That is probably going to be a no. I don't know if they accept anything outside of driver's licenses for those events. And they absolutely do check ID.

Government issued photo ID with the Date of Birth.  So passports work, drivers license, etc.

For events that are 18+ it does need to show your DOB on it.

One year at around 3am I heard a Japanese version of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.

It pretty much depends on what you want to do.

If I were you, I would stop by them and ask about how you can go about helping out in 2016; and getting to know them.

Do you want to help pick out the titles or do something else?

As long as the dress is the appropriate length you can wear leggins under it.

Thank you for your suggestions, they will be added to the music suggestions list.  Just in case your suggestions do not make it this year please know that they will be available for future Balls as well.  Not all suggestions make it since we have more suggestions than we have time for, if we played all suggestions we would be there for about 24 hours.

Thank you for your music requests.  The staff of the Black and White Ball will listen to them to make sure they will work for the playlist.

Last year, I wore a dress with a rather large slit up the side, and was able to safety pin fabric into the open area above my knee in order to pass dress code. My skirt was fairly tight, so I needed the extra fabric in order to get it closed, but you might be able to get away with safety pinning (or hand basting, etc.) it shut to below the knee, since there is so much excess. You can then just remove the pins or stitching later, once the ball is over

I've been working very hard on an Elsa cosplay dress and would love to wear it to the ball, but I'm not sure about the slit height requirement, as it falls *slightly* above the top of my kneecap (but doesn't show much thigh!).  Would I be turned away for that?

Also, as far as the cape goes, should I detach it for the ball, try and bustle it, or just let it go?  I didn't see anything in the rules about long capes.

Is it possible that you might have a picture of the skirt so we can get a better idea?

Capes : nothing in the rules against capes, but we just want you to be careful while wearing so that you or other people do not trip over it.

I was wondering if you knew about when we should line up to get into the ball at 6? I would like go get in as soon as possible!  :)

The line generally does not get to long, compared to some other lines, and it generally moves fairly quickly.  We do get a fair number of people who start to line up around 5:30pm or so.

It's not an anime song, but I'd be thrilled if you played The End Of The Tour by They Might Be Giants. It's pretty romantic, IMO.

Would it be possible to place a link to the Black & White Ball FAQ on the Registration page right under the link to the "Code of Conduct". That's the page everyone has to go to to register and might help in getting the word out about the dress code.

That could be a possibility.  We will consider trying to do something like that going forward.  We thank you for your suggestion.

After much discussion over the years (and much hair pulling) the four inch heel/diameter of a nickel was decided upon as a compromise between fashion and potential cost (injury/floor).

That is an understatement.  More like very public, heated discussions.  One time between me and the old department head after meetings about this.

Since I have been around for a little while longer I will provide some prospective on this issue.  It is an issue that will make some people unhappy.  Not everyone is going to like it.  We have always had rules about the size and length of heels.  And we say it is about the floor and it is.  But it is more than just that as well.  It is about the safety of you and those around you.  Because in the end when you are at the Convention we want you to be safe and those around you safe as well.  That is why we are also a dry con. 

Are there rules?  Yes.  Does everyone like them?  No.  But they exist for a reason and the code of conduct for attendees.

Will the rules ever be perfect?  Will people still complain and then claim they heard, saw or know someone who got in that was against the rules?  The answer to those questions is the following : No and Yes.

In terms of drunks.  This happens every year, seems to be about the same percentages.  We try to keep it under control.  Several people were asked to leave because they were intoxicated.  Some are more visible than others.

We know many young people come to this convention, and are often away from home and from the normal rules they are use to following everyday.  But when they come to Fanime their will be rules, just rules to keep a crowd of 30,000 people a bit under control and civilized.  But then again not everyone like the rules.
