What made my weekend awesome was finally announcing our first Musical Guest! :D That made me pretty happy.

I'm thrilled that Musicfest staff got someone that's really anime-related. That's all I wanted.

FLOW is really anime-related too! They did all sorts of theme songs and played them all at last year's MusicFest!

General Convention Discussion / Re: Event Lists?
March 03, 2011, 08:43:29 PM
Okay, I'll be the official person to say this.

Cosplay Spectacular will be on Sunday, May 29th.

The Black and White Ball will be held on Sunday, May 29th. The schedule for the dance lessons and the duration of the Ball has not been released yet.

Fanimaid Cafe will be on Saturday and Sunday, May 28-29th.

Stay tuned to the website for the exact times for the events. But at least you've got the days! :D

You can apply to be a part of MusicFest's staff. Please email musicfest@fanime.com for the application.

There are certain requirements that have to be met in order to be on the MF staff so I can't say what your chances are for becoming staff.

If you do become part of MF staff, you can talk to registration about the paid badge and see what they say.

I'm not really sure what I was asking, it made sense to me before, lol. Is it possible to work enough at the maid cafe to get fully reimbursed for your badge? Or do you have too many maids for one to work that much?

The fanimaid cafe does not have enough hours to qualify for reimbursement. You would have to do additional hours elsewhere to reach the volunteer requirement to get reimbursed.

Jerry, is there an actual separate official Fanime department for this event? Or does it actually fall under Live Programming Division or Panels Department?

I'm very interested in seeing if this event is coming back for the 2011 Fanime year and if it is coming back, then when they will start releasing information about the event: info//sign-ups//etc.

It was under Special Projects last year. I'm not sure about it's status this year.

I don't believe that we will relax the rules for any group for the following reasons,

a) there is a time limit for the use of the Civic on Saturday.
b) there is a waiting list as long as the actual number of performances allowed.
c) we want as many people to have a chance to perform on the stage. Having a longer time limit prevents that.

If you have any further questions or suggestions, please feel free to email cosplay@fanime.com .

Just as an FYI, MusicFest also has a strict 21+ policy.

Staff & Volunteers / Re: Lost & Found table?
June 07, 2010, 11:39:04 AM
The thing about Lost & Found is that having it out on the concourse, you would have to people manning it through the entire convention...as in 24/4. Also, there are some valuable things that are lost and you would want to have a secure location to hold all these things.

Those are the main points for having it with ConOps since ConOps is open 24/4 and is in a secure location. As in, no one can steal from ConOps like they can from a table out on the concourse.

are we gonna be able to enter and leave the concert as we pleased? just asking since I want to do an activity during the concert then come back if there is any time left.

Yes, you can leave and come back.

Is the San Carlos Room beside Santa Clara or are they the same room? =o I'm a little confused since the San Carlos room isn't labeled in the map thingy given out by fanimecon x.x Or I might have missed it?

The San Carlos is next to the Santa Clara. San Carlos is where the Autographs will be held and you start lining up for them in the Santa Clara room. This is done so there isn't a huge milling crowd blocking the hallways in case of emergencies.

Are the doors going to close at 7pm?  Or can I still go in after 7?  I'm not sure if I can make it in time.  Is there going to be limited seating, or will it be big enough for most attendees to get in?

The concert starts at 7pm and the doors will still be open to all those who hear the awesome music and want to check it out or for those who will be late.

There should be enough seating for everyone. :D

I was wondering, since the black and white ball occur at the same time as the LM.C concert; will we be able to leave early during the concert? I know the concert ends around 9pm, but I want to be able to hit the dance floor maybe a little sooner than that.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, you can leave or come back into the concert.

The Ball ends at 11pm so you will have plenty of time to show off your ballroom skills! :D

w-wait. MusicFest shirts = FLOW shirts?
I remember for An Cafe they had their own tour shirts with FanimeCon listed as one of the dates.
But since FLOW is coming here specially (and not on tour), does that mean they won't have their own exclusive tees? :(

MusicFest shirts are the MusicFest shirts (they have our Musical Guests on the back). We aren't a part of FLOW's concert tour like we were for An Cafe's World Tour, so that would be a "no" on the exclusive tee.

However, I do think our first ever MusicFest t-shirts are pretty awesome. :D We have a limited number of them so be sure to get yours before we run out. Once they are gone, they are gone!

Will there be FLOW merchandise for us to purchase on Friday or Saturday?
And also will we be allowed to take pictures with them during the autograph session ?

As far as I know, there won't be any FLOW merchandise at the concert or the sessions but you can definitely check out JPopHouse in the Dealers' Hall for some.

You may take pictures during the Q&A and the Autograph sessions for FLOW.

To confirm, when I get out of the Q&A I can go straight to the autograph line and still get an autograph? As long as I'm in line by 1 PM? When do you cut off the line and/or end the autograph session?

Yes.  LM.C wanted to meet all their fans at FanimeCon and have asked for a 2 hour Autograph session.

con ops (convention operations) is the organization of people that keep us safe, seeing as we're in an open convention hall in the middle of a very urban area and need protection from drunks, hobos, and other dangerous types of people who wander into the con.

and that's only part of what they do.

What you've described applies to Rovers more so than to ConOps.

Big Event Showcase / Re: B&W Ball Questions

I know about the dress code, I was just wondering if we're allowed to leave the dance, and then re-enter?

You can leave and re-enter at any time during the Ball.

Can't wait to see these Musicfest shirts!
But does that mean if our cell phone has a built in camera we can't have our phone on us? D: If so I'd better see if I can trade phones with a friend...

You can hold on to your cell phone but if you use it to take pics or record video, Rovers will escort you out of the venue.

I just wanted to make sure I knew how the autograph session and q & a were going to work. So, are they going to be in two different areas? On the schedule I just saw the q & a listed.

And also, I was kind of worried about getting into the autograph session if I went to the q & a. For example, a lot of people might choose to wait in line for the autograph session instead of going to the q & a, so I wanted to know how that was going to work.

The Q&A session and the Autograph session are an hour apart and will be held in different areas of the convention.

I wouldn't worry about not getting into the Autograph session if you go to their Q&A panel. If you line up for an autograph with LM.C at 1pm (when their Autograph session starts), you will get one. :D

Also, to be very clear, there will be NO CAMERAS at the Q&A session or the Autograph session.  We don't want to disrespect the artists by taking pictures of them when they've asked us to enforce this rule. So please, no cameras.

Will there be an "advantage" from attending the panel?
...??? What do you mean?
Will there be priority ticketing for the autograph session to those who go to the panel? It wouldn't be fair if the people who didn't go to the panel and instead camped out for the autograph session for hours on end get first crack at it while the people who attend the panel will only have an half-hour window to get in line for the autograph session and risk going after those who did not go the panel.

tl;dr People who went to the panel should go first in the autograph session.

There will be no priority lines. We hope that everyone who wants an autograph will get one but there will be limitations on the number of items and how long spent with each member so that everyone can get a chance. So be nice to your fellow attendees in line with you!

Some questions for the mods:
1) What can you actually get signed during the autograph session? Only official goods?
2) Can we give gifts to them? Then what would be the gift policy?
3) Are cameras banned from the Civic Auditorium like it was for An Cafe?

1) You can get whatever you want signed by them. (I suggest the awesome MusicFest t-shirts!) There are limitations on how many items will be signed.
2) Yes, you can give gifts. There will be a place to put all your gifts in.
3) Cameras are definitely banned from the San Jose Civic. If you have a camera on you or in anything you are carrying, you will not be allowed inside.
