I saw a lot of what I would classify as either a mascot, a mecha, or otherwise as a "mega costume" that being large, bold, heavy, complicated things that do not focus on you as a human much if at all.

For example I saw a life size Laputa robot, a "Walking with Dinosaurs Live" style Greymon, and a stilted dragon-n-rider Stormfly, and later after I left it seems a full size Catbus was spotted. I also saw a fair amount of mascot type costumes be it fursuit style Pokemon or big-headed Animal Crossing villagers, Marios and Muppets, oh and then there was that lovely cosplay of 9. And I saw myself quite a bit of mecha this year, namely Gundams.

All of these are costumes that stand out in a crowd and take a lot of dedication to wear, they tend to completely hide you as a human being, and some are really more or less a huge wearable prop or puppet... and all happen to be the kinds of costume that interest me the most.

So I was wondering if there was any sort of interest in a gathering just for these kinds of costumes? It would be a simple gathering, we'd take one big photo of our big costumes and then chat about construction techniques and why we enjoy wearing such large (and often hard to wear) statement costumes.

I am just barely making the con this year, I am more less am bumming a ride and thus using minimal car space... so while I will be on site I will not have my Loftwing or any other Zelda cosplay as there is no room in the car :c
I shall just be an observer this year.

As No-Face I handed out gold wrapped toffee at Sac-Anime one year... while it was fun to do I never did it again, not because I got in trouble or someone asked me to stop, but because I was disgusted by the number of gold wrappers floating around by the end of the day... I was raised to strictly not litter so it really bothered me that people so blatantly littered the wrappers from the candy I gave them.

Well poop.
Turns out the 2 gatherings I wanted to do are at the same time on the same day in opposite locations...
crap...
I have the same old costumes I have always had for the Zelda gathering... but a huge new cosplay for the other gathering that has never even been to Fanime and I am totally stoked to debut it...

I will try to swing by to at least see what Zelda costumes there are but the Loftwing and Epona will be absent this year :< sorry guys

(man this sucks, the Zelda gathering has always been a highlight of my Fanime)

I know rooms have not opened yet but when I go to the hotel list I see no Thurs-Mon rooms available at the Marriott except for the suites... please tell me this will change before 10am on the 10th :(

Just a note guys: Do not refresh the page while adding members to your registration group.

I derped and refreshed the last page of the last step in adding the first person to my group because I did not see a finial confirmation or an option to add another person and wondered if the page loaded correctly... well it turns out the process does not continue on the pop up but rather back on the page that generated the pop up...

so now my first person is registered and charged twice :[

I emailed [email protected] about fixing it and am awaiting a reply, but I am rather peeved i cannot finish my registration until this is fixed and thus wanted to warn folks so they can avoid pulling a derp like I did.


PS I was also told being part of a group membership does not affect your ability to book a room, everyone gets an individual number and each number can book 2 rooms.

PSS I also have the User7 thing

Will being part of a group membership affect one's ability to book a room? Will only the group leader be able to book a room?

I ask because in the past I have been the one to do the group membership for the 7+ family and friends who attend with me, but I will not be the group leader (my 18 year old nice has volunteered to stand in line) and of the 7+ of us we are booking 3 rooms...

The last thing I want to do is set up the group membership and find out only my niece can book rooms.

Loftwing will be attending again... but sadly not Epona, the quadsuit costume is showing its age and the joints of the arm stilts are threatening to give out on us. This will be our first Fanime without her (she's been coming since 2010)

BUT we plan to mod our white unicorn quadsuit into Zelda's horse via the gold and purple saddle blanket seen in OoT so a horse is still in the works (and with luck next year we will have OoT Ganon's horse)

Do you have a room with arrival Thursday or Friday with departure Monday that you plan to cancel?
If yes and the room you plan to cancel is at the The Saint Claire, Marriot, Hilton (not the Double Tree Hilton, I got fooled by that) or Hyatt please let me know... if I could have your room it would be a huge life saver.

Heck we MIGHT even settle for the Fairmont...

Marriott or Hilton highly preferred.

PS this room stress is maddening, after living through a life-changing tragedy last year my sister and I were really looking forward to this con more so than ever.... and despite my preparations to be sure this did not happen it happened anyway (I was sitting and waiting 30 minutes early, but thanks to the bum link I did not get a room till 20 minutes late)
This room stress is so not what we needed...

I am arranging a group membership for 7-8 people... I know that there is a parental consent form that the two minors in my group need to bring filled out and singed, thing is do they need to present the forms at the time of badge pickup or can the forms just go with the group leader? If they do have to be present then can I just make one of them the group leader or does the leader have to be over 18?

That is COMPLETELY understandable. :) I will put it into consideration for next year.

actually now I am really hoping the gathering can be at like 2 or later next year because I have just begun progress on a mightyena quadsuit for my teenage niece so she and my sister can quadsuit together :O

hate to say it but if the gathering is in the morning again next year Arcanine and Officer Jenny will be a no show :(

My group and I are major night owls used to waking up past noon (2pm for me, ah the joys of being self employed) and waking up with enough time needed to eat, get in costume (Arcanine takes 20 min), and get down the hellish elevators to be there by 11am just killed our late night Saturday plans as my sister (Arcanine) conked out at midnight and could not be revived... It also killed our Friday night for we went to bed on the early side so as not to be zombies Saturday morning, lol.

I am not like insisting special treatment for a time change or anything, just letting people know not to expect us if the gathering is before like 2pm :<
