Fingers crossed for you, Kimu.  I hope you hear something back soon.

I got my e-mail as well, so I'm in.  Should be interesting.

Jack,

I'm uncertain if there has been a shift in who oversees the Cosplay Spectacular between this year and last year. While I understand if there has been a switch in position, I  feel that waiting till less then a month till the event to alert those competing is unprofessional. Those of us who have competed in the past are used to a larger leeway with time frames so we can plan our Fanime Experience. Those of us who run events like photoshoots, gatherings and panels need more time so we can adequately plan our other obligations.

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I would appreciate a quick resolution to our questions such as; Who has made it into the competition, who is on the wait list, what times Craftsmanship judging will be available and if there will be an opportunity for an onstage walk through?

With 31 days between us and Fanime we would appreciate answers as soon as they become available.
Thank you for your time, Inoli

Very well put.  Thank you for this.

I'm going to be incredibly blunt.  This is totally unacceptable coming from a convention that has been as well-regarded as Fanime.  Every day that passes without any sort of word or answers to peoples' questions is one less day they can spend on preparing for the event.  And with making my own costume for Masquerade, I know all too well about the time and energy involved in preparing for the event.  I expect so much better from a convention like this, and it's a total let-down for someone who will be attending for the first time this year.

Thank you all for your interest!  I am happy to say this panel is a go for Fanime!  Updating the main post with date, time, and room info.

ETA:  FaceBook event invitation.  It's public, so you should be able to RSVP and invite friends.  Let me know if there are any issues.  https://www.facebook.com/events/641496425867527/

Is there still no word on any of our questions?  This is information that would be extremely helpful to us, a response would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to know as well when they'll actually be getting back to us about panels.  I've seen a few updates over on the panels Twitter, but nothing in the past couple days.  I have a lot of plans for this convention, and not knowing my panel status really runs the risk of throwing a wrench into those plans.  Also, it would be very helpful to not know the week of the convention that my panel was approved, thus requiring me to scramble to fine-tune it at the last minute.

I appreciate the not delaying the entry process, however there's a lot of vagueness I'd love to see clarified.
The current rules as posted do not match up with the email system you're using regarding entry information.

1) Will there be another follow up email that doesn't just acknowledge our email was received, but confirming we have a slot for the competition, or that we ended up on the waiting list?

2) How will we, or don't we need to submit more detailed information about the group members, characters, stage props, and other info that was traditionally asked of us?

3) How will we request craftsmanship judging?

Thank you for any procedural clarifications!

I had the same questions.  It was honestly a real surprise loading the site yesterday and seeing an e-mail address to send my Masquerade entry to, as opposed to a webform.  I'd also like to know the answers to these questions.
I have sent the messenger pigeon to get the attention of our Cosplay department heads. :)

Thanks for all your help, MPLe.  Waiting patiently to hear back from them.

I'm sure they just got rushed with a bunch of e-mails from people.  Give it a few minutes, then try resending it.  But that's just me.  >.>

Well, I got a response saying they received my Masquerade e-mail.  However, the wording of the e-mail was...a bit on the humorous side.  Still, at least I know they received it.  :)

I just sent my e-mail to the registration address.  Roughly how long might it take before we know if we're accepted or wait-listed?

Registration / Re: Press Badge and Masquerade

If you are a professional member (that is, you have a press or industry badge), you can purchase a one-day pass in order to participate. However, keep in mind that you will not be able to go in between the press area and the prep area during the masquerade.

Thank you for finding out about this, MPLe.  I just found out today that the main editors in charge of Press coverage will not be attending Fanime.  As a result, they have asked that I register as a regular attendee (though I'll still be providing photos and Podcast coverage after the convention).  So this year it's a mildly moot point for me, but it may come up next year if our full team attends.

Again, I appreciate you looking into this for me.  It's good to know for future events.  ^_^

This year will be my first time attending Fanime.  Additionally, my boyfriend is a Fanime staffer, so he'll be running around keeping busy.  I would love to come and meet more people, as it's rough to essentially be at a convention by myself searching for the few people I'm already friends/familiar with so we can visit.  So unless plans change at the last minute on my end, count me in!

I have been quietly updating my Google+ album for this current year, and the last couple of shots (as of 3/27/13) are notable in that they've started tearing out the courtyard area.

Thanks for the photos.  This will be my first Fanime, and while the construction is unfortunate, it certainly does look promising for future events.  I can't wait to see the area for myself.  ^_^

Not to worry, MPLe.  I realize FaceBook is a bit screwy at times and wanted to ask here in case it ate my message.  Thanks.

Registration / Press Badge and Masquerade
March 27, 2013, 02:27:59 PM
Sorry if this has been answered in some format.  I have looked over all the appropriate FAQs and information and still didn't find this answer.

I have the opportunity to attend Fanime this year with a Press badge.  Looking at the Press information & FAQs I see that Press badge holders cannot participate in Masquerade (understandable).  If one does have a Press badge and wishes to participate in Masquerade, can they purchase any form of an attendee badge and participate?  Or is it a 'Press badge OR Attendee badge, not both' sort of thing?  I have no issue purchasing a day badge with my Press badge (if allowed) or purchasing a full weekend attendee badge (if it's the 'either/or' scenario), I just want to make sure I'm following the rules properly.  Thanks!

I understand you're all super-busy, but your last update on Press registration was nearly two months ago, and it's two months until Fanime.  Anime Boston and other conventions occurring that same weekend have already had their Press info up for some time, can we please get an update on when Press registration for Fanime is going up?  Thanks!
It's looking like it'll go up next week. Lets hope that no last minute major issues come up.

Thanks, MPLe.  I re-read my post and went 'Oops, hope I didn't sound too rude/abrupt there'.  When I multitask, my tone in postings tends to get a bit more clipped.  :B

I had a question about badges for Masquerade, since this will be my first Fanime.  I'll be applying for a professional badge since I'm part of a press site.  I've heard mixed about Pro badges and Masquerade, would I need to purchase a day badge or similar in order to compete?  Thanks!

either this is a zombie of magical girls..or..
EVERY puella moment in history to show the witches and contracts!

Not gonna give anything away at this point, but you're kinda on the right track.  ;)

Also, for anyone unable to make Fanime but attending SakuraCon, I'll be presenting this panel there as well.  ^_^

I also do tweak this panel every so often to keep things fresh, so no two presentations are ever exactly the same.  I also do present it a bit differently each time, as my own confidence as a presenter increases.  I can't wait for the panel application to go up so I can submit for consideration!
