If it says "J-Pop song only," would it be wrong to put Lacrimosa as a song by Kalafina, rather than putting it down as a song from Kuroshitsuji?

Submitted! Hope i got it right...since I filed for group entry. :O

If possible, my friends and I would absolutely love Sapphire by Kalafina! We couldn't find the karaoke version of that song, and removing the vocals is impossible since there's an echo added to the background, so there's still a (rather loud) voice singing in the back. I couldn't muffle it without making the rest of the music sound icky. I know Sapphire isn't a very well known or popular song, which is why the karaoke version isn't out there. If you guys can get it, that would be amazingly awesome! Thanks!

Updated: 4/17/13 We now have a time and location!! See you at FanimeCon 2013!

WELCOME TO THE KATEKYO HITMAN REBORN! 2013 GATHERING FORUM THREAD!

Hey guys! Alexie here again! Hope you all had a splendid summer, holidays, and happy new year! I'm back to plan the 2013 KHR gathering and I'm looking for cosplayers! Please post on this thread if you are interested in showing up in cosplay! Last year's was a relative success for my first time, so I hope to top it this year!

Improvements for this year:
-I found running a gathering of about 50 people with just my screaming voice was not very pleasant. Megaphone neccessity duly noted.
-Someone requested that I directed placement and organization of group photos better, so I will do so next year. Stage directions, if you will!
-....Make sure cosplay department doesn't send my cosplayers to the Hilton side when my gathering was on the Mariott side. Then make me scream at the top of my lungs to call people over to the Mariott.

Fanime will be taking group pictures during the Gathering/Event this year. If you do not want to be included in those pictures please step aside for those photos. By remaining with the group when the pictures are being taken you give your consent to be photographed.

Day: Saturday
Time: 2 pm
MP: G8b/c
L: This is the little area OUTSIDE in the corner where the MARIOTT connects with the convention center with the large windows looking inside. Here's the map! Please don't get lost! http://s1271.photobucket.com/user/BSaphire/media/GCDLocationsMapFinal.jpg.html

Attendees: About 50 last year
Participants confirmed so far for this year: 8

COME WITH YOUR DYING WILL! WE SHALL SEE YOU AT FANIME 2013!

Thanks to everyone who came to the 2012 gathering! More people showed up than I expected (about 50!) but it seemed to go pretty smoothly. We had one hell of a time taking some of our pictures, especially the funnier of them. If anyone has feedback about it for improvement, let me know! This was my first year, and I honestly just imitated what I've seen other gatherings do, so it was rather messy! Here are the photos from the 2012 gathering:

Hurr Hurr Marina, I'll make a new post. I doubt most people will answer this post again. I'll just add everyone who already volunteered onto the new one. ^^
Also, I think mfong371 and I snagged ourselves a Reborn. ;D Or at least, partially.

One more question!
We can trim the intro instrumental to the first vocals/verse, but can we also trim the prelim song to 2:30, and make it fade out ourselves to ensure a smooth ending? That is, the only things being changed about the song is that it is trimmed in both the beginning and the end in order for it to be exactly 2:30.

Can anyone contact shmasp? If he/she doesn't show up soon to keep planning this, I was thinking maybe my friend and I can take over...only if shmasp isn't around. I tried to contact him/her via email a week ago, but I've gotten no reply so far. The reason why I'm concerned is that there's less than a month until Fanime and some groups are starting to take certain days and times.

I will be going as Tsuna, and I will have a Bel, Fran, and TYL Mukuro as well. I'm not sure if the Fran can attend, but we'll see!

*cough*
I like how you assume everything lol /shot

LOL MIYU. Are you going to attend?

Weeee awesome! Thanks!
Is there's a maximum to how many people in a group? Are three members acceptable?
Also, for songs that we have to apply our own karaoke effects to, how much will it affect our score if an echo of the original voice can be heard at moments? My friends and I are trying our best to sing over it, but it is really loud at certain parts as this distant echo in the background. As long as our voices dominate, is that fine?

