Registration / Re: 2018 Reg Opens Nov 7th
November 15, 2017, 05:24:17 PM
An hour after it opened up, I looked at my twitter feed on my phone and saw the link.  Clicked it, did the whole registration from my phone and had zero issues.

So what actually happened?  Someone had their phone out?

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Food Trucks!

I saw at least one food truck somewhere between the convention and the Jack in the Box at night.

Another year of smooth sailing.

I'm going to retire a from the forums.
That's great news!

I had been skeptical up until I saw the trailer, due to the track record of most anime to live action films.  Now I'm feeling like this thing might actually be good, at very least respectable.

The race thing is a complete red herring anyhow, (cyborgs have a race?) as only certain Americans seem have a problem with it, meanwhile people in Japan couldn't give two shits.

You think the possibility of identity theft and/or stolen information is something to laugh about?

With your name, address, DOB, and email, criminals can do whatever they want. Enjoy having your credit ruined, fraudulent activities being conducted under your name, and spending years trying to repair these damages. Don't think it'll happen to you? That's what every company thinks before they get hacked...

A company's disclosure of its privacy policy is in the norm. Fanime is the odd one out here -- needlessly collecting all this information and not revealing what they are doing with it, how they are protecting this information, and how we can opt out.
I think paranoia over information already part of public record is something to laugh about, yes.  Let me know when they start collecting SSNs and bank account numbers.

I lost my iPhone 6 near the entrance of Ninja Games/Speed Dating.  I sat down against the wall, and then walked off without it. Upon returning to the area 30 min later, someone had walked off with it.  I tried to locate it online, but it said the phone was turned off... which means someone turned it off, since it had a full charge.  If you find it laying around, or decided to keep it but are having second thoughts, please turn it in to the Lost and Found, no questions asked.

It was in a Mario case like this:

Thank you!

My friend just cancelled a Double Tree reservation for the whole weekend, so something may free up there soon.

This is honestly really upsetting. Today is the drop cut off.

It's not happening.

I know I'm just being a spoiled brat, but I'm really upset about this!

As a side note, does anyone know anything about parking at or around the Doubletree?
I've stayed at the Double Tree 2013-2015, and parking there wasn't a problem.  Arrived 9-10am ish Friday each time.

Good to know... What about cost? I usually end up finding somewhere around $7/day around the com center.

Cost I'm not sure... somehow I don't remember paying anything, and I'm not sure if I just forgot because it was affordable, or if its because I'm a Hilton Rewards member.

I'd take a bite myself, and say, "Ack, you're right, let's go out to eat tonight," however I would still love my significant other and I would try again another day.

I know I don't speak for everyone but I love Fanime.  I understand a convention, as with most things in life, is 99.9% what you make of it.  The "terrible" 2012 Fanime is the convention that got me back into going to conventions.  Other than registration headaches in 2013, I have had a spectacular time every year.  I thank every staff member and volunteer that I can, especially a few that have truly went above and beyond in the video rooms - especially one staffer in the Nostalgia Room in 2013 - still my favorite convention memory.

Of the people I see active on the forums right now, I can think of three off the top of my head who are absolutely unwavering in their constant cynicism.  None of them have posted on this page of this thread.
I agree.  I've been going to Fanime for over a decade, and have yet to have a terrible experience.  When I read most of the complaints here, its hard to imagine these people are attending the same convention I am.

I won't be cosplaying a wrestler but I'll definitely come check this out.

Unless they change the system from what they did this year, going through pre-reg at con might be almost mandatory to get a room next year. I am quite positive that pre-reg at con is going to be overrun with people hoping to secure a room for next year.

I dont think the system is good or not because I didnt get a room or not. I Actually got 2 rooms for my group. The system was bad because they announced it several weeks after registration went up, and it didn't solve anything with the booking process except for perhaps deterring scalpers (which I dont believe is a huge issue anyways), sense they apparently broke the booking blocks up based on when people registered rather then as set number of people, causing the booking site to crash like it does every year anyways, and most glaring of all, just shifted the race from a room booking race to a badge registration race.
Well that is a fair point; pre-reg may be the most successful way to go in the future but I'm not sure we are there quite yet.  To me, this system seems the most fair though.  Aside from just a free-for-all for who has the best internet connection, what would be a better method?  There is a finite number of hotel rooms, and one method or another, someone is going to come up empty handed.  I am curious as to whether or not there is a way to get more convention rate rooms in the area; I really have no idea what goes into that process.  I imagine they got as many as they were capable of.

Same old, unsympathetic and cynical post from Amanojaku. Do you usually tend to antagonize all forum members like this? So long as I continue to attend the convention I have every right to complain or voice my concerns. I don't post or make new forums for the sake of trolling. You antagonizing me does nothing to contribute this forum or me but yourself, In which I assume you are only doing this for your own amusement. Have you even bother to read my thread post?

At least one of the forum members here is giving me valuable input without having to antagonize me. So I suggest you either make a post that will contribute or have some value of input. You are free to continue make antagonizing posts, in which sounds like you will.
I don't think you know what cynical means. (oops, was that cynical of me?)

FanimeCon has its faults, we all know that, but have you ever considered expressing yourself intelligently or constructively?  Look at Nina Star 9, for example.  She offers a calm, level headed look at the issues, and has offered suggestions in the past.  You don't do any of that.  You should read your post again before hitting the post button.

But you're right, I have don't have sympathy for you.  I also don't feel that I antagonize anyone, although I am mildly amused that you feel antagonized by me pointing out the obvious: your posts (and yes, I've read plenty of them) are still the same rehashed pedantic rants by someone who is eternally negative and disgruntled.  They don't cover any new ground.  They're never constructive, and you accusing me of not adding any "value of input" to a topic is the textbook definition of "the pot calling the kettle black"

The fact is, your posts come off like a petulant child throwing a temper tantrum.  That is what I hear in my head as I read them.  You simply will never be satisfied.  I think once you come to that realization, you can probably move on and be a happier person.

Same old tired, trite rant from citrus.  Do you copy/paste them from a saved .txt document from the last time you made a QQ post?
