwork into a bigger con for their fans.

I kind of agree that if Clockwork is moved more people might attend it. I would love to attend Clockwork, but I cant handle two cons on the same weekend so I usually opt out for Fanime

I'm hoping I will be able to attend if I get my Hanji cosplay done. I still have so much to do and my wig is on backorder (its unstyled too).

its been over 24 hours, I guess if I don't get a response by the time I wake up (10-12 hours from now) I should resend the email :T

A few people above have said using Chrome instead of Firefox you can resend the confirmation email. I just tried that and the email with sent in under a minute. Try doing that if you still haven't ahold of anyone and haven't gotten your confirmation yet.

I ended up just calling the number at the bottom of the page. So when all else fails there is always that.

I'm using chrome and for some reason it won't let me resend my confirmation. Clicking on "Resend Confirmation" just refreshes the page. I've tried Firefox and even opera but it's still wouldn't work :-(

I tried that before I messaged the fanimereg people I believe there was a phone number, so I will try that.

I never got my email either, so I contacted fanimereg, but it has been almost a day and they still have not gotten back to me. I know they probably have a lot of messages to go through, but I hope they get back to me soon.

Makes you wonder if this is Fanime's way of saying "Beach balls are a great way to keep yourself entertained while waiting in another 6 hour registration line."  ;)

LOL! This is probably true.   ;D

Well since construction is don't there (hopefully) wont be any power outages like in 2012, and we can pick up badges in the usual area instead of a small area of a hotel like last year.
Oh god, don't even joke around about that.  That line last year was absolutely horrid, and I'm really hoping they get it fixed up this time.

Artist Alley has had this problem of selling out within minutes and crashing the server for a few years now.  During that time the price of Artist Alley has about doubled.   I would not be surprised if the same happens with the hotel rooms, which seem to have not changed in price for a while and are cheap compared to other conventions.  #bayareahousing

Every year I book my groups rooms I'm prepared for a price jump, its gotta happen eventually.

Personally I am not so concerned with a price jump as the lack of rooms. Like hopefully next year I can be online when rooms open or call housing, but the lack of housing arrangements is both concerning and disappointing.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: When should rooms open up?

Last year I coordinated with someone who booked early and got a room at the Marriott for the weekend.

This year I am on the waitlist, but I am hoping to get in. if not I may wait around to see if anyone didn't make their reservation by like Friday or Saturday or something, its always worth a shot

@ManyRelish As someone who also wants to eventually cosplay squigly, I would say the cut open mouth seems fine. (Its what I would have done anyways)

as for leviathan I would say some medium thickness, semi bendable ( but not too bendy) wire and papier-mâché is in order. I would probably only have a small bit of neck before his head so that the top is not too heavy and I could use some heavy duty buttons at the base to clip it onto my wig and have it stay up. But for attaching the larger bottom part of him to the wig I have no clue, I would have to experiment.

actualy i think the one thing fanime needs is to support disabilities or those who need assistance.

It would be totally cool if they could do that, but the idea just seems very difficult. I have back problems that are enough for the government and stuff to consider me legally disabled and I would love it if I could get closer parking, but I don't see that happening.

The problem is it's a 24 hour con.  People who live "close" still can't get home at 3AM at night since all public transportation is closed by then even if they were willing to take that.

Yeah, I live sort of close to the convention, and  the first year when I didn't have a hotel room was a mess. Public transportation is also not very reliable at times. I think services stops running after around 8 or 9 as well.Everything just flows so much more smoothly when you have a hotel room.

Anyone have any advice on how I would make Cheshire Cat's paws/claws from Madness Returns? I want to give them the creepy/boney feel to them.

To make it look boney I suggest adding something or contouring it so that it kind of follows the metacarpals and a bit of the phalanges. Its a great way to hint at and make something look creepy without really going over the top like a skeleton.

IF it happens to be similar to last year(s), then not really

Hopefully since the center is done we wont get a repeat of the last two years, with the power outages and where badge pick up is located and all.

Day zero is totally worth it. I am especially looking forward to it this year because the teacher I hate the most has his final on that day. After its done I get to go relax at linecon 2014 with a bunch of cool strangers in the newly removed convention center, and I think that is the best way to unwind.

Cosplaying is fun and all, but there was one time I was rocking an awesome costume and I couldnt move more than 5ft every 10mins because of everyone wanting to take pictures. Ended up missing out on the panel I was trying to get to. There are pros and cons to all things.

I am not usually stopped that often, but it is happening more and more in more condensed time periods and they usually happen at the worst time possible. Like before panels or on the way to the bathroom.
