General Convention Discussion / video game concert
April 29, 2007, 10:06:52 PM
I hadn't looked at the PLAY! website for a few weeks.  Did anyone else notice the free stuff they're giving away to the first 1,000 people?  How cool is that?  http://www.play-symphony.com/news.php?full=70

Black and White Ball is also at the same time...I think

You can get a tool at JoAnn's fabric that will punch the hole and put on a gromet for the belt.  I'm not sure what it's called but it's usually kept with the buckles and fasteners.

Buy an extra belt and some extra gromets so you can practice, but that way you can make the belts look like you want.

They should also have some buckles there that you can use to make the armbands, get some leather type fabric and remember that they WILL stretch and fall down your arms, so add some extra holes so that you can tighten them.

No clue on the gloves.

Hope that's a little bit of help.  :-)

Hotel and Facilities / room registering with debit?
April 22, 2007, 09:30:13 PM
Quote from: "Barnes"I'm scared to use my debit card. XD
Question:Will the Hilton hotel accept this giftcard as a form of payment?

https://www.vanillavisa.com/gcreports/learnmore.jsp

I have one and I need to know if the Hilton will accept it. It will help me alot if the Hilton does.

Honestly, unless someone on the board works at the San Jose Hilton and knows their policies, we can only guess.  Contact the Hilton and ask them.  Their job is customer service and they'll know the policies best.  I hope it works out well for you.   :D

I am deep into "OH MY GOD I"M NOT READY" territory.  But I do some of my best work under a tight deadline..so here's hoping for the best.  :D

I know nothing about making shoes, so I'm not much help.  but if you're willing to buy the shoes qqcosplay has naruto ninja sandals.   Hope that helps.

There's definitely an abundance of Naruto.  But that's not really a bad thing.  As I see it people should cosplay as whoever they want, however they want.  It's just hall cosplay, we're just having fun.  I'm personally looking forward to gaggles of "Narutards" at the con, have my camera all ready to take pics of everyone I can, even if I've seen the costume 800 times before.  But then again...I'm a total dork.  :-)

Try the toy isle.  They have plastic weapons and such, see if something there fits.  If not maybe go to the craft store and get some of the thicker round balsa wood (they make it pretty thick sometimes) and research painting techniques to make things look metalic.  Just an idea.

Just my luck, they announce that they're going to do the Black and White Ball hours after I make plans to go to PLAY! the same night.  Durn it. :(

Hopefully the Ball will still be going on when we get back, and we can enjoy at least a little bit of it.   :)

But it's exciting that the Ball will go on!   :D

YAY!  I am so excited that we're all set.  Just had to share my joy.  Thanks for making it so user friendly.   :D

I was really hoping to cosplay for this one.  But things have spiraled a bit out of control on many fronts in my life.  I'll try to have something ready, but right now the chances don't look so good.  Darn it!  I was looking forward to having a gathering to go to as well.

I wish you all luck, and I'll stop by to take pictures even if I'm not in Ranma 1/2 cosplay.

I came up with these.  I have no personal experience with either...but they are definately worth a try.  I hope you have a lot of luck.  :-)

Doesn't list prices, you have to send in which Zipper you want and how long you want it, then they'll give you a quote.

Might be better, it has a 60 inch Black and Aluminum Bottom Separating Zipper already listed

Just a silly question that you can get to when you have a moment.  I've heard you mention that some other con's are requiring pictures and stuff to prove that you made your cosplay.  What kind of documentation is going to be required for Fanime Masquerade?  I just want to make sure that I'm prepared, I'd hate to come up short in May.

Thanks again.   :D

Quote from: "Blue Impulse"Warhammer 40k ;D

i'd be down for some 40k that'd be kool if there was a lot of players

i've got a Dark Eldar army (2500 pts if i throw everything in)
actually...does anyone play warhammer fantasy? ive got both a Dark Elf and a Skaven list (i prolly won't bring them though not enough carspace>.<) but it'd be kool to chat it up and what not

anyone play Warmachine or Hordes? i've got a 750 Merc list and by fanime i should have my Everblight done

My group has 2 Warhammer 40k armies coming (transported lovingly all the way from Reno for this).  Neither is mine so I don't know the specifics, but they're both looking forward to a chance to maybe play some 40K.  :-)

Quote from: "BrightHeart76"I got mine from qqcosplay.  They are AMAZING!  I love my cosplay and they made it in less then a month very cheap.  Made beautifully and fits great.  I definately recomend them.

Can I see some pics of the cosplay? I tried to ask them, but they're really poor in replies and e-mailing in general-- normally, giving me one sentence replies that tell me nearly nothing. I just want to see if it's worth it.

Here you go

OK...let me first say that I find it really rude to lay into people because you don't like that things aren't going the way you want.  A lot of us are upset by the rule, but there are productive ways to work with it.  Calm down, boycotting someone else's work is not a very productive thing to do.  At least in my opinion.

What other options do we have?  The rules for this year are set.  Period.  The end.  So we use the link for people who are new to sewing, we get help from other people and use our resources as best we can.  Masquerade isn't over for those of us who bought costumes, it just has a new and difficult challenge.

Let's have a rational, civilized conversation about what changes we would like to see for next year.  At this time people are being told to go to Stage Zero to do a skit if they bought their costume.  The problem as I see it is that people at Stage Zero aren't there to watch a skit, and they can be mean.  We would all like to participate as equals, those who bought their costumes and those who made their costumes.  What are the chances of having more space available next year so that people who bought their costumes can participate in Masquerade as well?  People could decide which awards they would like to try to win, obviously someone who bought their costume would never try to win a craftsmanship award.  As I see it the problem would be time.   That would be one LOOONG Masquerade.  So lets try to find solutions.

This is supposed to be "by fans, for fans".  So as fans lets behave and find solutions to what we would like to see changed.  I can't promise there will be changes, but the chances of things changing increase when people honestly try to find solutions.

Sorry if I'm sounding preachy, I just want things to be fair, and for people to still be able to enjoy themselves without hurt feelings.  This is a fun thing!

I am by no means a voice of authority, just someone with an opinion.  Disregard my opinion if you choose to.  Thank you for reading this.  :-)

Quote from: "Chloe"I PMed Angeljillbre about this.  Considerng she does manage the Masquerade to some extent, that mayeb she would know any news concerning about this.  Since, we all want to know SOOOO much about this~ :3

Wohoo!  Great idea!  Please let us know if you find anything out!  :-)  I'm so excited at the chance that this might actually happen!

I don't have any pictures right now, but I'll talk to my sister tonight and see if she'll take some.  :-)  They said they were going to post it on the site but so far they haven't, bleh.

I'm sorry you've had problems with replies from them.  I got some really good really fast ones.  When you ask for a commission they ARE very short, yes or no and how much it costs.  But if you ask for details they responded very quickly and clearly to me.

I think I need clarification for "found items"  because as I read these it seems a little confusing.

I also am not interested in a craftsmanship award, honestly I didn't even know it was a contest I just wanted to be able to do something fun with the cosplay community and share the fun.  I'm feeling a little blind sided by this whole issue to be honest.  Can you please post the official specific rules on the web site before you allow people to sign up?  I'd hate to sign up and then have to bail because I'm not qualified, I'd hate even more to not sign up because I wasn't sure.

It gets confusing with so many voices and so many questions.  We really need the official rules.  I'm not trying to be pushy, but I'm just so confused by this.  I know you are a busy person, so please don't feel pressured.
