I have never read Homestuck, and probably never will, so I cannot form an opinion of it beyond: "Listening to the people who are into it describe it, it doesn't seem interesting enough for me to check it out." Most of the Homestuck cosplayers I met seemed to be pretty nice people, if sometimes a little monomyopic. One thing I do have to say. I went to a panel that was in a room right after a homestuck panel. When I went in, there was a bunch of trash on the floor, and some-one left a 1/3 full soda can open, on it's side, on the carpet. I picked it up and threw it out, but I have to say that I thought that was bad form.

I enjoyed Fanime. This was my first Con, and I had a great time. I really appreciate all that the staff did to make it enjoyable. I'm really looking forward to next year. I wish they could have run 2 Speed Dating events side-by-side at the same time, because I was a bummer to come 15-20 min. early either 2 or 3 times (I can't remember if I made it one of the times,) and find all the spot taken more than an hour before for guys. But whatever. Honestly, and I mean this in the kindest, most gentle and compassionate way imaginable, if you couldn't find a way to enjoy yourself at Fanime, with all the official things going on, and all the people to do unscheduled things with, I must say, again with respect, that that is on you. I know that there were things that I would have enjoyed doing that I didn't get to, because I was doing other things that I enjoyed. Nothing at the Convention was perfect. This is the Real Worldtm.  Sorry if I offended anyone. I think it had to be said.

To the fellow at the East Coast Swing lesson Saturday night (all I can remember appearance wise is that you had a large backpack and short hair) thank you so much for staying and dancing with me during the "decompression" time! (And for teaching me all the moves I didn't know!) That was a bunch of fun!

That might have been me. I can't remember if I wore my backpack on Saturday or not. Was it a big Olive Green one with leather straps? I really enjoyed the lessons, the Decompression, and the Black and White Ball. I wish I would have stayed later at the Decompression, but I'm not a late night person, and I was getting really tired. I really enjoy swing, although I'm more used to a faster "Jitter-Bug" style. I remember there was one girl I danced with on Saturday who didn't know all the same moves as me, but was brave enough to try. She picked up on what I was leading really quickly, and I had a great time.

I've got some of the Post Con Blues. I'm starting on watching a couple anime that I haven't seen before (Space Battleship Yamato and Sakura Wars) and looking for new-to-me manga to start. I'm not over it, but I think this will help.

To the two girls I hung out with on Saturday morning in the convention hall downstairs on the stairs, talking about Anime, and our own stories that we are trying to write while we waited for our friends. I really enjoyed our conversation, and I wish I could have gotten to know you better.

To the former ballerina in the light blue dress (I think) at the Black and White Ball. I really enjoyed talking with you, and I also really enjoyed the dances. I wish I could have had a few more.

To the girl at the Black and White ball who I told she could have passed as the real life of a heroine in a Shojo manga. You were totally adorkable, and I really enjoyed teaching you a few of the basic dance steps. I wish I could have taught you more and got to know you better, but you seemed really shy, and I didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable.

General Convention Discussion / Re: Good feedback

This was my first Con ever and I had an AWESOME time. Honestly, if you couldn't find a way to have fun, with all the things going on and the really cool fellow con-goers to meet, I think that's on you. Of course it wasn't perfect. This is the real world, not an idealized manga. But it was a great time. I loved the Black & White Ball. Thank you all the volunteers, especially the dancing instructors. The Maid Cafe and Fanimaid Live were a lot of fun. I went to Fanimaid Live on Sat and Sun, and tried to get a picture of everyone who was on stage. If you were and you want your picture, let me know. I'm going to try to get them all posted soon. June did a GREAT job as head maid, and it's too bad she won't be doing it next year. At the cafe itself the food was a little disappointing, but I understand that isn't under their control. Most of the panels that I went to were very fun and informative, especially the ones by From Fan To Creator. The Artist's Alley was really cool, and got a lot of stuff. I wish I'd known about the unofficial swap meets, because I would have gone to them, but I managed to stock up on some good manga at the official one on Friday. Overall, the Con was totally worth attending, and I hope to go again next year.

Dear Sir;

The fact that a man does not approve of sexual visual material does not make him sexually confused, a loli-con, or a poser attempting to look good. Now if he cannot do so in an at least moderately respectful manner is a different problem. But objecting to pornagraphic material does not make him any less of a man.