It really depends on you. I wouldn't make it any higher than 5 feet(60 inches), otherwise people are craning their heads to look. However, if you don't have much merchandise, than 5 feet would be too high, eh? That's what mostly what happened last year with my friend and I. We only had like, 3 prints apiece and sharing a table, and people had to look up high to see our art. Then again, if you are planning to sell in the future and think you will expand on your merchandise, then just get the longer pipes for now and find someway to hang the art lower. :)

What I would suggest is figure out what prints you're planning on selling; do a little sketch somewhere to organize the prints in a way so they all fit. Most likely, you'll be printing in measurement of inches, so for your reference, the table is 6 feet in length, which is 72 inches. :) Do a little math to see how many you can fit horizontally, or be creative with your arrangement. You'll want for your customers to see you, so make sure when you extend your prints downwards vertically that you leave room for yourself to be seen. I know an artist who leaves a tiny little window in the middle for people to see his face. It's really cute, haha, but really hard to see him. Assume you will need about 2 feet(12 inches) of space from the top of the table. Just do a little calculator crunching and sketching to see what works. The height should really depend on how much you sell. Just don't make it too high, haha.

Just email the Artist Alley Staff with the picture of what you want to sell and explain to them what it is in explicit detail. Better to have them tell you "no" then leave something out and have them call you out on it later. Their email is [email protected].

Just curious, but I'm assuming there will be a karaoke contest again this year. I was wondering if maybe announcements regarding signups will be soon, or if it will be likely that people will be able to sing in groups again this year? I suppose it may be too early, and I understand the staff is really busy this year, therefore I'm not trying to rush or nag about answers. All the same, please and thank you!

They're allowed. Basically, you just can't directly tape/clamp/fix/etc anything to the things they provided to you, which includes the cloth that comes with the table. Just bring your own cloth or table-covering, and you can clamp/tape/fix/etc anything as you please. :) The rule's provisions has not changed from last year. Bringing your own cloth is nice too, especially if you can afford a fabric one. It just spices up your table a bit more. ^0^

So is this still going to happen? :) I'm personally getting super excited now, but it bums me a little that there aren't as many cosplayers this year for KHR. Is it because the anime is over? I personally think the manga is getting REALLY good right now.

Last year my commissions ranged from 20 to 50 dollars.  Though pretty much all my work was colored.  I think I had one or two inked commissions.

I ended up charging what I did mostly due to material costs and demand.  (Have to pay off the ink on the Copics, and I had to mail out quite a number after the con.)

I actually find that the Bust, Waist, Full-body system doesn't quite work too well for me.  I tend to choose the best composition to do the picture justice, and charge people based on the materials, number of characters, background and time needed to finish.

Wait, people actually took color commissions from you, and allowed you to send out the pictures once you were done? :O I wanted to do something like that last year, but I wasn't sure who would go for that. ;n; How did that work out for you?

Hmmm problem is, people at Fanime are really stingy with money (I guess we can't all be spendthrifts like me when it comes to art). Unless you can pop out amazing sketches in a short amount of time, many people aren't willing to pay more than $5 for a bust sketch. (Unless its large and kinda detailed.)

Sometimes, for more complicated commissions, I had people come back the next day and I'll have it finished for them. That means I have to spend off time working on art too, but if it's for money, I didn't mind all that much. I only got about...7 commissions last year? Made around $30 something dollars I think...

Then again, there were many factors as to why I didn't sell as well as I had hoped last year. I have one of the tables in the very back of the room (next to the Guest of Honor, actually. It was super neat meeting him) but most people are usually out of money by then, or are trying to control their spending. The little exposure didn't get me much business either(since some people give up walking the room halfway through). I think table location is a major factor of how you price your things, really. For sketches, I'd stick to prices under $10 for anything that isn't past the waist.

Just experiment with prices. See if people go for what you have out. If you feel like people are being turned off by your prices, offer a slight discount on the spot and see if they jump at it. If it works, I'd recommend sticking with those prices if another person is hesistating the next time. Sometimes, it's better to make a little money than no money at all, eh? ;D

Last year, I charged about $3 for headshots, $4 for waist-up, $5 for fullbody, and $1 extra per head added. Any background details or extra additions I said was negotiable based on what the person asked for. I feel like I undercharged, to be honest. I think I'll up the ante a bit this year. (Considering since I consider my art to have improved tremendously since last year.)
