Anyone bringing Nendoroids/Figmas/Scale Figures, and possibly tapestries?

I would be quite interested in any of those.

I have a bunch of (really old) scale figures in my LJ link above, but I am also selling my BRS animation ver MIB. I'm hoping to get $130 for it but I will take offers too.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Traffic!
May 17, 2011, 08:30:01 AM
In the morning it's usually okay, and it depends on which highway(s) you take. 101 is always busy at different parts of it; after SF usually it's the worst around Mountain View/Palo Alto if you're not carpooling (at least that's the case in the afternoon, it's always a clusterf* around Rengstorff).

ETA: Morning commute times are usually 7-9/10, I don't live far away enough from my work to take highways but I have friends and coworkers who get stuck on 280 forever if they leave around then.

Aw snap, forgot to pre-reg. :< Is a badge required for Thursday night stuffs?

I know you don't need a badge in order to peruse Swap Meet (and by extension the Gaming room). Don't know about anything else.

I have a 33% success rate in giving blood, so I will most certainly start ironing up a week before. Apparently if you start iron intake that far ahead it really does help so it can get into your system. Also, you can ask for the smallest needle where I normally donate. I didn't even feel it last time. It might take a minute longer, but oh well.

Yayyyyyyyy

The first time I gave blood I hadn't started taking vitamins yet and my hemoglobin was around 13... 3 months later + consistent vitamin taking and my hemoglobin jumped up to 14.1 (and I was on a diet no less). So yeah, supplementation works!

Lots of 80s music! And mashups! The Little Big Planet 2 soundtrack has some awesome songs in it as well.

Also the Captain Picard song XD

Oh yeah! I should add -- if you're of age and meet the minimum requirements, just go donate! They welcome walk-ins and check you beforehand if you're eligible, and usually Stanford Blood Centers give out something nice to people who come in and try to donate. Plus, free cookies, pretzels, ice cream, and juice to those who do donate! Who doesn't like free goodies?

This is rather a WTB post for the swap meet. My boyfriend is looking for a BLEACH Captain's uniform to fit someone 6ft tall. If any of you are selling we'd be happy to take it off your hands, if the price is right of course ;)

My friend has a Bleach uniform but I have no idea if it's a captain's uniform, however it should fit up to 6ft tall. If you could PM me a picture I can ask them and get back to you ASAP. How much are you looking to pay?

ETA: Also posting a new addition to everything else: I'm selling my Black Rock Shooter Animation Ver. Mint in box, $130.

Darn! I'd love to but I'm not allowed to donate until June (according to Stanford BC anyway). Hope lots of people show up to donate though!

Dealers Room / Re: GRAB BAGS
May 15, 2011, 07:06:27 PM
Usually, if a vendor is honest, they'll just put things that are not very popular into the grab bag and sell it for slightly less than all of it's worth. Unfortunately, the nature of the grab bag makes it so they can put absolutely anything in there, so you never know. Grab bags (or fukubukuro, if that's what Fanime grab bags are based on) work better when there's only one brand/series involved and you know you're going to like whatever's in there. I guess if you want to play the lottery a good thing to look for is the variety of things the dealers are selling at their booth -- if it looks like you wouldn't mind 90% of the stuff they're selling and would really like 10% of it, then chances are you'll probably get something nice in the bag.

I've never personally bought any grab bags just because I have very specific tastes (in series and in item type) and have seen just how crappy some merchandise can be in general.

I'll definitely be looking out for this. Eleven is my favorite =)

Mkay. I saw someone bring one in last year but just wanted to make sure.

Bump to show edit -- have added BPN clothes
#53
Are dress forms/torso mannequins acceptable? I'm thinking about bringing just one to help with displaying clothing items.

It really depends on the person and item. Some people have a limited budget and will come by to buy something small to break a big bill so when you try to get them to buy more, they tend to not buy from you. Most times if you do the offer thing you mentioned they'll take it, but for some they're just trying to get smaller bills from you from someone who didn't prepare for large bills and don't have anything else they want.

Oh, I didn't even think of that. That makes sense too. Cool, thanks!
#55
I think the person who did that actually did get in trouble before she put them on, so it's possible they are kind of acceptable? They're really not any worse or better than flip flops, though, IMO.

-Make sure you have change and lots of it. I had to refuse sales a couple of times just because I didn't have enough change to break larger bills. Sometimes you can try to convince someone to buy X amount of merchandise from you, but sometimes this also kills your sale.

I know/agree with everything you just said, but this in particular jumped out at me. A lot of people have told me to price things like "One for $5 or Two for $8" so that I can sell more things at a time, but I've found that this tactic actually makes people NOT want to buy anything. The only reason I could think of is that some people think that if they can buy 2 for $8, then buying 1 for $5 isn't worth it since they theoretically could've gotten it for $4 (despite having to spend $8 instead of $5).

Or maybe I'm overthinking and they just didn't want it in the first place -- totally possible too.

1. Yes, you have to buy your own badge first.
2. Usually no strict dress code, but most departments require you to be in plainclothes (not cosplay) while on duty. You'll need to get in touch with Dance to be sure.
3. Hm, not sure if volunteers need to. Email them first.
4. Your dept. will give you your assignment. If you don't have an assignment on Day 0 then you don't have to do anything.

ETA: Basically you'll want to email your department to get your questions answered.

Bump, this stuff is still here AND I will be at both swap meets, so I can hold things if you are sure you want it.
#59
I've also seen the super ghetto clear tape with cardboard -- technically not barefoot but probably the closest you can get.

Oops, forgot to mention Amici's -- really good NY style pizza. It's a little more of a walk from the Convention Center than Pizza My Heart, but it's soooo much better.