Sincerely Yours;

Is anyone else cosplaying anyone from Hayate no Gotoku (Hayate the Combat Butler) by any chance? I'm going to be Hayate and I have a friend who's going to be Nagi.
#29
Hey Amanojaku! I was surprised when I saw there was someone else from around here coming.
#30
Well, I think it would be a lot of fun, but I would probably be knocked out pretty quickly. I don't know many of the popular anime.

This is going to be the first time for me as well. I'm not in my 30s yet, but I'm not a teenager anymore either.

QuoteSome guy should post that guys wouldn't mind having a girl come up and talk to them *wink wink*

Well, I'm a guy, and I certainly wouldn't mind having a girl come up and talk to me. I know I tend to talk a lot, and sometimes I've been known to monopolize people. I'm working on it. But if you don't feel like talking right now, all you have to do is let me know.

A little thing I'd like to say. I'm sure most guys won't react like that, but for me, a girl wearing very provacative clothing or showing a lot of skin makes me very uncomfortable. I was raised to be respectful, and not to "look on a woman to lust after her". And I don't always find that easy to do when girls dress to draw that type of attention. I'm not going to tell you what to wear, but I'm unlikely to stay in your vicinity. Or, since at Fanime I don't know that I will be able to avoid it, try to look in a different direction. I also don't want to be taken for a creaper, so I try not to stare. If I hover, it's because I want to talk to you but I'm trying to be polite and not interrupt.

So I was doing some dishes (blargh :P) and I had an idea. If I bring a crockpot, a frozen chub of hamburger or a couple frozen chicken breasts, etc, each night before bed or morning after breakfast I can throw in some meat, half an onion, 1-2 potatoes or some rice, a carrot, a stalk of celery and/or some broccoli, broth, salt, pepper, garlic etc, and by the time I get back to the hotel from the con I have some nice hot soup for dinner. After dinner clean and reset. Has anyone tried this? Any thoughts? I was thinking I should bring the small crockpot, because I don't want a ton of uneaten leftovers.

My group is from Oroville, Chico, Paradise, and Magalia, but we're leaving from Oroville.
#35
Thanks.  ;D I think I have everything except Thursday, the Maskerade, and the Karaoke on my schedule now, but I still don't know how to attach an excel document here.

I'm going to try to be there on Friday, if I can't get in I might come to one of the later slots.

General Convention Discussion / My Con Schedule
May 17, 2013, 09:32:01 PM
I don't know about you, I guess I'm a little bit of a control freak. This is going to be my first con ever, and I want to make sure it goes as well as it possibly could. When I read people suggestions for a good con experience, one thing I heard often was to get a schedule beforehand, and plan out everything you are going to do. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a simple Fanime schedule, so I started making one. So far, all it has is the panels on it. I'll try to add the rest on tomorrow. In the mean time, anyone who is in the same boat is free to make use of it. Disclaimer: I'm not certain I've got the midnight panels right. I can't figure out how to attach the
Exel document, and I'm too tired to fight it at the moment so this will have to do till tomorrow.

I would be very interested.

Are you a Tremendous Swell, your pockets never to let, able to buy an Abby? Are you perhaps a Corinthian, a Nonesuch, or a Nonperiel, drinking Blue Ruin at the Daffy Club, putting on the gloves at Jackson's Saloon, ridding Sudden Death on the roads, and a bruising rider to hound, but with a neat, light hand? Or are you instead a Tulip? People call you a Twiddlepoop and a Counter Coxcomb, but you know better. You know you are the veritable Pink of the Ton.

Perhaps you trod a darker path. Perhaps you are are a Greek, or a Captain Sharp, or on the dub lay, always looking for a cove as would bleed very freely. Perhaps you're a Free Trader, one of the Gentlemen, and the Beadle can't touch you. Perhaps you've worked your way up to the supposed romantce and adventure of the High Toby, and have found it means long, wet nights, bad food, friends who might just cry rope on you for a few yellow boys, and small and uncertain rewards. Whatever the case, you've got a fastener after you, and perhaps the Runners have your description.  You know that one of these days, you'll end up on the Nubbing Cheat.

The way a person talks tells a lot about them, and the Steam Age and just before had some of the most interesting and prolific slang (or cant, as they would say,) in English history. I think this would make a very interesting panel for Clockwork Alchemy. How would YOUR character talk? It's my first con, so I probably shouldn't be making suggestions, but I do think it would be a lot of fun.

Big Event Showcase / Re: Fanimaid Cafe 2013!

This (hopefully) will be my first time going to a con. If you had a Butler section I'd volunteer, but as it is I'm looking forward to coming as a guest.
